Dr. McIver is THE BEST! Hands down, best dentist I've ever had. He champions conservative treatment, but will keep your smile right. I had a very challenging case of poorly kept college teeth, bad initial work from another dentist/dental surgeon, and he picked up the pieces and got my smile stable. He was in it for the long game, worried about keeping my original structures intact as much as possible, but taking care of the repair work as necessary. He even saw me on a couple emergency occasions to repair prior fillings that had fallen out. I've been coming to see him for years, moved further away from his office, and chanced a cleaning visit at a dentist closer to my new home in the north Peoria area, during COVID times. NEVER again. That new dentist suggested a whole plan of unnecessary work to rack up expenses. I freaked out and went back to Dr. McIver, he went over what the other dentist spoke about and discussed what he would do if needed. We monitored it and it ended up being unnecessary after all. I'm one year out from the other visit, no additional work, regular cleanings and good self care w/Dr McIver's team and it's heaven. Yes, dental work is not cheap, but Dr. McIver is a great clinician. My husband and I went to Arrowhead Dental Group and Orthodontics for a routine checkup and cleaning as new patients. My husband received a cleaning that lasted approximately 5 minutes. I was told I could not receive my routine cleaning because I needed a deep cleaning and that insurance would not cover a routine cleaning. We were then presented with treatment estimates. The paperwork listed a highly inflated UCF (usual/customary fee), an "estimated fee" at about 1/3 of the UCF, and showed primary coverage at only 12%, leaving us with a patient balance of over 87%. Arrowhead Dental Group are an in-network provider for our plan. We were also told our Aetna Dental DMO plan "is the worst plan." Our plan documents clearly state 60% coverage for major services. My husband's estimate to replace 2 crowns (both are almost 40 years old) was $2,708 estimated fee with a patient responsibility of $2,372. We contacted Aetna directly to verify costs. Aetna confirmed what our costs should be. We then went to another Aetna DMO in-network dentist for a second opinion. That office will do BOTH crowns for a total of $772, which is exactly what Aetna said the contracted fee should be. Arrowhead's estimate was $2,372 vs. the correct contracted total of $772. As a dental office, they should know how to check and bill DMO plan coverage correctly. Presenting an estimate that is 3x the contracted rate and showing only 12% coverage on an in-network DMO plan is misleading and unacceptable. We will not be returning. read more

Polite staff, poor service. Staff was inviting and polite. But I had to wait a while for a price overview and when I received it they said they couldn't do the cleaning bc they didn't have time. This place has gone down hill. we have been coming here for the last two months now for my husband's work injury and they're the most uncooperative dentist office I've ever seen in my life. if you have anything work related, Workmen's Comp. do not come here like I am stressing. Do not waste your time coming here. They are just extremely rude the girls on the front office they claim it's because they're so short staffed but that's not my problem that's not anybody's problem. The staff has in the front girls know nothing about what HIPAA is. They literally need to be educated or something on it because they don't know what it is. Our case worker has called numerous times requesting x-rays medical bills everything to finish up my husband's claim so that we can go to a different dentist office. I just don't understand how it could take somebody so long to just click click send it over to insurance company like we've been asking you for two months now and they just can't do it.and apparently they're claiming they have a full 30 days to send everything over to the insurance claim but guess what it's been longer than 30 days it just honestly seems like they care more about money going into their pocket than the actual patient and getting the care and treatment that they need. Have been going here for 10 years. The past 2 years the service has been terrible. They canceled my cleaning appointments twice because of no staff. Went in yesterday for the cleaning, had my X-rays and then waited 20 minutes to see Dr. I have had no problems with my teeth, no bleeding or sore gums and my X-rays showed no problems. Then before doing the cleaning staff came in an notified me that my portion ( I have Insurance) of the bill for the day would be$196.00. When I said I have never had to pay a penny and they said because this was for a DEEP Cleaning. When I said I did not want that just a regular cleaning I was told they could not do that and refused to do any cleaning. They were going to bill my insurance company and extra $1,959.00 for the "DEEP CLEANING" So Watch Out is all I can say. read more

