The ambiance here was amazing! The restaurant had a clean and nice modern interior with a great view outside. The ribeye prime (from Iowa) was juicy with a nice charred flavour. The meat was also very flavourful and tender. However, the steak was a bit too cold compared to other steakhouses. The warm and fluffy bread that came on the side was great though. The servers were also very friendly and gave us a complimentary cake slice for our birthday dinner. We tried New York prime, ribeye prime, ribeye wagyu. All very delicious. We also tried many of the side dishes, duck fat fries, Mac and cheese, with lobster and truffle, baked potatoe, Brussels sprouts, complimented our entrees. The appetizers were also delicious, octopus, hamachi, mushroom soup, gnocchi. But my favorite was the special surprise for my cousin's bday. His fiance was overseas for his birthday and made special arrangements to have a full cake delivered with a special QR code to display a video off his closest friends and relatives to wish him a happy birthday. I decided to treat myself to a fancy, expensive dinner at The Royce. I did the $250 5 course meal option, and when I arrived, decided to splurge further and spend the extra $100 on the wine pairing with my meal. When in Rome, and all that. If you were to ask me if I would do it again, I would say yes, but with another person there with me. Since I was alone, I ate rather quickly, so there wasn't as much time between my courses as there would be with someone else, so I felt like I was rushing myself. The first course was a caviar cone and champagne, which were delightful. The sourdough bread and salted butter were also amazing. Next course was beet noodles, which I was impressed with because I typically hate beets. Course 3 was a seafood dish that was cooked well, I'm not often the biggest fan of squid, but I liked this one. The chef came out to speak to me as my steak arrived, and it was nice to meet him. The steak was beautiful, from Colorado, and cooked well. I'd definitely get another from here in a heartbeat. Finally I had the tiramisu with some port for dessert and it was almost like a Dubai chocolate consistency inside it. The food is mediocre but edible. I expect to pay high prices here but the food is not worth it. The service was efficient, the people were nice. The reason why I give one star is because they threw away more than half of each left over plate I had. I ate about 25% of each plate I ate and when I got home and saw the left overs they threw away a majority portion. The only reason I can think of as to why someone would do this is just to be a jerk. I was skeptical of the poor reviews, and I truly wish I had taken notice. We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday, and unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. We were seated promptly, and the initial service staff were excellent. The assistant who first took our water order was friendly and attentive, and the person who brought us bread and later refilled our glasses was also great. Sadly, that's where the positives ended. Food: The lobster bisque was served room temperature. It had some flavor but was watery and lacked true lobster richness. The Caesar salad was overly acidic, and it included a whole anchovy. While we understand that some high-end restaurants include whole anchovies as a deliberate, upscale touch, this one felt more like an afterthought than a refined garnish. It didn't balance well with the dish and came off as jarring. Ramsey's still holds the title for best Caesar in our book. The prime New York steaks were cooked correctly, the loaded potatoes were solid, and the Asian-style green beans were the highlight of the meal--flavorful and perfectly prepared. Service: Our server, Sullivan, was unprofessional and inattentive. After taking our drink orders, he made a passive-aggressive remark about my pink rosé cocktail--completely uncalled for, especially during a celebratory dinner. When I asked about tequila options, he said they were listed on the back of the menu (they weren't), then said he'd bring a tequila list. He never returned with one. After 20+ minutes and getting our bread, I had to bring it up again myself. After appetizers, we waited another 30-40 minutes for our entrées. We finished our food in about 20 minutes and sat for another 20 without a single check-in or attempt to clear the table. At that point, we had been there for 1 hour and 45 minutes. We had wanted dessert and coffee, but no one followed up. I had to flag down the original assistant--the only one who provided consistent, quality service--to get our table cleared and request the check. I asked to speak with a manager for the first time in my life. The manager was polite and took the drinks off our bill without being asked, but honestly, I wasn't looking for a discount--I just wanted a great evening for my wife. For the price, I expected a polished, high-end experience. And that includes not just the food, but the atmosphere, attention to detail, and professional