This was the most "okayest" steakhouse I've ever been to. There is no public parking lot and street parking is very limited. The restaurant offers valet. My husband brought me here for my birthday, we were seated as soon as we arrived. I instantly noticed the dining room was very loud. I was having difficulty hearing my husband and the waiter. We were seated near the bar but I didn't feel the bar area was very noisy, it was the dining room. Our waiter's name was Jay. Jay constantly said that there was no rush. He would thoroughly explain menu options and once I tried to ask a clarifying question or place my order, he'd quickly tell me to take my time and walk away. This started to become very frustrating since he said no rush but was not really allowing me the time to place my order. This was my first visit so I had a couple of questions. He mostly kept reminding us that the chocolate dessert had a 55 minute lead time. As a slightly picky eater, I had a difficult time finding a salad to order. I ordered the waygu filet and the Mrs. Pink drink. I was pretty annoyed when my nearly $20 drink was overflowing with ice. I took 2 sips and my drink was done. First time I came here was during DineLA week after hearing lots of positive things about this place. First off going into the parking lot, you'll see it's valet parking only which is Free but of course tipping is preferred. Walked into the restaurant for our 7:00pm reservation and we were quickly seated. I noticed that the decor was a romantic type setting with each table giving you your personal space. I prefer this than to be bunched up next to other tables. Started off with their half sourdough half garlic bread and though the bread was very hard, the taste was perfect. The garlic sourdough bread was not as salty as other places. Next came the oyster plate which they separated the oyster from its shell already. Cold, fresh and delicious. Main plate was their Filet Mignon. Definitely one of the better places to get Filet Mignon as it was really tender and tasty with your choice of 3 sauces that they offer. The dish came with your choice of 2 sides and I ended up choosing cream spinach and mash potatoes which both were very delicious. It also comes with 1 carrot already. Dessert I ended up choosing their Chocolate Souffle and Brownie. Both were amazing even though I'm not much of a dessert person. Besides the food here, the service was great. It was okay, a bit dry. Ordered petit filet mignon-tasted okay. Its the size of a girls fist fyi. Ordered kansas city n.y. steak. -tasted okay. They had steaksauces. Not bad. Also had Ahi Tuna Salad as an appetizer. The ahi tuna was good. The salad it came with tasted bitter. Ordered a chocholate souffle for dessert and it was sweet and good. Warm and fudge filled. Are you looking for a restaurant for a special occasion? Say celebrating a birthday? Graduation? Anniversary? Planning on popping the question? Well Arroyo Chop House would be an excellent choice (or if you just want to have a great dinner, you could do that here too). Well on Tuesday, September 1st, my husband and I came to celebrate our wedding anniversary. My husband made reservations the week before and were greeted with beautiful orchids at our table, along with a happy anniversary card (truly a nice touch with the flowers and card). Our server, Jose, provided us menus and asked if we wanted some garlic bread and sourdough bread (which is not free by the way) and then told us of the day's specials. After browsing through the menu, we ended up getting: Half Garlic / Half Sourdough Bread, $5 prior to tax- Again, NOT COMPLEMENTARY. Although I liked the bread (I am a bread person) and my husband was actually pretty hungry, I think we could have done without. By the way, you are not given free refills in case you are wondering. Tuna Tartare, $16 prior to tax- I really like Ahi Tuna and thought this was a great starter. But wished there more of the cracker to scoop of the fish. I also wished this dish was served cold since raw fish is used. But the flavors were great in this starter. Porterhouse 24 oz.. $56 prior to tax- This steak is definitely an incredibly large portion for 2 to share (or one to have leftovers the next day). This steak was tender and flavorful. You can't go wrong with this entree. But to elevate this dish to the next level, it is served with additional sauces on the side, that includes Bleu Cheese Smoked Bacon Cabernet Reduction, Peppercorn Sherry Cream, Béarnaise. Although each of these sauces were delicious (even on it's own too), the peppercorn was my most favorite (same as my husband's) and really just added a little something extra to the meat. Marinated Chicken Breast, $24 prior to tax- For this entree, you get a really big butterfly tender piece of chicken. I really liked the marinade that was on this chicken. Too bad this dish does not come with rice or the like. But this entree (or the porterhouse) is served with 2 small carrots and a small portion of micro greens. Sugar Snap Peas, $9 prior to tax- When I ordered this, I asked the server if it was possible to use half the amount of oil that is used to make this dish and so he told me that they can steam this. I am really glad this was steamed. It was made perfectly with that light crisp, you could really taste the natural sweet taste of the snap peas. The portion was plenty for 2-3 people. Grand Marnier Soufflé, $13 prior to tax- The grand finish to this fantastic dinner and