The owner here should sell the place. I've seen her chastising customers 3 times since I've been coming here. I can only imagine what she does to the staff. They certainly seem tormented and unhappy. Last week, I was sitting near a nice guy who was playing with his little kid. he was very attentive to the child. I guess she was standing on the table and touching the glass- she wasn't banging it or anything. Well, this commando owner comes swooping in telling him in no uncertain terms to get the kid away from the window and sighting all kinds of ridiculous safety concerns and treating him like worst father of the year. and in case she didn't embarrass him enough, she yelled "NOW" as she walked away- hurriedly getting her windex to undo the "terrible" fingerprint smudges. On his way out , the shaken dad said to me" i can't believe this- i've never been treated so badly" I am done with the place. The lady needs therapy. read more

What with the aggressive rules and regulations, the absence of available outlets and wi-fi for working professionals and the surly vibe of the staff, the exceedingly steep prices Aroma Roasters has become an increasingly uncomfortable place to visit. It's a shame really, because it poses so much potential for being a great little coffee shop, however the owners seem bent upon punishing their patrons for the isolated indiscretions of others. If you're looking for a warm and inviting environment in which to socialize with others or work remotely over a cup of coffee this isn't the place. read more

I used to be an Aroma's regular. I actually have never had a problem with the staff or the owner (though I know exactly what everyone else is talking about). They clearly have a love affair with the laminater, but I can over look that. The location is great, they are open late and the atmosphere is exactly what I want in a coffee shop! I have stopped going there, however, because the "issue" seems to be getting worse, and I just can't give them my money anymore. My issue with Aroma's is the price and the quality. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying more for something good, but, quite frankly, Aroma's isn't good. In my experience, the drinks are watery and either too hot to drink without taking a layer of skin off the top of my mouth or the entire cup is filled with ice. Don't ask for no ice (they charge extra for that). I paid $5 for what I thought was gong to be a bean and cheese burrito, similar to their breakfast burrito, and what I got was a microwaved, prepackaged burrito brick...served with a side salad. Shoving a handful of lettuce on the plate doesn't change the fact that I paid $5 for a microwaved burrito (and I don't care if it was organic). Anything they have that is edible is incredibly over-priced. I just can't justify spending $9 for a cup of bad coffee and a Costco pastry anymore. For these reasons, I have given it 1 star. There are much better coffee shops that deserve your dollars. read more

Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs..... I just can't get over all the signs in the place. Every damn place I look. Can't bring my dog even tied up outside, can't do this, can't do that... I even tried to focus on not looking on a sign to ease my annoyance, and I found my self reading 'smile, you're on camera'. That was the last straw and I walked out. Its a police cafe. I am consistently let down by the decision to close and lock up before posted hours. I tried to go last night at 10:40 before closing time (11pm) and the doors were locked with the employees cleaning up early for the night. I regularly come to this cafe, it's just annoying for me to continue to give them my business when I can't rely on them! The best thing?? ...The kindness! The staff here are very kindhearted, and that means EVERYTHING to any company! The atmosphere is fun, upbeat, warm and inviting, and very clean! I love that too. I hate this place, everything about it. There is a bizarre duality (it's right next to a homeless shelter) of "look at the cool vibe of this hip down-to-earth gathering place" and "Here's your $6 latte: now get out of my face". The owner seems to have on a perpetual scowl, and the employees have consistently given me the "soup nazi" vibe (this has been my experience with five or so of them. Seriously, whoever does the hiring, time to have someone else interview). The place is loud, surrounded by smoker burnouts, and they are militant about everything. I have had no especially bad experiences there; they've all just been somewhat bad (and yes, I include paying $3.75+tax or whatever it is for a tiny tea pot as a bad experience). There are so many better places to go in Santa Rosa. The truth is, somehow this place has the market cornered on trendiness (not really a compliment to them but a commentary on how culturally limited Santa Rosa is). read more

