Came here for my first Barry's RIDE x Lift class and I'm so glad I did! It's a larger studio as it's one of the few with stationary bike classes. The cycling room is downstairs. Your first shoe rental is free and the staff helped me find the perfect size as well as strap me into the bike pedals. Class was fast paced and had a great playlist. I enjoyed it despite not being a huge cycling fan. I do wish a bit more instruction was provided on cycling form and the different terms used/how to adjust resistance but other than that it was a great experience. read more

I enjoy spin + this is the only location in NYC that has RIDE x SPIN classes. This location is relatively spacious and well-kept. There's a red room for RUN x LIFT on the main fl and a red room for RIDE x LIFT downstairs. Tons of lockers - a good amt downstairs and a ton upstairs + inside the Men/Women lockers. The Women locker room is spacious. I love the OUAI products and have gotten some free samples (OUAI, Kiehl's, etc.) a couple of times at the studio through their partnerships. My go-to instructor is John T. on Saturdays! He has great energy throughout the class + does a great job at instructing both bikes + floor simultaneously. Unlike RUN x LIFT classes, 25 min is spent at bikes/floor, then you switch once. The lightest weights for their RIDE x LIFT classes is 8lbs. Staff here is nice and helpful, especially in setting up the new studio bikes. First pair of shoes are free, then it's $3 rental afterwards (cheaper than SoulCycle). Barry's offers one of the most intense workouts in the city, and this location is a second choice for me. I've been coming here for years, and it never fails to deliver a challenge. The workout alternates between treadmill intervals and floor weights, all led by a motivating instructor who keeps the energy high from start to finish. The facility is clean but a little small. Not as nice as the NoHo one **Pro tip:** Bring your own water--buying it on-site can get pricey. read more

I was so hyped for this class during my NYC work trip since a lot of my colleagues and boss are die hard regulars. However, the reality was far from my expectations. The admin when I checked in was ok - not super friendly but that's fine since this wouldn't have been my home base if I signed up for a membership anyways. The front is clean and of course, there's the infamous smoothie bar. The Red Room though, oh boy. It was a hot and humid 85*F at 8AM already which is insanely warm for this SF girl. Upon entering the Red Room, you're trapped in there with a bunch of bodies and the class was fully committed. The treads were really nice but they didn't have any built in fans. I looked up and there were fans on the wall but nothing was turned on - no air, no AC with the door closed - for a good 40+ minutes. Was this the intent? Not sure. There were 2 transitions - tread to floor then back to tread and finish on the floor. Nowhere at any point did we wipe down our stations nor the weights we used which was really nasty. Yes, we have a towel but it's not sanitary to be laying on that then using it to wipe your face/body. Since there were several classes before mine, I'm assuming I'm laying on other people's sweat as well...? Additionally, if you're not comfortable with running, you won't survive on the tread. Base pace was already at a 7 and it only climbs higher from there. While the coach was great and the playlist was amazing, I just couldn't follow the instructions for the floor work. There was absolutely no demo, just a bunch of chaotic yelling. Had to constantly look at the person next to me to figure out what's going on. Compared to other classes I've taken, the coach also doesn't go around the room to check on your form. Overall, this was meh and expensive. At other gyms or workout classes, you'd typically get a free session to try it out. Nope, not here. You have the option to purchase a single class pass or a "discounted" 3 pack. I opted for the 3 pack (has to be used within a month) since I thought I'd like it but I honestly let the other 2 classes expire because I couldn't bring myself to go back. read more

Barry's Chlesea is one of the nicer studios I have been to for Barrys. The red room in this studio is a great size and it also has windows in it which in other red rooms i have been to there are no windows. So to have some sunlight coming through was nice. The staff here that I interacted with were nice and helpful. I just wish it wasn't so far out of my way to come here more often for classes. read more

Barry's Chelsea is a pretty good location, though the studio itself feels a little cramped especially when it's a full class. Barry's is always such a killer workout, no matter if it's Total Body, Arms and Abs, Abs and Ass, etc. My fave days are generally the Total Body because they're really effective, versus the other days I find myself so fatigued by the second half of the class that it's hard to lift more weights. It definitely takes 5 or so classes to truly get the hang of Barry's otherwise it can be really challenging as a beginner. Basically you start on the treadmill or weights for about 12-14 mins, switch to the other side, and then repeat. My fave instructors are definitely Paris and Joe A. With Paris, I get in such a good workout because he doesn't include breaks (lol). Joe A is super motivating and I love his music! read more