one of their most popular desserts. This dessert is enough to feed 2 (or a smaller portion for 3) and well worth ordering, so be sure to save room (it's okay to take food home for lunch the next day). The souffle was so light and airy; had just enough of the chocolate taste. It was nice that our server served this dessert to us and mixed in whipped cream (he had asked first before so). -------------------------- (Total= $134.07 after tax, prior to tip) Our server, Jose, was good at checking up at us. There was also another employee (bus boy? Not exactly sure his job title) who was also really good at refilling our water glass and he also gave us a new cloth napkin every time we went came back from the restroom. I think the only complaint I would have to make was that there was a long wait throughout the meal, but that did make for a nice opportunity to tell my husband about my day at work and vice versa. But I did kind of wish that Jose would have come sooner to take down our order after giving us the menu. After the first time he approached us, we told him we will need some time to decide, but I think he gave a little too much time. And there was also some wait to get our appetizer and entrees. But we weren't in a hurry, but it is just something to mention in case you are planning on attending a show at the Pasadena Playhouse afterwards (which we did not but figured I would add in some additional ideas to your evening). By the way, the woman's restroom was clean upon this visit. Also liked that there was a bottle of mouth wash, with cups to rinse your mouth. My husband said that this is also in the men's restroom. Also it is quite cold in here, so you may want to bring a jacket. As for the parking, there is complementary valet (don't forget to tip). By the way, the valet lot is shared with Parkway Grill (same owner as Arroyo Chop House) and so if you accidentally pull on that side, they can still park your car (don't lose that valet ticket now). In the end, you will make an excellent choice if you choose to have dine here. My wife and I have been coming to Arroyo Chop House for several years mainly to celebrate our special occasions (Birthdays, Valentine's, etc). The food and service has always been great, and they do go above and beyond to make sure you've been serviced with everything from food, drinks and desserts. Our recent trip for my birthday felt a little lacking. We ordered our usual half/half Garlic Bread and the garlic bread was way more buttery than usual. We're talking as if someone dropped the whole bread into a tub of butter. I almost felt like dabbing the garlic bread on to the original sourdough to let out the extra butter juice. My NZ Salmon was slightly undercooked, but not by much as well as my wife's Petite Filet Mignon. Dessert was excellent as usual. The chocolate souffle was delicious and definitely can't go wrong with the apple pie. I remembered they used to have a passion fruit ice tea long ago but they don't have it anymore which we were bummed about, but nothing an Arnold Palmer couldn't fix. Though I do wish refills for it was free. The server was very attentive and made sure we received everything we ordered. Drinks were refilled when empty. Nothing to complain about there. We came here to celebrate my son's bday. They provide a cupcake and a handwritten card for the birthday guest which I think is a nice touch. It was surprisingly crowded for a weekday evening. We have been celebrating special occasions at Arroyo Chop House since we moved to Pasadena. After tonight's Valentine's Day debacle, never again. We were seated on an outside patio area where a tree rained leaves throughout the meal. Across from us was a baby whose parents blasted a video at top volume for her entertainment. When we asked the hostess to fix our seating (the restaurant was 80% empty), she came out to "ask the parents to lower the volume," but instead simply asked how they were enjoying their evening! The Arroyo Chop House has always been one of my favorite restaurants, but our Friday family dinner exceeded our expectations. During the pandemic, the in house dining experiences have been limited, however, we learned that the Arroyo was offering outdoor dining. The restaurant has created a beautiful outdoor garden setting with careful attention to all of the safety regulations and still maintaining its superior level of service, and reputation as one of Pasadena's best restaurants. We had a reservation, and requested our regular server, Thomas Acker, whom we have known for several years, and consider him a friend. We knew that it would be a great experience with Thomas; he is very professional, amicable, charming, and very courteous. Every Arroyo dining experience with Thomas has been perfect. We began with appetizers; shrimp cocktail and barbecued shrimp. Then Arroyo steakhouse salads. For our entrees, we ordered the porterhouse steaks for two, a couple of sides, and the garlic bread. I tried Arroyo Chop House for the first time as a DineLA experience as well as a place for a birthday. I was able to make a first choice time slot reservation on Open Table and received a phone call the day of to confirm the reservation. The restaurant itself was very nice. Free valet is provided for the establishment and the interior is fancy. The con that I had for the aesthetic for Arroyos is its dim lighting once you are inside; its rather romantic, but it clashes with the noise level of the restaurant. I had to