We ordered the porterhouse for two, two NY steaks, creamed spinach, mushrooms, scalloped potatoes, and jalapeño corn soufflé. We had a soufflé for dessert. Everything was perfect. Steaks were well cooked. For the sides, I especially liked the mushrooms and scalloped potatoes. Dessert was well made and very warm. Our server was a lovely lady! They have valet parking for $7. We have been enjoying the food and ambience at Arroyo Chop House for many years. Lately however it's changed. What used to be a romantic place to enjoy a meal and have a peaceful conversation with family and friends is no longer the same. It's now super noisy. The piano is so loud that people need talk louder so others can hear you. Not the same place it was a few years ago. What happened to the classy steak house? Way too much noise now. My wife and I had dinner here on a Wednesday night. We had a reservation, and were seated quickly. This was good as they were packed. Even though we split a single 24 ounce Porterhouse steak and the caramelized corn we had leftovers. The steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked as requested. Our server (Patrick) was a pleasure and took good care of us. The only (very picky) downsides were a) valet parking was slammed and disorganized b) the place was noisy (if you like noise, call it vibrant), c) Patrick forgot to bring 2 spoons so we could split the desert (how's that for picky!). Our server, Jose, was one of the most professional and knowledgeable server I have had in a LONG time, and his attention to detail were a stand out for me. Classic and traditional steakhouse. Did not have a "snobby" feel, although most people were dressed in at least business casual dress. Valet parking only. My main takeaway: Incredible service! I worked in fine dining restaurants for over 10 years, so I have a mental check-list for a full fine dining experience, and our server, Jose, checked every box! Very impressed. As for the food, we had fresh oysters and the crab cake specials to start and they were great. One of my guest had the Surf & Turf special, and said everything was perfect. Finally tried this local steakhouse and faaaak is it delicious. Great ambience, like its own little world in there. Lovely service. Excellent food. And most importantly to me I felt good after, no stomachache and not weighed down! I started with the lobster bisque, and it was one of the best I've ever had. So light and delicate with real lobster. Often times lobster bisque is just a bowl of cream that makes you feel sad and crappy. This was light and flavorful, bright, and perfectly balanced. Not overly filling and not overly salty. I then had the Cesar salad, also perfectly balanced and delicious. Left je wanting more. The place is great, great service, the interior, lighting, ambiance. That's where everything stops. We were a group of 12 people the other day. Most of us ordered steaks. My wife got aged NY strip, I got a cowboy steak bone-in 26oz "prime". Except it wasn't prime, it was barely even a choice. For $79 you'd think they'd use a better steak, not a $7/lb one. It was very chewy, no marbling at all, big chunks of fat across and around. The temperature was cooked to my liking though. I ate just a little bit and couldn't eat the rest. I tried my wife's 30 day ages NY strip and was not good. I can make a better steak than those on a worst day. Last year we sat in the north side, this time we were in the south side. Both look good. It's really ok steakhouse. I wish it was better because I had heard so much about them from friends. The food is all as expected, flavor-wise leans on a saltier side. The setting itself is classic steak house spot with indoor and covered patio seating. We got seated in the covered patio seating, and despite having heatlamps and near the fireplace, it's still quite chilly in the later evening that it was uncomfortable and made our food cold really quickly. Service was really borderline on the difficult-annoying side of trying to get our server's attention. Found this place online as the best steakhouse in the SGV area. Made reservations for 5 on a weekday. We arrived, waited a bit and got seated. Our table was in such an awkward place in the back down an aisle of booths. We got seated next to the loudest table at the restaurant, our server had to pretty much yell out the daily special. Honestly uncalled for. The service here was mediocre, couldn't really locate our server most of the time. Had to ask someone else who was walking by for wine glasses for a bottle we brought in. We asked for lobster mashed potatoes and we ended up with regular mashed potatoes. Had to question our server about it. He informed us the soufflé takes 35 minutes to cook and we said we'll wait