I attended my first Barry's class this morning and I personally had a lot of fun! I did a RIDE x LIFT - Abs + Ass workout. We were given bike shoes for free before the class. Once the doors opened we were led into the red room and directed to the bikes. The bike was already set up with a towel attached. It was a bit hard to get on lol but they were helpful to help us get set up. Everyone seemed to start on the bikes. This portion lasted for the first half of the class. The workout consisted of different rounds of sprinting, hopping out of the saddle, staying in the seat, etc. to hype music along with some head banging or other various body movements. The instructor also varied the lighting throughout the class. A lot of my friends said they didn't like the bike but I personally loved this portion. For the latter half of the class, we were directed to the floor. There were boxes set up with another towel and we were instructed to grab weights and bands. This workout consisted of various exercises back to back, from goblet squats with the band to crunches. It wasn't superrr intense in my opinion but I was sweating. The only thing is the instructor kind of just calls out the exercises. It felt like it was more geared towards people with fitness experience since otherwise it's hard to determine what exactly you're supposed to be doing. Another thing I'll note is that the classes feel a bit impersonal. I do workout classes at my gym and I feel like I get to know and talk to my instructors a bit throughout the class but this is more the instructor shouting at everyone as a group for 50 minutes. But it's not necessarily a bad thing depending on personal preference. After the workout, I took a shower in the locker rooms which were stocked with Oribe products. My hair is feeling quite soft today hehe. Overall, it was a good and fun experience. Not sure if it's worth $40 a class though. read more

The men's shower area and locker room always has a lot of water on the floor due to the poor insulation of shower door, it has not been fixed since last year. Also they should put wood shower stand, so people have a place to dry their feet and not stepping on the dirty floor with wet feet after showering. read more

I normally love group fitness, and I thought Barry's ride was awful. The studio itself is disorganized. I was new and the layout for where ride is is confusing. On a busy day I couldn't figure it out on my own and had to get help from someone. I take a ton of spin classes. These bikes are cheaply made and I kept falling out of mine. Their shoes are awful quality and felt loose. Pieces of the shoes were falling off. The bikes are disorganized and as a first timer I couldn't find mine. The numbers are totally out of order. Normally the Barry's teachers are really good. The one I had was extremely loud and wasn't conscious of helping the people in the class. Overall; I I'd absolutely not recommend this class and won't be returning. At $40 it's totally a ripoff. read more

Better than Barry's NoHo, but still not quite there considering the price. I love the Ride x Lift class - so much fun to switch between the both. The annoying thing (still) with Barry's is I have no clue what each floor workout is called, and then I look for others around me for help. Most of the time I see the other people in the class doing the same thing! It's just a lot of work for one instructor to orchestrate, and perhaps they could benefit from TVs with videos streaming what the workouts look like. Love Barry's Bootcamp! The workouts are so simple and straightforward and yet effective. It feels more like a guided gym workout for optimal results. You do get sore the next day but like every workout, if you do it regularly, you can kiss that soreness goodbye! PRO: The juice bar! You have the option to order your protein shakes ahead of time so that when you're done, you can pick up your drink. And I really like how they break down the workouts by the day of the week along with the flexibility of choosing the double floor or the regular. Double floor consists of strength training throughout the class while the regular consists of both strength training and treadmill. They have limited double floor space avaliable so it is recommended to book your space ahead of time, either via their website or by calling in. The shower/changing room is also well equipped with build-in locks, towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, lotions, etc. CON: They don't have unlimited monthly membership. So expect to pay $500 a month if you want to be a regular. However they do have new student discount after your first purchase on their website... but not maintainable since it's limited time only. read more

