The inside is decorated to be more "fine dining" but overall the service was really good. The spicy tuna roll was okay, the scallops didn't really add much, and it lacked flavor. This place does standard teriyaki dishes and sushi well. I very much enjoyed the bento box, my favorite dish being the vegetable tempura. If that's what you're in the mood for I definitely recommend coming here. The atmosphere is pleasant, seats at tables comfortable and service quick and friendly. Traveled south to Olympia for the day for an appointment. Decided to check out some of the local grub. Happy I chose this sushi joint, and so sad they don't have one in Seattle! I will start by saying that I am a sushi snob. I'm from Hawaii and our supermarket poke bowls are a staple as fresh fish is a norm. This place far exceeded my expectations and I would definitely recommend! I got the Chutoro sashimi, a set of sake nigiri, and agedashi tofu. The chutoro was delectable and fresh. The taste and texture were perfect. The salmon was nice and buttery, and agedashi tofu hit the spot. Service was awesome as well. I saw the outstanding reviews and people are 100% accurate that this place ROCKs! The service was great, the food arrived to our table crazy fast, like 8 minutes tops?!? We had a few specialty rolls including the blue fin tuna (chutoro) and it melted in our mouth, so fresh, so good. We also had a bento box, so much food, had to take some home. This was all I could have hoped for in a sushi restaurant.. It is sit and dine, table service, where the sushi chefs roll in the front. Each table has a custom fresh flower arrangement. The sushi choices were plentiful, quality and unique. They serve yummy bubble tea and saki, wine and beer. Complimentary miso soup is also offered. We ordered a unique appetizer- the rice egg roll. It was great, and something I've never seen on a menu before, but perhaps a bit filling for an appetizer. We enjoyed unique rolls like the Waterfall, Caprese and Kiwi Rolls. They even have Banana Rolls, Blueberry Rolls and Strawberry rolls which is fruit on top of a California roll. I would certainly come here again on a future trip to Olympia. They are handling to COVID-19 crisis the way a business should! Their food choices are very good and they throw in some non-Japanese foods (like a version of General Tso's chicken) for those with more timid palates. The decor is great; the people are invariably helpful - I could go on. But as a physician, I cannot over-state how properly they are handling the important task of preparing food for us in a way that reduces our risks, and their risks, of acquiring coronavirus. They clearly care about it, and are doing it right. They have a place to park to pick up food; they have physical barriers (plexiglass), hand sanitizer, wipes and they do it right (for example, there is a right and a wrong way (and time) to clean one's hands, ATM cards, etc.) After signing on their screen, she directed me to their hand sanitizer to clean my hands, and then immediately cleaned the screen I had just touched. This alone deserves 5 stars but the food earns it too. Go check them out, and if you run another business and you're snooping on your competitors to see what sorts of Yelp reviews they are getting? Dined here for the first time, with a group that had chosen this restaurant. Though not a sushi eater myself, there were a number of cooked dishes to choose from, that I greatly enjoyed. The others I. My group all enjoyed their various sushi choices. My only complaint (a personal one) is that the courses arrived rather quickly. In future I'd ask to have my meal paced out more slowly. First things first. Asahi sushi has some of the best wait staff to ever exist. The first time I arrived I was with friends and we didn't have a reservation on a busy night and they still squeezed us in in a table in the back. Their presentation? Beyond wonderful. I've gone there a few times there and each time I bring someone new. The restaurant vibe is so nice feeling too, I love their restaurant so much. My husband loves fatty white tuna, mainly the escolar and this place does it the best! My favorite roll is the Albacore Special Roll and the kids love the karaage, gyoza and California rolls. This is the highest rated sushi restaurant in the Lacey, Olympia area so we decided to try it. Husband said that he had the best rolls in a really long time. He ordered one of the HOT ones (sorry, can't recall the name) as well as the tostada. I asked for a salmon skin cut roll, TWICE, and received a hand roll instead. It was very messy and difficult to eat. I also ordered some maguro nigiri, which was eight dollars, and the pieces were tiny. Salad was very good as well as the miso soup. Will possibly try again. For all the seemingly woken prep (non-traditional-to-outright off/odd ingredients), this restaurant has terrible food quality. As in: do not go there if you appreciate fresh sushi, or hygiene. Looks very clean inside, warm atmosphere. I so wanted this place to work. Being from SF/Bay Area, I do appreciate fresh sushi. So after four times of not getting it, I finally decided to alert the community. Beware, they will not change out your order without making a fuss (though their fault.). They were angry when I pointed out what we concluded to be a rat hair in the food. Then someone asked very pointedly for a vegan roll/no egg. When it came with egg, the server picked out the egg with her hands and even admitted to doing so. No one wanted to finish after that happened. Third times a charm right? Nope. This time ordered a sashimi salad with salmon. It was filled with fatty disgusting salmon that was not chewable. 4) We are very patient diners, and wanted to try one last time. So moving forward with hope - we ordered *cooked* salmon, thinking it would be a safe bet. I truly have never been served the fishy-smelling, very clearly old salmon. The server attempted to convince me I 'wasn't feeling well' and I found that to be offensive too, as we'd been very patient with this restaurant and were return customers (who did not complain the previous 3 mishaps described above.). We just thought, really you're going to blame your old fish on customers who give you a 20% tip each time? She asked sullenly (as though she lost the chance to pass along old fish that was destined for the bin), if I 'want anything else'. No apology. She angrily placed the menu in front of me. I said quickly, as to not cause her further upset that may result in more bad food, 'Uh no thanks.' Without a word, she took the menu and left. My son and husband were left to watch me sit with no food. Finally we just left. I hope no one else has these terrible experiences, because aside from being really rude and unsafe, they charge premium prices for everything- trying to play up the freshness (ironically, and those weird ingredients are not good tasting substitutes.).
