I love this place. Today was the first time I tried Kanpai and it did not disappoint. I have been looking for another Korean Hot Pot and BBQ restaurant and one of my friends recommended Kanpai. The food was delicious. I ordered the salmon, garlic seasoned brisket and chicken with rice. All of the meat were well seasoned and cooked to my perfection. The rice was cooked a little hard. But overall, it was great. The service was impeccable. The hostess was very friendly and sat me as soon as I walked in. The waitress was very nice, knowledgeable and attentive. She made sure that all my needs were met. The restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing. You can tell they take pride in presentation. Unlike some other Korean BBQ restaurants..the restaurant was very clean. It was a great experience! If you are looking for great Korean BBQ and Hot Pot I recommend checking this place out. I will be back soon. Cheers!

My daughter took me here today for Mother's day! I feel so spoiled! The place is huge beautifully decorated and plenty of space. Kevin was our server he was very good, accommodating and always asking us how we are. And how's everything? Kelly was also very helpful, she was able to assist us as well. She has a very pleasing personality. We felt very welcomed. Now for the food. It was good but i wished it had more collection when it comes to types of meats. But i get that they have a buffet going on as well so there are many many choices. I loved the soft shell crab and snow crab legs. Desserts were plentiful as well.

I recently had dinner with some friends at Kanpai and enjoyed my experience! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and gives an upscale vibe. However, the prices are still very affordable! I am not big on buffets for hygienic reasons. However, I did try a few items once they were newly put out. One thing I did not like was how long it took for them to replace certain items. I waited close to 30 mins for fresh pineapple fried rice, which tasted okay. Surprisingly the pad thai was delicious and super moist! I enjoyed the bbq because most kbbq places have limited pescatarian friendly options. The salmon cooked in butter was delicious once I added some garlic a few little spices to jazz it up. The shrimp also tasted super fresh. I would definitely return

I was pleasantly surprised by this bbq hotpot spot. Usually if a place has both bbq and hotpot I find that the quality of both are kind of low but the bbq options here were pretty good and I liked the soup options and toppings for the hotpot. It was very flavorful. The buffet also had some good dishes. They also had a variety of drinks. I liked the Thai green tea and the bar made a great old fashioned. The servers were friendly and helpful. The restaurant had a nice ambiance for a buffet style place.

It's one of the best buffet restaurants I have ever been to because of the choices they offered. There were cooked dishes just like any other buffet restaurants, but in addition there were choices of barbecue and hot pot. For an affordable price, you can have it all. Or favorites are soft shell crabs, steamed fish, all barbecue meats and Thai desserts. The service was excellent, very attentive and efficient. It is a huge place but the noise level is unnoticeable. It's a super deal in town!

An updated review on Kanpai since I've gone recently. Reservations are crucial if you want to be seated here in a timely manner. Celebrated my twin cousins birthday here and we had a nice booth with individual hot pots to choose from. The buffet was really demolished so I wish they could have restocked it for dinner. Otherwise, very good options to choose from. Beverages are good, food came out quickly and our servers celebrated with singing to my cousins on their birthday. Let it be known, the whole restaurant knew haha.

We had visited this place 2x, once during lunch and once during dinner. Of course dinner is pretty busy than lunch. But the service never changed. Always welcomed with a smile and the staff were really helpful. And also with mr robot server. The place is quite huge they can cater small to big groups. Unfortunately you have to be at least 5 pax to reserve but so far the wait they have is at least 30mins the longest, the one we experienced. It's probably depends on what time you will visit. They have parking shared with other strips which is in the front and at the back and a shared garage too. About the food, they offered buffet from appetizers, main course, fruits, sauce, to desserts. In my opinion you really get what you paid for. Now lunch and dinner have different pricing, lunch is much affordable but the menu is quite limited. Now by default you will get bbq and hotpot in one price so it is really good deal. The meat is so good and quality. Also one thing here is after the eating your clothes doesn't smell like smoke. Overall this is one of the top bbq and hotpot place.

