    Even my surfing has improved!

My balance was declining, I knew I had to work at it. I am working out and wake surfing... but I needed more. I have only been dancing for a few months, but I absolutely love it. Everyone knows your name, you walk in to a party where everyone loves you! I am so much stronger, my balance has improved immensely. Even my wake surfing has improved. Dancing is an amazing work out, mental and physical. Dante is amazing. My favorite time of the week! Who knew exercising could be so much fun!

    Costumes to get in character.

My youngest who's also in the dance competition team has grown so much, not just as a dancer but the studio has taught her discipline, teamwork and self-confidence. The teachers are amazing and you can tell they love teaching their passion in dancing. Miss. Sabrina, the Jazz teacher is the best, she's always encouraging, supporting and very patient with new dance moves. She pushes her dance team to their fullest potential. We also love Miss. Tajah, Hip Hop teacher, she has the dance energy the dancers feed off of. Everyone in her class always have so much fun. Miss Juju and Teacher AJay- challenges the dancers with fun and unique dance techniques/choreographies. Come check out some the teachers' choreography awards at the studio! And last but not least, Mrs. Margie, the director - throughout the years since we've been there, we've experienced her dedication and commitment to her dancers and the studio. You truly see a dance family growing at JOSDS. Mrs. Margie build special bonds and relationships with her dancers from the start. There are dancers who's been dancing with the studio since they were young dancers and are now older doing dance competitions and are in advance classes. I love seeing my two dancers enjoying and looking forward to their dance classes every week. I definitely see their growth throughout the dance session. So no doubt, I would recommend JuJu OnStage Dance Studio! Go JOSDS!!!

We were blessed to find Pacific Ballet and Suzanne welcomed us with open arms! Suzanne has such passion for dance and knows her stuff. She's trained many dancers who have gone on to professional careers and that's mostly what attracted us to this studio. What I love most about Suzanne is while she is very serious about ballet, she has a heart of gold and the best sense of humor! She makes dance fun for my daughter yet at the same time she knows when to tell my daughter to "suck it up" and keep her head held high. Suzanne has wiped tears from my daughter's face when she gets frustrated, she has wildly clapped and hugged my daughter when she perfects her technique...she has been nothing but encouraging, support and loving. If you have a dancer who is serious and passionate about dance technique, this is the place to be. And not just classical ballet but she also offers hip hop workshops, contemporary dance, barre and conditioning and strength classes. We are very happy here and I foresee a wonderful future for my daughter at this studio.

The shows are always incredibly unbelievable and impressive to be part of the audience. Our story -- We were looking for a Hip Hop dance class for our 5 year old, and this place was referred to us by a friend. Our first season, we were new to the "dance world" and a lot of learning but find it enjoyable for our son who love to dance. It really showed his joy in dance. Fast forward to us staying another couple of seasons, our son is now 7 year old and our other son who is 8 also expressed that he wanted to join, so we had him join too! It was a great experience for both of them to experience together in which they will remember forever. They both showed their personality at the show which was also encouraged by Mr.Cruz. To add, I had the experience to volunteer in the backstage multiple times in the show. I could not be more impressed on how the backstage was run by Mr.Cruz. I heard encouraging words and really showed his passion to put on a great show to showcase the talent the he believed these performers have. I have expressed feedback to him, and he respected them and made changes when necessary. We thank Mr.Cruz for his passion in dance and for being part of the Brentwood community.

