    Sushi Snob approved premium sushi

If you like sushi and you give Okinami anything less than 5 stars you are insane!!! This is by far the most legit sushi place in the area bar none. The regular fare is good but if you really want to go bananas the Premium and Omakase meals are ridiculous! On a side note somehow on a $75 plate of premium sushi they managed to make the star of the show their MUSHROOM nigiri? It's Amazing and even if you don't want to go all in on the premium get a piece of the mushroom then silently toast the strange Yelp reviewer for telling you about it. If I am forced to give a downside to this restaurant I will say it is expensive but with great quality comes great cost. My bank account hates this place but the sushi snob in me loves it! Also one side note on the service. I generally don't care or comment on the service as I go places for the food and if it's awesome I will deal with whatever service I get. However, I have been to Okinami multiple times and have noticed one small detail I have not seen anywhere else. I am left handed. Somehow the lady who serves us always notices this and in turn places my utensils and other things on my left side while others at my table have things placed on the right. It's a tiny touch but I notice it every time and it is awesome!

Delicious, fresh sushi! It is my favorite in the area. I've done takeout a few times and it is always great. I recommend any of the rolls! They are always efficient too.

Inside, only about 7-8 tables plus a sushi bar

After reading many reviews, I had to check the hype. Yes, the sushi quality is outstanding and you will pay for it in a price that is much higher than other standard sushi restaurants. The sushi here is also unique in you'll get some fish that you won't see at other places. Okinami is on a relatively busy road in Norwood and quite small. There are maybe 7-8 tables within, plus a sushi bar. I highly recommend takeout as they even make that an enjoyable experience (comes with dipping trays, soy sauce drippers and my platter even came with a disposable tablecloth). If you are going to try to dine in, arrive when they open. To properly sample all of the deliciousness, I opted to get my wife and I the "sushi and sashimi platter; serves 4-5". We ate the whole thing, but mind you, I can eat a lot. It was also very delicious. The platter had an exquisite variety and didn't even include some of the typical fish. I was really happy with the content. That said, I'm not going to spend $170 on a platter like this for dinner too often - maybe once or twice per year. If you want AYCE sushi, there's a place 2 blocks away. Overall though, great quality, high standards, fantastic variety with unique sushi and I was really happy with it. Plus, no "credit card fee"!

I came for lunch and the lunch special did not disappoint. The sushi lunch has the option to choose calamari, gyoza, or karaage. I chose calamari and the edamame, miso soup and salad came with the sushi as well and all for $22! 4 pc chefs choice nigiri + spicy salmon roll was amazing. Blue fin tuna, amberjack, salmon and shrimp nigiri pieces were all such high quality cuts of fish. The lean cut of blue fin tuna was buttery and tender (not as melt in your mouth like chutoro but pretty close considering it's supposed to be the leanest cut). I was stuffed by the end of lunch and couldn't finish my miso soup because of how much food came with the lunch special! It was very busy when I arrived a little past noon but I was able to be seated at the sushi counter. The chefs and wait staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The space inside is pretty small but it made for a cozy and intimate setting. Very clean in the restaurant and bathroom as well. I'll definitely be coming back for more delicious sushi and to try the items from the specials menu!

Authentic high quality sushi and with premium ingredients. Small restaurant but good vibe. We always do take out and has always enjoy our sushi set and sashimi set.

Amazing sushi!!! I've only had takeout from here a few times thanks to a friend who lives close by, but the quality is consistently excellent. The sushi platter for 4-5 people is $160 which is on the pricier side, but you definitely get a variety of unique things you normally wouldn't get at other sushi places. Definitely recommended, especially for moms who just gave birth and hasn't had sushi in a while! Great for sharing and for trying new flavors and types of sushi you haven't had before.

Class act, real hon wasabi radish not seiyo, good service and super fresh delicious fish futomaki. So delighted to have found this lovely neighborhood spot. Will return soon. The hot green tea with brown rice really hit the spot.

