If you like thick, fat, juicy steaks like I do, you must check out Arroyo Chop House! It's a bit pricey, but so worth it, especially if someone else treats you. To start off, I had the beef tenderloin tartare. It was tasty, but this appetizer didn't have enough ciabatta toast for me to eat all the tartare. (Actually to start off, I had some Cabernet, but I'm here to talk about the food :) For my entree, I ordered the Cowboy Ribeye (aka bone-in-ribeye), which was exquisite! It is super fatty but so delicious and juicy. I recommend ordering this medium. The yelp picture does not do any justice for its ginormous size. I am a petite Asian girl, but I can throw it down like a man and eat my steak! I almost ate all of it, but was starting to get full after eating the sides: fresh carmelized sweet corn, sauteed mountain mushrooms, and garlic mash potatoes. The sides are good, but nothing special. You need to order them though since the steaks are all a-la-carte. The main reason why I didn't finish my steak was to save room for...dessert of course! We had not one, but two souffles: chocolate and grand marnier. I initally preferred the chocolate, but grand marnier has a nice sweet kick to it. Call me spoiled but this is not a good steakhouse. I have not only had better but either for the same amount of money or less. Atmosphere was nice, celebrity sighting (Pat O'Brien from Insider) was interesting, dessert was good and so on. But the steak itself wasn't that great. Julie ordered medium rare at it came out to be more like medium well. They sent the steak back and when it came it, it was closer to raw rather than being medium rare (I think they were worried that they might over-cook it). Anyway, it was disgusting. For the value-minded newbies to this place, Arroyos does not offer the prixe fix menu on Saturdays. I learned that the hard way. We ended up spending more than we anticipated. The food tasted great, but I was disappointed that my petite filet was not nicely trimmed. For $38, filet only, I expect filet! No grissle and fat attached to it! My hubby and I shared the grilled asparagus and garlic mash sides, a forgettable salad (?) and scallop appetizer. The sides and appetizer were great and filling, but the salad was not worth it - was like wasting calories eating it. The ambiance was just OK. I would have preferred a place with a view for the money we spent. It got pretty noisy towards the end of our dinner and when the pianist started playing some tunes, it was hard hearing the music even though we were situated just one table over. 1st visit : Amazing NY strip. BBQ shrimp and crusty sourdough bread went perfectly together. Service was excellent (Cary). Sides (mushrooms and grilled asparagus) were average. 2nd visit : Ribeye was way too fatty. Didn't have that wonderful sear from the 1st visit. BBQ shrimp and sourdough went well together once but this time around the bread tasted...like wood. Mushroom side was better this time. Chef was not as heavy handed with the sherry. Coffee was $4 (what!). Service was friendly (Tom). 3rd visit : NY strip was a little too fatty, considerably smaller and didn't have a good sear. Scallops were cooked well but I'm not a fan of sweet orange-y sauces with seafood. Skipped the bread and went for mash tatos for the starch. Garlic taters were really good and went well with the sauces. Caramelized corn was neither caramelized nor memorable. It looked like canned corn dumped in a frying pan with butter. This cost around $10. Canned corn. Service was excellent again thanks to Cary. When the steak is made right, it's the best steak i've ever eaten. Unfortunately the food is inconsistent and the sides are uninspiring. But one thing you can count on is great service...and people watching. The people who go on dates here are hilarious to watch. I came here last night for dinner because we heard some great reviews. We were greeted immediately! It was fairly empty, I'm guessing because of Memorial Day. The cocktails were excellent when we received them. Our server Brett never came by to ask for refills. Which really sucks because one we were really willing to spend more money and 2. A loss of revenue for their restaurant. SERVICE: the service here is sooooo slow I cannot express to you how non existent Brett was. It was getting extremely frustrating for our whole group. We had to call over 2 different people just to get refills and new silverware. It def was not steakhouse worthy. The food was exceptional the reason for the two instead of one star. The atmosphere is very nice and inviting, but the staff is not so friendly. Our servers are always great, but the workers up front are not so nice. While we were waiting for our table, we decided to grab some drinks at the bar. We were standing around with our drinks since our table was not ready yet. A lady with bright red lipstick from the front walked over to us and TOLD (with attitude), not asked, us to move out the way because we were blocking the walk way. We were paying customers and if we had a choice, we would rather be sitting at our table. I mean, their food is ok, but for the price? Totally not worth it. I have been to many other places with food just as good or better for a cheaper price and much better service. Also, if you are going for a birthday, my recommendation is not to bring a cake. Because they charge you to cut the cake! And it's not cheap either. They charge per person. I personally think that is ridiculous because it's really not that hard to cut a cake. Hubby and I came to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary, and we had an amazing experience! Our waiter and the rest of the wait staff were very attentive. They made sure our glasses were topped off with our beverage, and made sure we were enjoying our meal. They start you off with fresh, warm sourdough bread, we got half garlic for an extra 5$ so yummy! We ordered the porterhouse (medium)for two. It was a very, very generous portion enough for almost 4 people. It was DELICIOUS! It had great flavor, was juicy, and it melts in your mouth. We also ordered a side of lobster mashed potatoes, which were very creamy and had the perfect amount of lobster. The asparagus was cooked to perfection! For desert, we chose the grand marnier souffle. So. Good. Enough for 2 people. We definitely will be back, and recommend this place if your craving great service and great food! read more