until mid course to order since we ordered a lot of food. Never came back to check on us, until we were almost done. Never ordered the soufflé. The dishes here to me were pretty bland. I had to request for steak sauce for my porterhouse. The scallop potatoes and lobster mashed potatoes both required more seasoning. We added salt and pepper ourselves. The only side that tasted good was the jalapeño corn soufflé. As for the cowboy ribeye, we got 3 at our table for the males in our party. They rated the steak to an Asian cafe quality of steak. The porterhouse for two were slices in big cubes instead of thin cuts to be shared. The only good thing about this place is the cute ambiance. Never been one to leave a review, however, a large RAT running up above the servicing/bar area was the LAST thing I expected to see when sitting down for my meal, and calls for some accountability. After reading plenty of great reviews for this place I was very excited to bring my family to try this restaurant. As we were ordering drinks we were absolutely appalled by the fact that at peak dinner service a rat felt comfortable enough to run above the main dining hall. I exchanged it for a filet, which took about 10 minutes. By the time I received my steak, my wife had nearly finished hers. Needless to say, the mood of the dinner was ruined. The manager apologized for the problem, but did not offer to discount the meal or even offer a complimentary dessert. It was extremely loud. There was a table that sounded like we were all in a sports bar. We couldn't even hear ourselves at our table. Arroyo became one of our favorite steak houses from the first time we visited this spot. We had the sourdough bread, porterhouse, Kansas City New York, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Sautéed Brussels Sprouts, Broccolini, Sautéed Mountain Mushrooms, Butterscotch pudding, and New York cheesecake. Everything was perfect! One of my favorite items were the Kansas City New York which is a bone in New York strip steak, you don't see it on every menu but when you do, know that you must try it because it's usually one of the best cuts, and Arroyo knows how to do it really well. I like bone-in steaks to be cooked to a medium temperature and that move has not let me down thus far. You can't really go wrong with a porterhouse either since you are effectively getting a bone-in New York and filet all in one. All the sides were great, my favorites were the broccolini and garlic mashed potatoes, i believe the waitress said that the broccolini was a special for the day so hopefully they have it when you go, but definitely try the garlic mashed too. I don't think you'd be disappointed with any of the sides so feel free to explore, there are so many. The desserts were also quite amazing, my favorite was the Butterscotch Pudding. My friend had the idea of ordering it with a side of vanilla ice cream and wow was that a great idea, it only made it better. All in all, I think you're going to be very happy with anything you order, everything was perfect. The service is amazing, no complaints whatsoever, it's exactly what you can expect at a high quality restaurant. To add to the amazing quality, every time we've been here, the manager has come to our table and asked about our satisfaction, what a good idea, this is something I think every restaurant should do if they care about their clientele. I can imagine this has a lot to do with their pristine quality on everything. The ambiance is also so good, dimly lit, subtle sound of background conversations, comfortable seating, nice crowd, great staff, it all ties in together to make a masterpiece, I can't stop singing this places praises. Side note, it feels like a great place for business related M&E situations. As for parking, it's pretty much only valet and it's not expensive, I don't think you'd be able to park in the lot otherwise. There is street parking available as well, however, i have not used that but a couple friends have and they seem to find a spot pretty easily from what i understand. Stopped by on a Thursday night; parked on the streets which was not too bad Picked up a Porterhouse and a Filet Mignon, both of which were among the juiciest, most tender stakes I've ever eaten. The Porterhouse in particular was an absolute unit and would be enough to make the average consumer full. For side, we picked up a mac and cheese order, which was smooth, creamy, and most importantly, cheesy with a bite! Not sure what the cheeses used were, but they had a bit of a bite to them! Very much welcome. To finish off, we picked up souffles, which took some time to come out, but MAN were they worth it! Ordered: Ribeye - the steak was cooked as Medium, and there was so much flavor in the