We have visited Chimney Rock Village so many times over the last 15 years, but this was our first trip back after Helene wrecked the region. Village Scoop was always a favorite of John's, he could eat ice cream daily if given the opportunity. I actually was craving a scoop in a waffle cone and was excited to see one of my favorite- chocolate peanut- butter cup! John got an espresso caramel cone. An allergy friendly ice cream bar is hard to find and I'm happy to report our little friend with peanut/tree butter allergies was able to enjoy a treat here due to their precautions. They have a separate area and utensils to avoid cross contamination. In addition, the overall selection is extensive and the scoops are generous. I really enjoyed the ice cream + coffee! The best thing about Village Scoop? Because they use Hershey's generic and specialty ice cream flavors, they are almost always going to have something that fits every kind of person. With 60+ flavors, my kids were almost overwhelmed by the number of choices here. I wish the ice cream, for multi-scoop orders, was served in a cup piled side-by-side, instead of one on top of the other. In this format, you could eat a little of each flavor you asked for anytime. As it is, you have to eat through the first scoop to get to your next scoop; I'm becoming such an ice cream snob that our family noticed and prefers side-by-side. I am not usually one to visit ice cream shops, but Village scoop made me scream for ice cream. After watching tourists try ice cream at the Chimney rock attraction, I turned to Yelp to find out where I could get a REAL scoop of ice cream. Village scoop seems to capture the hearts of locals and tourists alike. From the moment I saw this place, I knew with over 60 flavors to choose from I would be able to find something I loved. They also advertised a free pup cup with any purchase, so my pup would get to join in on the fun! While he wasn't actually allowed inside, they had outdoor seating and a window you could order from. That was very much appreciated. Back to the ice cream itself. Wow. I have never had a scoop of ice cream I enjoyed so much. I opted for the caramel cheesecake crunk because it combined all the flavors I love , and it exceeded my expectation. It was creamy with chocolate chips all throughout, real chunks of cheesecake, and giant swirls of caramel. The flavors were bold but separate enough so I could actually taste them all. My boyfriends favorite flavor is cinnamon, which is usually an impossible find. This place knocked it out of the park with their cinnamon flavor! It was sweet but captured the spice of real cinnamon and included chunks of cinnamon buns as well. Also, in case you were wondering my pup Loki truly enjoyed his as well. They loaded his pup cup with peanut butter and topped it with whipped cream. Never have I seen such a pup cup made with love! The milk shake was super thick and hard to drink. But it was delicious! We got the bourbon butter ice cream with caramel- I don't remember the name of it but it was good. The outdoor ordering window was super convenient and there may who took our order was very friendly. It took a while for someone to walk over to us and take our order. I would suggest having someone stationed at that window or closer by so customers don't have to wait too long to be seen. Conveniently located in the village outside of chimney rock state park, it makes for a nice treat with great views. Lots of outside seating or you could walk the strip and enjoy it. read more

We got banana pudding ice cream and it was very delicious! We also got two hot chocolates that were for our boys and it was extremely hot. It took a while and still wasn't warm enough to drink so we had to add ice. I would just recommend them servicing the hot chocolate for the children maybe a little warmer. Cute place with a ton of options for flavors and sides. Even have coffee and drinks. Very limited seating outside and has some more outside. read more

The ice cream is fine, it's what you'd expect from a chain ice cream place. It's clean and all. BUT When we walked in and the lady (full grown adult, not teenager, who I assume owns the place) literally sighed when we walked in the door. The teen that what was working with her never smiled either. It was the saddest ice cream place I've ever been. We came here despite the poor reviews because other options were closed. It just felt like we were inconveniencing them, and no one wants to pay to feel like an inconvenience. Unfortunately, despite multiple reviews that customers consistently feel like an inconvenience this treatment continues. The ice cream was ok (commercially made Hershey) but both the interior and the staff could have used some help. The teenagers that were serving (3 in total) were not the friendliest bunch. They just seemed to be bored with the amount time it took us to decide what flavor ice creams we wanted (approx 5 minutes). It appears that they have stepped up their game from reading some of the other reviews. We went today after our hike at Chimney Rock. They do offer many flavors of Hershey's ice cream. There are plenty to chose and they have gluten free options also. The ice cream shop was clean and the "teenage" staff was very nice to us and very helpful. They all had smiles and we happy to help us choose our flavor. And had the line moving fast also. They also do accept more than cash now. We were able to use a card with no problem. We were excited to go for ice cream in Chimney Rock, and thought this looked like a cute place. Very disappointing. The teenagers working were not friendly at all. They acted as though they would rather be anywhere but there. We walked in, and they directed us to go the correct direction in line. Before we even had a chance to look at our options, the girl wanted to know what we wanted. She was very impatient, and never cracked a smile. When the kids forgot to ask for sprinkles originally, she rolled her eyes and added them. I would not return to this place. I have purchased ice cream from the business several times this year. However because of the horrible disposition of the 2 women working there this would have been my last time. They really seem to hate there job. I can understand that during the tourist season, it gets busy and people can be difficult at times. But One day I came in at a time when the business was empty. I said that I showed up at the right time. The girl behind the counter glared at me as if I was imposing on her. A fake smile would have been better then that. I almost turned around and left. I have never seen either of these girls smile or engage with there customers. Today however, I was amazed at the wonderful young lady working behind the counter. Before visiting Lake Lure with my family for Spring Break, I messaged this shop on Facebook to ask if they had safe ice cream for my daughter who has a peanut, tree nut and egg allergy. They messaged me back right away that they reserve a case of ice cream with completely nut free flavors and clean scoops. We had the same experience as the reviewers in August 2016. One year later, apparently the same bored, unfriendly, impatient teenagers still work there. The older of the employees (not a teen), who should have known better, barked at us to move along as our 2 year old was trying to decide on a flavor. The ice cream was great but with all of the rules posted all over the place regarding line direction, receipts, etc, we sat eating our ice cream in a state of paranoia.