The ambience was relaxed until the birthday song rang out accompanied by a large crowd, flashing lights, and 80s style boom box eliciting immediate PTSD followed by memories of an overpriced pizza establishment of days of old. I half expected the conjuring of a 6-foot out of work and struggling stuffed rodent donned in a bright colored costume and crooked smile to appear. It nearly caused me to rush for the exit. The saving grace was the ever helpful, Joanna, she not only came to my rescue but made my experience complete, packed with smiles and great tasting food. Spectacular service! Food: Ample selection and various options offered and available once the ordering system is established. If you are looking for a spot to try something new I highly recommend the Kanpai.

This place is honestly one of my favourite hotpot places in the DMV area! I've only had it for hotpot and have yet to try the Korean BBQ here, but I don't mind missing out on that part. Waitlist can get somewhat long but doesn't hurt checking out the other spots around this strip while waiting. I've been here for lunch and dinner and the all you can eat options for hotpot have been great with their meats, noodles, and veggies. I also love their buffet in the back with their selections of items, especially their seafood options like crab, shrimp... I feel like I end up eating half hotpot and half buffet here. Love their refills of green thai iced tea during the meal too. The staff have always been nice, although it's been hard to get their attention at times, so I'd sit around waiting until they came over for refills or the check. The vibe is fun, especially with people's birthdays and the music here. Definitely recommend this place for a fun and tasty hotpot experience!

TLDR: A fun and impressive all you can eat experience combining hotpot, Korean BBQ, and a strong Chinese buffet. Fresh ingredients, fast service, great variety, and a surprisingly smooth system for such a packed restaurant. Kanpai is an all you can eat powerhouse offering endless hotpot, Korean BBQ, and a Chinese buffet all rolled into one experience and I am fully on board with it. My group of four arrived on a Friday night around seven to a packed dining room, yet we only waited a few minutes for a table. That alone speaks to how efficient and well organized their front of house operation is. The restaurant is nicely decorated and clearly a new build or renovation with a polished feel that shows someone invested heavily into the space. Once seated, the system is simple. You pay a flat rate and get full access to both the hotpot and Korean BBQ stations at your table along with free range at the Chinese buffet in the back. For hotpot, each table selects two broths which arrive in a split basin set on a built in table burner. From there you order as many meats, seafood, and vegetables as you want. The Korean BBQ operates the same way with a selection of meats and seafood ready to be grilled by you at your own pace. Servers will sometimes help with grilling but during busy times it is easier to handle it yourself. The hotpot is entirely self managed. The buffet is a fantastic addition that more all you can eat places should embrace. It features a nice range of appetizers like potstickers and spring rolls along with more interesting items such as spare ribs, fried soft shell crab, and pineapple fried rice. The sauce bar nearby is loaded with every topping and condiment you could possibly want. As for the proteins, everything we tried for both hotpot and KBBQ was fresh and portioned generously. A small tip for newcomers. Table space becomes very limited when juggling both hotpot and KBBQ, so pace your ordering. Everything is done through a tablet at the table and once you submit your items a robot runs your meats straight to you which was a fun touch. Our highlights included the laksa broth paired with various seafood for hotpot and on the KBBQ side the thin sliced beef and pork belly which were simple but excellent because of how good the meat quality was. Overall, Kanpai delivers a great all you can eat experience and is absolutely worth a visit if you want variety, freshness, and a lively crowd.

2nd time visiting. Daughter felt like having kbbq and hotpot, and Kanpai offers both and much more. I love the food, good service and a clean and comfortable (we had a big table with grill and hot pot). I ate enough for all three of us. Lol. Highly recommend.

Came by for dinner with some friends and I highly recommend this place. On a sidenote, I will mention that if you're not familiar with this area parking at the shopping center can be quite hectic so if you can't find something in front, I highly recommend just going straight to the back lot and finding a parking space there it will save you a lot of time and stress. Upon walking in kanpai it's a mix of modern and elegant while encompassing a very fun vibe. We saw many birthdays, taking place and they come out with these huge signs and glow sticks and really make it into a spectacle which I love and a special shout out to Camille, the hostess, who bared with us through all of the photo opportunities she was amazing. Food wise for the price you pay it's beyond amazing at the hot bar. You have option such as pad Thai with chicken and shrimp glass noodles with various seafood dumplings, softshell crabs, and so much more the options are almost endless. Then you have various fruits salad available as well as a great variety of desserts for at the end of the meal. At the table, you also then have the option of both hot pot and Korean barbecue and the meat options are also very amazing considering the price . Ordering is made super easy as each table gets a tablet so you can put in your orders without having to wait for a waiter or waitress. Additionally, the food comes out in one of those robotic trays so again wait time is very limited as as soon as it comes out someone or something will deliver it for you. The only thing that was inconvenient was the way that the tables are set up for smaller parties as they have a side-by-side set up of the Korean barbecue and the hot pot so it's not easily accessible for everyone sitting there so there is some assistance that will be needed throughout your dinner. Other than that, I highly recommend as they have great food great service and all-around great vibes!