service. Unfortunately, this place missed the mark on all of those. I won't be returning. We were in town on business and met up with a friend here. I didn't realize it was in the Langham hotel, and yes, I should've known better, but this place is quite dressy. Even with nice jeans, a button-down shirt, and nice sneakers, I felt pretty underdressed. While waiting for our friend, we decided to start with a couple of negronis. We weren't asked about type of gin we wanted but it didn't taste like anything top shelf - my guess is Bombay Sapphire or Tanqueray and the sweet vermouth tasted like something lower end, like Martini Rosso. Again, not a super luxurious negroni, but it did the job. When we got the check at the end, though, we were surprised by the $25 price tag(!), though. Once our friend arrived, we ordered a couple of starters to share and a prime bone-in ribeye to share while our friend opted for the NY strip. We also ordered a couple of sides to share. The service here is great, but it did feel a little slow that night. I'm not sure if they were understaffed - it was the day before New Years Eve, so maybe a bunch of people were off. However, when we asked for things, they came promptly - we just wish we saw the server a little more often, especially to top off water and things like that. We started with a large Caesar salad to share and our friend also got the lobster bisque. Both were really good and I really enjoyed the Caesar salad a lot, though it's a VERY large portion. If you ate that before your steak, you'd likely not be able to enjoy your steak very much. The steaks came out and the temps were absolutely perfect, which is to be expected for a steakhouse. The bone-in ribeye is such a huge cut that the two of us that shared it could barely finish it. In fact, if we were driving home afterwards, we would've taken a couple pieces home to eat in the morning with some eggs, but since we were staying in a hotel, we just slowly finished it as we had nowhere to store it or reheat it later. The steaks were tender and juicy, and had been trimmed perfectly to leave just the right amount of fat around the cut without it being overly chewy and fatty. None of us really got any wood-fired flavor in our steak, which was a bit of a disappointment given the name. To go with the steaks, we had the roasted wild mushrooms and duck fat fries. The mushrooms were killer - if you like mushrooms, you should absolutely get this as a side. The fries were good - not quite as crisp as we would've liked, but nice a creamy inside and their aioli was good as well. Overall, the meal was great. All in, the meal was nearly $800 though, including the $25 negronis (x 2), a bottle of still water ($20 - lol), a bottle of wine, and our food. Quite pricey, even by Southern California standards. Given the price, it would only be appropriate for us for celebrations, but in terms of steakhouses, there are many options in the area that I'm sure are a bit more affordable than The Royce. read more

For comparison in the last month I've had steaks out Arroyo Chop House, Ocean Prime, and Nik + Stef's. All would rank among my all time favorites of perfectly cooked, delectable, juicy steaks. We came here Friday night for a friend's birthday celebration. The restaurant is in the beautiful Langham hotel. If you have never ben to Langham, I suggest to come 20mins prior to your reservation. So you can walk around the hotel and the extensive lavish outdoor garden. We had a private dinning/wine room ($2,000 minimum) which is located right at the entrance. It was an absolutely a pleasant experience. I don't think Royce should be on 4 $$$$ mark because the price is more than reasonable compared with lots of other restaurants with similar standard in BH and West Hollywood. Good highlights-40 oz wagyu tomahawk steak is a must have if you have a group of 4 or more! It was served on a large butcher block with yummy green sauce not sure what it is made of. So big and juicy. It's on the fatty side. We didn't mind. Oysters are sweet and fresh! Beef Tatar is great and easy for everyone to eat. Bone marrow is made like a tart very unique but too salty. However, I found that the customer service was not close to what you expected from a 5-star restaurant. My steak was ordered to be cooked medium and also ordered the crispy brussels sprouts. I got a well done steak with soggy brussels sprouts. It took more than 20minutes to get my new steak and baked potato. By then I was no longer hungry. We came here for Christmas Dinner since we were staying at the Langham. I don't mind splurging on special occasions for exceptional meals and service. However, our bill came out to just under $700 for two and the meal did not fit the bill. The steak (main course) was very well cooked. The other three courses were not what I would expect from a fine dining establishment. I've had better quality meals at a Texas Roadhouse. If you are wondering if you should choose the Royce to splurge, respectfully you should look elsewhere. read more