I was so thrilled to try Okinami when they first opened up for takeout only. I hope they've opened up their dining space since then because the sushi is just sensational! If I enjoyed their food this much in to-go containers, I can imagine it being even better served straight from the sushi chef! I can't begin to tell you how fresh the fish is. The combo is such a great set and the chef hand selects the best there is. I absolutely loved the scallop but everything was very good. Bonus was definitely the Nikiri soy sauce dripper which was both functional and adorable. Looking forward to returning for a sit down experience!

Just wow! The food and service were just spectacular! I haven't had sushi this fresh in a very long time. The lunch special is an amazing deal for the exceptional quality sushi you are getting! Trust me, this is a hidden gem.

Sushi rolls top to bottom: spicy salmon, salmon avocado. Miso soup, edamame, and chicken karage in the far right.

This place is sushi excellence. I ordered takeout for lunch with my partner. The whole meal itself cost about 40 somewhat dollars but was worth it. From chicken karage, edamame, spicy salmon roll, salmon avocado roll, and a spicy scallop roll, everything was delicious. What surprised me was that the spicy salmon and spicy scallop was served with roe, which was a delightful surprise. Everything was packaged beautifully. I also liked that they served soy sauce in tiny dopplers. They were so cute and helpful with not making a mess. The restaurant itself was clean but looks small. I ordered online. The person who I picked up the order was pleasant. I can not wait to eat in here. I can only imagine how much better everything will be.

After many to go orders - DINE IN IS FINALLY OPEN! The staff at Okinami are top notch. The environment is simple yet mindful. Have a seat at the bar and your mind will be forever changed as to why this is THE sushi place to visit. Something as simple as their salmon nigiri will blow your mind. Can't wait to visit this place over and over again!

I asked if my takeout order was ready and was told it would be "a few more minutes." After waiting approximately 15 minutes, I checked again and was given the same response. During that time, numerous dine-in customers continued to be seated, and several other customers were also waiting for takeout orders. About 10 minutes later, I asked for another update. The employee attempted to explain the timing on my receipt, but I pointed out that the estimated pickup time had already passed and that I was simply looking for an accurate status update. She went to the kitchen to check and returned with the receipt again, at which point it became clear that my order had not even been started. After waiting nearly an hour from the time I placed my order, I asked for it to be canceled and left. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened when I've ordered takeout from this restaurant. I completely understand that restaurants get busy, especially during peak dinner hours, but if the kitchen cannot keep up with both dine-in and online orders, it would be much better to temporarily disable online ordering until the backlog is under control. Other nearby restaurants, such as Okinami, do exactly that to avoid long waits and frustrated customers. The food has always been decent, but it is simply not worth waiting almost an hour for a takeout order--especially when the order hadn't even been started and I was repeatedly told it would only be "a few more minutes." I would much rather be given an honest estimate upfront than continue waiting without any meaningful update. Better communication and better management of online orders would go a long way toward improving the customer experience.

Maybe this place can be thought of as a mini DOMODOMO specializing in katsu (fried pork). The food is definitely DOMODOMO quality. Loved the pork katsu - it's fried nice and crispy and packed with flavor in each bite. Chicken katsu was also fried well and delicious. I also enjoyed the niku udon as a nice comforting noodle bowl. And sushi was also delicious and you could taste the freshness of the fish. They have a weekday lunch special but lunch portions were a bit small. Ambiance felt a little more upscale than a standard Japanese place, but not pretentious. Service was very good - waiters were very attentive. We'll be back. Gives me a reason to come back, I guess. The chicken dishes were labeled as spicy but they weren't spicy at all. In fact I found them more sweet than anything else. ALL of the sauces were sweet and I felt like they needed a little more balance, they all leaned too much on sweet. But chicken was crispy and satisfying. The Croffle and chicken dish had apples and walnuts but they were barely present and didn't add anything to the dish. The dish desperately needed a salty element to balance it. The service here was very slow. It took a long time for someone to take our order. We were barely checked on. Server was nice once she actually came but it was hard to get anyone's attention to order or ask questions. Food was good though! Ambiance was casual but elevated.
