So I took him here and let me tell you...this guy has barely bought a thing since moving here, and he spent $72 at ATWM! I was confused and disgusted by almost everything I saw but I guess that's how he feels when he goes in my supermarkets and sees steaks and ground beef. This is an absolutely great Indian/Hallal market. While a bit out of the way, it has everything that one might want. It's got fresh veggies, fruit, nuts, etc..., but it's also got a pretty decent frozen section and a solid Indian beer stock. The real winner here, though, is the amazing long grain/South Asian rice selection. Many Asian markets get stuck in the Korean/Japanese glutinous rice ordering patterns (that's good for many things), but sometimes jasmine is what you need. Store closes a little late compared to other Indian stores in the area. The manager here is very friendly and the best part is he did take in requests for items that you would like to have in the store for purchase. Eg I was looking for an item which I only saw in the Indian stores in NJ. No other Indian stores kept that in Raleigh. The manager was very friendly to note that item and ordered it. I'm not brown, but I've got pretty good street cred w/ the brown crew. Around the World Market is as authentic as you can get outside of Toronto (where South Asians make up 12% of the population). And yes, its name is Around the World Market, but what they mean is "Around the World...to India!" Market. You're not gonna find caviar here. I especially love Indian sweets b/c they contain 3 basic ingredients in descending order of composition: BUTTER, SUGAR, and a tiny amount of flour. So feel my pain when after a year of living in the Triangle and I found pretty good/authentic Chinese food (hell, even an acceptable dim sum place!), but still no good Indian places. ENTER SCENE: AROUND THE WORLD MARKET. *Cue me sobbing with joy.* First off, there's a legit pastry display at the front of the store. BURFI + Susan = TWU WUV!!!1!!1!!!!!111! You get a box, you point out the pastries you want, you pay $6.99-7.99/lb. The store is deceptively small, but it's basically the brown version of Grand Asia near the border of Raleigh/Cary. It opens up very far into the back and I easily spent 30 mins just *browsing* for a single-person household. It's got fresh produce - BROWN STYLE. We're talking Indian bittermelon (uglier than Chinese bittermelon & also more bitter), fruits, 20lb sacks of onions (sorry, not brown enough for that), like 4 aisles worth of frozen goods, and everything else you would want. If you're brown or have adopted it as a second culture and have never been to Around the World....well....stop being a poser and go to Around the World! Also: There's a small buffet/resto attached to the restaurant. $10 for buffet, basically the best Indian buffet I've had in the Triangle with naan made fresh-to-order. AT A BUFFET! A friend of mine, Noorul gets a lot of gratitude for steering me towards this, the largest and greatest of all Triangle Indian grocers. This is a Western-style Indian grocery that is HUGE and clean and very organized. Picture an Indian grocery with a footprint the size of a small "The Fresh Market" and you'll get the idea. This place is stocked with all different types of Indian delights. Driving along Hillsborough on the outskirts of Cary, it is easy to miss Around the World Market, because it is situated in a nondescript metal building strip mall on the right as you head towards Raleigh. My husband had not been in to this shop in quite a while and says that they have gone through a massive expansion, since he visited several years ago. The shop is deceptively large. From the outside, it looks like a small shop, but when you enter, you discover that it is very deep and the aisles go on and on and on. As you enter, you'll discover beautiful cases of hand made Indian sweets or mithai. To the right, you'll see a large section of Indian soaps, creams and medicinal products. I love the smell of the Mysore Sandal Soaps. As you walk further, you'll see a long rectangular frozen section with a lot of frozen Indian vegetables. Traditional American freezer cases line the walls and are filled with all sorts of frozen convenience meals, all types of Indian breads from all states, kulfi (ice cream) in mango, pistachio, cardamom and rose. There's even a pizza made from chapati for the western foray into Indian food. Pickles are a religion in India. They're also pretty political. This store has a pickle shrine- an entire aisle with all sorts of pickles- mango pickle, lemon pickle, date pickle, garlic pickle, you get the idea. There is a massive aisle of our favorite snacks- jackfruit chips, mixtures from each state- Kerala mixture, Hyderabadi mixture, Madras mixture, etc. There are banana chips (this is what brought us into Around the World Market today- Triangle Indian Market was out of them), all types of biscuits and papadum, candy and sweets. The vegetable section is glorious. Ecstasy. Everything is in perfect condition. There is a lot of space and variety. Today I saw vegetables that I've never seen in other Indian markets. All vegetables appeared to be of the best quality and in good stock. I recently ran into a ginger shortage at one grocer and a plantain shortage at another. This place has banana flowers, banana leaves, every gourd and bean imaginable. The prices are comparable to all of the other Indian grocers in the area. I appreciate the fact that Around the World is well stocked and does not appear to face many of the inventory challenges that other local Indian grocers do. I love that with so many of the foods we buy under one roof, we may not have to make multiple stops. I don't think they have our rice, but perhaps they will order it. Fantastic discovery! Amazing. My mother-in-law is from India, and she *literally* jumped for joy when we found this place. She kept saying that the only other place she's seen such a wonderful variety of all her favorite brands and products was back in India! Anything you could possibly imagine wanting for IndIan cuisine - grains, spices, produce, cooking implements, teas, snacks, sweets, frozen veggies and prepared foods, and even beauty products - you will find it here! They are exceptionally well-organized and well-stocked. The produce section is wonderful, too - full of veggies I've never heard of as well as standards like cilantro and eggplants and tomatoes. The staff is really helpful - don't hesitate to ask for assistance if you're lost, overwhelmed, or just need a recommendation! Speaking of which, here are my recommendations: *Pista (pistachio-flavored) Kulfi (ice cream) - only the most amazing, even-better-than-gelato ice cream you'll ever taste!! Sometimes you have to take a chance and step into a world perhaps you know nothing about. I have to admit that I know nothing about Indian culture or food. I decided to create an Indian dish from scratch. This is when I had to find a good Indian market. Around the World Market seems like its on the other side of the world between Raleigh and Cary. Plenty of parking and more parking around back. Very friendly staff. The store takes a while to find what you are looking for. But ask any employee and they will be willing to help. In fact, one employee gave me recipe improvements. (the dish turned out perfect). Prices are very reasonable. In fact, a quick price comparison was much better than Whole Foods - and better variety if you are looking exclusively for Indian products. Don't expect "muzak" over the loudspeaker. I had no idea what was playing, but enjoyable and perhaps educational in sound. I felt like i was overseas already. The store is very clean and the vegetable section is good quality and fresh. If you don't plan on cooking anything, please check out the chips and sweets section. Its worth looking at and perhaps trying. read more

