Not surprised to hear they finally closed. Unfortunately, I only remember the bad experiences I had there. Got a bad vibe from the place. Guy asked me my age when I tried to buy my first bong (these days it's okay to use that term), and I lied because I was underage. Then he asks my birthdate, and I get the year wrong. He's good at math and realizes I'm lying. DENIED! Had to have my mother go in for me and buy the bong. After that first experience, I never liked the place. It was easier to buy weed (another term that's fine to use nowadays) than it was to buy from there. Also, like many other people noticed, they were expensive. With the environment around marijuana these days and remembering my experiences there, their policies and attitudes seem even stupider. But I do understand why they had to be that way after reading the news article about their closing and the busts. For me, it was a place to avoid if possible. Good riddance! read more

The staff is always friendly and greet you when you walk in. They will help you with anything you need and if you are new to smoking you can ask them questions and they will answer them. Oh Artifax, you will forever hold a very special place in my heart for this is where I met the first guy I every loved. I was so young (and looked so much older), he was working behind the counter with his deep voice and long blonde hair. We still remained friends after 20 plus years and stepping back here would surely bring back all of these amazing memories!! In fact, I think I'm going to stop by soon! The next time he's in from Hawaii maybe we'll have to meet up here just for kicks :) The patchouli smell and perusing the carefully selected goods placed in this tiny shop across from Roosevelt Mall would be so nostalgic! This review is probably useless to those who vape or use e-cigarettes as I know nothing about that and am strictly writing this for selfish reasons. Anyway, I used to come here for patches, tie dyes, all things Dead and Nag Champa. Ok, and maybe a few other pretty glass items way back when. This was THE hot spot back in the day and and I'm glad to see it remains so even as the neighborhood has changed. If I still purchased these items I would absolutely make the trip up here and recommend if you need anything similar, you do so too! The prices were always fair and the quality, excellent. There's no other place to go, really. I promise. So glad to see Mindy and Larry still work here decades later. They were always the sweetest! I don't know where to begin. The best way for me to describe customer service is to say it was a LOT of fun. Customer service began before I actually went to the store. I spoke on the phone with Samantha the day before. She made me WANT to come to Artifax. The fact that she didn't rush me off the phone like I was holding up her day was a huge plus. I went there for the first time on 8/10/13. The place was packed with people and no one seemed to be in a hurry to leave. The atmosphere makes you want to stay and check out everything. This is where Alex & Joe come in. Vaping is new to them. They are NOT dummies by any stretch of the imagination but don't expect them to know everything there is to know about vaping. I can say they did their VERY best and there were things we were learning together. These guys are AWESOME! I had to go back the next day because I majorly screwed up some of my purchases. Based on my mistake I was able to show them what I did and they would be able to show customers who bought the same item what they need to do before they start vaping with it. Today I spoke with Mindy. I don't know how many people actually work there but Mindy was also a breath of fresh air. Lastly and also very important, they have samples of eVo eLiquid. For those who vape eVo this is GREAT!!!! eVo makes some ridiculously delicious juices. Currently I'm hitting Tangerine Swirl. It taste like tangerines and creamy vanilla and it is GOOD! eVo is a U.S.A. company and for many vapors this matters a lot. I'm completely delighted to have a B&M store I can go in and buy from rather than waiting on the mail. Here's my hope that Artifax will carry all the eVo juices and also in 30ml. eVo doesn't have their own page (http://www.nicopure.com/) functional yet. It says coming soon for those who'd rather buy online. Of the various smoke shops I've been to through years in, and around Philly, Artifax has set the standard! I dont know how to describe customer service other than it's like you're talking to very knowledgeable friends. Even when its packed front to back, which is pretty much the norm, you are always taken care of exceptionally. I've never felt unacknowledged, rushed, or unappreciated no matter how small or large my purchase. If I was forced to find a con, it would be the parking situation. Since I'm not handicapped, elderly, or lazy, and there's a huge parking lot across the street, its hard to even complain about. I recommend them to any, and everyone of age. And if you know anything about the history of the business, you'd be proud to support such a positive and thriving establishment. Keep up the great work! read more

Wow where do i start Artifax has it all and if they dont they will get it for you. I got the Wismec RX200 mod there i got it so cheap i also got the Griffin there they are very frenfly. They have a pretty extensive juice bar to so many flavors it's ridiculous love it there not to mention they've been serving philly since the mid 1970s there not any shops that been around that long love it!!!!! read more