After my first visit back in October, there was no doubt where I wanted to dine for dinner on New Year's Eve 2017. I was tempted to try another of Arroyo's barrel aged cocktails, but I couldn't bring myself to order anything but their Old Fashioned. The flavors brought out by this aging process are very pronounced, even vibrant (for lack of a better word, if you can use vibrant to describe a "taste" instead of an "image"). My wife and I shared the 2 1/2 lb. Porterhouse, which was prepared to perfection. I have only cried tears twice in my lifetime while partaking in a fabulous meal, and this was one of them. I honestly believed that I did not deserve such perfection, and paused a moment to contemplate the possibility of donating this meal to someone who did deserve it, but being the very selfish person that I am, I decided that my best interests were paramount. After all, it was New Years Eve. Why try to turn over a new leaf with only hours left in the year 2017? Not only was the steak perfect, but our sides were as delicious as well. I have been going to the Chop House for so many years I can't remember. Tonight, after an awesome dinner costing close to $300 for two with no wine I was so surprised to have the parking lot attendant tell me that he will need $5.00 for parking. What? Never before was there a charge for parking...you just tip the guy. They don't offer self park, so you are forced to pay the $5. Now, you might think it cheap for me to complain about the charge after spending so much for dinner. Well, how cheap is it for the Chop House to charge for parking? There are just a few 5 star steak houses in the Pasadena area and none charge for parking...except the Chop House. Best steak in LA! Even my dad gives it the seal of approval, and he never likes any non-asian restaurants. Arroyo chop house does the perfect medium rare, and their steaks are flavorful without having to be soaked in BUTTER. I've been to Peter Luger and Maestros, and while their steaks are good too, they seem to rely on a plate of sizzling butter to give it flavor. Not at Arroyo Chop House! They also make a mean souffle, french style. There are so little places that serve proper souffle nowadays (Sadness). This is now a must whenever dineLA roll around. You can get the 6oz petite filet (regularly $36) plus appetizer of THREE oysters and a dessert all for $44. Pretty good deal IMO. Good service and good food make you want to come back for more. My finance just loves this place, and he is the steak critique more than I am. Now for me to actually agree with him, want to give it 5 stars, and return must mean something. It's popular for locals though, so be sure to get a reservation. What's great about this place is you can start off with a cocktail, get an appetizer whether it's the casear salad/spinach salad/etc, have some wonderful red or white wine to accompany your meal, and then top everything off with a souffle or something else on the dessert menu. Yummy! You'll be very happy. Also people who like to have their meat rare, medium/rare, etc, they know how to do it and if you don't feel it's come just the way you like, just ask them for another one. For people who don't want too much there's the petite filet, or for the meat lover there's the Cowboy something or other. Again my fiance loves that. So much meat! Listen carefully also for their specials. They often have a surf and turf who like to mix it up with a petite filet and Alaskan King Crab legs. I also recommend their pork tenderloin if they have it because it was so incredible the last time I went. Don't get me wrong, the filet mignon is good, but I was here for the prime rib, and guess what, prime rib was sold out. No problem, we only had to wait for 40 minutes to get seated with a reservation(fine, party of 10, so what?). Our reservation was at 8:30PM, our food didn't come until 10:00PM, you do the math, we almost had to let the server know that instead of medium rare or medium, we rather have it raw just so we can eat. Asians do enjoy arriving fashionably late, but we don't enjoy waiting for food, especially when we are extremely hungry. I also tried toe cowboy ribeye and the porterhouse that my friends ordered, not bad, but again they don't stand out. Of course we never had the time to actually ENJOY the food as we were STARVING to death. Unless you kill the cows on the spot, it really shouldn't take that long for a medium rare to be served, waiting 45 minutes for them is just ridiculous. But again maybe I am missing something, this is a place where they charge you for everything, maybe we forgot to pay the fee to expedite the orders, or do we need to valet the meat too? read more

