I can't say enough good things about 14th Street Framing. I brought a canvas in and asked to have it framed in a specific way. The associate helping me advised me of how it should be framed and he was 100% correct. I picked my work up and it looks wonderful. I believe 14th Street Framing has been in operation for years and I guess it's their experience that makes them so good at framing. Lastly, the price was very good. their advice is good; the frame looks classy; but like one of the reviewers below, i felt that i had been ripped off. they made a big deal about non-essential non-visible things like joining the pieces of the frame in the corner; and i feel they could have found ways to lower the price. while the end result was good, i paid over $500 for mat, frame and non glare glass and since that time (about two years ago) have had the same quality of work done at other places for less than half that amount. i learned my lesson from this experience and now check the prices before even entering an establishment. bottom line: if the prices are not reasonable, run! read more

I came here to get a very large custom float frame done. I knew exactly what I wanted but had a ton of questions. The gentleman helping me was super knowledgeable and answered every single one of my questions/concerns. So I felt very confident in getting my frame here. I must confess to having mixed feelings about this establishment. They've been around for a long time, and when I was on a movie-poster jag about ten years ago I used them to mount and frame all my posters. I also used them a few years ago (2008-2009) to frame some artwork I bought overseas. Their work was good and I thought that their prices were reasonable, though never cheap. Their customer service was knowledgeable, while never exactly warm and fuzzy. I returned recently and found that their prices had really shot through the roof, and that they seemed intent on jacking up the price with little extras of dubious value and were not concerned the least about saving the customer money. It might benefit them in the short run but that's no way to get a return customer. Their failure to provide itemized receipts makes price comparisons difficult, which I suspect is not unintentional. As other reviewers have pointed out, and as I experienced previously, the people behind the counter are not exactly the warmest individuals I've ever met in the retail trade. Not rude, but they exude a "we don't really care if you come back" vibe. I'd say this situation has worsened over the years, to the point of becoming noticeable. Overall I like the work they did, but I came away with the feeling that I paid too much and I'm not likely to come back. Update: I see there's a nice response from the merchant. While appreciated, it really doesn't help much as my main problem is that I came away feeling "skinned." Having an itemized bill would be nice, but doesn't really help, and would not make me more willing to come back. I'm glad the owner will be talking to his service staff, as the man I dealt with, who seems to be one of the principals there, has a frosty "attitude" and need to realize that there are plenty of other framing places in the vicinity. read more

I had a living social deal and decided to take a menu memento down to get it framed for remembrance sake. The guy who helped me was knowledgeable of everything and worked with me to find what I was looking for. Just picked up my stuff the other day and the product was AWESOME. SOOOOO AWESOME. The framing job was honestly perfect. I could not ask for me. My framing wasn't cheap but I've been picking up a couple diff frames (my diploma, matted prints) and turns out, frames are just expensive. That's just how the market is I guess. I will agree, my first visit there the guys working were not the friendliest and are all-business. However, when I returned they had misframed one of the pieces and they offered to quickly fix it within the hour. I picked it up the next day and they were honestly the nicest people. They spent like 15 minutes just talking to me about my move and even helped me packed it up for the move. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

I've had 3 custom pieces framed here. One was a giant vintage lithograph with some minor damage-- they helped me pick a matte that matched flawlessly, and find an affordable, unusual frame that mimicked the pattern in the poster. When the final framing job was done, you could barely see the damage. When the wire snapped, breaking the glass and damaging the frame 2 or 3 years later, they fixed it for free-- minus an upgrade to the glass I gladly paid for. Another custom job involved a two-sided piece board game that we wanted framed with glass on both sides. Again, perfect. With the third poster, when I walked in I definitely was with an employee that wasn't up to the same level of service as the guy I usually talk to (grey hair, beard)-- she seemed lethargic, didn't offer any opinions or go out of her way to offer consultations-- but I persisted in asking for help and eventually she pulled in a senior associate to help consult with me on choosing my frame. Within seconds, he'd pulled down two new frames that looked PERFECT. Occasionally, you get a dud of an employee, but for the most part the prices are reasonable and the owners' eyes are impeccable. I'm going back next week with a new vintage poster, even though I've moved deep into Brooklyn. I don't trust anyone else. read more

The best frame work I have ever had created for me. I would go there any time I want expert frame work on any special piece. Each piece they touched, was transformed into a, well framed carefully matted, classy, and elegant work of art. I had four prints I had inherited from my Grandmother. The prints were in old, none archival glass frames, with no matting. When I took them to 14th St. Framing Gallery, they had a wide variety of frames and matting to choose from. They let me take my time in my selection and handled these pieces with expert custom workmanship putting together my selections of frame, matting and archival non glare glass. They were caring, and interested in my story, and my satisfaction with their work. I did not feel like I was in some frame factory, I was a real person, with a real story and I could tell they cared about the results of my pieces. Laughably bad customer service. The unfriendly guy who "helped" me acted like I had interrupted his naptime or toilet break. My basic questions about pricing and options were met with a scowl and the bare minimum of response. I went in with 2 old paintings of my mothers that have been in the basement for years. They were not looking so hot when I brought them in. The one guy working here (his name escapes me!) did a great job listening to what I had in mind, picking out the frames and with matting selections. The only thing I could have been more picky on was the pricing. I was told how much each picture would cost to frame but did not have each part of the framing itemized. So you dont really know where all the cost of the framing is coming from. But I think of my paintings like furniture and they are an investment. 2 weeks later I picked them up and I am extremely happy with them! read more

Disappointing is an understatement for this place. I should have known when by the service I got when I dropped off my piece for framing, but I thought I'd give them a chance. From what I could tell there are 2 principals, but one is clearly the more experienced and knowledgeable. I waited and waited, and nobody said a word to me. Eventually the other man came over to deal with me in a corner of the store while the main principal took up most of the space with another client. I laid out what I wanted, picked the background, the frame and the glass. They said they had to order the frame because it was so deep. They called me a week later to tell me the cost would be 25% more due to the required depth of the frame. I wasn't pleased, but allowed them to go ahead. I ended up with a finished product that is 25% larger than needed because they made the borders too big. I saw that size nowhere on my receipt and expressed my frustration and displeasure. The items I had framed can't be replaced or duplicated and are now housed in an emormous frame. The guy said it couldn't be redone. The main principal came out to show me where this was on my receipt, which I pointed out was unintelligible. He offered to take $100 off the price, but at that point it was useless. I told him to keep the money and give me the product. Moral of the story: Don't use this framer. They are overpriced and less than transparent. read more

Recently brought an old print to be re-mounted, frame repaired, and broken glass removed and new glass installed. Everything came out fine. Nice woman told me what to expect and when it would be done. It was ready for pick-up about 2 weeks sooner than the furthest date she'd given me. read more
