With the prices and everything else soaring in Issaquah, I needed to find a new nail salon. In the past both me and my fiancé would both get pedicures and a fill and it was over $250 with tax and tip. This is absolutely insane considering 15 years ago you could get a fill $ & a pedicure For around $75. Started looking and found art deco. Thought I'd give it a try and went and got a fill. For a shellac fill it was only $40! I couldn't believe when she told me the price and I asked her to repeat herself... Now for the record, this is not an upscale joint... It's not like castles in Bellevue, where you get wine, and slushy,... It is a very basic Salon, but the services are incredible and you walk out of the salon with a great fill and pedicure for around $100 ! If you want to pay for all that ambience like the waterfalls and the wine, then yes continue to go to castles and pay those prices. I for one choose to get the good service and don't need the waterfalls and wine! If you're willing to give this low-key nail salon to try, then I would highly recommend it !! read more

I was desperately needing to get my nails done and have been travelling so much that I haven't been able to go to my usual place. I've been going to random salons that are convenient and haven't been getting very good nails, until now. I called on the way back to Sammamish from running errands and they had an opening right when I would be driving through so I headed over. They have a small parking lot but it wasn't busy and I was able to get a spot out front. I needed a fill since I had gotten my nails done a few weeks prior and they weren't looking so good and some had chipped at weird areas. Ben helped me right away and did such a great job! He definitely takes pride in his work and my nails were done so much better than all the last places I've gone to (but most of which were on the east coast). I was in the area and called a few other salons but they were busy. Called Art Deco and they had an immediate opening! The salon is located in a small parking lot. Upon entering the salon, I noticed it was a little run down. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, there was no posted signage about pricing, and the place was dim. Two out of three employees did not wear a mask until I walked in. The whole experience was a little odd. I sat down and immediately the owner/manager (?) started on my nails. I felt pressured to pick a color pretty quick. Told her I'm still deciding and she kept asking every few minutes. I settled for white and black and asked for a small heart on two nails. When she started on my nails, the drill slipped a few times onto my skin. And a few nails were crooked. I didn't notice until I left, but she never compared my nails together to see if she needed to adjust the length. At all the other salons I go to, the nail tech will look at both thumbs together to see they're the same length, and do the same with each finger. When I got to my car, I realized how long some nails were compared to others. The white polish had lots of bubbles in it. I had to ask them to fix it - but she painted an extra coat of white to hide them. One of the hearts was sloppy - more like a blob than a heart. And my coffin nails were rounded which I did not ask for. The polish was not applied super close to the cuticle, so it looks like I had gotten them done a week ago already. At the end, they put on cuticle oil and then put a bag with hot wax on my hands. Then she came around to massage my shoulders/neck. I've never been to a salon where they placed wax on your hands? It felt nice, but the nail tech didn't do a good job of wiping it all off. She insisted that I walk out like that because it helps moisturize. It really just made my car feel oily. The music is strange. When I walked in it was pop/country. Then it changed to very sexual hip hop? Like music you definitely don't listen to with family. It was so odd. My total came out to $50. The lady asked me if I have cash to tip or card. I've never had a nail tech ask about tip. Either way I would've tipped, but she made sure not to swipe my card until I told her I had cash. Very uncomfortable experience when somebody is waiting for a tip and watching you fumble money. I will not be coming back! read more

$27 for a pedicure which included a paraffin wrap, which surprised me. Came in due to back issues and not being able to clip my toenails and the friends I asked wouldn't/couldn't help. The employee that I talked to on the phone, in the store and cashed me out was polite. The pedicurist would not speak to me at all, just forced my feet around which is why this is a 4 star and not 5. She did an excellent job. I saw her speak with her co-worker, but for some reason, she would not respond to anything I said and only moved my feet around to be where she wanted them instead of asking me. Other nail salons I've been to don't do that. 1 star missing because they don't do the best job at nail designs (don't have clean lines/tiny brush for more intricate designs). If you just want a basic manicure or pedicure, whether that's shellac or regular, they will do a great job! I would recommend going to another salon for more intricate nail designs. First off I typically get my pedicure at the salon up the street but for some reason they happened to be closed on Tuesday's. So I went here not thinking much. Asked for the basic pedicure as this is what I always get at my regular salon thinking it's just basic polish, cut and quick massage. Turns out their basic pedicure includes paraffin dip, hot stones, actually taking a long time on your feet. My jaw was to the floor by the end and very confused thinking was this the enhanced pedicure?! I guess not! I was very wowed by the service and the only way I could say thank you was by a heavy tip! I had went for a soak off & left very disappointed! the lady barely soaked my nails off & used the drill in high power! It took forever to grow my natural nails out & i had ended up cutting all my nails off because my nails were so thin & would bend because she filed my nails down so much. I have ridges on my natural nails. the lady tried to take them off with a fake nail & ended up being too rough & cut my finger. it was bleeding forever & she didn't do anything but put acetone