I recently visited Umiya Sushi and had a really great experience, especially if you're someone who enjoys variety and all-you-can-eat options. They offer multiple AYCE tiers, which I appreciated depending on how much you want to indulge. Lunch starts at $26.99, with dinner tiers at $36.99 and $44.99, and a premium option at $74.99. I opted for the premium tier, and in my opinion, it's worth it if you want access to everything on the menu, including Wagyu and more elevated seafood options. The food quality stood out across the board. Some of my favorite dishes were the wagyu foie gras spoons, oysters with vinegar jelly, yellowtail jalapeño, and the salmon nigiri, which tasted very fresh. The cheese baked lobster and wagyu sliders were also highlights and not something you typically expect at a sushi spot. One thing that makes this place unique is the addition of hot pot. I tried both the mushroom broth and the spicy tomato broth, and I would recommend either depending on your preference--they were both flavorful and paired well with the available ingredients. To finish, I had the matcha crepe cake, which was a nice, light dessert to end the meal. Overall, this is a solid spot if you're looking for a wide selection of sushi, hot pot, and premium items all in one place. I'd definitely recommend coming hungry to get the most out of the experience.

We had the premium option to try as many things as possible. The cheesy lobster and Wagyu spoons were outstanding. My other favorites were: shrimp and veg tempura, shrimp dumpling on the buffet, tornado roll, royal tempera roll, shrimp hibachi and mochi. Good: duck salad, lobster roll, salmon lover roll, tuna tacos. I wouldn't order again: tuna tartare, sashimi sampler (dry, didn't seem too fresh), garlic scallop over vermicelli, and spicy lobster roll.

Foods great and great service. The location is convenient off the main road and has lots of parking. It's all you can eat and has two menus, a regular and premium. We did the regular menu. There are so many options and everything we ordered was good. Sushi was good and the hot foods. They also had a bar of already prepared foods and some canned beverages part of the all you can eat. We did like the sesame balls were good and all the fried items came out fresh and piping hot. Food came out of the kitchen quickly and at a good pace. There were also a good amount of sweet treats/desserts to end the meal. Inside was nice and quiet and clean. Lots of tables that could serve parties of 4. Would come back!

The food was okay for the sushi I ordered. I did now at the shrimp tempura. They put two shrimp in the roll and it made it obnoxiously big to pick up and it was falling apart. There's an upstairs level and a downstairs level. We sat downstairs with a large party. The noise level was average. Upstairs look way more beautiful than the basement. You can order on the tablet and it puts a time limit on the ordering (7-9 minutes I believe) so you cannot order after you place your initial order. Our food took about 10-15 minutes to come out. I didn't have any alcoholic beverages... Only water. I will go back here again, but I would like to experience the all-you-can-eat menus, whether it is the regular or premium. Last but not least... the parking is absolutely HORRIBLE. A NIGHTMARE IF YOU WILL. WE HAD TO PARK ALL THE WAY AT THE SHOPPING CENTER BY THE GIANT AND WALK DOWN... NOT TO MENTION THAT NIGHT IT WAS RAINING SO IT WAS ANNOYING TO HAVE TO DO THAT. Location is terrible.

We came here during the week and opted for the AYCE lunch special at $26.99 per person. The place was pretty quiet so it did not take long for the food to come out and everything was fresh. Soup: my daughter enjoyed her miso soup but I didn't love the creamy mushroom soup. It was more of a corn soup (which I love) with mushroom added. My issue with it was that it wasn't quite hot and it was really thick like a gravy vs a soup and needed a touch more flavor. Sushi: Our favorite was the tuna fusion roll which I would definitely order again. The spider roll was good as well though a little difficult to eat because it was so big! We didn't love the Umiya roll as all we could taste was the sweet chili sauce, it really overpowered the roll. kitchen tasting: The takoyaki was really nice after brushing off some of the bonito flakes. It was nice and hot with great flavor. The karaage was also good with great texture and the sauce with it was tasty. Overall, we will probably go back and thought the food was better than a typical buffet.

Came here a little later than our reservation and they were gracious enough to honor the reservation for 2. Had the premium version and was able to order on the iPad. Know that there were several items that needed the waitresses to put in as they are limited premium orders They cleared dishes quickly so it was not crowded. Overall the food was good. There were several items that stood out like the garlic vermicelli scallops, the wagyu spoons. I wouldn't get the soon doo by again and be careful with the overpowering tastes of the carpaccios

Been wanting to try Umiya for a while since they have a really unique AYCE sushi menu plus a bunch of other options beyond just sushi. Parking is very limited, so make sure you actually read the parking lot signs so you know where you're allowed to park. The atmosphere: The restaurant is spacious with tons of seating, and it never felt cramped. Everything is ordered through a tablet, which makes it super convenient and easy to keep track of what you're getting. There's also a small buffet area with drinks (milk, teas, etc.) and some extras like small plates, salads, and even crab legs. The food: The options were pretty good, especially the variety of small plates and appetizers. My favorites were the miso butter mussels and the specialty rolls. Portions were solid, and everything felt like a good value for AYCE. The service: Service was friendly and overall good, but there was a noticeable wait for food to come out. It didn't even look that busy, but we still waited a while for our first round to arrive.

