This is another Deli & Grill but they are going by Hollis Deli Number One. The is not your ordinary bodega. They offer so much more! Walking in, you are most definitely noticed and greeted! I like that concept for the mere fact, if you are ordering from bodegas they let you order at the food counter, in my experience, but this D&G's take on a more direct approach by speaking and asking how they can help you, more like steering you in the right direction sking with gathering enough information to complete the sale. For instance I said that I wanted a Sausage,egg, n , cheese. I told him 3 egg whites, with the sausage links. Instead of putting it on any bread, the most important question was asked. Do you want it on a roll or hero, a key question to satisfy the customer and to provide satisfactory customer service. A key component in retaining customers. As I looked around the casual atmosphere to gathering information so that I may be well informed, I found some cookies that made me feel nostalgic in the best way. I was compelled to buy the Duplex Cremes, see photo! I also searched for the bigger pack of Biscoff, my new found favorite but they only had one selection and it was a mini pack. This store was less chaotic, smaller than the Merrick store, more organized and consistent with exemplary customer service. If I'm in the area, I'll return. Hollis Deli I'm not sure if this place is under new ownership or new management, but it has significantly improved since it first opened. I used to come here a lot when I was a kid, and back then the food honestly wasn't as good as I remembered. Now Big difference. The french fries are immaculate seriously, a single order will get you through an entire lunch break. The bacon is delicious and, thankfully, no longer burnt. I don't know what was going on before, but they've definitely figured it out. And they're no longer using that block of government cheese situation on the bacon, egg, and cheese everything tastes fresher. Warning do not come here on the weekdays before and after school hours you will be bombarded by teens! You have been warned lol. This morning I ordered a breakfast platter, the eggs were good, the turkey bacon was burnt and the home fries taste like potatoes from a stew so breakfast is a no for me but lunch is the opposite so no for breakfast and yes for lunch. Let me begin with. I've been supporting this business for many many years as I was living in the area. I was driving by the other day and wanted to stop to get something to drink cuz that 1/2 & 1/2 is my thing! when I went in I also decided to add a cheese and egg sandwich to my order. When it was time for me to pay, I noticed that I was being overcharged when I mentioned it to the guy he kept on telling me that this was the price so I paid without an issue. I really did not want to go back and forth so I paid got my food and when I get to my car I opened up my sandwich, and firstly, it looked like someone smashed the sandwich flat, and there was only eggs in my sandwich no cheese. I go back inside to let them know and all they did was slap cold cheese on my sandwich put it on the grill for a minute put it back in the original packaging and give it to me. Then another person behind the counter gave me back change and said your sandwich was not the cost you paid. It was cheaper. So I was overcharged and had I not returned I wouldn't have gotten my money back but also in this moment, when I said the price was different, no one intercepted. I now go to my car I open up my sandwich and I eat half no problem. I begin to eat the other half when I noticed a weird taste I look in the sandwich I immediately have to spit the sandwich out because there was bacon in my sandwich. Not long strips of bacon, a bunch of tiny pieces of bacon scattered throughout the whole sandwich. I have not eaten meat in over five years, so this was definitely the last straw for me. The best deli !!!! Because this is not my corner bodega I go here for very specific things. BLT, Philly cheese steak on a roll with everything on it, and of course the half and half. Wanted 2 cold turkey heroes but not familiar with this exact area so I looked to Yelp for help and saw Marissa M's review so I went with it. It was busy so that was a good sign and both guys working were nice enough. It took a minute to take my order and some time to be made but I didn't mind (so as Jerry L. said call ahead). This place is either win or loss. I have been coming and supporting or tryin for years. As the years has gone by this place of customer service as well as food orders being done right or even the freshness of the food has gone down. You would assume this place with all the business it gets, they would be on top of their food and service but they seem to always get orders wrong. Another thing I have noticed is the food freshness, the lettuce they give is old and