Wow this place gets ripped on! lol I guess I'll start with the bad news and end on a happy note: I've definitely experienced the tude by the servers here - and they weren't some young college kids. I don't like generalizations so let it be known some of the people there are really nice! I had asked someone that worked there once about Yerba Mate and they were clueless as to what it was lol I think if you're gunna work somewhere maybe know the menu? I don't like the overbearing loud music on the weekends. It's cool if it's onin the background but it's way too much to hold a convo and I treasure my weekends to hang and converse with friends. Were not there to shout and pound beers. The ice cream shop in the back needs to go. I say 'unlike.' I feel like I'm in some little kids sticky playhouse equipped with odd uncomfortable seating. Does anyone else get a weird vibe from that room? Like your brother and his friends are holding a boys only club mtg. I don't drink coffee but they have a huge selection of other beverages, my faves being the blueberry tea, cherry italian soda, and soy hot chocolates. They could speak to a wider audience with their menu. The sandwich I had was hard n chewy and when I asked for a toasted buttered bagel with cheese on it you'd think I would of asked for a kidney. I had to apply the cold hard butter myself. You have to pay for extra butter here. Be aware of the rules or you'll get the tude. I hate that they put their outlets on lockdown. If you want to spend a few hours working you may as well go to Cafe Azul where you are welcome to outlets galore and a mellow pleasing atmosphere. Oh wait that's another review now isn't it ;) They have some amazing desserts - their choc chip cookies rule! And those toffee bars - yum! It's casual and eclectic. Put on your beret and bring in your dog eared copy of Jack Kerouac and prepare to be insulted. The coffee is decent - not great. But they do have a lot of different blends. Fun music on the weekends. Pastries that look yummy in the display case - but they are so way over priced I often think I might need to take out a 2nd mortgage on my home just to afford to buy something - I just skip it and get coffee to go. The crux of my low rating is that they have and continue to hire the RUDEST staff possible. Like to be insulted or ignored well...hey this is your kind of place! Usually the staff looks like extras from a Capital One Credit Card commercial. Tattoos, nose rings, festoons of arm pit hair and dubious hygiene complete the picture. On one visit I tried to correct a server when she was having difficulty using my ATM card - English was not her native language. To make matters more aggravating - a fellow employee decided to step in and save the day. Her "Knight in Shining Armor" came to her rescue and called me an Asshole...thus ending THAT transaction - I -or should I say THIS Asshole took his business elsewhere. No apology from Management by the way just stop upsetting "Our Staff" and take your coffee and amscray. How this place stays open is a Ripley's Believe It Or Not Mystery to me. A friend who lives in the North Bay sent me a text and asked me to meet him at A'roma in Santa Rosa. "Sure, fine" I said. Sadly, he didn't tell me to rob two liquior stores on the way over to pay for my oatmeal and Diet coke. 3oz. of oatmeal, 1/6 of a banana sliced into 15 dime thick pieces to try and confuse me, 17 raisins- $5.01. One 12oz. can of Diet Coke- $2.18. It's safe to say the oatmeal "dish" cost A'roma's .23 -.25 cents. One Diet Coke probably cost them about the same .22 - .25. So I paid $7.19 for .44 - .50 worth of food & beverage. If there had not been 5 or 6 girls with great tits walking around in the place, I would have pooped on the floor and charged them $7.19 for the privledge of scooping up my dookie. read more

This used to be a really laid-back coffeeshop and I spent many hours here with my laptop and a lot of coffee. Now its changed where they moved the wireless so it only works in the back room, and they have signs everywhere saying that you have to buy something every hour. It no longer feels personal. I understand they are a business, but I think they got a little too full of themselves and are trying to control too much. I'm not sure if they are trying to be a grungy coffeeshop by their clientele, but they sell 'run-of-the-mill' sandwiches that are almost $7. So sad that I have to write this review after having been here a few times and I've written a few tips that are so positive. But I'm the type of person who doesn't use expired products. I just can't. I know that even though the milk may expire today and it very well isn't bad, just can't do it. That being said, when I'm paying over $5 for a latte, I expect my milk to be within the "use by" date. I asked for skim for our coffee bc there wasn't any out on the counter so they handed me the gallon. I told them it was expired (by two days) and they told me they are able to use milk for two weeks after the use by date. I asked if they had another gallon that wasn't expired and they told me it would have the same expired date on it. I told them nevermind we didn't need the milk that we would drink it black. I just couldn't shake the fact my latte was made with the same expired milk after I paid for it. I asked to get my money back and the woman was rude and seemed annoyed that I didn't want to drink expired milk. They gave me a refund and we left. This is really upsetting because I really liked their Chai lattes and Chai shakes and some of their desserts but who knows what else is expired. Plus after giving me an attitude, I'm in no hurry to get back there. Instead I went to Brew and grabbed a Chai latte and had very friendly service. There are many other coffee houses in the area so I don't need to waste my money on expired products and rude employees. read more