on it, the same bloody cotton ball she was using to "soak" off the nail. This was the worst pedicure I've ever had - it took forever to get it over with, I spent like an hour in the chair , you would think it would be an outstanding pedicure ... however it looked bad. Shellac was applied in a patchy manner and it looked and felt bumpy, what I did not know was even possible. I went in with low expectations and a month+ old shellac pedi. I had called ahead & was pleasantly surprised they'd agree to do a full set & pedi, both shellac, on a Saturday evening. Woo hoo! The salon worker clearly pretended that she took down my reservation ( I had to remind her to take my name) and then when I showed up, never looked into any books or computer. I've been there twice. Both times I had to wait additional half an hour until someone could do the service I requested. I thought the first time might have been a fluke. Things happen. But both times when I showed up the salon worker just set down to start someone's pedicure. So I don't think there were reservations at all, or they were double booking with walk ins. Their selection of colors is a big selling point to me. A lot of places ave a few dozen and a handful of shellac/gel, but they have a huge variety of colors. It is a no-frills, no kitch kind of a salon. Simple, under-stated, but with comfy chairs and friendly smiles. Don't expect to find any Art Deco wall art inside as it was just catchy name offered to the owner by a family friend. However, there is nothing to dislike about this salon. Tina, the owner, cares so much about her customers that I can see how much it pains her to turn anyone away. (But, seriously, if you have a party of four and you're expecting instant pedicures without an appointment, you'll be disappointed; first in the fact that she'll be too busy to accommodate you, and secondly that you'll end up at a third-rate-chop-shop that CAN take you because they are NEVER busy. Heaven knows there are plenty of those places in Issaquah; Art Deco is not one of them.) Many firsts here for me: - First time I've actually watched tools being sterilized before they're used. - First time I saw a salon sanitize the UV light nail dryer before each use. - First time a nail person hasn't hurt me while doing my nails. I am SENSITIVE beyond belief and it is extremely easy to burn or injure my skin. This is first time ever that did not happen in the decades I've been getting my nails done. That alone is worth a return visit. - First time a massage was included in a fill service. - First time I was asked if I needed to work during my visit, so she could accommodate me by allowing me breaks to talk/type, etc! My favorite part of the service, aside from Tina's perfectionist nature in getting the shape and color just right, was the paraffin hand dip and simultaneous shoulder massage while awaiting the paraffin to cool. They don't do the best job (I had to ask them to clean out under my toes more and they once took all the funk from my toes and put it in the tub before we were done! ) but they do a decent job most of the time and it's close to my house. My toenails were in horrible shape after Covid and was in desperate need of a pedicure. I was incredibly relieved once I got it done. My toes were clean and happy again! Once it came time to pay, I asked how much it was and she told me $25. I was relieved to hear they didn't increase their prices. After my card was swiped, I looked at the total and it didn't add up. She told me it was $28. I specifically asked before paying and she told me $25. I asked if she'd honor the price she told me and she said no. It's not the $3 I was arguing over, but the principle of it. I would have gladly paid the $28 if they had just told me upfront. There was no apology, no nothing. I came here as a walk-in because I needed to get my nails done last minute for a wedding I'm in this Saturday. My normal salon is in Seattle and I work in Issaquah, so I picked this place based on convenience and reviews. I got a shellac mani and a regular pedi done and was really pleased with the services. The girl who helped me was attentive, thorough and patient with me when I was too engrossed in texting to pay attention to when I should remove my foot from the water or stick a different hand under the drying/heat lamp. The gal even helped me pick out colors (the bride had said the bridesmaids nails needed to be neutral, so she helped me pick out the best neutrals for my skin tone). The pedi and mani included a hand/foot massage as well as a paraffin wax treatment (which I don't find is common for hands, so that was a pleasant surprise). The mani also included a back/shoulder massage, which some salons do and some don't, so I never go in expecting one. The reason why I'm dropping a star was because of my encounter at checkout. Both the Yelp page and the salon advertise that they take credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Amex) however a sign on the counter says they prefer cash. Fine, but I don't read the sign on the counter when selecting a nail salon. The gal who was checking me out (not the one who did my nails) told me my total and when I handed over my Visa, that's when things got weird. I'm not sure if there was a language barrier but at first I thought she wanted me to pay the tip in cash and put the rest on my card, but then in the end, she preferred I pay all in cash. Since I wasn't prepared, I had $3 in cash on me (not even enough for tip), so she basically offered me an IOU and told me to come back later with the amount due. Luckily there was an ATM in Fred Meyers so I just drove down the street, got the money and came back right away, but the transaction portion of this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. The color I chose had little left in the bottle and she did 4 coats to be sure of even color. I have thick cuticles and she took the time and patience to clean them up well. When she was done with the topcoat she checked each nail to clean up any polish or topcoat on the skin around the nails. My hands were soft and smelled wonderful! I do my own nails most of the time so when I pay for a manicure I expect it to be BETTER than what I do at home. Sadly, most of the time it is not. Today, Dee Dee exceeded my expectations!!