Been looking for an excuse to try this place since it is walking distance from the house and I had heard really good things. When the wife landed a new job, also within walking distance of the house, we decided that this would be the place. I started with an Oban 14 year and wife ordered some fu-fu drink that required a special tequila. Waitress came back and said they were out of that special tequila but could substitute some other tequila but suggested against it. I appreciated the suggestion so wife ordered fu-fu drink No. 2. Wife started with shrimp cocktail that was scampi size and fresh, firm and tasty I opened with the asparagus salad. Both the aged NY strip and and lamb chops were perfect. The steak was Fred Flintstone size and was melt in your mouth good. This restaurant is one of five owned by the same group and all are in Pasadena. I wish they had some type of "frequent flyer card". I've heard so many great things about Arroyo Chop House and finally tried it this weekend. First off, the location is a little hidden but they have their own parking lot + complimentary valet which is a plus. The restaurant is relatively roomy, but I made reservations just in case. I was here on a Saturday at 6:30pm and I would say the restaurant is at 75-85% capacity. The servers here were very kind and gave great customer service. I started off with sour dough bread (on the house) or if you want you can get half sour dough, half garlic bread for $5 or just garlic bread for around $8. There are a lot of selections when it comes to the cuts of the cow I believe they're the only restaurant in the area that carries all of the cuts? Anyhow, I ordered the scallop wrapped in pancetta as an appetizer and it was REALLY good. It came with around four pieces and I thought it was a little much for two people considering we had the steak coming later. It's really tasty and smelled great, but for people that don't like their dishes too salty I'd say it was a bit on the saltier side. I was also offered a special by the waitress which was the surf and turf -- lobster tail and petit filet mignon. I wasn't aware of the price until after getting the check so be mindful of asking what they price was BEFORE you order. I ended up paying $85 for that dish, which I would say is on the pricier side but it was really delicious. The petit filet mignon is probably the size of a small fist, but it was so juicy and delicious. My boyfriend also ordered the rib eye with a side of garlic mashed potato which was also super good. The bill ended up being around $200 with tip and tax -- which is definitely not an every weekend type of dinner for me BUT it was really worth it and if I had a special occasion I'd come back here again. read more

We came upon Arroyo Chop House while looking for the restaurant next door last Saturday. The place was crowded and didn't think I would be able to get a table but surprisingly, we succeeded. To start, ordered their specialty Caesar salad which is prepared at your table. The salad was really fresh and delicious but I don't think it is worth $22 honestly as I rather have the same salad made in the kitchen for $12 or $14. For our main meal we ordered the Porterhouse for 2 and a lobster mash to share. We really enjoyed the steak as it was cooked just right. As for the lobster mash, we thought this would be similar to the one at Mastro's in Beverly Hills but unfortunately we were dead wrong. Definitely would not recommend this side dish if you ever had Mastros' as it will be a real disappointment, instead go for something else. As for the service, it was OK. The buss boys were on top of their game, always clearing dirty plates and refilling our waters. I would of liked to see our waitress a couple of minutes after we got our meal, but this was not the case. It took her about 10 minutes to come around to see how we were doing. Dinner for two with two glasses of $14 pinot noir set us back about $190 including tip so definitely not a cheap date. The reason why I cannot give this place 5 stars is because it is not comparable to Mastro's which I think is the king of steaks and service. read more

friend has been recommending this place forevers so finally on my bday i decided to go there. i had quite a bad experience but we can blame that on the white rude waiter. i can't remember his name now but i'm guessing he must be gay.i went with my 2 other gfs and it's not like we were dressed down or anything, but he did not treat us w/ respect. He must have thought because we were chinese we wouldn't tip well or something. he never offered the house bread to us. we had to ask a diff waiter to bring it to us. after i ordered my soda, he didn't ask the others if they wanted anything and we had to shout at him to get him back to the table to order drinks. bad already. food that night was pretty bad as well. the scallops and crab legs were both overcooked. nothing there really caught my eye and would probably never go back again. read more

