I was helped by a very knowledgeable gentleman, he was tall and had tattoos on his right arm. He offered several suggestion that were spot on with what I was looking for. The inventory there seemed endless and I took advantage of the buy four get one free special. Why the one star review? Well, that is because of how we were treated by the short fat man when we entered the store. It was very hot and humid outside and the mask mandate is in full effect. When the door closed behind us, I removed my mask and was immediately barked at by the short fat man. He said, "The mask has to stay on when you are in the store". I replied that I'm just repositioning it, it's very hot outside. "If you want to do that, you can go back outside" was his response. The short fat man was not close to us, he was actually halfway across the room and saying all this with an elevated tone to his voice, as if I was a vagrant begging patrons for change. It was a very unpleasant exchange and left me feeling berated and wanting to leave, my addiction won over though. I understand the importance of complying with a state mandate in order to remain open, but, customer service is still important and treating people with the respect they deserve is equally important. I received a Holts Catalog in the mail, most likely from where my son ordered me cigars and an ash tray for Christmas last year. They had a good deal on a Pick 3 on 5-Packs and a good selection to choose from. Free Shipping would have been nice, but I was ok with paying because the cigar price was good. It took 8 Days to get my Cigars. No Boveda Packs and only 1 set of 5 was in a ziplock bag. I'm hoping they didn't get too damaged being out of a humidor so long. I won't order from them again. If they are going to use slow shipping, at least include a Boveda Pack. No reply to my email to them about this issue yet. read more

Holt's is a "must-visit" every time I'm in Philly. I always find something really good, and usually find something that I can't find anywhere else. I am the type that will only buy cigars that I already know I like, or that are rated 90 and above by Cigar Aficionado. (I know their ratings are not always perfect, but it's the best system I've found so far.) I generally do NOT take the advice of cigar salesmen, as tastes can be so different. I also shop online at Holt's when I'm back home in New York. I check the website periodically, and have often found cigars that were sold out everywhere else. Holt's has truly made a friend when that happens! When you go into the store in downtown Philly, DO NOT deprive yourself of a trip upstairs to the cigar bar. I love this place. I've been there numerous times and each time I've been met with courteous, respectful, and knowledgeable staff. A lot of places have arrogant cigar snobs who make you feel stupid, but these guys are polite, sincere, and happy to help with any of your questions, no matter how dumb they are. A salesperson introduced me to a new cigar (an Ashton maduro), and it was perfect - you could tell that the walk-in humidor was meticulously set. The prices were actually better than what I expected. The greatest cigar place I have ever been to. The staff is warm and inviting, and the selection is awesome. Rare Opus X/Arturo Fuente among many other delicious brands. They are also a distributor for Ashton (and possibly Fuente) so you can get all of these cigars without the premium attached. I bought a humidor and an ashtray is well and the price was completely fair, but the customer service was absolutely possibly more outstanding if that's possible. "Anthony" the manager is a gentleman and a really nice dude, you can just tell, he seems to be very well-liked by everyone as the charismatic helmsman. The other "Anthony" ,with the beard who does not go by "Tony" (that's a different Anthony), gave me incredible customer service as well as phenomenal advice on cigars and humidor's, both of which I purchased. As somebody who is just learning about these matters (cigars), I left feeling a bit more informed and "Anthony" (not the manager/had a beard) made it way less intimidating. Had a great time Friday night puffing away in the lounge at Holt's. While by no means a cigar aficianado, I do enjoy a stogie once in awhile. The Padrone 45 madura I puffed last night was superb and a nice cap to a long week. The Padrone event last night also featured free spirits and beer, and a couple scotch's with the cigar really brought me to my happy place. The store is well stocked and staffed with professionals who know their stuff. Be ye noob or seasoned pro they will guide you to the right cigar at your price point. And the best part is, you can smoke anywhere in the store. The lounge is not to be missed. Seating perhaps 20, almost exlusively middle aged men, all seated about enjoying their cigars in one of the few places left on earth to partake of this classic luxury. The fact that this lounge, tucked away in the back of the store, even exists is a testament to why women's suffrage maybe wasn't such a good idea. These men, these few, these happy few, this band of brothers...free from the shackles of domesticity...for he who lights and puffs shall be my brother. Lounge-lizarding never felt so good. read more

You can smoke or you can go outside and enjoy the highway view, but either way you'll come out satisfied with the service. They have a nice selection, its a two roomed place with accessories in front and humidor(s) in the back. Very reasonable prices for all. The manager was just a really nice guy, he's the kind of guy who wears a plaid tucked in longsleeve shirt with a pair of old jeans and has glasses and makes safe jokes and should be on the cover of Outdoor magazine with a pipe and a book and a rocking chair. Let me preface a bit here. I just bought a house built in 1880 that was last remodeled in 1965 in a completely harvest gold and orange motif and my step-father is a carpenter and loves a good cigar after he engages in such carpenting activities. So, I needed a gift for when the carpenting was done and went to the cigar store that I've gone to for a few years to indulge in some Nat Shermans... The staff is always so friendly and this time I was very thankful for their awesome service. So, I know what the box looks like for the cigars. That's it. The very nice lady walked me all around their humidor showing me yellow boxes and then almost 20 minutes helping me decipher the different sizes of cigars (there are apparently different lady names for the different length and girth combos) until we found the hopefully correct box. She then told me that if we didn't get it right that I could return the box and they would ship him the correct one (he lives in upstate NY)! They gave me a lighter with a discount (nice butane torch like thing), and even wrapped everything for free when I didn't even ask! To top everything off, the girl at the counter even suggested a place to go for lunch while we waited for her to finish the wrapping...what? what? Seriously. I love it there. Plus, they sell loose cigarette tobacco: Drum, american spirit, and bunch of fancy-looking kinds. And it smells nice, since the cigar-smoking room is completely sealed off from the sales floor. Oh, ya, this is one of the few places left in town where you can smoke indoors. Werd. Phat. Bomb.
