Popped in ahead on Memorial Day to confirm they could do a simple custom mat for a prebuilt frame and poster. Was told yes, came in same day with materials ready for the purchase. The moment I started looking at mat color options, literally the core of the job, was asked to leave. No explanation, no apology, just "can you please leave" When I expressed frustration about being turned away after a decade of business and confirming in advance, I was told to come back the next day and leave my art with them. I refused and left. This is inexplicable service. I understand bad days happen, but losing a 10-year customer over a simple mat selection because of one person's mood is shortsighted. John and Ishfaq at Art Care did a fantastic job on multiple pieces I needed framed (including creating a shadow box for some family heirlooms). When I walked in, Ishfaq was methodical and patient as we discussed the needs for each piece, compared colors and sizes, etc. The turnaround time was fantastic (in my case, just two weeks). And I was grateful that John was able to deliver the pieces so I didn't have to worry about transporting all of them on foot. The prices were not "cheap" but I would say reasonable for the labor and materials required, and definitely not the highest I've seen. I'd encourage everyone in the neighborhood to support this business. I had ordered a 30x40 piece of wall art from urban outfitters. The print was beautiful but it arrived in a beat up box with a broken frame and broken glass. The urban outfitters frame it came in was bad quality to begin with. So I walked by Art Care to see they might be able to fix it. I asked for a quote for how much to fix the glass only. He quoted me $45 -- which was a steal! I dropped off my art. Upon pick up, he not only replaced the glass, but also he replaced the cheap plastic frame with beautiful wood framing -- and he didn't even charge me for the framing! He also installed the back of the frame with hangers and gave me nails to hang on my wall. I offered to pay more not only because he did way more than the original job request -- but also because times are tough during COVID -- but he insisted on the original quote. Very nice man, and he knows his frames! Highly recommend. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews of my local shops, but the person running this place is not friendly AT ALL. During these hard pandemic times you would think a small business owner would be even partially nice and friendly to a customer -- this guy was not. Not even a hello when I came in; and it's a small place and no one else was there. As a small business owner myself, I appreciate each and every customer that uses my services. They help me feed my family and pay my rent. This guy acted as though he couldn't wait for me to leave. I gave him my business anyway, mainly because I didn't want to walk around and find another place. And gee, wouldn't you know it, even when I returned to pick up my item this guy was still not friendly at all, not even a hello or a smile. So much for trying to support my local shops. Next time I'll go somewhere where my business is appreciated. read more

Support local small businesses. John and his employees at Art Care went above and beyond recently. We own a valuable 9' painting in our apartment that was too large to bring into the store, so they came to us. Carefully, the canvas was removed, rolled and retrenched within their shop. They suggested an ideal contemporary frame and brought it back to hang. Now that's amazing service all within days! This place redefines "Worst Business Ever." The owner, John, should be locked up. I had dropped in for a quote on 2 mats based on specs I provided. He quoted $15 each and said that they could be ready in a day. When I returned on Tuesday, January 16, with the frames and the artwork, his heavyset, bald colleague told me that the mats were $25 each. I mentioned Owner John's $15 quote, but Bald Man said that $15 was just an estimate. When I pointed out that a 67% jump was nowhere near an estimate, BM offered me a "discounted" price of $20 each. Meanwhile, OJ appeared but said nothing, not even a reciprocal hello. I hesitated but accepted the rate. BM asked me to pay up front, something I'd never experienced with other framers. Then he said that the job would take 3-5 days. When I referenced OJ's 1-day timeline, BM said that he could maybe do it in 2 days. And then there's the invoice. At the top it stated, in bold, that the order would be "ready around January 31." 15 days later! Plus, they charged me more than they had quoted: $25.59 each instead of $25, and, after the "discount," $20.47 each instead of $20. Before tax. WTF. At this point, I told them that there were serious discrepancies for a simple job that hadn't even begun. Dead silence. Then BM took out 2 swatches and asked me to choose one. Worse, he recommended a white shade that was much brighter than my white frame (typically an industry no-no with photographs). He said that he needed to hold onto the heavyweight cardboard envelope that I had brought my 12x12 images in, so I left it with him. As I was leaving, OJ said that he was out of the mat that I had selected and wouldn't receive the reorder until Friday, January 19, three days later. No apology, no politesse. Needless to say, the 15 minutes that I had spent there felt like an eternity and did not sit well with me afterward. So the next day I went back to cancel the order and request a refund. OJ was alone in the store. As he handed me my artwork he said, "We don't cut mats. We wasted hours and hours on you." When I said, "What?!" he backtracked and revised his lie, saying that they had wasted 1 hour with me the day before. And then he told me not to come back. In response, I told him that I was very disappointed in his service, and that it wasn't right to treat people this way. His reply: "The door's over there." I reminded him that I needed my envelope back for my artwork. That's when all hell broke loose: OJ flew into a rage, from one end of the shop to the other, shouting at me to get out and that he was calling the police. Shocked and confused, I told him that I hadn't done anything wrong and that I needed my envelope back. He shouted that he didn't have it and that he had never asked for it. I tried to explain that I had left it there per BM's request, but OJ was too lost in his shouting to pause and listen. He then grabbed 2 large, heavy cardboard envelopes off the floor and shoved them at me. I told him that neither of them were mine, which only made him crazier. He continued yelling at me to get out and repeating his threats to call the police. I told him to please do so because he should be arrested for abuse, then left. Luckily, it all worked out for the best. In less than a day, Wade Maxx (Columbus between 67 and 68 Streets) did a fabulous job on the mats and assembling everything. And they couldn't be nicer. I had to write a review for Art Care Custom because they did an AMAZING job for my print. In the past 4 months I had 15 prints framed (I can say that I'm an expert now), but from another framer on UWS. After so many frame-jobs I realized that he was probably charging me to much, so I decided to find another framer. I stopped by Art Care Custom, and the owner was super nice and gave me a quote for my job....very competitive price! When I read the only other review, I was a little worried, but I decided to give it a chance anyway, and I am super happy with the result. I got some other quotes for the same print before deciding for them and they were crazy expensive. Moreover, I had previously framed another print (from a different framer), with the same Italian wood white frame, and the same UV glass, and it cost me exactly double the price. read more