Do not go to this place! I repeat do not go to this place . They have horrible customer service. I have my 6 months appointment scheduled after my cleaning. And I know for sure the only day I could schedule is on Wednesday. I scheduled it for a Wednesday. They have changed it to a different day for a Tuesday because they had told me Wednesdays are their busier day. Okay long story short. One week before my appointment that lady name (Shelcy) called me to confirm my appointment I missed the call and I called her back. And I said I missed a call she goes yes I was calling to confirm your appointment. I said yes I will be there. Today I left my job 2 hours in advance to get there they have the nerve to tell me my appointment was canceled because I said it was a work conflict. Never never said that to the woman. BEWARE OF CROWN COVERAGE PROMISES - My first concern was I paid for the "in office crown". They promised the strongest material out there! Larry McIver DDS told me the crown was supposed to be a white crown, it looked quite grey and obvious. When I mentioned my concern he shrugged it off and said it was the "glue" under the crown. He took a concerning amount of time on the crown and I could tell he was frustrated. the office guarantees the crown if you come in every 6 months for cleaning. Well I am at 4.5 Years and they wanted to charge for practically the whole thing, they offered me $100 for the crown for the amount of time I had the crown! Also some deal I could spend $30 dollars and they would take another S100 off! what a deal for something supposedly covered by the office! I will say they did tell me I needed to come in every 6 months which was great until COVID hit I had done. I told the office staff that, she said they were open for emergencies.... Well ma'am 6 month cleanings are NOT emergent. perhaps they are and I am naïve. Maybe I should have subjected myself risking someone getting in my mouth during COVID. I can be accountable and admit I was not following up every 6 months. Save yourself the hassle and broken promises and find another DDS. This office is a SCAM with their junk crown. They don't have availability for months when scheduling, and was disappointed with the service we received or lack of service. I've been a patient here for 2 years. Unfortunately, their front office staff services have severely declined. They do not honor booked appointments. They have been overcharging for services for a while now. Natalie (the office Mgr.) will change your appointment and then have office staff confront and try to confuse you about calling, leaving messages, etc. When confronted with proof that you have honored your appointment they will say "We are not going to argue so leave the premises or we will call the police". I suppose it makes them feel powerful?I requested a referral since I decided i had gone through enough unpleasant experiences of this sort for far to long and again was denied . This place is ridiculous. Waited over half an hour AFTER my appointment time and still no one called me back. When I checked in, they said, "They'll call you back soon!" However, everyone else in the waiting room got called back before me- even if they came in after me and had later appointment times. This isn't the first bad experience I've had with them. I've gone to this dentist for 10 years and these last several years it's just gone down hill... no etiquette behind the desk. No sense of urgency. The only people who are worth noting is Dr. Nix and Brittany Bottoms. They are both exceptional people and have such kind caring hearts. If you can get beyond the front desk then you may actually see either a Dentist or Hygienist. This is my first venture to this Group. GPS/Google Maps gets you lost. Cal the office on the phone and they play 20 questions instead of saying we are right next to Target. Never heard that until I was circling and close to 10 minutes late for a 10AM appointment, which I found out was 9:45 to fill out more extensive forms that I already completed via a cryptic website that ALL Dentists, according to the reception area, use. I have no choice. I'm handed a tablet, we all love tablets... the receptionist volunteers to fill in a password for me to an account I have no idea what it is... another discussion about passwords. She says it will make it easier for me! There I am with the tablet sitting and going to page after page after page with all the MEDICAL questions that HIPAA warns you not to share; their private. Five minutes later, almost done you come to a last page that wants you sign some sort of agreement... what is the agreement? Or, you can select "Learn Later". Huh? I hand back the tablet... I should change the blood pressure to high... too late. I sit mumbling while I check my phone. Whoops, the receptionist has excellent hearing and warns me that talk like that is not allowed since other customers may hear also. My final words to her are " If you stop talking so will I!" She continues. I exit. Phew! Good luck getting past this entrance to a Dentist, etc. You'll do well if you are sheep. read more

I would like to update this review: Cienna the office manager got in touch with me regarding the issues that I listed below. She worked with me and my insurance company to correct the errors in what was billed to my Insurance company. Once she understood the insurances contracted prices, she jumped through hoops to get me a refund and send a check back to my insurance company for an over billing error. She did everything in her power to make this right and she did so in a timely manner. She was very easy to work with and went above and beyond to make these issues right. In moving forward I hope the office is able to understand and learn form everything that happened. It was not a pleasant circumstance at all but Cienna was truly a trooper and bent over backwards to make this right. I will keep the comment below so that you understand what happened that brought all this to fruition. Arrowhead Dental has gotten a lot of 4/5 star reviews and I think that this was just an unfortunate incident. Patient's should always be aware of charges and be knowledgeable of their insurance coverage. Don't always assume that office staff knows all and cannot learn new things. I do believe that Arrowhead Dental will stand behind their patients and and strives to be the best dental office in the valley. ***The office staff is just awful. They do not explain things and just assume you are going to pay what they charge you. They want 100% of their money up front before services are rendered and they claim that when you don't have a crown made in-office that there is an up charge that they don't even tell you about and that is not even billed to your insurance. Just a flat fee of whatever they think is fair. They definitely overcharge for services and like to play the game of quick talk around you so that they try to confuse you on your benefits. Read the other reviews about the same issue. Just because they have nice dentists doesn't mean you should go there. They are crooked and get what they can out of your insurance company and out of you. Once they have your money they do not care what your insurance says and they will refuse you your credit that is due to you. Don't go...find another place. So many Drs. and Dentists to choose from. Half of the staff is great and the other half are terrible, and it's luck of the draw. They moved to an updated system and my dental insurance didn't transfer correctly, so I got a fun lecture about not having dental insurance (because the front desk person called and gave them the wrong info, so my insurance said nope) and needed to reschedule my appointment. I came in for the reschedule, and the same person attempted to lecture me again, while another person said "you're all set!" after updating the incorrect info. I never seem to see the same dentist or hygienist, which is very odd based on previous experiences. I did have a dentist put on a partial inlay which changed the way my night guard fit. In the next appointment I brought in the guard to get it refitted, and while this was happening, the woman who did my cleaning stood behind the chair saying I shouldn't come in for at least two weeks for another fix of the guard shape because I couldn't know if it fit right without wearing it for that long. I'll know after one night of wearing it, and thanks for yet another lecture. Then the inlay fell off a few months later - another appointment to get it reset. Exhausting. I'm finding a new dental office. read more