The performances may look polished on stage, but behind the scenes our experience ended in a way that broke my daughter's heart. Our family had been part of this dance studio for two years. My daughter loved dancing there, enjoyed the performances, and genuinely cared about the friendships she made. Unfortunately, our overall experience became increasingly stressful and ultimately traumatized two innocent kids. Communication at this studio was overwhelming and often unprofessional. The owner relied heavily on the BAND app and posted extremely long messages almost daily. Important information became buried under endless posts, making it difficult for busy working parents to keep up. If a parent asked a simple question, instead of giving a direct answer, screenshots of old posts would be sent back with red circles highlighting information. If responses were not immediate (even during work hours or overnight) follow-up messages would quickly appear asking why nobody had replied yet. There was also constant pressure to spend additional money beyond tuition. Between bonding events, merchandise, photos, private lessons for missed classes, food sales, hundred dollar bags, accessories, and other add-ons, it often felt like upselling never stopped. Despite working full time and later caring for sick grandparents, we always made sure our daughter attended class, practiced at home, participated in performances, paid tuition, supported fundraisers, and additional bonding events. Other dance parents helped us with carpooling during difficult family circumstances. Over time, small misunderstandings seemed to become personal issues with the owner. One example involved dance photos. I chose not to purchase a very expensive photo package sight unseen, but later viewed another parent's purchased photos to see the quality for future years. This resulted in angry phone calls accusing us of trying to "steal" photos, even though we were simply viewing a package that had already been purchased by another family. The situation became much worse after another family (close friends of ours) had a disagreement with the owner. Their son was suddenly removed from the studio. His mother later emailed asking if he could attend one final class simply to say goodbye to his friends and teachers. Because the kids normally carpooled together, he arrived at class with my daughter. Instead of handling the situation privately or compassionately, the child was turned away at the door and left waiting outside alone for a ride home. While this was happening, messages from the owner began appearing on my iPad questioning why he had been brought there. The child saw those messages himself while riding home. Before I even had the opportunity to respond after getting off work, the owner removed my daughter from the studio as well. Hours earlier, she had danced with everyone like normal. She was blindsided and devastated, crying for hours and not understanding how adults she trusted could suddenly cut her off without warning. No child should be placed in the middle of adult conflicts this way. Regardless of disagreements between parents and studio management, the children deserved kindness, professionalism, and compassion. Hours earlier she had been dancing, laughing, and participating like everything was normal. Then suddenly she was discarded. My daughter cried for hours. She could not understand how adults she trusted could smile at her one minute and remove her from everything the next. No conversation. No compassion. No chance to say goodbye to her teammates. Just gone. No child deserves to be put in the middle of adult conflict this way. I understand businesses have rules and boundaries, but there is a humane way to handle situations involving children. What happened to these kids was emotionally damaging and completely unnecessary. Parents considering this studio should understand that communication style, expectations, and conflict handling before committing financially and emotionally to an owner that does not ultimately have your child's best interest in mind.

They stretched, did a few ballet moves (1st, 2nd, 3rd positions and Demi-pliés) and then danced in semi-silly, and semi ballet-like ways. It was adorable! The only thing that surprised me was that the dancers are separated from the parents during class. There is a large window where you can watch, but my child is a little clingy so it was an issue. Luckily, they allowed me to remain in the dance area for her comfort, which I appreciated. Then about halfway through, she needed to go potty. Afterwards, I was able to send her in with the other dancers alone. The parent area is HUGE! There are toys to play with, lots of (comfortable) places to sit, and even cold water and soda on sale ($1.00 each). Also, there are Ballet shoes available to borrow for free if you aren't ready to buy your own, or if your dancer forgot yours. The building doesn't look like much from the outside, but I was super happy with what I found inside. Oh! My $10 trial class fee? It was applied 100% to her first month tuition. ($50) Also, my daughter has a physical disability, and wears a brace on one leg. They didn't even bat an eye. Just asked me about what her limitations were. Highly, highly recommend!

Recitals are great and all the time that the teachers spend prepping your kids for it is really special. Overall it's a very challenging and positive atmosphere as all the teachers push you to do your best and to give your all. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new studio in the area.

Would we have continued coming here for 12 years if it wasn't so? During that time I've started dancing too. My sons even dance once in a while. This halau is like family and you are treated that way the moment you walk through the door. It has been great seeing my kids grow up with all their halau sisters and brothers. The wonderful ladies I dance with have all become my sisters as well. Kumu Renee is a more than qualified Kumu Hula (hula instructor). Certified at that! Not many Kumu out there are. She was taught by one of the best and it shows in her dedication to her dancers. She does not teach you simply how to dance, but you are taught the history, the culture and the language so you can dance educated. There are a lot of people out there who are taught how to dance but not taught the meaning. Hula and Tahitian dancing tells a story with every step, every sway or hand movement and she teaches us that. It's more important than learning the dance itself. Kumu Renee is very proud of her students and she encourages them through every stage of developing into the best dancer they can be. This halau is a performing halau. They do shows all of the time, for many occasions. But they also dance competitively. If you find yourself stopping by the halau you can see the many awards won in previous years. There are separate classes for the little kids, I believe the youngest dancer is 3! Then there are beginner classes, intermediate and advanced classes too. So it doesn't matter what skill level you are at, you can join. When my daughter first started here she had zero experience. After a while of course she improved and never looked back. It was one of the best decisions I've made to bring her here all those years ago. I'd do it again in a heart beat.

My son is autistic, and like any parent, I'm doing everything I can to help him feel included and comfortable in the world. Before starting, I made the staff aware of his needs. Instead of patience or understanding, what we experienced was the complete opposite. The instructors displayed unprofessional and hurtful behavior--making uncomfortable looks, using hand gestures to signal him to go away, and essentially excluding him rather than supporting him. No child should ever be made to feel like they don't belong--especially in a place that's supposed to encourage growth and confidence. Watching this happen to my son was devastating. I understand that not every instructor is trained to work with children who have different needs--but that is exactly why proper training and awareness are so important. If you're going to work with young children, compassion, patience, and inclusivity should be the baseline. I share this so other parents are aware. Every child deserves kindness, respect, and a chance to participate without judgment. I hope this business takes this seriously and invests in educating their staff so no other child or parent has to go through this.
