I would like to recommend Artesana to anyone who hasn't tried it yet. Yesterday my husband and I stopped by for the first time and it was wonderful. The ice cream, which is all made in-house, was absolutely delicious! But beyond that, the menu is color-coded so those of us with a nut allergy can see immediately which flavors to avoid. Also color-coded are flavors that are gluten free and those that are vegan. In addition, they use separate scoops to avoid cross contamination. I was impressed with the variety of flavors and there were ample vegan options. Indeed, my banana split contained one sorbet, one non-dairy cream, and one conventional dairy ice cream. For the price, it was a monstrously sized dessert in today's economy, and I struggled to find room for any more meals thereafter. The peach sorbet hit a strong flavor note, and the non-dairy chocolate was smooth, but I could still tell the difference in complexity of flavor upon reaching the mint chip ice cream at the end. Stopped in right as the fireworks ended on the 4th and I'm glad we were there when we were, as we left the line was out the door! They were sold out of quite a few flavors but it was very busy that night. As soon as we walked in (around 10pm) we were greeted by the nice staff and they got our bowls out fast! Walked up at 7:40 20 minutes before closing. We could clearly see the open sign saying they was open and don't close till 8. We got the the door an seen the workers in there. Guess what they had the doors locked and wouldn't even look or way. So we turned to walk off and they ran to the light switches and turned them all off. Poor service of you ask me. read more

The girl was doing the best she could, but there was a family of four waiting on their ice cream when she took our order. Six more folks walked in after we ordered. Two waited and eventually ordered, but four left. The ice cream was good, but I was given the wrong kind. As it was in a sundae, I didn't realize it until I started to eat it. It's located in downtown Marion, which was pretty desolate on the Friday evening we stopped. Artesana was open, though. I ordered the two scoop cup with two different flavors - Banana Chocolate Chip and Dark Chocolate Habanero. Both were delicious, and both were BIG scoops. The banana flavor was very prevalent, and the dark chocolate was dark and creamy. The habanero gave the ice cream a little kick, but not too excessively. It's worth a try! read more

Superb ice cream. Great ice cream is about both flavor and texture. Artesana nails both. They amp the flavors up just enough that they are pronounced and distinct. This is critical since the cold dampens the taste buds. The real achievement here, however, is the texture. Fine ice crystal enhance the creaminess without washing out the flavors. Cheap ice cream does this with stabilizers and other additives. That's not the case here. Artesana makes excellent ice cream that is certainly the best in Marion and among the best I've ever had, since I consider myself an ice cream aficionado, this is high praise. Give it a try. They have several vegan options and they used honey to sweeten the ice cream instead of sugar! I think the honey makes the flavors even more defined - all of the ones we tried were amazing.
