The Mint Foam Cold Brew was delicious, it was well balanced with a nice mint flavor that was pretty unique. Similar to a Mint Mojito from Philz. The cold brew wasn't overly bitter or anything, but I did add a tad bit of simple syrup that is available at the counter inside. I will say though, it is 7.50 for just a 12 ounce, but it is a good 12 oz. The staff is friendly and I got my drink in within like 3 minutes of ordering. It's pretty spacious inside with plenty of seating. There are also cute decorations along with coffee products available. They also carry various coffee beans for purchase. I think I am most intrigued by the seasonal drinks and during this visit, I saw it was a Salted Foam Cold Brew and a Mint Foam Cold Brew. I believe there is little menu board inside on the wall behind the counter that displays the seasonal drinks, but I wish they had one by the register. Was also hoping for seasonal lattes since those are my go-to drinks, but the best way to find out is just to go in person and ask the staff. Definitely check this place out! read more

I think I've found my favorite local coffee shop to work at in Berkeley! My companion took us here for a remote day and all aspects made it the ideal working space. Industrial and minimalistic chic with the sound and smell of their fresh roasted coffee beans. Inside is quiet, spacious, and well-lit with tables for two and communal bar seating, plus seats outside. Most customers were working on their laptops like us, with free WiFi available and outlets. The baristas were all helpful and had our drinks out in a jiff. The menu is basic but well thought out and crafted. Traditional hot and cold coffee options, seasonal drinks, and a couple of teas. Housemade syrups and dairy alternatives are available. I don't care for coffee so had a Small Maple Spice Chai Latte with Oat Milk. I loved the creaminess, light sweetness, and prevalent spice of the chai. I'd come again to add their other housemade syrups to other drinks. Companion had a Drip and said it was smooth, well brewed, and not too bitter. Artís Coffee will be on my rotation for a place where I can study and work near my home. The clean open space, knowledgeable baristas, and quality drinks are great. There's metered parking and paid lots on Fourth Street but free parking in the surrounding neighborhood. read more

I hate to leave bad reviews but my experience here just really felt flat. I saw the employees being really nice and friendly to people, asking about their instruments and even knew their names. When I ordered, I heard the barista say they hadn't taken their break yet and maybe that's why they might have been in a little bit of a fouler mood? But while ordering I inquired about their syrups because I believe their menu said something about syrup as an add-on, and the answer I got was "Whatever is behind me is all I have." Then why have syrup as an add on? I didn't throw a fit but the coffee tasted like the milk was bad, which solidified the bad experience. Of all the places that I visited in Berkeley (all the 4 coffee shops) I found Artis to be the most welcoming. The coffee was great, I had an iced americano in a really nice glass. Felt great in my hand. The vibe was great. I sat outside because it was so busy inside, but it wasn't wall to wall seats like some other places in town. It's just popular. Cute cafe in the 4th street area of Berkeley! Sunday afternoon there was plenty of parking about a block away (4th and Cedar or Virginia). The parking right in front of the cafe is metered. Such beautiful modern aesthetics. Lots of people camped out here working in their laptops. There's some indoor seating and a hightop bench on the front patio. I ordered a matcha latte. It came with cute coffee art (heart shaped milk poured). It was also filled to the very top. I had to take a sip before walking with it. The matcha latte was not very sweet. But it was good. They have seasonal drinks as well. Google listed them as having juice but they didn't have any when I went. I didn't try any of the pastries. But I saw they have a little section of pastries made by locals to benefit Ukraine. They also sell chocolate, bags of coffee, books, and brewing accessories. Really Enjoyed my honey lavender latte and purple mochi iced donut at Artis on a rainy day -- service was great and considering the number of people in front of me (6 or 7), did not take long for the order. We didn't get to order drinks during our recent visit but we ordered donut, croissant with Nutella and mushroom empanada. Least we liked was the mushroom empanada. It was clean and simple. I loved the mochi donut. It's not the usual light and airy mochi donut; it's heavy and thick. The croissant is crunchy and buttery. So good! Place was clean. Visited Artis during the Fourth Street parade event. I was looking for an independent coffee shop within this beautiful shopping district, and this one had an interesting menu that made me want to drop in. Very spacious interior with many individuals having coffee meet-ups or doing work on their devices. The menu seems to rotate a few seasonal flavors. The coffees you receive are smaller than what you would traditionally receive at a Peet's or Sbux for the same price. My partner got the butter toffee cappuccino, and commented that the taste was subtle among the high quality bean but present, but the highlight was that the drink kept her awake throughout the night. I got a cold brew with the honey lavender syrup added - very tasty lavender flavor, but I had to add a splenda just to pull out the flavor more and get the sweetness to what I prefer. The staff were working very hard and quite friendly. Space is extremely clean and there is a single bathroom that carried a line when I arrived. I am curious to come back to try one of the delicious-looking piroshki in the window and see what the flavor rotation are. read more

