It's my third week at Artemis BJJ in Temecula--about seven mat hours in--and I'm already confident in making an accurate review. I'm quite a few years over 50, and this is my fourth academy attempt in the last ten years. By happenstance, I saw their recent month-to-month Facebook promotion and jumped on it, especially when I found out we could wear any gi we wanted. The culture here is the right fit for me. The other academies I tried just were not the right fit, but Artemis feels different. The academy culture is amazing, and it is obvious that it is driven from the top down. The environment is fun, relaxed, professional, and welcoming--without losing the seriousness and discipline needed to actually learn. What also stands out is how inclusive the academy feels. That seems to be the culture of the students Artemis attracts: respectful, welcoming, and supportive of people from all different backgrounds and experience levels. If you want to learn BJJ in a fun and relaxed but professional environment, this is your place. Even if you are a grappling arts beginner later in life, Artemis is the perfect instructional environment. It really is a great fit for almost anyone. The techniques are taught in such a clear and practical way that you start picking them up quickly, and each week's lessons seem to review, reinforce, and build upon what was taught before. Another major plus is that the grappling sessions at the end of class are much more practical for my goals because students start from the standing position. Other academies I attended did not allow that, and for what I am looking for, that just was not practical. Artemis is perfect because you can train with different goals in mind. If you want to focus on sport BJJ and competition, you can do that. If you want to focus more on combatives and self-defense, you can approach your training that way as well. If you have a youth wrestling background, this is your place. Professor Leavy does an exceptional job bridging the gap between wrestling and BJJ. He teaches in a way that is simple, precise, and easy to understand. He is very easy to learn from, and he is clearly a natural teacher. If you have prior combatives training, Professor Leavy is also excellent at bridging basic wrestling and combatives into BJJ in a seamless way that feels natural to the body. I take Professor Leavy's classes because they fit perfectly with my schedule, but every instructor I have seen at Artemis has been exceptional. The private lessons are absolutely worth it as well, and they are very reasonably priced for world-class instruction. The schedule at Artemis is also excellent. They offer 0600 classes, mid-morning classes, and evening classes, which makes it much easier for adults with busy lives to train consistently. I really like it here, and I hope life circumstances allow me to keep training at this academy. read more

Absolutely wonderful experience. The Instructors/coaches/professors are well rounded and very personable. Many, if not all, also have advanced degrees--mathematics, doctorates, eduction, etc. They are all very good teachers. The culture is laid back and supportive. I look forward to every class, I have logged about 28 classes, and I look forward to attending as many as I can. I generally take ELian, Eric, and Fred's classes. Dexter, the owner/operator is a great guy--he offers a very robust schedule, including mid-mornings where the classes are smaller, but make all the difference to the students who attend. So much fun. I can't recommend this Academy enough. Another attribute that makes this Academy wonderful is that it is not a franchise--so Dexter can run the school in the best interest of his student's preferences--such as no strict uniform requirement so students can express their individuality--that translates to inclusion. If you're looking for a martial arts academy in the Temecula Valley that trains jiu jitsu for both children and adults alike, this is a fantastic facility to highly consider. While my child has been training at Artemis for a little over a month now, we were basically sold by the end of the first trial day. Artemis is well-run, clean, offers a multitude of class offerings and times and is well connected to our local homeschool charter programs and community. We love that students receive hands-on guidance and training of a boutique gym while being much more accessible. Coach Dexter is absolutely wonderful with the students, offering valuable and constructive feedback, encouragement and positive motivation. Students are taught the importance of principles such as self-discipline, respect, teamwork, tenacity and so much more. It is very evident that the students collectively exhibit amazing skills through practice and training but perhaps more importantly, they all seem to truly love and enjoy their time in class and cannot wait to return. I went in today for a free trial class and it was great. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. They took the time to show me some basics and fundamentals. This was much different than another bjj gym I had tried a few weeks ago where there was no instruction and they just threw me in there and I ended up getting injured. Atos is awesome and I will definitely be going back and signing up full time. 10/10 recommend. read more

My husband and 14 year old son started Fight Sports Club back in July of 2022. We picked Fight Sports Club strictly because it was close to our home. This was a huge blessing in disguise. The main reason we wanted to enroll our son was because he is diagnosed with ADD. We wanted something that would get him off prescription medication, help him mentally and physically. Since July 2022 to January 2023 I can't even begin to tell you how much he has changed for the better. His confidence is through the roof. He has a routine. He can control his focus on his own and no longer takes his ADD medication. He has a sense of belonging because the coaches at Fight Sports make him feel as if he is their family. When he received his second stripe he looked me in my eyes and said,"I'm so happy. I'm trying really hard not to cry." As a parent, that hits the heart. We have now enrolled 2 of our other children in Fight Sports because it is such an amazing outlet. My husband and 3 sons absolutely love this place. From the coaches to the members...the families. We love everything about this place - from the facility down to the family like atmosphere. The facility is very clean, customer service is the best, the coaches are amazing with kids, and everyone makes you feel like family. In the short time we have been here, my son has learned a lot. I can see his confidence and skills build. The coaches really take the time with every student to teach proper movement. But, not only do they teach Jiu Jitsu, but they also instill responsibility, respect, and good sportsmanship into the kids. Can't say enough great things about this place. My wife and I took our kids in on a whim last October. They were instantly hooked. They'd go every single day if our life/work schedules would permit it. Everybody involved with FSC from the owners to the professors are genuinely great people who are passionate about BJJ and make it fun to train and learn. After watching my kids for a couple weeks, I even enrolled. I've trained in other styles before but never formally BJJ. So I started in their beginner classes which I recently completed. This is a great place run by a bunch of great people. Very welcoming environment in a nice, clean facility. As a newbie wasn't made to feel intimidated, there are even several other 40 year old guys like myself trying to get after it, which is rad. The coaches are all very cool and more than willing to teach. The class sizes are relatively small which I like and the schedule is accommodating, and there is a 6am one which was ideal for me. This review is based on my experience after attending the club for 2 months. my son wanted to do it and has been consistently going every single day except Sunday and one weekend that we went away as a family (unlimited plan). it really feels very family orientated and the staff is very welcoming. I really appreciate the on the spot corrections, whether it is technique or behavior. This makes a difference off the mat as I have noticed a big improvement in my son's discipline and focus.