Wow I cannot say enough about this location! Not only is it spacious, the employees are next level! I always come to Barry's (almost every day) and always have a fantastic experience. Barry's is always a quality and fun workout. ESPECIALLY with Erick! One of my favorite trainers. He is not shy at all about pushing us to our limits individually, and I always find myself going for higher speeds and never taking breaks on the floor, getting the most out of my workout always. I always try to go to his classes as his energy and enforcing of your own accountability are unmatched. However, what sets this particular studio apart is the amazing staff. On my way out of the studio, I accidentally tossed my tank top in with the towels into the laundry bin. I realized when I got home that I didn't have it, and immediately called to see if they could look around for it. They are such a busy studio, always balancing people coming in and out of workouts, and they were able to take my calls and be patient with my panicked overreaction. It's so easy for studios to just ignore small issues like these and not really search for lost items, but they made sure to do a deep search and were able to find my tank! Laundered and everything! They called and let me know that they had set it in the back for me to pick up after work! I am so appreciative and will for sure be coming back to this location. I had been wanting to try Barry's for some time. And with a few VERY minor exceptions, it really is five-stars all around! Firstly, I want to point out that it isn't necessarily a "bootcamp" - at least the class I was in, no one is screaming at you. The goal is to stick with it as long as you can, but no one else's workout is depending on yours. The only workout depending on your workout is your own. How hard can YOU work, and how can you change your body? While they don't have any "first-timer" discounts, I have had several friends going regularly and so I decided to give it a try. The concept is a bit confusing but fairly simple once you wrap your head around it. It's a two-part workout: cardio and weights. You can easily go at your own level and feel comfortable whether you are a newbie or well-seasoned. Choose a spot: Treadmill or floor. Don't worry about which one you choose - you'll get a chance to do both. Your spot has a number (T-11 or F-11 for example) which corresponds to the spot in the room you'll be in. Then, during the workout, you'll switch to the opposite spot in the room (if you started on the treadmill, you'll move to the floor - and if you started on the floor, you'll switch to the treadmill). Note: If you choose Double Floor (any spot with a DF before it, you won't be on the treadmill at all for the entire class) The workout itself is about getting your heart rate up, and weight training to maximize your body's ability to burn fat and build muscle. Since you'll be doing more reps - it's more about toning than bulking up, which is perfect for my own goals. On the treadmill, it will involve various inclines and sprints, anywhere from 4-9 minutes at a time. And on the floor, a combination circuit of anywhere from 4-9 minutes at a time. As always, every class depends on your instructor. We had Harley, who was awesome - while there wasn't much individual attention as he is continuously giving direction to both the "shredders" on the treadmill and to the others on the floor - he always made sure to give examples of the routine before each one. The class flowed smoothly. The lockers are small - complete with digilocks so you don't need to bring your own lock. They have towel service with Malin & Goetz products (the showers are SUPER tiny). And protein shakes and snacks from Hu Kitchen in the entry area. Overall, a great class, and I will definitely be back soon. I'm even thinking of trying out one of their Academies - 5 days a week for a month at the same time every day! As a heads up, if you only buy a single class, it will set you back $34. read more

I have been to Barrys for years and all over the US & the world (Paris, London), and I shall reserve my review for my "home studio" It's a great workout! It has this reputation of being crazy with instructors yelling at you but I think they've changed that over time and now for the most part they're quite nice and encouraging especially if you're a first timer (and I've brought many over the years). Things to improve: - quality of instructors varies. They're all pretty good for the most part but I personally really dislike "combo movements" of both lower and upper body when I was not told in advance and therefore brought the wrong weights to my station. I do not want to be lunging with 12 pound weights but alternatively cannot do chest flys with bigger weights than that so please say what we are doing so I don't feel like I'm wasting my time. Some instructors put on EDM music which I'm not a fan of. Bring on the Biebz for my sprints (jk, maybe) - some people have poor Barrys etiquette. Don't drop the weights. Please remove your eyes from your reflection for 15 seconds while putting away your weights so you don't hit me. Wipe your puddles of sweats - they have a rather infuriating policy where if you ask for water from the tap in one of those Barrys plastic cups and put a lid on it, you still can't take it into the studio. I get that you want me to buy the $2.50 water you sell but after the tens of thousands of dollars I've spent over the years on classes, shakes and merch I find it ridiculous to be asked not to take this cup of water (with a lid so it's not spilling) to class. If I had taken the EXACT SAME cup from starbucks and filled it with water from the tap at Barrys, it would have been fine (and I do this) read more

