Delicious, fresh sushi! It is my favorite in the area. I've done takeout a few times and it is always great. I recommend any of the rolls! They are always efficient too.

After reading many reviews, I had to check the hype. Yes, the sushi quality is outstanding and you will pay for it in a price that is much higher than other standard sushi restaurants. The sushi here is also unique in you'll get some fish that you won't see at other places. Okinami is on a relatively busy road in Norwood and quite small. There are maybe 7-8 tables within, plus a sushi bar. I highly recommend takeout as they even make that an enjoyable experience (comes with dipping trays, soy sauce drippers and my platter even came with a disposable tablecloth). If you are going to try to dine in, arrive when they open. To properly sample all of the deliciousness, I opted to get my wife and I the "sushi and sashimi platter; serves 4-5". We ate the whole thing, but mind you, I can eat a lot. It was also very delicious. The platter had an exquisite variety and didn't even include some of the typical fish. I was really happy with the content. That said, I'm not going to spend $170 on a platter like this for dinner too often - maybe once or twice per year. If you want AYCE sushi, there's a place 2 blocks away. Overall though, great quality, high standards, fantastic variety with unique sushi and I was really happy with it. Plus, no "credit card fee"!

I came for lunch and the lunch special did not disappoint. The sushi lunch has the option to choose calamari, gyoza, or karaage. I chose calamari and the edamame, miso soup and salad came with the sushi as well and all for $22! 4 pc chefs choice nigiri + spicy salmon roll was amazing. Blue fin tuna, amberjack, salmon and shrimp nigiri pieces were all such high quality cuts of fish. The lean cut of blue fin tuna was buttery and tender (not as melt in your mouth like chutoro but pretty close considering it's supposed to be the leanest cut). I was stuffed by the end of lunch and couldn't finish my miso soup because of how much food came with the lunch special! It was very busy when I arrived a little past noon but I was able to be seated at the sushi counter. The chefs and wait staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The space inside is pretty small but it made for a cozy and intimate setting. Very clean in the restaurant and bathroom as well. I'll definitely be coming back for more delicious sushi and to try the items from the specials menu!

Authentic high quality sushi and with premium ingredients. Small restaurant but good vibe. We always do take out and has always enjoy our sushi set and sashimi set.

Amazing sushi!!! I've only had takeout from here a few times thanks to a friend who lives close by, but the quality is consistently excellent. The sushi platter for 4-5 people is $160 which is on the pricier side, but you definitely get a variety of unique things you normally wouldn't get at other sushi places. Definitely recommended, especially for moms who just gave birth and hasn't had sushi in a while! Great for sharing and for trying new flavors and types of sushi you haven't had before.

Class act, real hon wasabi radish not seiyo, good service and super fresh delicious fish futomaki. So delighted to have found this lovely neighborhood spot. Will return soon. The hot green tea with brown rice really hit the spot.

I was so thrilled to try Okinami when they first opened up for takeout only. I hope they've opened up their dining space since then because the sushi is just sensational! If I enjoyed their food this much in to-go containers, I can imagine it being even better served straight from the sushi chef! I can't begin to tell you how fresh the fish is. The combo is such a great set and the chef hand selects the best there is. I absolutely loved the scallop but everything was very good. Bonus was definitely the Nikiri soy sauce dripper which was both functional and adorable. Looking forward to returning for a sit down experience!

Just wow! The food and service were just spectacular! I haven't had sushi this fresh in a very long time. The lunch special is an amazing deal for the exceptional quality sushi you are getting! Trust me, this is a hidden gem.

Sushi rolls top to bottom: spicy salmon, salmon avocado. Miso soup, edamame, and chicken karage in the far right.

This place is sushi excellence. I ordered takeout for lunch with my partner. The whole meal itself cost about 40 somewhat dollars but was worth it. From chicken karage, edamame, spicy salmon roll, salmon avocado roll, and a spicy scallop roll, everything was delicious. What surprised me was that the spicy salmon and spicy scallop was served with roe, which was a delightful surprise. Everything was packaged beautifully. I also liked that they served soy sauce in tiny dopplers. They were so cute and helpful with not making a mess. The restaurant itself was clean but looks small. I ordered online. The person who I picked up the order was pleasant. I can not wait to eat in here. I can only imagine how much better everything will be.

After many to go orders - DINE IN IS FINALLY OPEN! The staff at Okinami are top notch. The environment is simple yet mindful. Have a seat at the bar and your mind will be forever changed as to why this is THE sushi place to visit. Something as simple as their salmon nigiri will blow your mind. Can't wait to visit this place over and over again!