I recently had a framing job done here and can't say I am very satisfied. Although they were nice and helpful at the beginning, I waited well over a week to get the piece before having to call for an update. Once I recieved it I got home and closely inspected the their work. The frame was damaged and not aligned properly. I am still waiting to have the problem resolved. read more

I went to each frame store in the area before choosing Art Care to frame some autographed sports memorabilia. Iqbal did nothing short of a FANTASTIC job! He patiently talked me through all of the options and helped me put together a great layout. On top of that, he gave me a great price--better than competitors' prices--and it was done ahead of schedule. Iqbal even made and mounted the plaques that went inside the frame! The finished product exceeded my expectations. Of all the options in the neighborhood, I'll definitely be going here for any framing. read more

Do NOT recommend. We brought four pieces to them to frame and they came back unprofessional glued on to the matte board. We were quoted 2 weeks at first for the pieces to be done, come 3 weeks I finally call and find out that they were not done yet, "waiting for a matte to come in". A week later we go and see the pieces and were very disappointed. Once pieces was glued on crooked and all three pieces had rippling. We talked to one of the owners and it took at least 30 minutes of arguing before he acknowledged that there was anything wrong. We even got out the measuring tape and showed him what was wrong and how one of the pieces clearly needed to be rotated. I took pictures to document how bad the rippling was. The owner tried to stop me from taking pictures to document their mistakes. When new customers walked in he finally acknowledged what was wrong to get us to leave so he wouldn't look bad to the new customers. He required an extra week to fix the issues and offered no further discount for his mistakes. A week later we finally get pieces. It looks like he was able to rotate the one pieces but the other 3 pieces still look horribly rippled. There's nothing we can do at this point, we thought we would get a discount for bringing 4 pieces at once but would never do this again. It still cost $1200 to do all 4 pieces. VERY UNHAPPY with work done, do NOT RECOMMEND. read more

Awful, awful customer service. Iqbal is the worst. I had paid for a frame by them before and wanted to come back to change the diploma inside, which was exactly the same size. When he told me the $15 service price for it I wanted to rethink whether I would need the service. I lifted up the black paper on the other side and saw that it was just a normal photo frame--a job I could easily do myself after all. I was about to pay the $15 fee anyway just to support his small business and because I was already there when he flew into a rage and told me that he no longer wanted to treat me as a customer since I had "used [his] space" to assess the frame. I had recently had 4 lithographs framed with Art Care. I was very pleased with the overall experience and the service they provided. They helped guide me as I selected the frame that I wanted (which can be overwhelming) and worked within my budget. They completed the job within 1-week and the final product looked wonderful. I was hesitant to bring a few pieces of oversized art to this local shop based on some older reviews. I got some estimates based on size, and they were competitive with Michael's so we went ahead and got 4 pieces framed there. The framing was excellent and what I expected. There was one piece where the wrong size frame was used. It got tense for a few moments there, but the owner made good on the work and re- framed at his own expense. Overall, a good experience, advice is - review all the details to make sure the frame you picked is the one coded on the receipt. read more

I've had a big job of 6 frames with very specific needs and John was very attentive to every detail and didn't rush me with the order. When I've got my art work back it exceeded all my expectations. Not only it was beautifully and very professionally done, but I've got a very careful wrapping and help to carry it to the cab. I have only good things to say about Art Care Custom Framing. They are clearly a company who cares about their craft and takes pride in their finished products. They were patient, attentive, informative, helpful, and they even stayed open late for us (as I couldn't make up my mind). It really felt like our happiness was IMPORTANT to them. They were even more reasonably priced than other frame shops in the area. We came in with 3 different items needing frames. We couldn't be happier with the way they turned out. Also - great selection of frames. But aside from all that, they were simply nice people. I'm a little embarrassed that it's taken me so long to write this review (we picked up our frames months ago) but it speaks to how wonderful they are, that after all this time I still feel so strongly about recommending them! read more

I've rarely written a review of anything and frankly, I'm not the biggest social media guy though I had to stop and recommend this business. These days, its tough to find a small, local business that delivers fabulous work while being kind, earnest and exceptional people. I thought it was the twilight zone because these warm guys (John & Otbal) were more concerned with the quality, color and frame choice and much less concerned with the money for the job. I'd asked them to frame a program and an award page for a sibling that was given a top honor in medicine -- they were interested in a very personal way and I felt like I was dealing with family. Hmm, the work can't be that great if the guys are that kind -- what's the hook here?!? Yes, I'm a cynical NY'er that was proved wrong when I saw the work ... unreal. Beautiful - better than I imagined and John wouldn't let me take the frame because he saw a 'tiny' spec of tape on one of framed pages within the frame - it wasn't perfect for him and spent another 1/2 hour fixing it. Who does that? I wish these guys were my cleaner, doctor, delivery guy, etc., etc. ... use them. You'll feel great about the product and good about yourself just knowing these guys -- their is great depth and kindness in this business. read more
