THE FOOD ---------------- + Corn Corn - Nicely plated fried sweet corn was delicious and tasty. + Pork Tenderloin Katsu - Loveeeed how flaky crispy the katsu was. A small white cabbage salad and perfectly cooked rice came with the katsu. The sauces and dressing that accompanied it were ridiculously so good. One of my favorite katsus EVER. + Niku Udon - Super tender braised beef and delicious broth that really gave the udon some awesome flavor. = Kids Curry Rice with Pork Tenderloin Katsu - Curry was absolutely delicous - so delicious that I used it to dip my own order of katsu into it. Unfortunately, the rice in the bowl was poorly cooked and way too soggy. = Kids Chicken Teriyaki - Teriyaki was very fresh and delicious, but, once again, the white rice was disappointingly soggy. THE SERVICE ------------------- + Waitress was very quick with taking our order and courteous. + Our food came out pretty quickly after we ordered. THE SURROUNDINGS ------------------------------- + Stunningly simple, yet elegant decor. The entire interior is clean and very contemporary. + There is a private parking lot shared with a strip mall behind the Closter Center. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = We made a resy for 6:30 PM on a Saturday evening and it wasn't needed at all. It was pretty busy inside, but there were still empty booths/tables available.

Another visit to Domoto We ordered our favorite udon - Mazeman ($19) !!!! Still soooo good. My friend's Kimchi udon was just regular, similar to any broth with kimchi. Pork Loin donkatsu was soooo tender and thick - just that it is only one piece and pricey for that one piece !!!!! For $21 !!! The appetizer Corn corn was simple enough while waiting for the udon to come out. We mixed the rice that comes with the donkatsu with the Mazeman sauce leftover, and it was as if we had another new dish !!!! Worth the money !!!!

The food is fabulous - the corn corn appetizer was very unique and unexpected. We had the Pork Katsu, Mazemen and Niku Udon. The drinks in a clear "soda-like" container is very unique. Service was terrific and the venue is perfect - it's very comfortable and plenty of parking available. The china for the teapot was pretty banged up.

I discovered Domoto through pictures on social media of their eye-catching space. If you're into minimalism, you can't get better than the quiet, mellow vibes of this Japanese restaurant. I also came for their noodle bar. There's a window in the dining area that looks directly into the noodle-making room on site. I couldn't resist the opportunity to watch someone put on a live striptease show of my dinner. Sadly, the chef wasn't in when I visited, but trust me when I say the texture of these noodles are unreal. They're dense and chewy, so much that I had to ask if these were rice or flour noodles. It turned out to be made from flour, but it's got a glutinous heft and chew that made me think of rice. The mazeman dish is one of the noodle entrees that employs these freshly made noodles. I wasn't sure how spicy pork, almond butter, butter and scallions would come together, but it absolutely works. The aesthetics of the restaurant alone are worth a visit, but to make things even better, service is top notch. Not only was my server kind, warm, and attentive, but he was open with suggestions on how to better enjoy my meal. For instance, after I dug into my katsu appetizer, he brought over a little dish of a dark grey dressing. "It's a house-made black sesame dressing," he explained. "I personally like it with the cabbage." He was spot on. I was already loving the lightly dressed salad, but a little drizzle of the textured, nutty dressing took it over the top. Later, when I asked why my beer wasn't on my receipt, he smiled and said it was on the house. I was touched and grateful. Truly, I haven't had better service at high-end restaurants. I came for the vibes, I stayed for the food, and I'll have to come back for another visit soon.

I've always loved DOMODOMO, so I went into DOMOTO knowing I'd probably enjoy it - even though it's a different, more casual concept. DOMOTO leans into Japanese comfort food (think katsu and hearty noodles), and it absolutely delivers. It carries the same attention to quality you expect from its sister restaurant, just in a more laid-back, everyday format. Everything I've ordered here has been excellent. The katsu is the standout: the batter is light and airy, never greasy, and the meat inside is perfectly tender and juicy. It's crispy without feeling heavy, and honestly a must-try. You leave feeling satisfied, not weighed down - which is saying a lot for fried food. The Korean fried chicken was another highlight - crispy, flavorful, and well-balanced and the mazemen noodles was rich and comforting without being overwhelming. DOMOTO is high-quality Japanese comfort food done right - craveable, and consistently solid. A great spot when you want something indulgent but still clean and satisfying. Service has always been excellent every time I've been heree. Definitely a place I'll keep coming back to.

I would rate this a 10/10, perfect casual sit-down restaurant. Tucked at the end of Closter Plaza, we needed a quick bite during errands so we stopped in. Starting strong: The corn ribs app was a fun start to get our appetite going. Then... the katsu entrees blew us away. Our server let us know that the pork tenderloin comes cooked a little pink, wow it was so juicy and the panko was so light and airy. My ebi shrimp were enormous and they came with several dipping sauces--tonkatsu, tartar and sweet chili. The entrees came with a bowl of rice and a nice big pile of cabbage with a ramekin of black sesame dressing. We finished our meal with the sweet potato crème brûlée and were back out running errands in less than an hour.

We came here for dinner around 8:45PM on a Friday. It's very modern with nice interior and clean. The service was great and the servers were very attentive and answered our questions. We ordered the pork tenderloin and the mazemen as our main courses. The mazemen was very tasty, but could've used a little more spice but overall great flavors. The pork tenderloins were so juicy and the pairings that came with it were perfect. For dessert we got the sweet potato creme brulee which we really enjoyed. Overall this was a nice dinner, a little pricey though so I would be more interested in going for their lunch specials in the future instead.