Hurts to give 3 stars to a place that I visit in almost weekly basis, but hear me out. The collection of the grocery isle and frozen aisle is as good as it gets in the Triangle area, and I found prices to be very reasonable, and less overall than nearby similar places. The produce section is also good, I found mostly fresh vegetables at good prices. As a grad student coming from South Asia, this has been a life saver. I can remember countless times, when I was dearly missing a particular dish back from my country, I visited the store, found all the necessary stuff and cooked up a storm in the kitchen :-) Thats why it hurts dissing the store, but here goes. They dont regularly remove expired stuff from their shelves, and I have even seen expired items put on sale (probably to get rid of them fast, which indicates that the whole thing is intentional). It usually happens with stuff that are slow to move. NOT cool. Also, occasionally, they overcharge your card. It happened to me couple times. NOT cool at all. In short, please visit the store, there are treasures to be found for sure, but please keep an eye on the expiry date (more so if its on sale), and please add up your receipt. read more

Huge market seems to sell mainly grains. I found the frozen foods to be more expensive than my current Indian market place (spice bazar). They also have a lot of Indian sweets and cater for big parties and sell some fresh vegetarian food. Only 4 stars because they could not give me a receipt for my purchase. Store is much larger than it appears on the outside and packed with staples of Indian and Persian cooking. While the produce was limited and very sad looking when I went on a Sunday, some good deals to be had. Lots of bean, rice, nut, and flour options and in bulk sizes too. Careful to check the expiry dates (everything was fine that I looked at) I picked up raw cashews, black salt, dates, pomegranate molasses and date syrup. This is my favorite market in the entire triangle. The owner is very friendly. My wife and I shop here and her relatives visiting from overseas were so pleased with some of the feminine products that she now ships these to them. We buy our rice, daal, saffron, fresh veggies and herbs such as bitter melon, Indian eggplant, and Kerala leaves. The pastries are excellent and the bakery is a blessing to have in Triangle. While you shop you can wait for your order of fresh naan. The market reminds me of markets in Azerbaijan. read more