steak. The plating was very simple with just some peppers. Salmon - This was made perfectly and the top was seared beautifully. It was paired with a sweet sauce on the side. I can't remember the name of it. Our sides were cream of spinach, mushrooms and asparagus. I could have done without the cream of spinach as I felt it was just lacking in flavor. The mushrooms were delish though. Grand Marnier Souffle - This is a MUST TRY dessert. I really felt like this was the icing to the cake after our meal. Make sure to order this ahead of time as it does take a while to come out. Came here for my parents birthday and was disappointed in nearly every aspect. The reservation was made and they were told it was for both of my parents birthdays. Not even an acknowledgement by any staff. All higher end restaurants give some sort of free dessert, but we had to remind them about it. Service overall was bad for a high end restaurant. We ordered a simple garden salad and the lettuce was all chopped up fine like a coleslaw. I can't speak for everyone else, but my $75 ribeye had no color on it, almost like it was done in a pan that wasn't hot enough. No cast iron, no broiler, no open flame grill. The sides of broccolini, mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes and creamed spinach were all pretty good except the scalloped potatoes. There was just soooooo much cheese. Not sure what has happened at Arroyo Chop House, but our latest visit was nothing close to the usual 5-star experience we have come to enjoy over the years. Most of the food was still on par but the steak quality has seemed to have taken a dip (also one of the medium steaks was served as well done). I wouldn't bother ordering the Cowboy. Since we were ordering a lot of food we decided to split a lobster bisque but the pour was so small even the first taste felt like scraping bottom of the bowl (if I had gotten a full portion for myself, it would have been a major disappointment). As far as service, it seem to be ok, our waiter was very tentative and helpful, but one thing could be noted...when we visit such restaurants (including Arroyo in the past) we always lean on advice to make sure we ordered a proper amount, we asked and were told one more side should be good. End of dinner we had 3 sides which were hardly touched. I would also advise them to go around taking a sit at every customer seat, there's one seat that I know of which as no light (zero!), we had to pull out a phone to read the menu (when I looked up, it seemed one of the lights off...maybe during cleaning it got pushed up). PS: One of the staple items for which we visit Arroyo was the Soufflé, it used to be the BEST in LA (as I was eating now, I kept thinking microwave, honestly I hope not! but for sure it wasn't made to order) Wish they kept the quality, because nothing came close to them for years. read more

I made reservations at Arroyo Chop House to celebrate my partner's birthday. We were greeted by charming and welcoming valet attendants who were cheerful and smiling. The entrance to the restaurant is surrounded by beautiful flowers so we stopped to take some selfies and pics of the garden. Restaurant is dark and romantic. We were greeted immediately and sat at a table across from the gorgeous bar. Our server Lauren came over right away to review the menus and specials for the evening. Lauren was AMAZING! She took such good care of us all night! Everyone who touched our table was attentive and smiling all the time. I notice these things. Nothing worse than dining and being surrounded by staff that look and act miserable. That was not the case at Arroyo. We're feeling good with all the energy being fed to us by they staff (even the manager came by to check on our table, speak with us a bit and make sure all was well)...now on to the food and drink!! Every dish and cocktail was perfect! We ordered the half and half sourdough and garlic bread, chopped salad and oysters to start. Our dinners were the filet, New York strip steak and lobster. For dessert, the dark chocolate soufflé served with whipped cream and ice cream. I had three cocktails, La Poire, Mrs. Pink, and a sambuca. Each was beautiful to look at and equally delicious! I want to add that the restaurant presented a handwritten birthday card at our table upon arrival and candle on dessert. I really appreciated this extra touch to make my birthday guy feel special. Gotta love how Pasadena keeps their restaurants opened for dining (outdoor) when every other city else has a mandatory no-dine out rule. This place has a really nice setup going on here for outdoor dining. Their covered tents can fit so many tables. I came here at night and I have to say, the lights within the tent made everything look so