slightly raise my voice so that I could be heard during the whole meal with my party of 4. It reminded me of a carnival cruise dining hall. The restaurant is rather small as well, but they offer covered outdoor seating which I am unable to describe. My table was able to try their oysters, lobster bisque, filet mignon, lobster tail, turtle semifreddo and strawberry shortcake. We all also had their win pairings for each meal. I had a birthday at my table and she received their complimentary vanilla cupcake. The food was good, but there wasn't anything special. It was not bad, but it wasn't a showstopper. I wasn't blown away with flavors. The cuts for the filet mignon that I was was extremely tender and well cooked, but I had to add more salt. The soup was tasty and the oysters were fresh, but everything was rather underwhelming. The wine pairings were the best choice that I had made for my meal, but is rather pricey.. I believe it was $40 for the three coursed to compliment. The service was good as well. The servers came to check on us to see if the courses were satisfactory. Our go to place for family birthdays. The whole family loves the Prime steaks and high quality seafood. Amazing side dishes. Everything from truffle mac cheese to perfect French green beans to onion rings (that were piping hot from the kitchen & perfectly done). The garlic bread was a huge hit with everyone. My 22 year old son and his girlfriend loved it as did I and my husband. So excellent we agreed we could come here 1 night and just order the bread! I am very picky about bread and this is exceptional. On the food, my son who was turning 18 had the filet and Australian lobster tail and he loved it. Husband and I shared the Tomahawk for 2 [or rib eye for 2 don't recall what it was called exactly]. Perfect medium rare and the bone was a present to our large dog. My 22 year old son and his GF shared the house harvest salad (arugula+) and it was superb as he's not a salad guy. I had that salad as well. My 22 year old had the burger which he loved and his GF just wanted 1/2 the salad and the sides as she doesn't eat meat. They have good vegetarian options. Husband had the lobster bisque which was excellent with chunks of lobster. Real attention to detail. I had let them know it was my son's birthday and there was a handwritten card from Arroyo Chop House to Trevor waiting on our table. They offered him a free cupcake [we did the singing] and we ordered a Grand Marnier Souffle which 4 of us shared (which was perfect since we were pretty full. Order the souffle in advance. My 22 year old loved the cocktail he had. We brought our own wine. $30 corkage fee which is very fair and reasonable. Decanting was well done on a rare Caymus cabernet. Ice bucket brought right away for 2 special & unusual Italian whites we brought. We were given glasses for white and red & wine glassware is nicely sized. We had some delays in getting our food to us due to the kitchen being slammed on a Monday night with large private party & management was very attentive and waived the corkage fee for 3 bottles of wine and was very apologetic. They even offered my son a free drink which he declined since he was driving (yea!)... What more can you want? This is what happens at high quality restaurants. I see some reviews of complaints about service. My advice as a lawyer who used to work as a server in high school & college? Let the front desk know...They can fix it then. If you're having an evening that isn't going the way you want (on food or service), do not keep quiet. This doesn't mean be a jerk but if you go up to the front desk and ask for the manager or ass't manager and say "it looks like my server is overwhelmed and we haven't had anyone stop by for 15 minutes" -- they will handle it. I had to do that recently at the very pricey Spring restaurant in DTLA...but restaurants are real life and sometimes a big group comes in and the kitchen or staff get slammed. We've all seen Hell's Kitchen or those restaurant makeover shows...So speak up nicely and if they aren't forthcoming, ask for a free drink or dessert and let them know that is a way they can show you they are sorry. I didn't have to ask at Arroyo Chop House...They went above and beyond. Everyone agreed the food was wonderful and it was a special place for my son's 18th birthday. Great go-to restaurant that the whole family enjoys and large comfortable booths or tables! You can tell these guys are serious about their steak as soon as you open the menu. A lot of restaurants call themselves "steakhouses" but you can tell by looking through their menu that they are "restaurant" that just happens to serve steak. If i'm paying 40-50 dollars for a steak a la carte I expect the steak to be USDA Prime AND aged at least 25 days. Top tip: if the menu doesn't indicate that the steak is USDA Prime or aged then it's probably not. Arroyo Chop House proudly indicate that they only use USDA Prime beef and indicate their NY steak is 40 day aged. If you are in the mood for some good meat this is your place read more

When visiting the local area, just know that Arroyo Chophouse is synonymous with Pasadena, and represents the best of the city. Here's some of what we had, along with a bunch of cocktails: Appetizers: Jumbo shrimp, tuna tartare, dozen oysters, Caesar salad Main: Tomahawk, rib eye, both medium rare Sides: Lobster mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts Dessert: Souffle Everything was really good.