This place has everything you need (especially spices, different varieties of rice, and a wide range of flours) to cook world cuisine, and the prices are amazing! Here you can get 4 to 12 ounces of a spice for $2.99 to $4.99 that would cost you $4.99 to $9.99 for 0.5 to 2 ounce at Whole Foods, and you can get a 5 pound bag of white rice flour for a third of what it costs at Whole Foods. Plus, if you look dazed and confused by the wide selection, the helpful and friendly staff is more than glad to help you find just what you need. read more

Friendly and helpful staff. And the prices cannot be beat! For example, a microwavable Indian meal sold for nearly $4 at Harris Teeter was listed for only $0.99. We spent nearly an hour in here and didn't even get to every section. This market is absolutely stocked! There have been many different Indian grocery stores in the Triangle since 2010, but this one, according to me, is the best. The items are very well organized, the prices are fair, and the vegetables fresh and cheap. Really, what gets to me is that no other Indian grocery stores is able to organize their items in a fashion as good as Around the World. Their rewards program is not the greatest, but do enroll in it. You will find everything that the other stores won't have. Oh and they also have Karachi Bakery biscuits :) read more

I hate to give them one star as they have all the spices and food stuff I need for Indian food. My friend loves the Desi yogurt from there. But we got the worst customer service there today. The lady at the first counter refused to check us out and told us to pay at the register by the door. We waited 10/15 minutes to pay for our stuff and the entire time I could look over and see this woman checking out other customers. I have no idea what that was about. My friend suggested that maybe it was because I was wearing a tank top and my tattoo was showing. This is not the first time the people working there were extremely rude to me. A little about me before I comment, I'm a typical broke "Indian" college student who just happened to pick this place to take a friend out. I don't have a lot of money and work very hard to earn every dollar I make. As we walked in there today, I asked her a few questions about what she would prefer and I told her I hate samosas. I trusted her suggestion and ordered pani Puri and it ended up tasting like shit. It was bland ( shells stuffed with bland mashed potato goo dipped in green water with absolutely no flavor).. apart from that the quantity of the mushy goo and green water was absurd compared to the shells. When I asked for a refund or to switch to something else they refused and shook their heads. So my friend and I shared a tiny plate of food..i just got home and about to cook for the both of us because I didn't have money to buy something else..... I visited this store this weekend with my service dog. Having lived in India and recently moved to Raleigh, I was very excited to find a store where I could find quality ingredients. Upon arriving, however, I was appalled at the discriminatory treatment and outright harassment I received. Despite having presented both the employees and the owner with the federal and state laws that protect disabled service dog handlers, it was still insisted that I had no right to be in their store due to my disability. Employees followed me around the store, accused my service dog of being dangerous (this is an impeccably trained animal who had not so much as glanced at another customer), told me I should be leaving my service dog in the car despite the intense and deadly heat outside, and demanded I leave on countless occasions. After more than an hour spent attempting to resolve the issue I was forced to call police out to address the blatant harassment. No business should harass and discriminate against a disabled individual. Not only is doing so a violation of the law, it is simply cruel. I sincerely hope that the owners of this chain take police advice and educate themselves on federal service dog law so that future service dog teams do not have to confront this kind of appalling behavior. read more

I was there the day before and was"accidentally" charged 45 $ more than what I owe them. I'm a college student trying to make ends meet and obviously don't have much money In my pocket. That mistake completely wiped out my account and now I have no money. He said he refunded the money back into my account and I should have it within the next day I said I have to get other groceries and if he could cancel it and give me a cash refund and he said he already batched out and to wait until the next day.. two days have passed and I still don't have my money. So I called several times and someone picks up after they got tired of hanging up on me over and over again and told me to wait for another day so I show up there and couldn't get in touch with a manager.