lovely and appealing. The fire torch stands also provided some warmth. I ordered the Porterhouse steak (2.5 pounds) which is made for 2 people, since I did come here with someone. The meat on it was cooked just the way we liked it, medium rare, it was juicy and the meat was tender. It also had just the perfect amount of fat (trim). I felt like it wasn't quite 2.5 pounds though because there were only 8 slices in total (although they were quite large pieces). For sides, we ordered the Mac n Cheese, the Lobster Mashed Potatoes and of course we had to get some veggies, so we chose the Sautéed Braised Spinach. These were some of the BEST sides I've ever had. The Mac n Cheese had a really rich cheesy taste. The lobster mashed potatoes was surprisingly rich in taste as well, normally you don't expect much from mashed potatoes... and the lobster bits complimented it well. The sautéed spinach was soft and great to eat with all those heavy meats. No one asked about a special occasion and the waiters were not very attentive and instead focused on two other tables, one which had 8 guests and the other which had 6 guests. The food itself was just ok. We had the 1/2 and 1/2 bread which was excellent (especially the garlic bread), scallops, shrimp, steak flight, NY strip and petit filet, as well as jalapeño corn and truffle Mac and cheese. The corn was easily the best thing we had, as the steaks were just ok and fairly under seasoned. The Mac and cheese had no real truffle, just truffle oil which made them taste a bit greasy. For desert we had the apple pie and 2 soufflés, though one was forgotten and came out a lot later than the other two. This is one of the best steakhouses I've been to! As soon as we were seated, we were given the freshest sourdough bread that I just loved. We had ordered shrimp and bacon wrapped scallops for appetizer followed by a Caesar salad. I am not normally a ribeye girl, but I've been trying it again and no one does it better than Arroyo chop house! It's grilled to perfection at your request and pairs so well with all their sides. Let me just start off by saying that making a reservation through yelp was so simple. Click click and done! To meet current covid requirements, this place has done well. Dining is outdoor. Dim lighting to set the mood with beautiful trees lit up with tiny lights that give you something pretty to look at. Tables are spaced out reasonably. Staff all wearing gloves, masks, and face shields. Our server was Brent and he was great! He had a wonderful attitude but I was mainly impressed he could remember all their specials including soup of the day. My boyfriend and I had never eating here before so he gave us tons of recommendations. You must start off with their garlic bread. It could have been in a meal in itself. Super soft, well seasoned with garlic and cheesiness. Their lobster bisque was pretty remarkable. Super fancy tomato tasting soup with chunks of lobster. More than enough to share! (Which we did) I got the surf and turf where my filet was perfectly cooked medium. I usually love sauces with my steaks, but this one was savory enough I did without. For our sides we got the truffle Mac n cheese which was cheesy but I think I would have preferred their regular Mac. It didn't have the same saltiness I craved with the dish. Their scallop potatoes were pretty addicting. I got the flavoring, I was lacking from the Mac. And the potatoes were perfectly cooked. Green beans were nothing special but none the less tasted good and their spinach was good. All portions of the sides were more than enough the share between the two of us with some to take home! I felt the timing of our food was perfect. Never did we feel rush or too full until the end of our meal. I just had THE WORST experience with the Pasadena Arroyo Chop House restaurant and assistant manager Karen H. Not only was my delivery order COMPLETELY missed/overlooked but Karen was apathetic and caught lying. She initially blamed the delivery person saying they didn't show up. She said she'd have the order cooked again even when there was no food packaged up and waiting. Mine was the ONLY delivery order for the evening. Karen confirmed she had my order by telling me the delivery address. How could it be missed? She had the order ticket right there! I called them 1.5 hours after the expected delivery time thinking I was giving them extra time for traffic, busy restaurant, etc. The recipients are diabetic and cannot wait for the meal to be made and have a late evening delivery. Horrible! The online ordering service is a joke! Not only did I receive an email confirmation for my order, but I also received a confirmation and reminder of the estimated time of delivery - 2 days before the delivery date.