This is one of best ayce-buffet style restaurants I've ever eaten at. Kanpai delivers ayce hot pot and kbbq AND a buffet (broken down into a hot bar, cold bar, sauce bar, and dessert bar)! Unlike other places with this type of package, their point of elevation draws on Southeast Asian flavors, so their selection is curated where some offerings can stand as an entire restaurant dish in themselves. Options range from soft shell crab, papaya salad, and a house "kanpai sauce," tell me that there is a lot of thought into making sure that this restaurant has a distinct food identity despite being ayce. That being said, a lot of popular food items still lean towards Japan, Korea, and China, so I do wish that there was more SEA regional specificity in their dishes as they evolve their menu. For me, I would love to see a SEA restaurant thrive, so it feels a bit misleading to name it "Kanpai," when they have the food and experience to really nail that SEA identity and ownership in their name and brand. The renovation of this restaurant is new and clean, so the experience is just amazing and very streamlined. We even met the robot that gives you your hot pot ingredients! It can be very overwhelming to have all of these factors in your eating experience, but you can just embrace the abundance and variety this restaurant offers. Our wait staff were quick, efficient, and very attentive to our needs. Because there is so much being offered, we saw a lot of customers come in for celebrations and holidays, even the staff even join in to hype them up. You can engage at most levels of proficiency and improve on all fronts when it comes to table side self-cooking.

    No they don't

There was so much variety that I wasn't able to try everything. Lobster, clam, crab leg, oyster, scallop, abalone, oxtail, rib, fish, cuttlefish, chicken, galbi, shrimp, sushi, and sashimi to name a few. The abalone was a bit dry, probably from sitting out for a while before being eaten. The pig bun was cute, but I was expecting custard and it was actually a red bean filling. I did not enjoy the colorful dumplings. I'm glad they also had eel sashimi, but it was not refilled before we left after it ran out. This big selection is only for dinner or weekends. If you go for weekday lunch, the variety of food drastically decreases. I loved their chicken soup and Buddha jumps over the wall soup. After we were seated, there was so much to try. A member of the wait staff must bring the hotpot (it's small, but that's okay because the table fills up with plates quickly) and sodas, if ordering. I ordered the mushroom broth flavoring (none of the hotpot's have pork-based favoring). Everything else is available to pick up on your own (Ramen, Buffet items, hot pot items, boba teas, and all of the dessert items). Staff came fairly regularly to pick up empty plates. Bathrooms were okay, no lines when I needed to stop by. I would love to see Umi have handwashing sinks outside of the restrooms though, not sure where they would put them, but that would be amazing! It was busy when we dined for lunch, but it was not ever so busy that I was waiting for food or platters were empty. Umi also offers carry out for food and even boba teas for additional cost. There is an automatic 12% service fee added to each check, regardless of the size of the party. If paying with cash, there is a 3% discount. There is plenty of free outdoor parking all over the shopping complex Umi is in. I tried not to think of this too much, but Umi only uses plastic/disposable plates. All that plastic leeching into my food didn't stop me, but it made me uncomfortable and stressed. The bowls for soup were plastic too. The silverware was metal and the bowls the Ramen was served in was ceramic. I asked if by chance non-plastic materials are available at Dinner and was told that only plastic is ever used. I understand why (the kitchen cannot keep up with washing the plates, I am sure), but I am unsure of when I would want to return because of this unpleasant feeling.

