Honestly, I love and live for the local art scene! In fact, I met my soulmate at powwow and now bring our son and blended family of daughters to all these events. It's a great concept for the young generation to grasp as a way to encourage the creativity within our youth. As a secondary teacher, it's important for society to have some sort of outlet from the monotonous repetition of our society. Art and flea, you inspire my children and I to just be unique, aid our local economy, and simply let our minds be free.

This was my 2nd time at Art and Flea! I love the Crappy Kids and knew they would be there. I parked in the garage and walked over. It is right behind the Marukai market in warehouse 3. It is $3 to get in but well worth it! This time there were new food people to try out! I stopped at the crappy kids first and picked up new stickers. Then I got a sandwich from Earls sandwich, amazing! Of course, I got some poppers from Paul's Poppers too. This is such a great local shopping experience. I like it better than the Night Market. The atmosphere is nicer and they always have dope music! I will definitely be going again!

Definitely a cool and hip thing to do once a month. It happens every last Thursday from 5-10pm and they're now located in the parking lot / warehouse area next to the theaters and behind Marukai market. Check out local vendors and artists and there's even a free photo booth here (my fav)!

But if you want something a little more special, definitely look for the local vendors. There are some great spots with handmade items. A few of my favorites that I actually bought from and brought home and I am using: - Cheeky Beach: super cute beachwear by Vivian and her son (they also have a shop in Haleiwa) - Touch of a Goddess: handmade jewelry by a mother-daughter duo - Leonardo Dale Photography: beautiful photo art of the island now displaying at my house. There's a ton to see, so go with time, it's a big market. They also have food and sometimes live music. Admission is $2 per person (cash only), and I'd recommend bringing cash since a lot of vendors don't take cards.

Parking is available in the back and also by the tram station parking lot - just need to walk a little bit. Cost remains $1 for Kama'ainas *locals) and active duty military, $2 for all else. A great place to purchase touristy items, but also stuff you don't think you need until you see it. Check it out! I'm glad the authorities realized the need to keep the Aloha Swap Meet.

It's a bit of a cross between a flea market and a Chinatown. The prices will get lower and some vendors will wheel and deal if you walk away. I bought a carved coconut tiki mug that started out at $25--my hesitation brought the price down to $15. Dog bandanas went from $15 each this $10 each. You get the picture. If it's fun to look around and bargain, but be aware that we saw similar items at the ABC convenience stores (on every corner--like a circle k but much nicer) for, in some cases, a lower price. The size of the market was not too large, and it's located near Target, Face Shop and the nearby shops along the way. The market brings a lot of foot traffic (local and visitors ) to the mall level shops near Target. The Vendors I spoke with were courteous and answered my questions about their products. Interestingly enough, I met one vendor who specifically did not want to be reviewed on Yelp. Her business was not yet on Yelp. She explained to me that she is a very small business and she did not want her business featured in a review or on Yelp. I honored the request and I hope did not post a review for her business. Vendors had all different price ranges. There were craft items, jewelry, caramels, homemade knitted items and so much more. Great for holiday gifts this year.

I've been seeing all the food vendors but never had tried them until tonight. After hitting balls at the range, I was headed out and the aroma of all the food got to me, so I decided to get something to take home. I selected Keeks Eatz, and ordered the Karaage Chicken plate. The food is made to order, so it did take quite a while (over 15 minutes) to get my plate, but it was worth the wait. The chicken was still crisp when I got home and the portion was large. I could barely eat half the plate, so saved the rest for tomorrow. It's served with either tossed greens or a scoop of Mac salad, and comes with 2 dipping sauces; garlic aioli and spicy mayo. The market has a "core" of regular food and gift product vendors, with some others rotating in and out. They encompass the roundabout driveway fronting Jolene's entrance, and also use the event space inside, as well. It's a nice event that offers a great mix for everyone, with people around the neighborhood walking down the street to attend. I hope they continue for years to come.

You can find aloha shirts just about anywhere on Oahu, whether at expensive boutiques in Waikiki or in the nearest ABC store. However, the visual appeal of the shirt depends completely the eye of the beholder. With that in mind, there probably isn't any other store on the island that offers a broader selection. It's pretty overwhelming. The drawback is that the massive inventory is packed in a retail space so constrained that it can be a challenge to navigate. It took me a while to realize the shirts on the central racks are the priciest, some costing hundreds and (gasp) even thousands of dollars. There are used shirts along the wall that sell as low as $9. I wasn't particularly clear on the difference in quality, but I'll give you one guess which racks I was rifling through. The clerk explained that there were a couple racks of new shirts and the rest are vintage. Many of the shirts were produced in Hawaii. Some of the items are pretty dusty, and had me thinking that they hadn't been moved in a long time. The prices are pretty hefty (except the shirts were reasonable). There were a number of customers scooping up shirts. I was a little claustrophobic to be honest in the tight quarters. There is no dedicated parking. Street parking is available if you're lucky.