Two words: Malin + Goetz. That's 30% of the reason why I love coming to Barry's. After showering after a class I just feel like a new person. The other reasons I come to Barry's is because they do this intense combination of cardio and strength training. I'm not a runner and there's no way I can reach the 12-15 that they ask you to do, but even so, I think it's a good way force yourself to do both cardio and weight training. This is coming from someone who HATES exercising. I'm always very glad I came, but I hate every second of class. Still though, Barry's is a great work out and I love it, especially coming via Class Pass which makes it a big deal. You pretty much get out of it what you put into it as well. The red lighting doesn't hurt either to make yourself feel good about yourself in the mirror Lastly, I'm not ashamed to say I love Barry's workout gear and that their protein shakes are delicious and very reasonable priced. They also have awesome other amenities like ear plugs, hair ties, tampons and hair care products. You could tell that she was uncomfortable and inexperienced running the class. The basement room itself is way too small and tight. When you get to the weights section, the ceiling is low and there's not enough space between benches. Barry's Ride was an opportunity to milk more money from the consumers. I've gone to Barry's three times now and each time I leave wondering what is the hype about? Since I've been here, I've never seen an instructor go around to correct people's form. Once they've decided an area to show the exercise, they never go around the room to ensure everyone knows what is going on. Compared to other boutique studios, Barry's definitely feels less personable. I'm also wary about the treadmill portion. Especially when their defined speed parameters seem outrageous. ie. their jog speed is a run for most, their run speed is a sprint speed for most. I never follow their guidelines to be honest, because I want to go according to a speed my body is comfortable with but still challenging vs. very unreasonable. The facilities are nice and in line with what one would expect from a boutique studio. The instructors are energetic, but I think they could be more encouraging. read more

Love Barry's!! I remember living in LA (many years ago) and taking from Barry at his West Hollywood location. Years later, I'm living in NY and starting up again to get in shape for my upcoming wedding. I've now taken three classes all with different instructors and they have all been challenging. (at least for me) It's like having a trainer and workout buddies motivating and pushing you. The music and the flattering red lighting helps too! I like to preorder a smoothie so it's ready for me right after class. I've only tried the açaí berry and I'm sticking with it! So good. I haven't used the showers yet but the women's locker room is really nice and clean. I only wish they had a Barry's right in Hell's Kitchen. After years of seeing Barry's Bootcamp signs during visits to LA, I was really excited to find out that Barry's had expanded a ton and while they aren't yet in Arizona, they are in New York and had a location close to the hotel I was staying at for a work trip... I signed up for Courtney's 6am butt & leg class along with 2 fellow fitness fanatic colleagues. None of us had ever taken a BB class before, and it kicked our butts (aka it did what it was meant to!) The front desk staff was welcoming and friendly enough, and the studio was packed when we arrived at 5:45am. We were told that Courtney's classes always fill up, and now I know why. He brings it all: energy, entertainment, enthusiasm, and inspiration. I admired how he worked the packed room the entire time we were there; whether you are on a treadmill or on the floor, Courtney will keep you working! Great motivational music too... There were obviously a ton of die hard Barry's Bootcampers in our class, and it felt a bit overwhelming as a newbie; the room being so dark didn't help either, but we figured it out and finished feeling great. I'd love to see BB expand to AZ so I could start my days with an awesome sweat session like the one I had in Chelsea. Until then, I'll hope to visit again soon... It's worth noting that I will have to save up my $$ to do so though; it is quite pricey. Also, sessions pre-purchased for the NY studios cannot be used in CA - that was a bummer to find out. Ever since I discovered Barry's Boot Camp, I've been hooked. The classes consist of circuit/HIIT workouts that include treadmill and weights. The trainers mix up the workouts every day to keep it interesting and fun! These workouts are definitely intense and will kick your butt. So, if you're a super beginner to fitness, I don't recommend starting here without letting your trainer know that this is your first rodeo. I've been to this location three times and I have enjoyed the workouts and trainers every time. The classes get for quickly so you definitely have to book ahead of time. The showers also tend to get used by a lot of the members so you may find yourself waiting to use the shower after class. The showers include towels, shampoo and conditioner, face wash and body wash. They also have blowdryers and flat iron's, which is great for someone on the go. This is a great way to get a good workout in within an hour and continue with your day! read more