We went and you can now order from the iPads yourself. We did see an issue where some items didn't come out. The pricing and items in the classic selection has changed. I feel torn. I am not sure if the ordering from the iPad system was still new when we went. The amount of time in front of the server was a lot less so issues weren't addressed. Which would be ok if the system worked. For me negative was being out of Diet Coke. Most of their drinks are sugared at the cooler so this is my best option. With it being out that is a bit of a negative for me. Not that I loved the mochi ice cream but even that is in the expensive menu now. Something changed with the tropical salmon dish. The texture was really grainy and didn't taste as good as other visits. We ordered a few to see if it was just one plate. But it was all of them. Overall still good just not sure we'd be as enthusiastic to pick this spot.

I have been wanting to try Umiya for a while, but have been hesitant because...how can an all you can eat sushi restaurant be good? Well, I got my answer. The folks at Umiya actually figured it out! First off the menu is massive. When you are seated they have an iPad at the table that you use to browse and order items. Beware that after you place your first order there is a timer that does not allow you to order again for 10 minutes. Also, there is a 90 minute limit, so take that in into account as well. The nigiri sushi was good. Of course, not high end sushi, but not bad either. Just about average to slightly above average. We enjoyed the salmon and hamachi best. Also, I highly recommend the unagi don (pictured), which was fresh and the unagi was so tender and falvorful. The appetizer dishes are not to be missed. The salmon carpaccio was excellent and the avocado salad had a wonderful miso dressing. They also have a small hot/cold bar for people doing the all you can eat. The dim sum was just shumai, but it was surprisingly good. I also tried the snow crab legs, which people seemed to be avoiding, but I thought they were very good despite being small and served cold. Also, they have a lunch menu that is reduced price during the week as well as a happy hour from 3-5 pm with drink specials. Overall we had a great experience. Our server was very kind and friendly. The food was so good we would definitely go again. I think it is a good value for the price and a must visit for ALX sushi lovers!

Heard good things about Umiya and some friends wanted to go. Reservations are through Yelp or OpenTable. It's located off Duke street and there are two small lots located on the same street. It was a Friday night so it was a little tough for us to get a spot at first. Luckily they took us in even though we were late. We got seated downstairs and were told the menu options. $36.99 for the classic (+$8 sashimi) and $74.99 for the premium. We got the classic with the sashimi add-on. All ordering is done via tablet and you're allowed 12 (I think) items at a time with a 10 minute time limit between orders. Each order isn't too big but if there's a kitchen back up then everything could come out all at once which happened to us so keep track of your orders! Pretty good for an all you can eat spot. It can get busy but if you're hungry, it's worth checking out.

Pros: The food!! The minute you enter the restaurant, you are nicely greeted with an assortment of starters: cold crab legs, oysters, dim sum, fruit, and refreshments (milk teas, Asian carbonated sodas and drinks). These items are a part of the AYCE but you have to get them yourself. Once seated, you can order sushi, rice, noodles, salads, more appetizers, desserts, you name it. There is an iPad for you to review (comes with photos) but you must order with the server. Our group paid for the premium AYCE which came with lobster and wagyu. If you don't care for these premium items, you can certainly sign up for the classic/standard AYCE, as it still comes with a ton of options. Con: Parking. Come early and check the two parking lots near the restaurant. Space is limited and tight.

UPDATE - We went back to Umiya last night and some changes have been made but not for the better. First, they've increased the price for the already expensive premium menu. Second, they removed some of my favorite menu items (lava bun). They got rid of a lot of items from the buffet - like their beignets and other desserts. And third, most of our food came out cold (twice) from the kitchen, and took forever to get to the table. Some items we ordered never arrived. Also, we noticed the cuts on the sushi rolls and nigiri weren't as precise as before. It's really disappointing!!! We had 2 really good experiences before.

Instead, I received plain fried rice with no egg, no chicken, no shrimp, and they didn't include the double green sauce I requested. Paying $15 for what was essentially plain fried rice was pretty disappointing. To make matters worse, the "green sauce" they did include wasn't even the usual spicy green sauce you get when dining in. It looked more like finely chopped green onions than the actual sauce. I also ordered Yaki Udon and requested double spicy green sauce with that as well--and once again, it was missing. It honestly felt like no one actually read my order. They seemed to go off muscle memory instead of following the modifications. Removing the shrimp entirely when I never asked for that just reinforces the impression that my order wasn't checked before it went out. The pickup experience wasn't much better. My order was sitting on the pickup shelf, clearly ready, but I had to flag down the host to retrieve it while a staff member stood just a few steps away. The food at Hawkers is good--that's why I keep coming back--but the consistency of the takeout service needs work. Reading orders carefully and giving a little more attention to customers picking up their food would go a long way. Great food, but the execution and service didn't match.