The inside had a lot more tables than I thought and the space was bigger than I thought. If i'm being honest, I first chose this place due to the conveyor belt, robot, and $20 lunch price point. Unfortunately, I only kind of got one of those. To my shock, the price increased to $25 for lunch and the conveyor belt was no longer working. I was honestly most excited about the conveyor belt. I saw some reviews that said due to covid they stopped it but if you ordered things, it was sent that way. Unfortunately I think the conveyor belt hasn't been in use for a while because they had decor and everything on it. They did have to robot but it only delivered drink and desserts sometimes. There were even times the robot was on its way to deliver something and the waiter stopped it in the middle of the walkway and deliver the item himself. I wouldn't say the experience was bad but I think it was subpar. Although I did like that the tables give you individual pots because I've been to some places where six people have to share one pot in the middle and it's chaos because you have to reach over people so the individual pot was great. In terms of the actual food it was not bad. The server was actually nice and brought us angus beef which was a dinner item, although we were there for lunch. I mad a great sauce from the sauce bar. I loved the appetizers they had. The fried rice and noodles were exactly how I love it. The fried rice was how i'd have it growing it. All and all loved it and will probably go back at some point. Everything was good except for one thing, which I think is pretty important and influences my final score. When we arrived, I told the server we were new to hot pot and we wanted to try two broths. He showed us the iPad ordering device and told me that we should order a half and half pot for $1 extra to get two broths. So, I ordered a half and half pot, and then ordered a variety of meats and fish. We went up to get veggies, which were all being stored at a good cold temp and all looked good. Then a single SMALL pot (they have two sizes of hot pot) was delivered to our table, half one broth and half the other. As I put some of the ingredients in (we were feeding two people), the hot/spicy broth spilled over to the other (tom yum) broth, and essentially turned the whole meal into a spicy broth meal. We got no taste of the tom yum. As we ended the meal, I noticed that other couples had two different pots. We essentially were cramming food for two people into a single pot (and it was one of the small pots, not one of the big ones). As we went to pay the check, I asked the server if we should have gotten two individual pots, each with a different broth. He said "oh yes. I should have told you that." What??!!? So, we basically spent well almost $90 (including tip) for a single small pot of spicy broth mixed with other broth, and having to spend the time minimizing the transfer of broths from one side to the other by minimizing the amount of food we put into the small pot. Yes, I'm ticked off (and I don't tick off easily). The meal would have been very good, but I feel like we got taken advantage of and the server, when he saw us struggling to keep the broths separate and knew he should have been served two pots, didn't say a word, apologize, or offer us any discounts. I reached out twice to the restaurant through Yelp, but heard nothing back. Again, the meats looked good, the veggies looked good, the sauce station was a nice addition. But everything was crammed into a small pot that tasted the same. And they charged us an extra dollar for the privilege! Ugh. I'm really disappointed - and ticked off.

We came back tonight for the AYCE. You order from an app that you connect from your phone. The…read moreordering was easy and each person in the party can order items at the same time. There's a limit on nigiri/sashimi to one piece per order. What that means is that, when you put in your first (and subsequent orders), you can order one tuna, one salmon, etc nigiri/sashimi. That is a lot better than what I originally thought, which was one nigiri/sashimi total for each round. The variety in the AYCE is impressive. Lots of sushi, sashimi, nigiri, salads, soups, variety of appetizers (not all fried stuff!) and hibachi (beef, chicken and shrimp). Tonight, the food arrived pretty quickly after we put in an order. There was an issue toward the end of the evening when the app stopped working at our table and the table next to ours. The Staff did what they could to fix things; it did take about 20 minutes, though. I'm assuming this isn't typical. Staff did say that this does happen from time to time and the customer needs to exit the app and reorder. Except for the 20 minute delay, things worked fine. We placed at least 12 small orders during our meal. The staff was very good about filling water glasses, bringing our food and taking away empty plates. Really - high praise for the staff. The restaurant is very pleasant to sit in. It has Asian motif and nice music playing over the PA. The only issue was with the ordering system, which, as I said, I'm thinking was unusual. Ice cream and soft drinks included.

Did I mention ice cream and Pepsi products are also included ?! Our waitress was very friendly and explained the menu very well, and I appreciated it a lot . I noticed she was the only one on the floor the night I went on a busy Saturday night! What a badass, she was very quick. The decorations were really nice and the restaurant was very clean. It was divided between hibachi dining room and regular dining room. Keep in mind that they validate parking at the metro parking lot !