soggy, the meat taste funny and it's just all sloppy. I do my best to not go here anymore but when it gets real late, I sometimes take a chance and nearly 9/10 times I have an issue. There was one time I ordered food in advance because a lot of the times they take forever, when I got there I was told my order was not ready, yet I noticed one of the workers eating my order on the side as if I did not see them so I had to wait another 20mins after I ordered the food an hour prior. back in the 90s it was just called a burger hero from your corner deli. in Connecticut it was called a grinder with yellow american and cooked onions. now people are calling it a chopped cheese. some are also calling it nyc answer to a cheese steak, but when was the last time you saw lettuce and tomato on a philly cheese steak. chopped cheese is a burger and what makes it different is the chopped burger patty on the hero/club bread. its easy to make at home but you can never replicate the taste and experience of taking it out of the brown bag and breaking off the wax paper. burger patty, american cheese, lettuce, tomato, light mayo and ketchup, and great bread. that's the one thing you never have to worry about in the N.Y.C., great crusty breads for sandwiches. that first bite brought me back to 90s summers. only thing missing was the super ice cold Arizona tea that I forgot to get in a corner deli of all places. read more

I live in Massachusetts and when I come visit I now come to Brooklyn, I make it my business to take that 20min drive to visit this Deli every time I am in NY. They have amazing breakfast, anyone of their sandwiches are good, and get a half and half (lemonade/tea) or just a sweet tea with extra ice because it is really sweet. This deli doesn't get the credit it deserves. It's not Cherry Valley but they make sandwiches just as good as they do. Out of all the delis in the area this is one of the few that's 24hrs and still allows people to walk in late at night. Most people come in here for their heroes, even my friends, and they live in places such as Elmhurst and Flushing. When I come I usually get #19 aka The Way or New Way which is essentially a fried chicken cutlet with turkey bacon, mozzarella, lettuce and tomato, onions and 1000 island dressing. My God, you have to try it to understand the joy I get from devouring this incredibly delicious hero. Everything there is made fresh to order and the deli also serves as a mini grocery for small food items. They carry a wide variety of items. I get my black forest gummy bears from them too! ( yeah I'm a bearded big kid). Most recently they started carrying Deep River snacks which is a regional potato chip brand based in Connecticut. The staff is friendly, and the older brotha in there is a fixture of the neighborhood. In the years I've been coming in, they get every order out quick as they can and correct. The weekends and after school hours is when they're jam packed so if you have their number use it and call your order in if you want to avoid the old heads waiting on their lottery numbers and the hood chicks with their bebe's kids in tow. read more

Moved to the area in Jan of 2019 and nearly 90% of the time I go into this store, I regret it. The main problem with this store is that they don't listen to your order. You could try to get their attention but they'll ignore you if their buddies at in the store. Also, as they write your order down it seems to come back wrong 50% of the time and that's BAD. Then they fight with you and try to tell YOU what you said when you know you didn't. Now lets get to the food, bc that's all that matters really. They clearly rush every meal they make and the menu isn't what it says at times. For instance, the "Grilled Chicken" is not grilled chicken, it's just random halal seasoned chicken that's not grilled at all. In-fact I've found bones in this chicken that's suppose to be boneless, never ordered that again. Let's also get to the sloppiness and bread, first of all if you want your bread actually toasted make sure you tell them "extra toasted" because they will not toast your bread, secondly they are very sloppy because of them rushing so you'll get a really sloppy sandwich, some like that but I personally don't. Now when they actually get an order right then the food is decent but still very overly priced. A sandwich you can find anywhere in Queens for $3, they'll charge $4.50/$5 for. The crew is fairly nice besides about 3 of them, the early morning guy with the beard seems to always act off. The beefy dude that's going bald, hairy arms is probably the worst out of them all, he ALWAYS has an attitude but kisses up to certain people, thinks he's a tough guy. The new young fella at night is your typical "ladies man worker", he'll flirt and be nice with every female there is but once he deals with a male, he puts his tough guy, annoyed mood on.