We've been using Arrowhead Dental Group (DR McIver) since about 2014 and have never been disappointed. From the front desk to the team that work on your teeth their knowledge of their respective job function and attitude is second to none! Besides the normal scheduled routine or repair visits I've had two emergency drop in visits. I would call in stating a crown (very old one) came off and they would get me in, in between scheduled patients. Once in the office the attitude of everyone is off the chart in a very positive manner! From the front desk to Maria (one DR McIver's dental assistants) and DR McIver made me feel not as a last minute issue by rushing me or making me feel uncomfortable but insured I was comfortable and a priority. They apologized numerous times for making me wait (got a new crown the same visit) and I replied all is good as I'm the one who cut in the proverbial line and messing up their schedule. If you're looking for a new dentist, give this team a chance to prove themselves as we highly recommend them! read more

The invisalign treatment they offer is just cosmetic (only front teeth), so I ended up canceling my contract and when I was calling to ask about my money, they kept telling me to wait 8 weeks. RUN FROM THIS PLACE!!! Don't walk...RUN!!!!!! AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!! They lied to me about needing a "deep cleaning" and charged me $300.00. The reason I know they lied is because it took them NO LONGER to clean my teeth than any other teeth cleaning session I have ever had in my several decades of going to the dentist!! When I returned (like a fool), they asked me to PAY $300 UP FRONT for a deep cleaning??? Wait...don't I SEE someone first to see if this expensive procedure is necessary, or do they think once a fool, always a fool??? They said, "Once you need a deep cleaning once, you always need a deep cleaning." WTH??? I REFUSED!! I went to another dentist for my cleaning and he told me my gums and teeth were in better shape than his!! I got my teeth cleaned for $5.00!!! I will never return here again and had a TERRIBLE experience. Dentist told me I needed 2 fillings, and a root canal and crown. Hygienist told me my gums were "too inflamed" to do a normal cleaning without a special wash (which of course costed more money). I left with a simple teeth polishing (costing me around $40) and did not receive any further treatment. When I asked the dentist and front office clarifying questions about why this course of action was necessary, and to explain the cost, I was treated rudely and was not given adequate explanations. After getting a second opinion from a trusted dentist, I do not have two cavities and I have one tooth that may need a filling but does not require a root canal or filling at this point - just simply needs to be watched. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. I will never return and highly recommend anyone else seek treatment elsewhere. I am so thankful I listened to my gut and left when I did. Absolutely unbelievable. read more