TLDR: Sister location of DOMODOMO/Konban. Modern izakaya-ish selection. Corn ribs, pork tenderloin katsu, mazemen, spicy tuna roll, sweet potato dessert. You're welcome. For some reason I thought I had written about Domoto awhile ago. It's another offshoot from the group behind city classics DOMODOMO and Konban. The corn ribs are dusted with cheese and grilled, so satisfying and very tasty. The pork tenderloin is the katsu to get, it's cooked with a crispy outside but incredible tender in side. If you like the Korea style shrimp katsu, huge black tiger prawns. The mazemen is basically the same one from konban with the meat sauce and butter. They also make the noodles in-house here as well. The spicy tuna roll is somewhat of a cross-between a gimbap and makimono. I like the panko flakes in it with the fluffy egg and pickled radish. Easily one of the best Asian concepts in the North NJ area.

Very cozy and warm ambiance. I went with a party of 4 and we were seated promptly on a Saturday afternoon. We placed our orders but my ebi got sent to the wrong table so I had to wait longer for mine with no compensation which is why it's 4 stars for me. By the time I got my dish, the rest of my party already finished theirs. The corn corn is a must try! Roasted and paired with this wasabi milk syrup, it tastes smoky and since it's cut up, very easy to eat. The hand rolls are great too with generous amounts of fresh fish. The breading they use for the katsu and ebi is insanely addictive. The texture is so crispy and light with the perfect amount of seasoning. I appreciate the variety of sauces I got with my ebi. And the ebi itself is massive! The green grape ade was much more sour than I expected but I still enjoyed it. The black sesame dressing is amazing and you can buy it separately for use at home too! You can also order curry sauce on the side. A must visit if you are in Closter and love katsu.

Ordered corn corn, mazemen, ebi katsu, chicken teriyaki don with strawberry bingsu for desserts. Food was over all good especially highly recommend mazemen and ebi katsu! The shrimp was so crispy and goes well with other sauces. I had to give 3/5 because the service was bad. The servers were rude like giving us receipts although we haven't done with our food yet and there was no one waiting outside. Ambiance was like family oriented styles. Strawberry bingsu was alright not the best.

Absolutely love the katsu here. It's light, perfectly crispy, and has that satisfying crunch without feeling heavy or greasy. The texture is spot-on and the flavor is clean and comforting--exactly what great katsu should be. Easily one of the best katsus I've had in New Jersey. Highly recommend if you're a katsu fan.

Domoto did not disappoint! Everything was delicious and the staff were friendly and gave good recommendations. The atmosphere is modern and casual so great for food with friends or an easy date. Tried the corn, Korean fried chicken, pork tenderloin katsu, and the hand roll set. Everything was good! Familiar Asian-based flavors with fun twists to each dish, like the cream sauce for the corn. I'd say the must try and my favorite was the katsu. The way they fry their katsu is unique! So light and crispy and the meat was really tender. Definitely would recommend!

We tried this restaurant after visiting Domodomo in Jersey City a while ago. There's are some decent kids menu. But Mazemen & Chicken Teriyaki are just too saucy. I expected the rice in all dish to be yummy as its main food is katsu & rolls. The rice, however, in every dish was too mushy. And the staff? Well, none of them checked if our food was good or even came out. My kid's food came out first, then my husband's, and lastly mine when their food was all finished. Also, if the spoons & forks now look like they've been used 1000 times, just get new ones please.

Formerly known as Sambong as recently as 8-9 months ago when they first opened, menu-wise they've stayed fairly consistent, specializing in naengmyun (cold noodles in a chilled broth), with some stews and bbq grilled items too. On a cold winter Sunday afternoon we placed our orders around 12:40 and it was ready for pick up at 1:15pm. We ordered: - 물냉면 + 목살구이 Mul Naengmyun Cold Noodle + Pork Neck BBQ $24.99: the thin noodles are super bouncy and chewy, excellent take on a summer classic! Soup and toppings hit the spot, a couple slices of beef and Asian pear, thinly slice cucumbers and pickled radish, plus half an egg. The extra side of bbq pork cheek was marinated and grilled to tender perfection. - 소고기 국밥 Spicy Guk Bap $17.99: lightly spicy beef broth with bean sprouts, scallions, and pieces of beef, served over rice. Warm and hearty Korean comfort food on a cold day. - 사골우거지된창국 Sagol Ugeoji Doenjang Guk with Rice $18.99: this beef bone broth is seasoned with fermented bean paste, a flavor somewhat similar to miso with plenty of rehydrated dried napa cabbage. A rich flavor and great over the white rice that came with it. - 돈까스 Donkatsu $19.99 and LA갈비 LA Galbi BBQ $36.99: my friends ordered these items to share with their kids. I didn't try them though they appeared to enjoy. - banchan (side dishes): about 5 or 6 small containers came with the entrees, consisting of regular napa kimchi, a couple different radish kimchis, fish cakes. The chilled kimchi was fermented goodness and went well with the hot broths, soup and rice. Would recommend!

Very flavorful but I felt like it was thicker and more doughy than I prefer. I would probably skip this for the next visit. The beef soup was delicious as well. It was just the right temperature and it was salty and savory enough without being overwhelming. We went on a particularly cold day so the hot soup really hit the spot. The pieces of beef in the soup were super tender too. Continuing the self-service theme there was a water dispenser and there was even a dispenser of broth at the pick up counter. I liked that broth even more than the broth in the beef soup. I slurped up several cups of it. I'd certainly come back.
