I placed an online order at 6:22 PM and arrived at the restaurant around 6:40 PM. The restaurant was extremely busy, with a long line for dine-in customers. I asked if my takeout order was ready and was told it would be "a few more minutes." After waiting approximately 15 minutes, I checked again and was given the same response. During that time, numerous dine-in customers continued to be seated, and several other customers were also waiting for takeout orders. About 10 minutes later, I asked for another update. The employee attempted to explain the timing on my receipt, but I pointed out that the estimated pickup time had already passed and that I was simply looking for an accurate status update. She went to the kitchen to check and returned with the receipt again, at which point it became clear that my order had not even been started. After waiting nearly an hour from the time I placed my order, I asked for it to be canceled and left. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened when I've ordered takeout from this restaurant. I completely understand that restaurants get busy, especially during peak dinner hours, but if the kitchen cannot keep up with both dine-in and online orders, it would be much better to temporarily disable online ordering until the backlog is under control. Other nearby restaurants, such as Okinami, do exactly that to avoid long waits and frustrated customers. The food has always been decent, but it is simply not worth waiting almost an hour for a takeout order--especially when the order hadn't even been started and I was repeatedly told it would only be "a few more minutes." I would much rather be given an honest estimate upfront than continue waiting without any meaningful update. Better communication and better management of online orders would go a long way toward improving the customer experience. read more

Great place most of the time. I wouldn't go here on Friday nights or the weekends. It tends to get really busy past 6-7pm. It's a great place to enjoy great sushi and parking is plenty. Next to a Dunkin so you can get some coffee or donuts afterwards. I love their spicy tuna roll, Alaskan, and yellowtail ! I also order sashimi to put on top of my rolls because I never fully enjoy "specialty rolls". Best time to go would be afternoons, but give it a shot ! read more

It's been a couple years since my last review of Asahi and their AYCE experience still impressed me. The price hasn't changed, quality of fish is still good and service was great. I was pleased to find that they didn't give us half slices of sashimi in subsequent rounds after the first offering. All sushi, sashimi and fried foods were good. We tried the chicken wings, calamari and pork gyozas. The seaweed salad and salmon skin salads are also favorites. They only thing I did not like was their hot and sour soup. Sometime tasted very off with it. Assorted ice creams rounded out the meal in the end. It's still BYOB and no credit card fee! The food here was great, and the staff was pleasant, though they definitely seemed a bit stressed -- the place was absolutely packed. We had a 7:00 PM reservation on a Friday but didn't get seated until around 8:00. A lot of people were waiting and asking about their orders, even those just picking up takeout. Once we finally sat down, everything we got was delicious, but they forgot four of our rolls. It felt like the team was just overwhelmed that night, so I don't hold it against them, but it did make the experience a little chaotic. Asahi Sushi in Norwood is a reliably consistent option for freshly-prepared Japanese cuisine in a casual, no-frills atmosphere. Encouraged by several posts on local Facebook groups raving about Asahi Sushi's 'all-you-can-eat' option, I recently visited with a large group (four adults and two children). The service was exceptional -- we were seated right away at one of the large group tables, the staff was very responsive, and a massive amount of food which barely fit on the table arrived surprisingly quickly. Diners can order sushi rolls and sashimi as well as a variety of freshly-made traditional Japanese dishes (teriyaki, tempura, etc.) either à la carte (paying for each item ordered) or on an 'all-you-can-eat' (AYCE) basis ($28 for lunch or dinner on Monday through Thursday; $30 for lunch or dinner on Friday through Sunday and holidays). AYCE includes soup, salad, hot and cold appetizers, sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, and even ice cream or tempura bananas and oreos (if you have room for it after your meal). Even if you're not in the mood for a heavy meal, I still recommend the AYCE option if you're going to order more than two of the premium sushi rolls (which range from $14 to $15 apiece). There's no limit to the number of orders you can place, but it's best to pace yourself by ordering a few items at a time. We ordered a LOT of food for our group, including several hot and cold appetizers, katsu chicken, sashimi, and special rolls. While the quality and freshness of the ingredients was obvious, the overall experience definitely put an emphasis on quantity over quality. I tried the Kiss of Fire roll (made with tuna, salmon, and yellowtail topped with avocado and spicy mayo) and the Outstanding Roll (made with spicy tuna and avocado topped with pepper tuna). Both were perfectly acceptable, but they felt uninspired and lacked the distinct flavor or 'wow factor' that makes a sushi place a true destination. My meal definitely wasn't bad -- the service was great, our large order was served very quickly, and no one got sick. I'd give it 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 stars. It's a solid, consistent option if you are in the Norwood area, especially for families or large groups. However, it didn't quite live up to the 'must-visit' hype for me. I'd return for the convenience and value, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. PRO TIP: Bring a bottle of wine or beer from home or stop at 86 & Vine right across Livingston Street to enjoy with your meal. Asahi is a BYOB establishment and does not serve alcohol. read more

