    Brie, turkey and pear sandwich
    Angela A.

I have been a few times to the red door and I love how cozy and welcoming the place is . I'm not a coffee drinker however I always go for their delicious sandwiches. I always get it to go , so I rarely eat there but for what I can see many people go to study/work and is a very calm environment. My favourite one was the brie, turkey and pear sandwich. So tasteful, and different. I would say the only thing is that their prices are a bit high, so just be aware that you may be out with a bill a bit higher than expected .

Ehhhhhh I was super excited to try this place but I found it underwhelming. The brownie and whoopie cookie were overpoweringly sweet. The spinach galette was plain with barely any flavour. All their items look delicious but the flavour did not follow through.

I love their coffee.. usually they have lots of treats and they can make you sandwiches per order.. I came in the afternoon on a Sunday most of their sandwiches were sold out so I settled for just a coffee. They also now post pandemic have a lot of their treats frozen and ready to enjoy at home

Simply the best. For my brother and his wife this place has become a second home and I can see why.

I LOVED it here! I came on a Saturday during the day, since they usually close early on weekdays (6pm). The inside is super cozy, although small. They have lots of hanging plants, and decorations, and their homemade products. I got a vanilla matcha latte, which was perfectly sweet and indulgent, as well as a cranberry coconut bar (so decadent)! And a beer. They had quite the variety of beer! It was super hard to decide on a treat, since they have LOTS of amazing looking baked goods, AND savoury items (which I'll have to try next time). The service is really friendly, and you can tell the guys have fun working there, which I appreciate. It was really cozy to sit on the high tables and look out onto the street. Definitely coming back, I need to try their other sweet/savoury treats! I only wish they were downtown since I have to come to Beechwood for them, but worth!

This is one of Ottawa's BEST little gems! There is something for everyone and everything is great. From their amazing jams, marmalades and pickled beets to their most delicious coffee, lattes, lemonades, iced teas and food - where to start? Grilled cheese, several different types including peanut butter, Nutella, banana and goat cheese - sounds odd, but is AMAZiNG! Delicious salads, soups and various breakfast options and so many pastry, cookies, and such to choose from, including ice cream sandwiches to die for. I can't praise this place enough, it's so good! And the staff are friendly, nice and attentive. And the place itself is sweet and clean - lots of nice things to look at, as well, a sizeable nice patio, for nice days. I hope it's around for years to come.......oh, and always, very cool music and atmosphere!

This is probably one of my favourite coffee shops in Ottawa. They're always using great coffee beans. The staff know how to make great espresso based drinks. Food is good, sandwiches range from basic to fancy grilled cheese (good options for kids + those who are more discerning). Nice selection of baked goods, some staples and some on rotation/experimental basis. I recommend the sticky buns. Recommended.

This place is soooo great! My bf and I just moved from Toronto and we greatly missed pilot coffee and cute little cozy cafés ... We were so psyched when we found the Red Door and realized that they carry Pilot coffee beans aka the best coffee roasters ever. The staff were all so friendly and the selection of food and sweets (including SuzieQ donuts!!!) was awesome! I had the overnight oats which are served in a cute little mason jar. It's made with almond milk and yogurt and served with grapes. It was so nice and flavourful! My bf had the smoked ham breakfast sandwich and he loved it. We'll definitely be back. It's easy to find and lots of street parking. Go there asap!!

Stopped in on Saturday, for the first time, and had a Beechwood Fog and slice of lemon loaf. The experience was so good that I met friends there on Sunday: a kale and quinoa salad was enjoyed, a grilled cheese with soup was savoured, and a sales chocolate cookie was devoured! The service is personable and friendly. I can't wait to go back and would suggest making a trip to have their Beechwood Fog.

St zotique and their homemade sodas!

The most delicious London Fog, highly recommend. A little tiny on the inside which is the one drawback.

This Dao Cafe is co-located with a Tealive. However, they also sell their own drinks (mostly coffee…read moreand tea beverages like lattes and cappuccinos). They sell lots of fancy pastries, with the prices to match, lol. I've tried the Lychee Rose cake $11.50. It was served in a round container the size of a small drinking glass. The lychee and Rose flavours were pronounced, but the rose dominated and I would have preferred the reverse. The top had a light sprinkling of tiny real rose petal pieces. The cake was sponge cake and was soft and moist. The cream was airy and fluffy. It was tasty, but a bit pricey for the portion size. I've also tried their Korean macarons ($3.90 each). Korean macarons are like French macarons except there's a lot of filling and it's a thick buttery cream. I'm not a fan of the filling. It's too rich for me. However, if you like these types of macarons these are well made. My overall assessment is that the desserts look pretty, the taste is good, but you're paying more for the aesthetics. Service is courteous and efficient. The cafe is also really pretty inside. Very Instagramble ;) It's in a plaza, so lots of free parking. (25)

I love the first Dao location that opened in Ottawa…read more Maybe I expected too much for this location which is a a 3*, A-OK, in my books. We went on a Saturday around 5p. The seating and tables weren't being attended to, so there were crumbs at and on every available seating/table combo. The garbage in the seating area was overflowing. Customer service at the cash was cheerful and reasonably efficient. The barrista failed us, as, with only our order, it took a while to receive it. My flat white, which should be smooth with a slightly sweet finish was bitter and acidic. Sigh. Lots of people seemed to be enjoying themselves. The pastries are as stunning and tasty as at the other location. This location is also quite beautiful with an airy feel. Nice space for a chat. The seating along the window is likely best suited to singles, or under thirty crowd, as, to have a conversation, you either have to put a leg up on the bench or crane your torso and neck. I found it a bit uncomfortable. And since that was just about the only seating left...I'm wondering if others may have had similar experiences. This location is much closer to home for us... maybe I'll keep my Doa fix for when I'm in the west end of the city.

I'd heard for years that this was supposed to be a decent diner. It's a local small business, so I…read morewant to be supportive and finally gave it a try. Menu pricing is high for diner fare. The fish and chips were mildly offensive, actually: $10 for frozen fish sticks? Food preparation was unimpressive: use a lighter oil for frying and change to oil more often. I had a terrible taste in my mouth I couldn't get rid of for hours after eating there. The place was dusty and just felt slimy. The only good thing I can say is that the servers were personable. They weren't great at serving but they were trying. The crowd didn't look like a Yelp-ing kind of crowd so if they can keep their regulars, that's great but I'm not sure this place is supposed to be such a dive (the bad kind). Whether a restaurant's market is foodies or non-foodies looking for a meal, everyone parting with hard-earned money for food (whether $5 or $150) should get good food at great value. I hope that the owners think about improving their quality standards.

Verdict: The place to go "where nobody knows your name"…read more Although this place does not seem like the place that a frequent Yelper would go, I like to venture out, and found this nugget of gold. I must admit, it was a semi-pleasant surprise. The diner is very simple, and the staff was pleasant, and seem to double as bouncers, as they all look the same. Makes one wonder what takes place here after dark. Anyway, onwards.... The food was, well, edible. I can't say I was overly impressed, however having previously experienced Piper's Diner, I can say that it is a HUGE step up from there. Overall, I can't really recommend going here, but I can't recommend staying away either. If you happen to be in the area, and for some reason the McDonald's (in the same parking lot) happens to be freakishly closed, it might do to hold you over until you find another place. Also, make sure that you get a table close to the window, so you can yell at the people trying to steal the wheels off your car while you dine. (Not kidding)
