My husband and walked past it almost everyday before deciding to start taking lessons and I regret that we didn't start MUCH SOONER! If you have been thinking about trying out Ballroom, book classes with them now. The instructors are incredible! Every single one of them and the environment is supportive and we are learning ALOT! There are students of all ages and abilities which I LOVE! The teachers know how to get the best out of you no matter what your ability. The people I have met through the studio are so wonderful. My fiance and I were toying with the idea of taking dance lessons for our wedding in February so when she got the email about the free lesson she pounced on it like a hungry lion on a buffalo. We wanted to learn something more than just swaying side to side like how 80's movies portray how catholic school kids danced at their proms. No swag or flavor! Prior to our wedding, my wife and I were looking to choreograph our first dance. We got an online coupon for three 1-hour dance classes and decided to try out Arthur Murray. Parking is rough -- street parking if you can find it or paid lot. We managed to get a metered spot after hours. I am not an avid dancer, but the instructor was so talented and professional and taught us so much in that first hour. I was blown away by the level of talent and the teaching ability. It was fun for the hour ... until the "boss" came around to up-sell us. He came on so strong with an "offer" to teach us to dance for over $500 for approximately 3 private lessons and a rehearsal. The initial "offer" floored me and we asked for time to think about it. He plainly suggested that we just NOT DANCE at our own wedding because it would be HORRIBLE and he stepped away from the table. We were insulted. But rather than leave, we tried to smooth out the situation by asking our instructor for a single-lesson price. The "boss" yelled "170 DOLLARS" from across the room full of instructors and students. Our instructor was visibly embarrassed. Leaving that night, I never wanted to dance again, but my wife convinced me to complete our coupon and we came back for the other 2-hours which consisted of a consecutive group lesson and party/social hour. It was amazing and fun and every single instructor was able to help us learn a little more and enjoy our time there. The coupon was worth every penny. I appreciate every single instructor at Arthur Murray. They are talented, friendly, and patient. But something about the administration needs to change if they don't want to drive away potential students. read more

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I didn't come in with a coupon and I didn't find the pressure was as bad as they made it out to be... maybe there was a change of management. But either way, the studio is amazing and it really feels like a family when you are there. When you walk in, all the instructors great you and they are not at all like the snooty Beverly Hills type I expected. I've danced before, but ballroom is a whole new experience, it's a great work out and a great social atmosphere to be in. Sure it's more expensive than 24 Hour Fitness, but what do you expect? The teachers genuinely care about your progress and want you to learn how to dance. I've been dancing for a few years and just moved to California. I decided to dance more seriously and was looking for a dance studio to improve my dance technique. I've seen so many bad reviews of Arthur Murray Studio on several websites but decided to give a shot because I wanted to find a great dance studio for myself and their first lesson is free. I contacted them through their website and scheduled a free first lesson. I went there all the way from Southbay but they just told me they can't find any information about me in their computer and just reschedule it. ...Thank you so much Kent who was supposed to schedule my first lesson! I can't believe I wasted my time and $5 parking fee for nothing. I wouldn't mind investing money for dancing but this is stupid. Of course, I'm not coming back and they just lost a student. I guess I was lucky that I won't have a chance to be pushed to buy lesson packages. According to the receptionist, they only offer packages which include group classes, private lessons and social parties to students but not walk-ins. If you want to take their first free lesson, make sure you call them beforehand and see if they really scheduled it. And prepare yourself for sales talk! read more

The instructors are absolutely amazing. They know how to help and work with every age, body type and body size. I am a 6'4 caucasian male, and when I walked into the studio, I had very little rhythm and even less technique and coordination. After a shore 2 1/2 months, I'm not Fred Astaire yet, but I am smoother and more confident in my dancing ability. I owe it all to the instructors. I originally went in, wanting to learn swing and not really anything else. After one of their group parties though, I informed my instructor I wanted to learn everything that Arthur Murray has to offer. I'm still heavily into swing dancing, but I have also learned: Waltz, Rumba, Salsa, Cha Cha and Hustle to name a few. The instructors make it so much fun, you honestly do not believe you are learning, you're just having an absolutely great time dancing. The instructors are incredibly patient and understanding. They will go over a move multiple times with you until you have it. The only thing that could possibly be considered negative is the Parking. Street parking in Beverly Hills is atrochous at times, but the studio is less than a half block from an underground parking structure. Whether you are just starting to learn to dance or you want to learn how to Ballroom dance or you're looking for a way to exercise that is way more fun than the gym, I recommend Arthur Murray studios in Beverly Hills, the Staff and instructors are extremely warm and welcoming and it truly is a whole lot of fun. read more

