    Miso soup and salad
    Scott W.

Not a bad place but not necessarily a keeper for me. It helps there's parking nearby and the service is very good, as well as clean inside. The atmosphere is comfortable and a nice setting to go with someone. However the food is average tasting. The miso soup is like most restaurants so not standout. The salad was a little disappointing. The bowls have been sitting in a refrigerator for awhile, which is obvious because the lettuce has no crunch or crispness to it. And the dressing needs work. I ordered yakisoba and found it slightly on the sweet side, and had no ginger, which helps make yakisoba pop. My wife had the unidon, which she enjoyed (but I suspect not strongly), and my son had the poke bowl, which he said was ok, but not a keeper.

This place has the best variety of Japanese food and sushi in Clarendon. The combo deals are great and overall you get great quality and amount of food for a good price! It's a chill restaurant inside. It gets busy during lunch and dinner hours but otherwise it's quiet and relaxing and a great place for a sushi date.

    Asahi: worst cucumber roll Ever
    Bella J.

It is a mediocre place with okay food. 1. Reservation: unnecessary. I have walked passed them and been here couple times and they have a lot of tables available always 2. Food: 3 stars - Cucumber roll: the cucumber was soooo freaking thick, you can't even pick it up. (see picture), it is a roll, by definition, you should be able to pick it up with your chopstick.. nope. 1 star (in Old town Alexandria, most sushi places make amazing cucumber rolls) - dragon roll (something like that): 4 stars, rather decent - Tonkatsu: the soup is so watery, I wish they stop by the Chaplin's in DC to know what the soup should taste like 3. Service: 3 stars Okay we had 2 people helping us, 1 great and 1 horrible. She took my chopstick while I was eating my rolls!! She knew I had 2 more dishes coming up. I thought she would bring it back or give me a new one... nope. I had to ask for 1 from the other server, so I could actually eat. What kind of place confiscates one's eating utensils fully knowing I wasn't done and as a server who took my order, knowing I had more dishes coming??!! She didn't even apologize or simply address that she made a mistake or was too busy and slipped her mind, anything. Nope. 4. Ambience: comfortable. Could serve as a happy hour place for large groups and/or an intimate date night. Versatile design. 5. Drinks: mixed drinks like cocktails are not good. Stick to wine/beer.

    Shrimp teriyaki bento box

Asahi is one of my go-to lunch spots in the courthouse area. Their lunch specials cannot be beat. I typically get their chicken teriyaki or shrimp teriyaki lunch special bento box, which comes with rice, vegetable tempura, fried gyoza, vegetable sushi, miso soup, and salad. All of that for less than $20! It's always delicious and fresh. The service is great and the ambiance is nice. I can't recommend them enough. You won't regret dining here.

The presentation of the rolls are really nice! Most are served on their boards and plated well. We came for dinner on a Tuesday night and were seated right away. I ordered the tiger roll and pacific roll. Both were good but my favorite was the tiger roll. Loved the shrimp tempura and it was very flavorful and filling. The signature rolls come with 8 pieces each. Service was good and our food came out quickly after ordering. You also get complimentary miso soup and a house salad with your order. Overall a great sushi stop.

Outstanding food and service!! We were in town for an extended weekend popped in one evening for dinner! Absolutely love our time. Great place. Super clean. Chill vibe.

Yellowtail, Tuna, & Salmon sushi rolls

Ambiance was nice, but the restaurant was pretty empty when I went this past Tuesday evening. I can see why - this restaurant is pretty darn expensive. They have a few sushi roll combinations, and I opted on the cheapest combination - 3 simple sushi rolls (on lines 1-2 of the menu?) for $16.95. It included miso soup and house salad, at least! Both complimentary items were pretty standard. I enjoyed the salad dressing and the lettuce were pretty crisp and fresh. I got the yellowtail, tuna, and salmon sushi rolls. There wasn't a lot of fish in the amount of rice they gave, so I felt pretty ripped off. The salmon and yellowtail were pretty tasty! While the quality of the fish were good, I was not a fan of the price. After the meal, I still felt pretty hungry. You can definitely go elsewhere for cheaper sushi at the same quality, just saying.

Decent place for Japanese food! Their tempura and pork cutlet were tasty and filling for sure. It's in a convenient area too if you're in the court house area. Staff were attentive and nice.

This is our go to spot for sushi in Arlington. When we moved here we tried a few different places, and confirmed this is the best in the area! Whether we dine in or get take out, the food is always on point. Our favorite roll is the Sakura Roll! I love when we dine in too because it has a great vibe and you get miso soup and salad as part of the service.

I was pleasantly surprised by Asahi! We decided to stop in for dinner after seeing a movie on a Saturday evening. We were seated right away. The service was great! The waitress was very helpful, friendly and funny. She checked on us often and the other staff filled our drinks when they got low. We had the tonkotsu ramen and the 3 roll's combination. Each entree came with soup and salad which I thought was a great deal. Sushi was decent, maybe some of the best I've had in the area. Very fresh and flavorful! The ramen had a nice flavor, but I'd definitely recommend getting it spicy. It was a nice portion size too. I would recommend if you are in the area and have a craving for sushi!