Amazing class! Took a Sunday afternoon Full Body class with Robbie and enjoyed it. You either start on the treadmill or on the floor and after ~10 minutes or so, you switch. We did a ton of work on the floor, targeting glutes/legs (squats), chest and triceps (push-ups and diamond pushups), abs (bicycles, boat poses), arms (skullcrushers, bicep curls, etc). Fantastic workout. Then we switched to the treadmill (or if you start off on the treadmill, you switch to the floor). LOVED it. We did interval work - x minutes at jogging, then ramping it up to "running" speed, and then pushing it with rest periods in between. You can tailor the speed to how you feel and what you feel comfortable with. Truly a great workout. One detractor though to the class is that there are too many people to receive any individualized attention. The class was so big that if you are new to strength training/using weights, it's hard to know what the right form is and how to do the exercises. But, be safe and challenge yourself with what you can do. There were people of all shapes and sizes in the class, and we were all there for one thing: to get a good workout in and get in shape. With the Chelsea location, the locker room was a bit small - the area is so cramped. But I saw that there were 4 shower stalls, so that's nice. Plus everyone loves the malin + goetz products. I have no idea who this Barry dude is, but he's on to something. I showed up for a 6am class beyond exhausted (5am my time in Chicago!), but I was in good company with at least 50 other people for Courtney's butt & leg class. And apparently we were "lucky" to get a spot because there was a big wait list. Even the class before us seemed packed. Who works out at 5am??? I had no idea what to expect so here was the deal: There were 3 groups to start: 1) Treadmill group 2) Floor group doing the butt & leg exercises 3) Another floor group doing the same butt & leg exercises Halfway thru the class groups 1 & 2 switched places and group 3 got to do all the butt & leg exercises over again. Lucky them! I was in group 2 so did the floor and then the treadmill. I've never been so happy to see a treadmill after 30 minutes on the floor with Courtney. I do a similar class at home called Shred415* that I actually prefer because we switch from the treadmill to the floor more often. I'm not a runner so 30 minutes on the treadmill was a bit much for me, although Courtney was nice enough to give walking recovery breaks every so often. I"m also not really a butt & legs type of girl. Perhaps if I was I'd have a better butt & legs. I think I"d prefer an abs & arms class....or a full body workout would be even better. I hope to try one of the other days the next time I"m in a Barry's Bootcamp location. It looks like they have a studio in San Francisco, my home away from home. I loved Barrys and can fully see the hype around it. It was the first thing I booked after my flights and hotel. So bleary eyed and bushy tailed I turned up at 8am on day 1 of my holiday for the my 8.20 class. The staff were really helpful and I was impressed with the changing facilities. Free lockers, showers, hair products and hairdryers and towels. How I wish my local gym gave towels. Anyway, the class itself is intense. 15 mins treadmill, 15 mins exercises with Dumbbells and repeat. I had no idea what to fully expect. I spoke to the instructor and he was really helpful. The lady next to me was also a great help as I did struggle to move the treadmill quick enough, as in turn the resistance up quickly! After the class I was dripping in sweat with a really high calorie burn for he hour. If I could go more I would. Once I grabbed some pictures I ordered a protein shake which was ready rally quickly. I love bootcamp classes and I have been going to different types of boot camp or fitness classes around the city. Barry's Bootcamp is definitely one of my top choices. It is fun, scary, intense and very effective all at the same time. If you want to slack off, this is not your place to be. The instructor pushes you hard and the peer will push you even harder. I don't think I got a free sec to relax, drink water or even wipe my sweat. My shirt was completely soaked afterwards and I normally don't sweat so much. My legs are still sore after going nuts on the treadmill 2 days ago and that hasn't happened for a long time since I go to boot camp regularly. The price is pretty typical for these workout classes in NYC. Just be prepared to sweat and sore a lot and fight for a spot in the classes! Make sure you sign up a week in advance! read more

