After researching the part online, I found the replacement cartridge available for less than $75. It appears to be a 30-minute job. I asked the supervisor for a breakdown of the cost between labor and material. He said that they don't give a breakdown. They appear to be hiding their labor cost, which seems to be very high. I wouldn't let the technician do the job and pay an $80 fee for the visit.

Then I had the opportunity to work with "Take the Plunge Plumbing". Situation: My daughters exterior Rinnai Tankless Water Heater exploded. I use American Home Shield (AHS) home warranty. They assigned Take the Plunge Plumbing. Action: The water was off in the house and this call was expedited. The company was on time, kept me in the loop and always professional. I give that credit to the Owner and Tequila their associate. Follow-Through: AHS wanted a second opinion most likely because the entire unit needed to be replaced. Another company came one week later which left me without water for a week. Take the Plunge Plumbing still came back and attempted to get the manufacture to replace the unit on warranty. Conclusion: AHS gave the entire job to the second company. Completely unfair to Take the Plunge Plumbing. I offered to pay them for their extra time, and they refused. That was quite kind of them. The way they dealt with me throughout this very frustrating process was outstanding. The only other review for this company is a person who did not like the way a truck was driving. My review is dealing directly with this company. I will use them in the future, they are credible, and family owned. Eat well, drink well and always stay healthy.

I moved forward largely because of their customer satisfaction guarantee. Austyn, the project manager, was friendly, level-headed, and straightforward, and his communication was clear with timely updates. Every employee who came to the house was courteous and professional, and they worked diligently while on-site. Unfortunately, the project has involved repeated issues, delays, and added costs, and I am still without a working system. The initial installation placed both the indoor cassette and outdoor unit incorrectly. After a second visit, the placement was corrected. Following that visit, I was asked to sign paperwork stating the work was complete. Assuming the system was functional, I signed. When I immediately went to test it, the system would not turn on. I then learned the electrical work had not yet been completed, meaning the project was not actually finished at the time I was asked to sign. They did return with an electrician afterward. Once electrical was completed, the system still would not operate properly. After further troubleshooting, it was determined one cassette had a manufacturer defect--an internal copper coil leak. While the manufacturer provided a replacement unit, I was advised that manufacturer defects are not covered and that the company does not inspect or test units prior to installation. I was then told it would cost an additional $2,300 to install the replacement, despite the system never having been fully operational. I consulted other HVAC companies, who advised they would typically replace a defective unit in this situation without charging additional labor. Due to the unresolved issues, completion sign-off concerns, and the system still not functioning, I have filed a formal complaint with the Alabama Board of Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors. While the staff on-site has been professional and communication initially was solid, my experience ultimately involved significant setbacks, additional costs, and an unfinished result.

And I didn't even feel like they wanted my business to begin with even though I live close by. After I complained about the price he told me that they don't fix appliances, only diagnose the problem. I would have never had them come out if I had known this. We hired another plumber for a separate job last week and the service call was only $89. When I told him that Chapman had fixed an outdoor faucet for us about a year ago, he told me they didn't even do that right. Never again!!