This was my third visit to this dentistry. They are wonderful, friendly and give you all the options and don't force it down your throat. Each time I go, they recommend something or another and even if I turn it down, they understand. Their staff is well picked and they do a great job cleaning and letting you know what's going on with your teeth. My dentist is Dr. Mclver and my hygienist is Sarah, both of them are amazing and I'm a loyal patient to them with no complaints!!! However, my star rating is solely for the orthodontics side of this dental office. Chau was my orthodontist for my first time braces as an adult. I went in with no issues other than a slight overbite and some minor crooked teeth. I trusted Dr. Chau and invested almost $4,000 into braces with him. After 18mo in braces he decided it was time for me to get them off. I left the office that day with teeth that were still crooked. My two front teeth are bucked out further than the rest and one is pushed forward more than the other. I also have one tooth that is still tucked behind the teeth next to it. The most IMPORTANT part is because of the work at this orthodontics I now have severe Jaw pain and a intense overbite. A few days after I got my braces off I had lock jaw for 7 days. I went back to him in tears because of the pain and how scared I was and he suggested I see a specialist because my issues were outside his expertise. I paid $500 to see a specialist and After getting 2 second opinions I was told that I should have had one tooth removed prior to braces so that they can realign my bite. When I went back to Dr. Chau he offered to correct his mistakes but wanted to charge me another extra $1000 for it as well as suggesting that I get THREE teeth removed before in order for him to correct my teeth. The second opinions I got recommended only one tooth to be removed especially since I already had my wisdom teeth extracted prior to braces. Why would I trust Dr. Chau with anything after all that I've been through... and why is he recommending I have 3 whole healthy teeth removed when both of my second opinions recommended that I only needed one tooth removed to make room on the top! I've spent so much money on physical therapy for my jaw since my insurance doesn't cover it and I've taken a lot of time off of work since my job requires me to be constant talking which makes my jaw get inflamed. My quality of life has gone down because of this... I can't even sing along to my favorite songs anymore because of the jaw pain caused by braces with Dr. Chau. I just hope that this review would possibly help someone make a wise choice when choosing their orthodontist. Not every Orthodontist will have the spirit to take care of their patients like they truly care about about them. Do your research and read reviews before choosing your doctors! read more

Most incredible dental office! Outstanding overall! I was in and out within 1 hour and I had 1 onlay and a filling done. I was back to work so quickly....I appreciate that so much! Dr. McIver is truly amazing! His delivery of anesthesia was so awesome. I never felt a thing! Love that! His staff is also super professional, timely, and friendly. I was like I was hanging out with friends. I enjoyed my experience so much that I had to write a review. Oh yes.. The PRICE! Almost too good to be true. The work feels and looks awesome. I was referred here by Cave Creek Dentistry (excellent place!) to see Dr. Blethen for a root canal. She was absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend her. I just wish I could have seen her in another location. I am rating this office low because of their front desk disorganization. I first waited more than fifteen minutes on hold to speak with someone and then ended up just requesting a call back on their automated system (which they did). They asked that I arrive 15 minutes early for my root canal to fill out any necessary paperwork. I arrived 20 minutes early for my 8am appt and no one was at the front desk. I signed in on the clip board and waited. At 8am they called my name to sign me in. I asked if they needed to see my insurance information. The front desk staff acted annoyed and said "you don't have our insurance?" and I said no and then she continued to act annoyed and said this will push back my dental appt. The office got pretty busy and the front desk staff seemed overwhelmed and disorganized. The staff had to then call my insurance and it pushed back Dr. Blethen's appts. I was starting to feel bad like this was my fault on top of the anxiety I was already having about my root canal. I saw Dr. Blethen speak to the front desk staff and it seemed she was frustrated with this delay, as well. I did not go into this appt feeling relaxed at all. Once I was in the chair, everything was fine and Dr. Blethen was gentle and kind. I would definitely recommend seeing her but in another location. read more

Instead of paying big bucks for the old style crown where they drill, put on a temporary crown, bring you back in a week for the final crown, they did it with a better porcelain crown in one hour. I just had to review this place for it's excellence. It's long overdue. I was terrified to get the deep cleaning that had always been recommended by every dentist I've ever been to. They had always described it as cutting my gums apart and getting in there to the bone. Arrowhead Dental Group has innovative technologies and staff who can be thorough and efficient who are highly trained in specific areas. Not only was it faster than I had anticipated, she really got in there, gently and assured my comfort with local and topical medications. It was the most incredible feeling to have clean teeth and gums and my road to a completely healthy mouth is one of the best decisions I've ever made. The staff was wonderful! I was being treated by Sarah Bielawski, who specializes in gum disease and is laser certified. She was so gentle and made sure that I was comfortable the entire time. She truly cares about her patients. My daughter needed a cleaning before her orthodontist would change her wire again and the place I had an appointment with cancelled on me when I showed up and she was due the next day to have her wire done. I panicked and went here to Arrowhead Dental Group, they were done for the day and had no available appointments. I got a little choked up and that is when Dr. McIver walked out to the front. He asked what the issue was and the staff sympathetically told him and he didn't hesitate at all and stayed late and took her in and cleaned her teeth. He didn't seem rushed, he made us feel right at home. He was my hero for the day! No matter what dental needs you may have, the staff here makes it worth going to this location. My visit at this office went well. I was having my wisdom teeth pulled and was really nervous. The staff was nice, and the procedure went smoothly. I gave them three stars because they were supposed to contact me before my appointment. I had some questions about the procedure. My appointment was originally just for the consultation but they said they might be able to fit the procedure in as well. When I didn't hear from them I gave them a call. The man I talked to told me he was trying to figure out the dentist's schedule, and he would call me back. He never did. Other than that, they're not too bad. read more
