I contracted this company to resurface my backyard, level off the dirt, and put grass down. I believe the price was a little over 5 grand. They ultimately asked me if i wanted seed or sod. I went with sod. I live in the northeast of Bakersfield. Well, after about a month, the sod died, all of it. It was watered properly. Ultimately, the dirt from the sod washed away, revealing the hard clay that was there before. I have come to the conclusion after speaking with other landscapers and my own research, that the company did not ammend the soil, as it is hard as a fucking rock and i cant even get bermuda seed to grow. Before they came i had not problem growing this easy to plant seed. It's coming up on two years, just about, and my yard is patchy and uneven. 100% is not worth 5000 dollars. This guy either got lazy and did not ammend my soil or did a shit job. I called a contractor because i wanted a nice lush soft backyard. Instead, it's hard baron clay lumpy, and im 100% disappointed and out 5 grand. read more

Prior to finding Arroyo Grande Landscaping, I had so many bad experiences with landscapers (not following thru, ignoring calls, no shows, poor workmanship). When I needed some help with my landscaping & waterfalls, by a miracle of God, I found Arroyo Grande Landscaping. First impression was my initial phone & being greeted by Joses wife. She is the most pleasant, kind & helpful person...always! When she says she or Jose will call back, they do so quickly. When I am told Jose can be there, he is there on time if not the same day, the next day. When Jose came out to go over my issues & provide a quote, he actually listened to me & addressed all my concerns. His quote was detailed so I knew exactly what work was to be done and the cost. When Jose came to perform the work, he not only corrected my issues but made my landscaping & waterfalls so much better. I knew he was going to add some rock to the falls, but I was amazed at what he actually brought to enhance my landscaping. Since Jose completed the work, a few unrelated yard issues have arose (issues that had nothing to do with his workmanship, just the norm of homeownership). Having no one to turn to for assistance, I called Arroyo. True to the kind & helpful people they are, Jose was immediately here to help me. He took care of a slow outdoor leak that I had for quite some time. Three other contractors told me would cost in excess of $500 & the concrete would have to be removed. The leak seemed to be getting progressively worse so I called Arroyo Grande Landscaping. I texted a picture of the issue & Jose knew exactly what to do. He fixed it in no time without removing concrete & for less than half the cost of the other 3 contractor quotes. Jose & his wife are a God send for me. For the first time, I have a contractor that I completely trust & enjoy doing business with. I have more work for him as soon as I can save the money! I will use no one else. Wow, what exceptional service we experienced! I did not think I would have as much trouble as I had finding just a friendly, reasonable, reliable landscaper in Bakersfield. I almost gave up when a friend referred us to check out Arroyo Grande as they had done their beautiful yard years ago. From the first phone call to the last, Jose and Maria were extremely professional and made me feel comfortable. They were upfront and honest, tentative, timely and delivered a fantastic product. Additionally, they arrived on time, were clean, had great communication throughout the whole process and were very accommodating, even after the job was finished I needed Jose to come back out and he came immediately. Jose and crew did my cement twice and still did not do it right. And in the process messed up my artificial turf. Now I get weeds continually all over my artificial turf. I spent so much money on vinegar to put on the artificial lawn, but the weeds still come up. I have other homes with artificial Line in my community and they have no problem with weeds popping up all over and inside artificial law. He really fooled me. He was very nice until you expect him to rectify the problem they did. I do not recommend this place at all. You may be one of the unfortunate ones like me. Period I don't know how to show a picture on this review. If I could, I would show a picture of the grass and the concrete patio they put in. This is what they do to a 75-year-old lady. I thought I was signing up second work order and it turns out they had the word saying that they don't have to do anything else. I feel that an old lady was taken advantage of. My nerves are such that it's too much anxiety for me to fight it. I have to watch my high blood pressure. Also I am not well. I'm tired all the time. This has affected me. All he does is say I can't talk to him to get those attorney. My opinion is he's a wolf and sheeps clothing. read more

We chose Jose to do our backyard based on the price he quoted and upon reviewing photos of his work online. Once the backyard project was completed, we asked him to do our front yard because he did such an amazing job on the back. Jose is a perfectionist! Jose Vera wasted no time--his or ours--in getting a proposal on the table--same day--and then following through with an absolutely outstanding product. In less than 3 weeks, a complete transformation had taken palce. While other contractors seemed unwilling or unable to deal with Bear Valley Springs, Jose was ready. The materials and the labor were coordinated, and the project started promptly. Jose and his crew were on time and productive--they actually finished a day ahead of their schedule! The quality and attention to detail had to be seen to be believed. The best news, aside from the outstanding final product, was the price: $28/sq ft; including 8 inches of gopher wire, gravel and sand, premium pavers and a circular seating area with stunning block and smooth cap and seating. I am very happy with the work they did for me. I live on a 2 acre property. They installed a sprinkler system covering about 1 acre along with sod and drip all around my house. They put in curbing that looks great and accents my garden beds well. I am very impressed with their work and professionalism.