We've been coming to this AYCE kbbq spot for a while now and it's already a favorite, but I had to…read morewrite a review after being served by Andrew twice. Andrew is genuinely one of the best servers I've had anywhere. Super professional without feeling stiff, really easy to talk to, and just completely on top of everything. He managed the grill perfectly the whole time, paced the meat so nothing felt rushed or slow, and kept the heat just right without us ever having to ask. Our table never sat empty either. Banchan refills came out fast, drinks stayed full, and everything just flowed. What stood out the most was how seamless the entire experience felt. You don't realize how much that matters until you have someone who does it this well. It made the whole meal way more enjoyable. On top of that, the food here is already great and for $45 AYCE it's honestly a steal. But having Andrew take care of us twice now is what really made me want to leave this review. If you come here, definitely ask for Andrew if you can. He elevates the whole experience.

We left the cooking and ordering up to him. We arrived ariund 730 on a Saturday and had to wait about an hour for a table. We sat at the bar and ordered soju and I had a lychee martini, which was so delicious. We went with the premium meats and started with brisket, which was good, but simple. It was perfect with the veggies and sauces that were given. The rice and soup was delicious! My husband had two rounds eventhough we told him to save room. We then had the marinated boneless short rib, which was marinated perfectly and super flavorful and tender. We also ordered fried dumplings and a few rounds of ramen. The ramen was so delicious, especially when you add more veggies and meat. Overall, great ambiance and experience. The food is great, especially if you enjoy Korean bbq. Definitely worth a visit.

On this visit, we both got selections like what we had around our early times of visiting this spot. I cannot remember what my friend got, but I ordered one of the "Feasty Specials" which had 1/2 Snow Crab Legs and 1/2 Headless Shrimp. It came with sausages (sliced in pieces), 1 Corn (about 1/4 size), 1 Egg, and 2 Potatoes (the skin easily comes off). You get to pick the seasoning and I had Old Bay. What is presented to you is a large clear bag, steamed up and tied, with seasonings and all mixed up. It is served on a metal tray, and they also place an empty bowl on your table for discarding things. Plastic bib was on, bag opened, and I was ready to dig in. The seasoning took me back to my second visit a few years ago. It was when I first tasted their Old Bay mix and became a fan of it. This Feasty Special was just enough and I was glad to switch things up for a change.

Overall, the food is good, and, in our opinion, you do get what you pay for. Keep in mind that they DO charge you if you have leftover food on your table when you are done. Be mindful of that and make sure to let them know as you are finishing up, and want more, to scale down your portion size. There is a 90-minute window to eat. The servers don't really go over the menu much, so if it is your first time for all you can eat, make sure to take notice that the crab legs do come with a few different flavor options. The bad - They started a new policy, which I understand, but do not like. If you want all you can eat, everyone who is at the table must all order it as well, or nobody can. I understand they are protecting their profits, but that has taken us away from this place on more than one occasion to eat elsewhere as some wanted it and another family members wanted to order off the main menu. Also, service can be extremely slow, and I am not sure if it is intentional or not, but we have complained more than once and made them extend our time. Last time we went, they set our first order of food down on the table and as we were eating, the waitress walked by no less then 5 times and didn't bother to ask if we wanted anything else. Then, magically, when our food was gone, we could not get anyone to come to the table for 15 minutes. Upon ordering our next round, it took another 20 more minutes for the food to arrive. They are sticklers about the 90-minute time frame, and we explained that twice this has happened and 60 minutes of our 90 minutes was wasted waiting on a server and then the food took forever. They allowed us one more round of food, which we appreciated and thought was fair. We start a stopwatch now and if we feel things are going slow, we address that with the server and sometimes put in a new order when the food is being dropped off. Overall, we are pleased to come here a few times a year. We only get all you can eat and usually are happy when we leave. The food is inconsistent as we do get the lobster tail with all you can eat, and it is usually overcooked and can chew like rubber, but still has good flavor. The crab legs sometimes come out waterlogged with salt, but most times piping hot. This is your typical "average" 3-star restaurant. If you are prepared to spend the money for all you can eat, you will leave satisfied and full, but never will you think "I wish I could come here every week". I have not ordered specific entrees off the regular menu so I cannot speak on portion size or quality of the food by ordering that way. Staff is always pleasant, but you do need to get on them if they are slacking.
