Had a very expensive hot pink Jason Wu I'd bought at Barney's a few years ago and thought I'd give it some new life for a premiere where everyone was wearing red. I painstakingly dyed it with special dye stovetop and it transformed to a deep lux red. Beautifully glam and fit like a glove.The dress always had an issue with a wavy side zipper but now it was extreme, causing a very noticeable wave from my armpit to my hip bone I carried it like a delicate baby to my appointment with Lewin thinking the investment would be worth it. If you know anything about sewing you know a wavy zipper is caused by shrinking fabric which makes the zipper too long, so you need to remove and replace with a shorter zipper. No brainer. When I put it on I explained what I wanted done and the tailor nodded and started marking the dress with chalk where he wanted to remove fabric."No, it's not extra fabric, I just want to replace the zipper." He told me no and continued marking out where he wanted to cut. I pointed out that the top was just as wavy too to which he said "there's nothing wrong with the top that's fine." We debated for a bit and then I asked if we could just move the zipper instead from the side to the back. He agreed and then I was told it was going to cost $136 and another $75 for rush fee. Ok fine, that's a lot of work and whatever $211 and a bottle of dye for a perfectly sewn drop dead dress. Good deal! When I come back to pick it up the zipper was in the same place, and still curly. He decided on his own not to do the work I asked for and looks like he had just shortened the zipper on the bottom. It had also been ironed too hot in an attempt to get the zipper to lay flat and the delicate fabric had a sheen and discoloration where the seam allowance was along the length of the dress on the zipper side. When I pointed it out the receptionist said she didn't see anything which, come on. I was out of time, the day before the premiere, now I've got to figure out how I'm going to clean it, it still doesn't fit right right and I'm $211 lighter. He's still pinching and pulling what he thinks is extra fabric and moving the dress around like it's an unsolvable mystery. I measure out the shortest zipper I can possible maneuver out of and have him just close the dress. It's slightly less bad than it was. What a waste. read more

This place charges a lot for the "art lewin" experience. I don't know what this experience is or what it entails to but I'm thinking its only applicable if you're using them to build a suit/dress for you from scratch. I don't know how many of you reading this is looking for a place to get a suit made, but i'm betting not many. Most of you are here because you're looking for a reputable place to get your suit/dress tailored. My experience here was just like any other place. I was walked into a room where I was told to put my suit on. A tailor came over and asked what i wanted. Then I took my suit off and put my regular clothes back on. The front desk tallied up the amount of work I needed done and I was told that I would pay when I pick up my clothes. If you're not in a rush or need your clothes within a week, you don't need to read any further. You'll pick up your clothes a week or so later and then pay what they charge. If you need your clothes within a week, read on. I needed my suit alterations done in time for a wedding that was 4 days away. The guy at the front desk asked if I needed this anytime soon so I told him I needed it in 4 days. This is where it gets interesting. He calls a lady and asks if she's able to accommodate a rush on my alterations. I can CLEARLY hear what she's saying on the phone. ----She asks how much he told me they were going to charge. He said that he hasn't mentioned a cost to me yet. Then she asks him what number he's thinking: the lower amount or the other amount. He tells her the other amount. Then she laughs and agrees with him and hangs up. ------ The guy at the front desk looks at me and tells me that it's $100 to rush my alterations. WTF? Honestly, at this point I was expecting EVERYTHING to be overcharged so maybe if he had just told me in the beginning it was going to $100 I would've just sucked it up and been ok with it. MAYBE. It was the whole slimy conversation he had with this lady that really pissed me off. Art Lewin projects an image of class and sophistication so this kind of business tactic was the last thing I expected. I told the front desk I wasn't paying that much. Then he asked what I was expecting to pay so I said $40 TOPS. He calls the lady back and she says $80. At this point I was really angry. I was on the verge of just grabbing my suit and leaving BUT I needed my suit for this wedding on time. It was already 6PM and that meant I would lose a day if I decided to take my business elsewhere. I told him I'll pay but only because I was out of options and that I would NOT be using them again for any of my future alteration needs. I picked up my suit 3-4 days later. The alterations were fine. Was it obviously better quality than the other places I've been to? No. My recommendation: Take your business elsewhere. You're paying almost double the price of most reputable places for NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Additional notes: Theres only metered parking that ENDS AT 4PM. If you're looking to get to them after work, you're SOL. You'll need to go home first and then uber there. Also, their business hours are a little sketchy. It says here that they close at 6PM DAILY but when they called me to pick up the suit, they said they were planning on closing AROUND 5:30pm. LMFAO. read more

