This review is my belated birthday gift to Sean T…read more Tick Tock. Tick Tock. Time for another magazine? Before Revolution launched, I read Chronos for information about fine timepieces. So far, I've only seen 2 issues of the former. Revolution is taller & approximately 3-4x heftier than the average issue of Chronos. At first glance, one would guess that "Revolution" is making reference to the motion of the dials on the face of a watch. I'll go further & suggest that "Revolution" is trying to inspire something of the same in the realm of watch publications. The magazine wants to be the hip upstart in a handful of stodgy glossies which have dominated the field. Notice the large, sparkling font of its title. Try not to notice the scantily clad females inside. Even its physical presence screams, "Pay attention to me! I'm large & in charge!" The magazine is not without its merits, however. This is watch porn for connoisseurs. Pages & pages of gorgeous timepieces photographed up close. All of the big players in the industry are present: Patek, Breguet, Jaeger LeCoultre. Mmm... Mmm... Mmm... For those who claim they buy the magazine for the articles, they get technical stories such as "Inside the Whirlwind: How a Tourbillon Works" complete with detailed illustrations. Those who don't want to pigeonhole themselves into one narrow focus can read "Gasoline Glamour, The Grand Prix de Monaco Historique". There is also a bit of irreverent humor sprinkled throughout. "The Great Tourbillon Controversies II" asks, "Was the tourbillon created to enhance oil distribution of to combat gravity? (And should we send Jessica Simpson into space?)" I would be interested to find out the target demographics of Revolution. Hipsters in their late 20s to mid-30s who secretly listen to hip hop*? Can they really afford this newfound addiction? (I certainly cannot. But neither am I a hipster. (Simply, I've loved watches since my grandfather gave me my first Casio at age 11.)) * Jay-Z is credited for introducing the OffShore to a whole new audience. On my wish list: (Obviously incomplete) -- Vacheron Constantin's Black Malte Tourbillon -- Audemars Piguet's Millenary -- IWC's Da Vinci Men, you do not need any other jewelry if you have a good watch.

To be honest, the only watch magazine by level is Plaza Watch. If you really want to see some good…read morestuff, check it out. I have rad both Revolution and Plaza Watch, and it is a big difference.

VP (Vincent + Patricia) Records is the world's largest independent record label and distributor of…read moreCaribbean music. This record store is legendary. VP Records was an integral part of spreading reggae music all over the world - this landmark is a must-visit for music fans or collectors of vinyl records. The record store moved from Brooklyn in 1975 to its current location in Jamaica, Queens around 1979. Patricia Chin (Miss Pat) and her husband Vincent "Randy" Chin also co-founded Randy's Record Mart and Studio 17 in Kingston, Jamaica. The origins of VP Records can be traced back to the late 1950s when Mr. Chin worked for a jukebox company in Jamaica (the island). He would change out the worn records from the jukebox, which would normally be thrown away, but he had the idea of selling the 45s. This record shop has an incredible selection of Caribbean music so whether you are looking for reggae, ska, dub, rocksteady, lover's rock, dancehall, or soca you will find it here. Reggae music is much more than Bob Marley's Legend and Jimmy Cliff's Harder They Come soundtrack. Check out these artists/producers: Lord Creator, John Holt, Glen Brown, Winston 'Niney' Holness, The Skatalites, Bunny "Striker" Lee, Augustus Pablo, Lee "Scratch" Perry, and King Tubby. Besides the variety of vinyl record and CDs, the store also carries a selection of Jamaica-inspired clothing and books. I highly recommend picking up a copy of Patricia Chin's autobiography Miss Pat: My Reggae Music Journey.

No communication and no opportunity for me to resolve the underlying issue. I sent an email, which went unanswered. I posted on the Facebook page, also unanswered. Ok, ok. For some reason, you just don't want my business. Good thing there's plenty of great music out there and I don't need any reggae from VP.