It's Valentine's day! What better way to celebrate with meat in your face. I mean on your plate. (That came out wrong). The dim light setting is a great place for the perfect date. The host/service was awesome! The rib eye was so-so. The foie gras was a plus for $15 with its melty texture on the ribeye. The ribeye itself was just too chewy. The "aged" flavor, as claimed, wasn't there. The waygu however was melty, which how a waygu should taste like. But it wasn't something different or memorable. The old fashion is also claimed as "aged 40 days,' but seriously, nothing spectacular. Come for the soufflé. You won't be dissapointed in that! read more

When you walk in, you can feel the warm community and friendliness of the staff. They seem genuinely happy to be there and are so amiable! If you have a chance to do so, I would highly recommend attending a wine dinner with David Ruivo and team. Aside from being a GM, David is also a talented chef and his pairings for the Duckhorn wine dinner last week were perfection. Delicious! The atmosphere is also genuinely fun and allows for interactions with other guests if that's something you want to do. Guests and staff alike were so friendly, it really was an all around great time. My wife had a shrimp salad which was just ok plus scallops wrapped with prusciutto--she loved those.. I had a $17 caesar salad which was surprisingly pedestrian. A lot of dark green tops and just a few hearts--missing one of the keys to this salad...crispyness. The dressing was soso and I had to ask for anchovies (for a caesar in a high class joint!). We asked for fries well done and had to send them back for another dunk. We ordered a chocolate souffle ahead with dinner and it took soo long after dinner we almost cancelled the order. The place was quite crowded and we got seated within our reservation time period (because we came early) . We enjoyed our food but not really the whole dining experience because our waiter either did not want to work, hated his job, or does not like Asians. Why? When we got seated it took him about...15-20 mins to give us menus. When he did give us menus he just put it on the table said he was serving us tonight and walked away. I didn't EVEN KNOW HIS NAME?! He came back about 15 mins later to ask if we wanted anything to drink and what bread we wanted ( He didn't explain that there were extra cost for garlic bread...luckily i read reviews and ordered accordingly).. we got water because we dont fancy anything crazy. He didn't ask if we had questions about the menu or even if we wanted to start off with appetizers and walked away. NOT EVEN THE SPECIALS IF ANY OF THE NIGHT?! The other servers quickly gave us water and sourdough bread. We had to ask for our waiter from the other servers and he came and we ordered. When we asked him about any soup of the day he said in a tone where it was like "are you dumb" -"we only have lobster bisque and french onion and they're on the menu" . SORRY for just asking a very simple question because MOST restaurants offer a soup of the day which varies. When the food came is when we had our GREAT TIME. the food was undeniably delicious. I had the filet mignon and he had the cowboy rib eye. Both were SOOOOO delicious. However, I must admit by BFs cowboy rib eye was..really the five stars mark. it was juicy and delicious. I also once spilled my glass of water and the other servers came quickly, helped me wipe everything,and was REALLY nice about it .gave me a new glass and everything...I saw him looking at us but didn't take that 5 steps to see if everything was okay. I'm sorry but I also waited tables before and no matter how busy (which it wasn't since a lot of people left already and he was just standing there) I would go ask even if i saw everything to see if my guests were okay or if they needed anything else. That was when I knew something was wrong with our waiter. From beginning to end. I was nice enough to just knock off one star because the food was just THAT GOOD. I've been to many other restaurants with similar atmospheres, crowded or not, a little more on the classier side, and this was by far the worse waiter I've had. We had a pleasant if unremarkable dinner on a saturday evening.The buratta and heirloom salad was nicely done and the addition of anchovies brought interest to this ubiquitous dish. Upscale chophouse dressed in traditional steakhouse fashion --- with a classy and relaxed atmosphere to it. I especially enjoyed the pianist fingering away at the baby grand along to the chatter of clatter of silverware and droning table conversations. I had the porterhouse steak and it was FAN TAS TIC. It was easily one of the best steaks I've ever tasted. I highly recommend this for ANYBODY on the prowl for the perfect steak in the greater Los Angeles area...Arroyo Chophouse is a serious contender. read more

It was nice and tender, a bit overcooked in my opinion, but then again, I liked it that way. On the contrary, I get my steaks rare now.