I started my journey's with Barry's in SF over a year ago and when I moved to New York in August, that relationship kept going. After all, a girl's gotta get her eye candy fix while simultaneously unleashing the beast within on those damn treadmills. The best part about Barry's is that no matter what city you are in, you know what you're getting when you sign up for a class - one hour of pure butt kicking intensity! You will be exhausted, but oh baby, you will also have that endorphin high and it is beautiful! While I was enjoying the funemployed life, I had the opportunity to take classes at this location with the fitness celebrities, Harley Rodriguez, Patrick Frost, Natalie Raitano, Barrett Pall, and the master of it all, Barry Jay! All of the instructors are good and have that star power charisma. However, given that a lot of these instructors have been teaching for a while, sometimes, they do have their off days when you do feel that they're not giving you that energy and pumping up the class. Sometimes the instructors might seem slightly distanced from the class and just don't pass out form tips and tricks and corrections like candy on Halloween night! That being said, my all time favorite is Barrett. With Barrett, I have always felt that he constantly gives it his all and is always keeping an eye on the class. Sometimes, when the class is at that low point, he's so good at recognizing it and then saying something super inspirational so that your body is like bae, I'm exhausted, but your mind is like, we got this and then you just kick ass and empty your tank for the rest of class! My favorite part about Barrett is that for the last set of sprints, he goes around to each person in the class and asks everyone individually for a speed goal. EVERYONE! The "best workout". I mean it is true. When you don't want to go to the gym and lift and you're in a time crunch for a workout, come here. Ok not everybody looks like an Abercrombie model, so this is for those people like myself. There are some obvious fitness gurus here and that makes me feel good knowing that even they come here. If you need a run as part of your workout too this is a perfect mix and match of floor work with dumbbells, sandbags, and resistance bands. I'll say this might be the only reason why I've held onto ClassPass as well. Come once a week or more, but Barry's always gives me a good sweat and results to match. read more

This is probably my fave workout when I don't want to go to the gym and lift. I'm a personal trainer & group fitness instructor and I really do like Barry's but this last class with Oliver L. on March 8th 9:30am was not a pleasant one. Not sure if he was in a bad mood or what but all he did was yell and curse the whole class. I would have given a higher rating if it wasn't for Oliver's attitude. Obviously there are going to be all levels of ability in class. There were a few people, next to each other, who were beginners and their form wasn't the best. He never once showed them how to correct their form once he got the class going. The class wasn't even a full. When the runners joined us on the floor, there were still empty spots. All he did was stand behind them and literally yell into his mic over & over & over again. He rolled his eyes at them and shot them pretty mean glances. When everyone was on the floor doing the exercises would have been a perfect time to give a great example of correct form but I guess he felt stand behind them, yelling into the mic repeatedly was more affective. It was so distracting because one, it's annoying as hell to have some one yelling like that when you're trying to squeeze out the last few reps of an exercise and two, I just felt bad for those people who clearly just needed a little extra guidance. I'll probably never take from him again. I wanted to give him a chance because I'd taken from him and actually liked his class. He was a bit abrasive before but nothing like this. I'll probably stick with Matty G., Matthew R. & Justin M. for now. read more

First, the positive: every now and then, I've had a wonderful class here. I took a Friday class with a guy named Austin that was extraordinary. However, this place is not worth the cost. The facility is sub par. The men's bathroom is dirty and gross. The lockers often don't work. Additionally, the front desk is extremely rude. I'm not sure how many times I've been here when someone at the front desk has been a complete jerk to me. I'm not sure if this is a Barry's thing but customer service is completely a foreign concept here. Take your money and go to another studio. read more

Too small. Locker room is insanely packed. New Barry's customer and didn't realize they steal your spot if you don't check in fast enough. No messaging or communication when you come in to check in first and no messaging from staff that this is policy.....until you miss it of course and they make you feel like an absolute moron for not reading the fine print. How dare you not know that we are going to take your spot and collect your money for the class. How dare you not read the end of our reservation email. What a new experience. I will give them kudos for allowing me to refund my package. What ever happened to giving the customer the benefit of a doubt. I felt like I was left out of the cult and treated accordingly. read more

I had a great workout but the front staff wasn't really friendly and no such thing as getting their early to be shown the gym or studio I had to ask where things were and what would be happening in class since it was my first time. Barry's NoHo location showed me everything and front staff was friendly and the trainer walked me through the class which I really appreciated. Going to a gym in general is scary enough and if there is an intimidating staff it's just off putting! read more