Had my first consultation on 05/12/22 to discuss a custom 2 piece bespoke suit at the *base* price of roughly $2500. This option included a custom shirt, tie or bowtie complimentary with a turn around time of 4-6 weeks. Additional costs added to the base price for premium material choice and I'm sure for some detailing and alteration for a total price in the range of $3-4K. Seemed reasonable considering the custom fit, lifetime repair/adjustment option, and expected 10 year lifespan of the suit with proper care. I planned on attending a wedding 06/22/22 and scheduled to meet with Art at his downtown SD location. This was my very first experience in purchasing a suit. I had perviously gone to multiple men's suit places and as a woman, it was very difficult to find the right fit. Even with tailoring it was obvious that women were not their main customer base so of course everything just felt off. The material for each suit I tried on felt so synthetic and unfit. For this reason, I decided to go all in and invest in a custom made suit. My first meeting with Art was fantastic. We talked about my expectations and he was very thorough with all the suit details. Art was very professional and even measured me himself. It was extremely apparent that his experience and expertise was exactly what I had been looking for. He was super reassuring and even gave me his direct number since it would be a bit of a tight turnaround. I reached out again via email on 06/03/22 and got a response the very next day regarding my suit status- which was 7-10 days out. I was scheduled for my first fitting on 06/21/22. The suit looked amazing in the garment bag, but when I tried it on for the first time I instantly knew Art had given me the masterpiece he had promised. The jacket required one final alteration, which Art himself recommended. He could have let me walk right out the door but instead he showed me his integrity and the high caliber standard to which he held his brand. I agreed with his recommended alteration and he told me he would have the entire suit pressed and overnighted to me since my event was the very next day. To be completely honest, I was not thrilled at the idea of shipping as it would leave too big of a risk in my opinion. I believe that Art could sense that I was a bit displeased and he actually was able to catch me on my way out and schedule for me to pick it up the very next morning. Aside from the fact that it fit like a glove, I love that the suit material felt of high quality and was incredibly breathable. Which is something very important to me as I tend to run hot. I love the detailing that went into the pattern inside the jacket and that I was able to have my initials on the sleeves of the shirt and full name on the inside of the jacket. Nothing felt off (oversized/boxy/saggy or too tight) and my confidence was soaring. Thank you so much for this great first time experience, Art and team. After coming across this place on yelp and seeing mostly 5-star soaring reviews, how could I NOT make an appointment to get my professional clothes tailored here? Well, when I arrived for my 4 pm appointment on a Wednesday afternoon, there was 1 gentleman making some calls and 1 gentleman there to take my measurements (who I had to find in the back room). The receptionist was gone for the day and Art Lewin was no where to be found for my clothing appointment at this establishment. My tailor spoke little-to-no english and we hardly understood one another, we had to exchange phrases 3-4 times before understanding a glimpse of what the other said. I was only there for about 30 minutes but it felt like an hour with how complicated everything was becoming, communication wise. If this tailor shop did not have such amazing reviews on yelp, and knowing what I know now, I would not have stepped foot in this building. I can get better customer service at my local 3 star cleaners/tailors around the block from my home; and walk out feeling confident that I'm getting a better deal and feeling better about leaving my clothes there. Instead of walking out of Art Lewin Bespoke Clothiers and feeling confused, worried about them ruining my clothes, wondering and hoping they will get my order correct and wondering if this was the right choice to make. I was so confused about who was a good tailor on yelp, then I saw the reviews for Art Lewin online. From the moment I came in, I knew this was the spot. I brought in my Tallia suit, which I needed to be completely re-tailored for a "extra-slim fit". Art was very accommodating and had it back to me in a week and a half. Ladies & Gentleman, it is not very often that I take the time to write a review. However, the experience and final result for my full bespoke wedding suit (plus two bespoke shirts) was so on point, I wanted to let all of you know. From the first meeting until the last fitting, Art was just fantastic all around. I did an extensive amount of research and in person meetings prior to selecting the right bespoke tailor. Once I met Art, I knew he was the guy. The entire bespoke experience is honestly one of a kind. From selecting the fabric, color, lining, pattern, lapel style, fit, and more! One thing I'll point out is my body type. I'm an intense cross fitter and nothing ever fits off the rack (size 30 waist and typically a 40 short off the rack which doesn't look good - just perspective on the shoulders to waist proportion). Art's bespoke tailoring resulted in the suit (& shirts) fitting like a glove on my entire body. I'm honestly still impressed with the final result till this day. The fitting process took some time (just be patient), but it's all part of the process (I had full confidence in Art and he delivered). If you are reading this review, we're very similar in dedicating time and research into a purchase. Whether it's for a special occasion or adding something to the wardrobe. My bespoke suit and shirts were definitely an investment, but I know there will be multiple social/work events to put it all together again. High quality sartorial artisans. My first business with them was somewhere between 1 and 2 weeks before my wedding that I couldn't prepare for. I had just one suit with me at the time, and this one was too tight. I made an appointment and met with Lisa at the front desk who is very pleasant. I waited for the gentleman tailor Marco who asked made plans for my suit to make it comfortable on me and wedding-ready. He modernized the sleeves by fitting them more closely to my arms and gave me functional buttons. He widened the jacket and the pants. I felt great and I was proud to wear my suit on my wedding. I was so impressed by the work and attitude of Art's people that I knew I needed to commission a bespoke suit. When I came for my appointment, I met with Art. He showed me fabrics and linings, we discussed styles, and he took my measurements. I decided to go with 6 of his fine shirts to get the 7th free one. I really enjoy the fact that Art takes his work seriously, and he's very passionate. The man is an artist. The inside of the suit he made for me, is just a joy to look at. He paid attention to the part of the suit no one but I will see, and I think that says a lot. The construction of the pants, something I didn't know people think about, was very well thought out. The belt loops are elegantly integrated in the waistband and it makes everything look clean. The shirts he made are simply a joy to wear. They fit perfectly, they fit great, and I feel great.