40 minutes before they close they refused to put my non to go coffee in a real cup, because " They are closing in just a few minutes. Also, clearly annoyed that we are ordering anything and cleaning up around us. The coffee was decent but the employees really detract from the experience. I understand that it's Thanksgiving and you would rather be home but announcing loudly that they are closing and that everyone needs to leave in 15 minutes was kind of unnecessary. There was a lady in the striped shirt who waited on us and announced rudely that everyone needed to leave. Oh, I'll leave. And not come back. I used to be quite a regular of A'roma Roasters, and it still has its style. I love the ambience, the people, the music, the staff, and the americano. We'll start with the staff. They are always so friendly, even when I see them out in the community. The environment of the place is trendy, and I love hanging out if I'm going to read or meet up with a friend. The Indonesian wrap is amazing! It's pricey for coffee-shop food, but it's worth it. I used to drive to A'romas just to have this wrap for lunch--so good! I enjoy the Americano, but I don't like the coffee much. I drink black coffee, and I don't enjoy the flavor much. I love that A'romas is open late and has live music. It's a great place to go for the music to hang out with a few friends. I do not like that there are so many rules at A'romas. It makes the regulars and the people who enjoy the environment feel unwelcome. You cannot hangout for too long or you'll be asked to buy more. You cannot plug your laptop into the walls. If you ask for extra of ANYTHING, you get another charge on top of the already overpriced food. I'm not sure who creates the rules. The staff is always so great, and I know they're just doing their jobs. The rules are a bit much though. I now walk across the parking lot for my coffee. read more

Really a very mediocre place. The only reason I ever visit this place is because of the hours and the location. The coffee really isn't that great and their customer service is really terrible. Some of their staff are just plain rude. I wouldn't mind paying 4 dollars for a cup of coffee if the staff actually responded to their customer base well but, truly, the less I see of them the better. Their wifi is also terrible. It only works in the back room... which, if you go to a cafe to be social, will not work for you. The city has public wifi you can use but it doesn't work great here. If I could give it 0 stars, I would have. Why? Because they fail on every level. Level 1: Coffee - The first time I went, I got just regular coffee and it was far from quality. So, the second time I went I got espresso, and it was even worse. It's bitter and it tastes like old, rancid coffee oil, which means they don't clean their machines very well. Also, whoever made it didn't know how to use the espresso machine and my shot didn't even have any crema on top. The third and last time I gave this cafe a chance, I got a latte and the milk was burnt and there was no foam. Not bad foam, NO foam. These people do not know coffee and do not know quality. Level 2: Prices - Everything is low quality and way overpriced. I'm not going to put the details in here because plenty of other reviews detail this situation. Level 3: Service - Every single time I interacted with the staff they failed to smile or be welcoming in any way, shape or form. On top of that, they had a surly energy that made me feel as if I was just a giant nuisance. A giant nuisance is not what I'm trying to feel like as a customer of anyone. I realize these people work for an abusive employer, so I feel for them, and don't so much blame them for their very unhappy attitudes, but it does mean I'm not going to be a patron. Level 4: Environment: First of all, the main area you sit in is carpeted with old, nasty carpet that clearly doesn't get cleaned very often. Vacuumed, yes, but actually cleaned, no. I have carpet in my apartment that is clean and it doesn't give me a headache, but the carpet in this cafe gives me a headache. Given how big the room is, it's gotta be pretty nasty to still give me a headache. Gross. Level 5: Atmosphere: There are signs everywhere telling you what to do and what not to do. It makes the place feel like a modern-day Third Reich. Is the owner the reincarnation of Hitler? Go in there and break one of her rules in front of her and see what happens. I'm sure that will give you your answer. Also, the staff is always asking people who have bought things if they've bought something. Not only do the overly-controlling signs and staff cause an uptight atmosphere, not remembering your customers is bad customer service. Level 6: Management: The owners are abusive to both staff and customers. Anyone with any integrity at all will not be a patron of a business owned by abusive people. #1 I'm not a big coffee drinker but I am a big fan of Chai lattes. You can imagine my excitement on coming in and finding not just 1 chai option but MANY. The Oregon Chai latte (sweet), Mate Chai latte (spicy), and Voodoo Chai latte (latte with a shot of espresso. I think there were other options but these are the only ones I remember. I was craving a bit of spicy so went for the Mate Chai. The mate is very strong - almost gingerbread like. It threw me off since I was thinking it would be more ginger spicy. Nonetheless it was tasty. If you're looking for something sweeter I would try the oregon chai instead For a late Sunday morning the place was already packed! Plenty of seats and places to plop down and get work done. I'll come back again to check out the rest of the menu, the work environment, and the music nights. read more