We have had great experiences with all instructors and staff-- people who genuinely seem to care about you and your progress and truly love what they do. I felt inspired when talking to one of the instructors, who commented on how meaningful it was that people keep learning to dance. Even if you have zero experience in this area (or no rhythm), they will relentlessly bring out unique ways to help you get better. As a teacher I really appreciate this flexibility and individual attention. My fiancée (back then) and I took private lessons for our first dance here, and it was a blast! My husband and I had Jared Hansen as our instructor. He's just amazing! We were getting married at Disneyland, and our first dance song is a Disney song. Jared was assigned to teach us because of his vast experiences with Disney. We took first dance classes somewhere else before, it didn't work out. With Jared's patience and thoughtfulness, he was able to turn us C3PO dance robots into Cinderella and Prince Charming! Their group classes are super helpful! Some of our first dance moves were covered in the group classes, so they helped us improve on our first dance a lot! The group dance parties were very fun too, sometimes with dress-ups! We also took LaBlast fitness class with Willem on Saturday mornings. It was a great work out! They are nice and friendly people! My girlfriend and I signed up for couples classes in preparation for having a social life again, post- Covid. Neither of us knew much about tango, waltz or ballroom dancing, so we were a bit apprehensive. However, within minutes, our instructor Kate was asking us questions about what we hoped to accomplish with our classes, and made us feel very comfortable about trying out these dances. Kate was extremely patient with us, and quickly spotted exactly what we needed to work on. We were pleasantly surprised by how easy she made it for us to get each dance move right. By the end of two classes, we both felt we could actually waltz and tango in public without embarrassing ourselves! Our experience was horrible. We took the new student deal $59 for introduction classes. The first class was 30 mins with 10 mins teaching and 20 mins selling classes. Disappointed because we were in a short time learning first dance for our wedding. That class was just a waste of time. Every person at the studio goes out of their way to make sure that you're learning the most you can at the pace that is right for you. My instructor Tommy has made sure that I get the most out of each of my lessons, helping me be the best dancer I can be. True, ballroom dance is pricey, but you know that going into it if you've done any research regarding it. Plus, you do get a lot of value for the price of the lessons as long as you decide to put an effort in on your own part to learn. I had a terrible experience at this studio. I took lessons there for almost a year (2010/11), thinking that I would actually learn how to dance. The owner (manager) told me I was improving, but little did I know, I was not learning proper technique at all. The deal-breaking moment came when they brought in an outside coach in 2011 (who was very expensive to work with but I thought worth it). And she told me my feet were terrible and NOT BUILT FOR DANCING. She basically said I should give it up altogether. Either I was improving (and the owner was right, making the expensive coach a rip off) or the coach was right (making the owner a liar and just after my money). Either way, I take at the Dance Doctor now in Santa Monica, and it is a blast. Feels like a real family, the prices are better, there is no hard selling, and best of all, I don't get insulted and lied to. They basically had me "unlearn" all the basics I learned at Arthur Murray Beverly Hills and started teaching me real technique. From coaches and teachers who are supportive. I have been taking lessons from the Beverly Hills studio for over two years and it has been such a fantastic experience. My instructor Kent has done a miracle - he has taught me to dance. I have no experience dancing and now I can do most of the ballroom dances. It has totally surprised me. I was amazed that there were negative reviews. The Arthur Murray Dance Studio instructors are phenomenal. The instructors are incredibly well-trained and well-rounded. Each instructor understands the psychology and physicality behind the dances, and is able to teach even the most beginning dancer (me!) how to move. I take both private lessons and group classes.