Encouraged by several posts on local Facebook groups raving about Asahi Sushi's 'all-you-can-eat' option, I recently visited with a large group (four adults and two children). The service was exceptional -- we were seated right away at one of the large group tables, the staff was very responsive, and a massive amount of food which barely fit on the table arrived surprisingly quickly. Diners can order sushi rolls and sashimi as well as a variety of freshly-made traditional Japanese dishes (teriyaki, tempura, etc.) either à la carte (paying for each item ordered) or on an 'all-you-can-eat' (AYCE) basis ($28 for lunch or dinner on Monday through Thursday; $30 for lunch or dinner on Friday through Sunday and holidays). AYCE includes soup, salad, hot and cold appetizers, sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, and even ice cream or tempura bananas and oreos (if you have room for it after your meal). Even if you're not in the mood for a heavy meal, I still recommend the AYCE option if you're going to order more than two of the premium sushi rolls (which range from $14 to $15 apiece). There's no limit to the number of orders you can place, but it's best to pace yourself by ordering a few items at a time. We ordered a LOT of food for our group, including several hot and cold appetizers, katsu chicken, sashimi, and special rolls. While the quality and freshness of the ingredients was obvious, the overall experience definitely put an emphasis on quantity over quality. I tried the Kiss of Fire roll (made with tuna, salmon, and yellowtail topped with avocado and spicy mayo) and the Outstanding Roll (made with spicy tuna and avocado topped with pepper tuna). Both were perfectly acceptable, but they felt uninspired and lacked the distinct flavor or 'wow factor' that makes a sushi place a true destination. My meal definitely wasn't bad -- the service was great, our large order was served very quickly, and no one got sick. I'd give it 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 stars. It's a solid, consistent option if you are in the Norwood area, especially for families or large groups. However, it didn't quite live up to the 'must-visit' hype for me. I'd return for the convenience and value, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. PRO TIP: Bring a bottle of wine or beer from home or stop at 86 & Vine right across Livingston Street to enjoy with your meal. Asahi is a BYOB establishment and does not serve alcohol.

Looking at the menu, I saw that they also offered a full Japanese selection with loads of sushi options. Everything sounded great, and I got excited for our meal. When we arrived, I was very impressed by the atmosphere, which was stylish, modern, and spacious. Our waitress was fine, but seemed to have a bit of a chip on her shoulder. Regardless, the food was excellent! The place was BYOB, but did have a Shirley Temple on the beverage section of the menu, which I thought was a cute alternative. As I mentioned, the food options were vast, which made it tough to decide how to proceed. In the end, I decided to get a single piece of sushi and a full Chinese entree. The piece of Eel Sushi I ordered was delivered as sashimi. When I noted the difference to the server, she looked at me like I was nuts, but asked if I wanted a bed of rice to put the fish on...I just said to forget it, since I already had a side of rice with my entree. It was just a weird exchange, but the eel was fresh and delicious. For my main course, I went with the Chicken and Eggplant with Spicy Garlic Basil Sauce and a side of brown rice. The meat was tender, the sauce had just the right amount of heat, and it was all just so flavorful! Plus, the portion was very generous. I tried a bite of the Spicy Asian Flower Herbs Chicken, which was noted as being "wok-sauteed in high flame for extreme spice". The diced chicken with red peppers and snap peas had been cooked with Szechuan peppercorns, but, thankfully, none of actual peppercorns were in the dish. So, there was certainly a level of spice, but actually not a ton of heat. It was really tasty, though! The rest of our party also enjoyed their meals, whether they were from Japanese or Chinese cuisine. The only issue was that it's a little awkward being the only table in the restaurant and sitting at the sushi bar... Cause we had like eight people attending us and looking at us and listening to our every word. But you can look at it in another way and assume it felt like more of a private dining experience, which is cool. Because it was our first time there, we didn't wanna opt for the Omakase because my husband and I have had mediocre Omakase experiences and they don't come cheap. And something we didn't realize that this place does, that many other Omakase places don't do, is make their sauces in house to pair with the fish. A lot of omakase spots locally don't care to make a budget for sauces when they can get it ready made. A huge unique selling point of this place was at each sauce was separately made and stored in different containers to pair with the fish it was intended for... And when the chef had mentioned that a lot of Omakase places don't do this, It made a lot of sense. We ordered the Hamachi Jalapeño, tuna Crispy rice, tuna 5 ways, single nigiri pieces of sea bream and mackerel on my side and my husband ordered more basic pieces which I can't recall. We also Ordered the Hokkaido scallop cucumber roll. As soon as we tried the apps, we regretted not doing the omakase just because we knew it was gonna be that good. For Context, I haven't found any place in New Jersey that felt like a go to sushi spot that had high-quality fish, incredible pairings and seemingly consistent. The Hamachi jalapeño were bigger cuts of tuna with like this jalapeño paste sauce. It was amazing and proper spicy. No addtl sauce needed. The crispy rice tuna was insane. The hot rice paired with the cold tuna and their fixings were amazing. It didn't look like much, but it packed a huge punch of flavor. I think it might be the wasabi they use But both the wasabi and soy sauce were insanely good The tuna way of our little attempt at omakase ish. They gave you four pieces of Nigiri ( 2 being fatty tuna pieces) And a chopped tuna hand roll. I'm a texture person so I wasn't a fan of the hand, but each piece of tuna was better than the next. The fatty ones were insanely melty and lovely And I just really goes to show that I don't think I've had good high quality, fresh sushi or fish from many places Because no place matched up to this. I had ordered a piece of sea bream which was insanely good. I've never tried anything like that before and if I could, I would order 20 of those alone. The mackerel was really good and not fishy at all as well. The Hokkaido scallop Cucumber roll was very simple, but packed a huge bunch of flavor when you dipped it in the spicy sauce that it was paired with alongside a soy sauce wasabi combo. You could taste the quality and freshness. I was drinking a glass of sparkling wine... The wine was fine before I had the sushi... But drinking a sip while eating my sushi totally changed my palette as the sparkling wine paired so well that it became sweet. Last, but not least the miso cheesecake - Absolutely incredible and made in house. We ordered two more to go And they thought we were joking. That's how good it was. I don't miss New York City when I have sushi from places like this.