I really tried to like this place. It's a good location and they are open late. That where the pluses stop though. I've been there five or six times. Every time they struck out with me. Each time the staff have been rude and/or their over priced coffee has been bad/burnt. I don't think the staff's rudeness is necessarily their fault, rather it seems like it's a stressful environment to work in. My guess is that is coming from the owners. I've never met the owners but the place just has the feel of sleazy used car salesman turned coffee shop owner. Extras that are normally freely available are not. Everything feels rationed, like the owners are trying to squeeze as much money out of the place as possible. My guess is that they do that with staff too. We've all seen it a million times and most of us have had the misfortune of working in an environment like that. So if you do choose to patronize this place and you find out that you have to play extra money to add soy milk to your overtly bitter and nasty coffee, don't take it out on the staff. My guess is those kinds of extras probably come out of their pay check. Yes that really happened. For you lactose intolerant folks (like my husband), bring your own soy milk, it's cheaper. As for me, I'll spend my money where I know the employees are taken care of and the coffee is actually drinkable. I'm all about local spots, but given a choice I will choose Starbucks over this place. That's pretty bad. SO RUDE. I have been multiple times, hoping they will someday redeem themselves for the rudeness the continually show to their faithful customers. I have been proven wrong for the last time. I went in this weekend on a slow day, picking up some thai iced teas and their lunch special. I asked the cashier what the soup of the day was, to which she replied, "Soup's outta season," added a sharp glare, and pointed her finger toward the menu. I perused and tried to find where this was stated, and could not, but mostly I was off-put by her rudeness. I then requested to add avocado to my sandwich, when she said, "We don't have avocado." DON'T HAVE AVOCADO?! You're serving sandwiches without Mother Nature's green goodness? Shame. Wouldn't have bothered me as much if she hadn't been so mean about it. So fond memories aren't enough. Today the person taking my order was disinterested and seemed annoyed to take my order. My nonfat decaf latte was heard as, "decaf mocha," and when I corrected her, I still got a decaf 2% latte. When I told the barrista, a different woman, I asked for nonfat, she said, "it's only 2%. Do you still want me to remake it?" It still isn't what I wanted and paid for but by then, I just wanted to hit the road. There are more signs everywhere, don't do this, do that, sit here, don't move this or that. It's really uninviting. I normally am a big fan, but, this last time I went made me question it. First off, I love muffins. If I see a cafe selling Costco muffins, they instantly lose a lot of respect. Really? Costco muffins? Come on. I came here to do some work on my computer while my mom sat with me to read. However, the only power outlets are in the back room along one long power strip. If you want to be on your computer, you have to sit at this high table facing the wall. Even if you try to sit at a nearby table to share it with someone else, they will ask you to move to the computer seclusion area. But, my soy cafe au lait was good. I'm quite disappointed with my experience here. I have lived in Santa Rosa for four years and had never been to this cafe, so when I finally went, my expectations were high. Apparently a little too high. I brought my laptop in to get some work done while enjoying a delicious coffeehouse treat. What I experienced was poor customer service and a sub-par beverage. As I walked in and scanned the room, my first thought was "Wow, this place is packed! It must be good!" I sauntered up to the counter to order a sweet hot chocolate and was a little surprised how much higher the price was than other coffee shops I frequent. I shuffled my way through the maze of tables, filled with busy students, uncomfortable blind dates and obnoxious execs talking loudly on their cell phones. I found a seat and arranged my computer in the ideal spot, only to find there was no outlet in sight. I had to bother my neighboring table to use the outlet that was hidden in the corner by the patron's shoulder. After a few minutes of uncomfortable adjustments, I figured my drink was ready, so I walked up to the counter to retrieve it. As I picked up the cup, I thought to myself that it felt really light. After taking a sip, I realized it was because it was mostly foam. A splash of hot chocolate - heavy on the foam. Not what I had in mind. After going back to my seat, I was ready to get to work. I would soon learn that this was not going to happen. I tried again and again to connect to what I was told was a complimentary wi-fi service but nothing was working. I asked the same neighbor that I had bothered earlier if they were experiencing connectivity problems and they said yes. Rather than waste more time trying to connect, I walked back up to the counter and asked the employee if she could help me out. She replied that she'd reset the router, but "it would be a minute." Fifteen minutes later, my foamy chocolate was consumed, my computer was nothing more than a useless notebook without Internet connection, and I was done. I packed up my belongings and headed out the door, only to see that the employee who I had asked to help me with the Internet connection hadn't moved from her original spot. It gets the other 2 stars 1 Star - when craving ice cream during said writers group - it's RIGHT THERE and it's GOOD ice cream. This place has the cool hang out 'local' vibe and I'd always rather support a local business, so I try to go there when I want coffee in Santa Rosa, but I just can't fully get behind this place. Its not a place I'd really like to hang out in. Its usually loud and pretty crowded and I feel like the employees are stressed out and I feel bad asking for non-fat milk and handing them my own cup. They do take the cup but don't give me a discount for it. Its also feels really dark in there and I wouldn't go to read. And they have so many signs about what to do and what not to do ,I'm afraid I'm going to do something wrong. The last guy to serve me was really nice and I did tip but I did feel like I was making more trouble for them. When I finally did get my iced mocha it wasn't very good. It hadn't been mixed well and the mocha part- whether its syrup or powder just didn't taste chocolaty but more chalky- hard to explain but I probably won't be going back unless its between here and Starbucks. They have a new outside hang out area but you can't smoke there and they don't allow pets. Everyone outside was sitting closer to the railroad tracks smoking or on one of the benches in front on their cell phone. read more