The latte art was a nice touch! However, the mocha tasted like dirt! Not sure if they used 100% cacao or 100% dark chocolate, but it was bitter and awful. I am a dark chocolate fan myself, however this lacked any semblance of a normal mocha. Not sure how the other lattes taste, but if you come here I would advise against getting their mocha. read more

4+ located in the nice shopping area on Fourth Street in Berkeley, this place serves both as a nice place to fuel up on caffeine before exploring the area or as a place to lounge and study or do work. One of my favorite coworking/remote working spots when I used to be a UC Berkeley student & still a favorite whenever I visit Berkeley! I really enjoy the location in West Berkeley and how far away from campus it is. It can be pretty crowded & hard to find a seat all day since people tend to stay and work a while. A good amount of indoor & outdoor seating with good Wi-Fi, some outlets, and a clean bathroom. They also sell a wide variety of coffee/tea accessories! I am not too knowledgeable about coffee but I do enjoy the flavored lattes as well as the seasonal drinks. While there's no shortage of unique coffee shops in Berkeley, I decided to try Artis coffee based on a recommendation from my parents. Located right in the heart of the bustling 4th Street neighborhood, Artis Coffee is an ideal pit stop while browsing the shops. It's been awhile since my last visit to this cafe in Berkeley since moving to the South Bay. Very spacious with tables inside and out. The coffee and mushroom piroshky was nothing great but nothing really bad. Maybe, it was the mediocre service that made it just OK. Or, maybe it was because I have had better piroshky at the famous Piroshky, Piroshky in Seattle's Pike Place Market. Usually when I try new spots, I like to get a cortado or flat white to get a more clear sense of their espresso. I couldn't resist the creativity of their specialty drinks though. Went for the "tahini mole mocha" - was really great. Much more subtle than I was expecting. Not sweet like I was nervous about - had a flavor of mostly natural ingredients vs pumps of syrup. Surprisingly not spicy either. The mocha component drives the flavor. I was happy that it was a flat white size as well (not as large as a latte). This is a really nice and spacious coffee spot! I came around noon on a Monday and it wasn't too crowded. Upon glancing at the menu, the one that immediately caught my eye was the cold brew milk tea. I've never seen or heard of something like that before, so I was super intrigued since I love both milk tea and cold brew. The drink is defaulted to come with oat milk which is great because it's what I'd prefer anyways. They also serve it with some orange peels on top, which later get mixed in. The drink itself was really good -- super smooth, not too bitter or sour, and the perfect level of sweetness. I'm not really sure where the milk tea part comes in though since I didn't taste it, but the drink was still good nonetheless. Artis is located toward the north end of the 4th street shopping area. There isn't a lot of extended (over 1 hour) free parking in area, so if you've got a car, you're likely going to need to pay for parking. The lot at 1608 4th St is just a block and a half from Artis and the parking is $1.50/hr. The shop itself has a lot of seating but most of it was taken when we stopped in around 11am. I can see this being a great place to do work - tons of natural light from the big front windows to the shop, lots of seating, etc - but suggest getting there early if that's your intention. As far as the drinks go, we tried an iced matcha latte with oat milk and an iced latte with oat milk. Both drinks were good, but not amazing, especially given the price (~$8/each with alt milk). They feature pastries from Firebrand Bakery, which looked amazing, but we weren't in the mood for any food. If your primary goal is to sit down and work and you care less about the quality of your drink, this is a perfect spot. However, if you're looking for a really great latte, you'll be disappointed. I suggest walking 10-15 mins south to CoRo - they not only roast their own beans, but the coffee (espresso and pour over) is amazing. read more

I tried the Butter Toffee Cappuccino and had a taste of the mocha. These drinks were wonderful. The Butter Toffee Cappuccino tasted quite literally like liquified toffee with espresso. It is quite sweet by default however, so keep that in mind if you aren't a fan of such things. The mocha was the opposite - it wasn't very sweet. Despite this, it had an extremely deep chocolate flavor, which might have been due to the fact that it was made with Dandelion chocolate.
