I walked in unsure of what to do or who to talk to. Within seconds, people were directing me to go to the line and get some free chili, and another person was trying to get me to take some free pastries. I wish this happened everywhere I went, but I digress. You can come here to get a free meal, apparently no questions asked, which is really cool. I didn't get any food, as I ate right before coming over, but I wish I had at least tried the food. A really good organization for anyone looking for a meal and resources for jobs, community events, ect... They have locations throughout Contra Costa County (Antioch, Oakley, Bay Point, Pittsburg, and the location I visited, Martinez). Be sure to stop by!

I came here for a community outreach project for school. We performed blood pressure screenings and education materials on high blood pressure and diabetes. 20 minutes before they opened there were at least 30 people in line waiting for the doors to open. They have volunteers serving the food and they provided all the eating utensils and clean up. The man in charge (Gary) was very friendly and has a wholesome heart. He was so kind to the people coming in. There were tables with lots of free food for them to take home, mostly bread. Overall this is a wonderful establishment for the community, they are doing great things. We need one of these in Vallejo.

The Boys and Girls Club of Martinez (aka Diablo Valley) is a "home away from home" and a positive place for for kids. It offers various programs including character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, and sports. My Site Manager and her husband have been personally involved with this very worthy organization for years. My company is also a long time supporter and many of my colleagues volunteer many hours of their own time (including some periodic food bank work). At one time many years ago, I served on their Board of Directors. However, I have had no direct involvement with the Boys and Girls Club of Martinez for several years. I just got busy with other charitable activities closer to home. The Boys and Girls Club of Martinez also organizes various fund-raising events throughout the year. These have included, a Crab Feed, the annual Auction, the Pete Ginocchio Memorial Golf Tournament, Power Lunch, and the Day for Kids. These events are not only enjoyable, but are attended by various interesting and very caring members of the greater Diablo Valley community.

This is one of the coolest car-related things I've ever done…read more The Cobra Experience (which is a non-profit) periodically has an event called "What's That Third Pedal For?" This event which happens bi-monthly provides an eclectic group of cars with a variety of transmissions to learn on. I had not driven a manual transmission car for at least 9 years (when I had parked a vintage Porsche 911 during a previous job - BOY that had a heavy clutch) and for $30.50 ($15.50 if you're between 15-20), this was an absolute no brainer! The cars provided today were a Nissan Pathfinder Northwest Edition, 2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z51 package, 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350 289 HiPo, and a Superformance Shelby Cobra reproduction - not just any reproduction but the one that was used on-screen in Ford Vs. Ferrari(!!!). The course is designed to have participants get the chance to drive each car around a designated area surrounding the museum for 2 laps after receiving an initial ride-along lap with the instructor beforehand and parking in the designated 'pit' area to swap seats. This included multiple stop/starts to practice clutch release, upshifting and downshifting. All the cars appeared to be well-cared for and the instructors were super patient and helpful. My goal for this was to see if I could get through it without stalling. Not only did I manage this goal even with the GT350 and Cobra having no power brakes/power steering and super-heavy clutches, but all 4 instructors gave me high marks. What an absolute treat, and on top of that they gave each participant schwag bags filled to the brim and even a poster! WOW! I highly recommend this event alone as if you are looking to practice stick-shift. It's a fantastic way to do so in a safe, controlled environment as well as potentially drive special cars as a bonus for a very reasonable price. I'll definitely go back to the museum soon for a visit. Thank you to everyone the Cobra Experience, this was AWESOME!

The manager (possibly owner?) is very hands-on and her hard work is evidenced by a space that's clean, wonderfully arranged, and appealing to shop in. As I overheard conversations happening around me, I picked up on a sense of community...sure enough, I have since learned that ReVibe is connected to vibetogether.org, whose goal is "to create a positive impact in our community by bridging mental health and the arts. Our mission is to empower individuals through support, emotional well-being, self-expression, and community healing." The main shop is so organized and thoughtfully laid out that it feels like a boutique. Adult apparel is in the primary room, with smaller rooms for accessories and kid's clothes, books, and toys. For now, housewares are in a separate room to the right of the main shop, but there are plans to eventually tear down the wall separating the two spaces to make one large shop. Before I even left ReVibe, I was already thinking about doing a big purge at home so that I could bring donations in soon. I'd rather drive all the way from San Francisco to Benicia to support this shop than take my things to Goodwill or Salvation Army. ReVibe deserves all the support we can give!