A'roma Roasters is a quaint coffee house located right across the street from Hotel La Rose, and in the Railroad Park. My fiance and I decided to check it out - since as a guest of Hotel La Rose - the hotel parking was right behind the coffee house. It was a Saturday morning, and it was really busy. The vibe is definitely that eclectic "coffee house" vibe where you'd hear a musician playing guitar in the corner, and the crowd ranging from young to old, definitely more on the earthy side. We only ordered an americano, because we like our coffee strong. The prices were about the same as going to Starbucks, and it took a really long time for them to fill our order. I'm guessing because it was super packed. The coffee itself was subpar, lacking flavor and strength. Especially since we ordered an amiericano - we were obviously looking for coffee with a punch. They seemed to have a good selection of breakfast and lunch items, as well as baked goods. We did not have time to try them though. Although a very cute location and everyone seemed friendly, it isn't a place I'd go back to, ONLY if forced to. There is a Starbucks at the mall which is within walking distance (about a 10 minute walk). If I'm paying the same price - I'd go for quality of coffee over scenery everytime. read more

Every town should have an Aroma Roasters. It serves a lot purposes - a place to meet with friends, to study, or to deal with the munchies. Aroma has good atmosphere, a lot of seating, internet access, good coffee, juices, munchies stuff, and baguette sandwiches and wraps. It's all okay and the prices are standard for coffee houses. The crowd tends to be college-aged, however there is a nice mix that includes others too. Also, the place is big enough that it isn't overrun with people who camp in with their laptops for 2 hours while they use their coffee cup as a prop. read more

I love coming to this place with friends to enjoy coffee and some random music...My favorite night at Aromas was on a friendly date with somebody...We were having coffee and listening to this guy play some acoustic music...Great time! Aromas is also a great place to go to when you're working on homework, projects, yelping or catching up on emails. You can just chill and enjoy a good coffee. Their menu offers some unique stuff. There are some drinks on the menu that I cant even guess what they are! Could be exciting though :) All of the drinks that I have had were really enjoyable...Sometimes I feel like the sizes are a little small...but its still worth the ambiance and overall experience. The only reason its popular is location. The coffee is so-so, I have has Sanka instant that tastes better. The staff are mainly rejects from Starbucks who lack manners, competency and personal hygiene. They seem bitchy and act as though there job is difficult despite doing something that a monkey could do and I am suppose to tip them? I keep waiting to find someone's piercing in my drink. read more

A'roma Roasters is a pleasant place off Railroad Square, next to the California Welcome Center. It can get noisy, and the baristas look tough (haven't seen tattooings and piercings at Starbucks) Their Mad Max and Blueberry/Acai/Mate drinks are good. The food is pretty expensive for a coffee shop. It's pretty good. read more

The coffee is still great after 15 years, but I haven't had any of their eats recently. The wifi is now free, but they don't allow you to use electricity to recharge your laptop battery. This is a major inconvenience for a place that encourages laptop use by providing free wifi. I abandoned a very popular cafe in San Francisco (Ritual Coffee Roasters) for the same reason. Boo. Although the atmosphere and coffee are preferable, I'll be heading to Sebastopol to Coffee Catz and Guayaki Mate Bar, or in Cotati the Redwood Cafe and North Light Books & Cafe since they all offer drinks, free wifi, and electricity. read more

Always loved the coffee and baked goods here, with great music and a lively energy I can't say no any time I come here. My fave is just a plain mocha, but they do it so RIGHT. read more