I've been to a few AYCE sushi places and I'll def keep coming back to this spot. Service is always quick which is great when your starving cz come on your at an all you can eat for a reason haha it's BYOB which is perfect for those picky drinkers. It's a cozy spot with a bunch of tables which always seem crowded but they flip tables fairly quick. Sushi is always fresh, love the sashimi options! My fav is peppered salmon that's only on the weekend. They have fried wings on the weekend as well but sadly I was there on a weekday and didn't get them this time. I made a yelp account today to leave this review because Asahi sushi is so horrific. As I'm writing this, I'm very disappointed because the food here is actually very good. The unfortunate piece is the getting the food part. The entire experience felt like I was in the Twilight Zone or a prank show, I was half expecting someone to jump out with a camera. The staff seem like they've never, served, cooked, or poured a glass of water before this evening. On a Thursday night at about 6:30 in a half full restaurant, we (2 people) waited 40 minutes for our first order of "all you can eat" sushi. It did not seem like a lack of staff issue either, there were several sushi chef's, kitchen staff, 4+ servers, and a host which seemed more than adequate. Having waited so long for our first order already, and having observing/ overhearing other parties complaining about wait times exceeding 50 minutes between their orders, we asked for another ordering sheet in hopes to avoid such delays. When I asked the waiter for another ordering sheet he looked at me like I asked him for a free meal and I should be institutionalized. He said that he'd give us another one when we "finish our first order" and he couldn't because they are really busy and "there is a 30-45 minute wait" to which we responded that's exactly why we want to order now- he reluctantly gave us a crumpled sheet from his pocket. Mind you the restaurant is only about 65% full at this time. Over the course of our wait I witnessed several customers who hadn't been waited on for 20+ minutes get up and leave, a larger party of ~6 who arrived at a similar time hadn't got their first order by the time our 2nd one came. A group of 4 were practically begging for the check as servers raced back and forth to deliver to go orders to the front. We ended up being there for 2 hours and got 2 orders of sushi- hardly "all you can eat". The worst part of this experience was seeing how many to go orders were flying out of the door. Brown to go bags were constantly being delivered to the front for pickup, while us in-person patrons sat holding up cups to get a water refill like beggars. They obviously are capable of producing sushi, they just prioritize non all you can eat customers. The whole experience seemed like a tactic to reduce the amount of food ordered by all you can eat customers- which if it's an issue then maybe you should not offer all you can eat and stick to a traditionally priced per item menu. I can confidently say this was the first time I've ever left an all you can eat sushi restaurant and not been full and one of the least pleasant dining experiences I've ever had. I can assure you I will never be back to this godforsaken place. If you're interested I'd recommend doing takeout. read more

Pretty solid AYCE sushi spot. Price is lower than most other AYCE spots and they allow you to get sashimi, which is very rare. The sushi quality is decent for AYCE standards. Their hot food menu is slightly limited, but they had some unique options on there that were pretty good. As the case with most AYCE sushi joints, they will mess up your order and not bring out everything you asked for, but that's par for the course at AYCE sushi spots. The one negative about this place is that it could be much cleaner. The floor was pretty dirty and had spills everywhere. Also, if you get seated in the elevated tables, it's uncomfortable since getting in and out is a task. It was also raining that day, so people were bringing rain onto the seating areas. Just ordered from DoorDash. Yuki Hanna is my go to, but they have no delivery option, so I thought I'd try a new place. The sashimi deluxe was a huge disappointment with paper thin slices. The seaweed salad was just a small dollop over massive chunks of iceberg. The kani salad had even more seaweed salad and very little Krab. I get that everything costs more these days, but I would have paid more for normal portions. One and done. Edited to add, I just read that this restaurant is an all you can eat. Prices are somewhat high for the size of sushi rolls they serve. We ordered the Red Dragon, Empire, and Bergen rolls to go. Our order was ready within 20 minutes. When we opened the boxes at home, was pretty surprised to see the size of rolls. Also, there was no additional sides like soup or salad, which we usually get from sushi places near our home. We liked the red dragon and Bergen rolls, but Empire roll was lil disappointing. The seaweed didn't taste well with rest of the sushi. The three rolls were not enough for two of us to fill up our tummy. I think the best thing about this place is that it's mostly packed, and you get this neighborhood vibe with their typical customers being families with kids and groups of students from the local high-school. Their sushi is good, I'm by no means a sushi expert, but I visited this restaurant multiple times and never had an issue with the freshness of their sushi. We asked for a booth and were told us "no, people have reservations" even though for the duration of our meal (2 hours) the booths were only occupied by walk-ins and were half empty. Truly disappointing and atrocious service. Been coming here for 15 years and am done! Took a large adult family party tonight for AYCE. Service has never been terrific, always a bit rude but it gets busy so we've always ignored this factor as par for the course. Mixed table of big guys and small women - combination of healthy appetites and salad munchers and soup lovers. Ordered a combination of sushi and sashimi. Got virtually none of the sashimi we ordered and sushi was overtly rice-centric. Tried ordering more sashimi 3 times. Never came. Slow, slow service and impossibly slow response from waiting staff. However, kid with the water came round every 2 minutes trying to fill you up with fluids, too obviously trying to ensure they could fill you up quickly. Ended up waiting 30 more minutes for a last small round of food and ice cream with the check. Ice cream came, check came. No more food. Waitress refused to make eye contact to return. First time EVER we actually left hungry. Have never complained about the endless price hikes, or long waits but this final experience was the last straw. Heaven help the 6 big guys who came in after us .... hope they wanted 3 pints of water each and a bowls worth of rice. read more

The only issue was that the place is understaffed for a Friday evening, and to get out water refilled we had to wait more than 20 minutes after asking multiple times.