Great food and a great atmosphere! I went here for the first time to try a new sushi place, and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and filling. We ordered the dinner special, and it was very affordable I will definitely be coming back here!

He walked me through the options and ordering was a breeze. The price point is a little higher than your average all you can eat dining experience, but well worth it. I must've had 15 pieces of nigiri. Having worked in a sushi restaurant I can tell you it was phenomenally well done. Beautifully fresh and buttery and the sushi rice was perfect. The eel kamameshi was a highlight and came with a showing amount of eel. Finished everything off with the matcha tiramisu and a cup of green tea. I won't need to eat for days. Will definitely be coming back! Thank you Kay and team!

If I'm honest, whenever I…read moreshow up to an AYCE I'm always skeptical with the quality of the food, especially when it comes to sushi but wow, I was blown away how great it was for AYCE. The set- up and the ambiance is very comfortable and sleek/modern with the main sushi chefs in the middle and the tables around them. The tables have waiters and a tablet at the table like most hot pot/kbbq places and you can order everything off of there. I have only been here once and wanted to try to low tier without going "all in" on the top tier option of diamond without knowing how the basics would taste. Let me say if the bottom tier was as good as it was, I'm excited to come back to try the next tier! Anyway, the basic tier already comes with a lot of sushi options and should be enough for those who are craving just sushi. All of the cuts of nigiri was great, all tender with great flavor, but what stood out to me the most was actually the yellowtail, super buttery and great flavor. The eel was also a top choice! All the rolls were good basic to the fancier ones, I would say that most of the bang for the buck would be the nigiri. The rolls are good but a little too much rice for me personally. The appetizers, didn't spend too much time on them but the chicken karaage was solid and the seaweed salad was my two favorite. Overall, super solid for the price and I'd totally want to go again to try more of their options! 100% recommend!

Toryumon wasn't crowded and there was inexpensive street parking close by. We quickly realized that Toryumon's all-you-can eat is head and shoulders above your usual Asian buffet restaurants for three reasons: your food is cooked to order, Toryumon has great recipes, and lastly, they use quality ingredients. Service was fabulous. Lots of options on the all-you-can eat memu. We started out with miso soup that was rich, delicious and had just the right amount of seaweed and finely diced tofu. The kanji salad was outstanding, the best I've ever come across. We loved the pork gyoza, ceviche and shumai. I also loved the beef hibachi, which came with vegetables, fried rice, and a most delicious dipping sauce. I'm not sure how they prepared it, but the endamame was especially tasty. The agu dashi was different than we expected. Usually it comes in broth, but Toryumon's agu dashi was fried tofu squares with an excellent dipping sauce. The spider and double spicy rolls were decent, but were shaped too large and in a little rough around the edges in appearance. Flavorwise, they were still good. We were a bit disappointed that they had run out of the chocolate and vanilla mochi dessert, but we settled for the matcha motchi which was good.

When I came in for Tuesday lunch, I wondered why this place wasn't teeming with more young professionals?! I mean, Ballston Quarter serves up $14 platters, which is the same lunch special here. And with tip screens so ubiquitous... you get the point. Anyhow, the server for my table was gracious. She exuded a very kind energy. And now onto the food... I was hungry so ordered the spring rolls appetizer AND one of the lunch specials (choose 2 sushi rolls + salad/soup) Spring Rolls - 6/10 They are actually fried and hot to the touch so be careful! I cut mine before eating. At $6, they are pretty decent value. Lunch Special Salad - 8/10 I loved the carrot miso vinagraitte on the iceberg lettuce. The only thing that would have made it better would be a nice crunch (toasted sesame seeds/wonton crisps) Shrimp Tempura Roll - 7.5/10 This is an elevated tempura roll with orange roe and eel sauce. Very filling as far as sushi rolls go. Salmon/Mango/Avocado Roll - 5/10 The rice layer on this roll was paper thin and the salmon tasted flat and flavorless, instead of that rich, buttery taste that high quality fresh salmon should have. On this visit, I noticed that the fillings are generous here but the rice is sparse/underseasoned on vinegar. I'd love to better appreciate the fine balance of the ingredients. Overall though, I enjoyed my meal. It is a strong spot and one that I would return to.

We also ordered the spider roll. Takohachi's spider roll comes with soft-shell crab, avocado, crab and fish roe. It was pretty good though the roll slices seemed fragile and started to fall apart. We ordered some kind of tonkatsu "bento box". It came with an excellent chicken katsu (loved the crunchy breading), udon, rice and a simple salad. This entrée also came with these interesting rice "balls" that were rice with a toasted slightly sweet exterior. I also ordered a toasted rice ball. It's what you think a toasted rice ball would be, white rice in ball that's been toasted. No additional ingredients or flavorings. JP ordered a grilled whole sardine, which he liked.