I have been to my fair share of stores like this over the years and have never had an experience as horrible as I had when I visited artifax. As several other reviews have pointed out, the prices are incredibly inflated compared to any other shop I've been to and offensive compared to online retailers. Additionally, when the person I was with asked for "a grinder" and the clerk responded by asking "what kind, we have several," she responded by saying "one with a keef catcher." We were immediately told that neither of us would be allowed to purchase anything till the next day. I was shocked and after picking my jaw up off the floor asked if this was a law since I have never had an experience like this before, particularly since I didn't say anything. They responded by saying it was not law, but rather a store policy. Every other store I've been to has said something along the lines of, "sorry man, we don't sell keef catchers here. However, we do have these pollen catchers!" Anyway, be sure that everyone in your party asks what terminology you're allowed to use before you say a word. This store policy is absolutely ridiculous and way more strict than any other store I've been to. If the prices were better, I may have considered coming back. Unfortunately, this store will never be getting my business or the business of anyone I know ever again. read more

I walked into Artifax with a limited knowledge of what I wanted or needed, and walked out with a dry herb vape pen that I love more than most human babies. Quite literally the best thing that's ever happened to me. I asked about the snoop dogg dry herb vape pen since that seems to be the most popular one on the market. However the awesomely knowledgeable and friendly sales guy led me to my vape pen soul mate. He took the time to show me how to use it and clean it out. I went to a party that night and took my vape pen on its maiden voyage and extolled all partygoers with the story of my fabulous shopping experience at Artifax, and of course my new favorite device ever. I went and made a few purchases last week. Got three pipes. One of them after checking it out I wasn't happy with it. I called and they said as long as it wasn't used I could get a store credit. I went back tonight and Artifax gave me a store credit and I Got one much better for me. Nice art things are expensive. I do so enjoy them though. Hate breaking them. Like losing a friend really. Such is life. Guess way to look at it is brings the chance to find new art. Yeah. Glass and my dropping it has led to some tears shed. The Staff I dealt with every time were very good and did their best to assist me. Totally recommend this store. PA isn't the best place to be far as certain things but Artifax is good! I liked the staff. Wish they had more stock but they have a lot more nice things than I have money to spend on so they are well stocked with nice things. So yeah. So I initially went in here looking for more shisha for my hookah and a hose. They had plenty of shisha in varying flavors and quality but they only had one hose for sale and it couldn't fit my hookah. The workers were very friendly and helpful. At the last minute I decided to actually buy a hookah because they had a lot that were a a good price. I get back to my car and check the contents of my new hookah only to discover the bowl was missing. I took it back inside and they confirmed it was missing and gave me a new package. The one I wanted was a taller one and I asked the worker if she was sure this was it and she said yes once I put it together it'll be bigger. I get home only to discover they gave me the smaller hookah but charged me for the bigger one. I took it back a week later and with no fuss they gave me the correct one. I will say customer service was excellent, but these two mistakes are why I'm giving 3 stars. read more

This establishment was opened a year after being deployed overseas for 2 1/2 years. I noticed it when I was playing pool at the Cue And Cushion that was in the mall across the street and stopped in. It was amazing then, the best selection north of Samson street and still is. The variety runs the full range of smoking accessories and if they don't have it they will either locate it or send you there. As for parking, there's a whole mall across the street with a huge parking lot, you just have to cross Cottman ave ( good luck with that). I no longer live in the city but this is a store I still make a trip just to see this store. Just walking in the door takes me back over 35 years. read more

The selection is great, the staff is knowledgeable, and the prices are literally hundreds less than other places in Philly. I came into Artifax not really looking for any one piece in particular and the clerk who assisted me, Larry, took the time to help me whittle down my options from their extensive collection. I have been going to artifax for over 30 years , I will never return to this store again , I was charged 75 dollars for a box of papers that 3months ago was 54 , I was willing to pay extra just because I like the two owners who I have come to know since they first started working there before they brought it , you can get the same box of papers on ebay or amazon for 35 dollars which I will now be doing moving forward , when I questioned the increase the kid told me that the new 8% tax was the reason , he obviously is not a math major , they just lost a long time loyal customer read more

I'm happy to give this place my business. The customer service is exceptional, they help you right away and can answer all your questions. I bought an e-go twist e cig from here and the tank it came with broke within the first night of having it. I went back the next day, and they added credit from the original tank to upgrade to a new one. That tank ended up breaking as well and, again, they added the credit and threw in a replacement tank that the model originally came with so I could have an extra tank for my other flavors. It was a pleasant surprise. They've got all kinds of pieces and the atmosphere is welcoming. If you're looking to get into the e cig trend, definitely go to them. I recently went here before Christmas and was very pleased. The staff was very helpful and .very nice. The only complaint I would have is , I was being helped and had about $100 of stuff I was about to buy when another customer came in and they stopped helping me. I actually wanted to look at some other things and possibly purchase more but I was ignored for about 10 minutes. Finally the man started ringing everything up, so I just paid and left.
