    Shakshouka Croissant - Astonishingly Flavorful!!
    Shannon R.

The coffee was fine, nothing too exciting, but the shakshouka croissant blew my mind. At almost $10 a piece--ouch!--I started with pretty high expectations and it still blew me away. The flavor was the most incredible, rich, umami, tomato-chipotle-eque, goodness I've ever tasted. Each bite was punchy, balanced, and exciting! Based on the price, I probably won't be back soon, but it did leave me feeling inspired to try more shakshouka . They were incredibly busy despite being so pricey, so I totally get it, it's just a bit out of my preferred price range for a cafe. Super tasty though, so if you aren't on a strict budget, definitely give it a whirl

Warm and cozy Jewish inspired bakery. Very solid Matcha latte and one of their puff pastries filled with spinach (I'm forgetting what the name of it was) was delicious.

Carrot Cake - Slice + Black & White Sesame Tahini Cookie

Asaro is amazing!! They have free wifi so it's a great place to work, relax, or catch up with friends. We really love the sandwiches & pastries here. Everything is baked fresh in-house so the quality is consistently good. The staff is always so kind too. Out of their menu, I would definitely recommend giving their sesame tahini cookies a try! These cookies have nice crispy exteriors and delicious chewy centers. Strong sesame flavor too. If you're feeling savory, you really can't go wrong with their egg sandwich or schnitzel sandwich. Their homemade challah is divine. Overall, definitely one of my favorite cafes around Cambridge.

Dried Fruit Pulled Chicken Thigh Sandwich

Tucked just outside of Harvard, this bakery has tons of savory and sweet Jewish-inspired foods with a modern twist. I ordered the dried fruit chicken thigh sandwich served on challah. The sandwich could easily be split between two people! The chicken was savory with a hint of sweetness from the dried apricot- I loved it! We came on a weekday afternoon and there were a couple of tables open, with plenty of outlets nearby for laptop use.

This is a nice cafe in Cambridge with plenty of options. We tried the mocha which was smooth with a rich chocolate and a nice flavor. The boreka egg, cheese, onion sandwich was good but could have been heated more. The cookie was soft with ample rich chocolate with flakes of sea salt.

    Chocolate Chip Cookie

Only had the chocolate chip cookie, but what a cookie! Good chocolate and great dough holding it-- they "get" that the dough is more than just a vessel for the chocolate, they "get" that butter is more important for deliciousness than sugar, and they "get" that salt can add to the experience but is best in small doses. This is a balanced cookie that I consider one of the best in greater Boston.

Omelette & mixed greens sandwich on croissant, tiramisu, jungle tea (just lots mint & hot water)
    Amy X.

Unique food, desserts, and drinks that all look / sound amazing. The omelette sandwich, including a healthy dose of mixed greens, was nice on a large square-ish croissant - the kind with delicate vertical crisps that makes me drool. The tiramisu was on point. You'd think with all the Italian heritage in Boston there'd be tons of good tiramisu. But I've been disappointed with the ok but not amazing tiramisu at Eataly, Mike's Pastry, Tatte, etc. This one at Asaro was just the right balance of cream and coffee, well mixed textures, and not too sweet. The "jungle tea" - a ton of fresh mint with hot water - was the first I've seen anywhere. I enjoyed it much more than a mint mojito coffee because I really just wanted the hot drink with mint, not the coffee. Would be 5 stars except: - booth was uncomfortably high and significantly higher than the chairs so pairs' heights were weirdly mismatched. - most of the desserts and pastries were huge and much pricier than other bakeries. They looked good but the overwhelming size and prices discouraged me from trying some I'd have loved to get if sized and priced down proportionately

    Chicken Sandwich

The interior is elegant and inspiring. Beautifully decorated with gold frames and Renaissance-style decor. There are several seatings, and they do provide WiFi. Unfortunately, it was jam-packed when I visited, and it didn't feel like the kind of place where you could comfortably get work done, unlike other cafes. I tried their chicken sandwich, and while it was delicious, it didn't quite fit my personal taste, as I usually prefer food with bold flavors. The sandwich was on the bland side for me, but I wouldn't mind eating it again, especially if this is the best that they have on the menu.

    Carrot Cake - Individual

it was good until i found a piece of sponge in my Carrot Cake they have wifi, chai was nice, carrot cake...

    Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie.

On paper, this should be a lower rating - most of the items I had didn't blown me away. But I LOVED the customer service and overall vibes in this place and they ultimately carried the day. My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I had an Airbnb less than a block away, and when it turned out we somehow got our second Airbnb in a row without actual coffee (the world is truly going to hell in a handbasket) it didn't end up mattering too much. I ended up coming by both mornings we were here (last Saturday and Sunday), because of proximity and also a convenient opening time of 7am (as an unapologetic hardcore morning person, it's hard to find coffee establishments open before 8am when I'm chomping at the bit to start my day's adventures). There were customers on the premises on the two visits but it wasn't overwhelming. A big reason for that is the interior is pretty spacious with a decent seating area to the left of the entrance, and it's just a pleasant atmosphere - there's a lot of white painted exposed brick with what look to be subtle homages to European cafes. I liked it a lot and was really comfortable in here. Caffeine is important so I ordered vanilla lattes on each visit, and also got their yogurt parfait (hard to eat quasi-healthy on a trip like this), a brown butter chocolate chip cookie and a broccoli cheese Danish or something very equivalent. The cookie was great - I'd like to see more brown butter usage on the pastry landscape going forward. It's a big cookie so it took a few visits to our temporary kitchen to finish it off. The parfait was okay; it had more quinoa/chia/seed vibes than the standard granola I'm used to, but my biggest issue was that the serving size of the granola mix dwarfed the yogurt so most of the bites were overwhelming missing some crunch. I would double the size of the accompanying mix. The only real miss for me was the Danish and I'm willing to acknowledge it was at least partially a taste/personal palate issue more so than anything else. In hindsight, I think I at least should have gotten that heated up - the cheese seemed overwhelming tangy, if that makes sense, and I think an overall warmer pastry would have negated the extreme tastes for me. The service was fantastic. It took a minute or so to get my bearings when I first walked in (trying to figure out where to order, where all of the relevant drinks/items I might be interested in were, etc.), but every employee I encountered was very friendly and welcoming. It made a significant impression and was easily the main reason I came back with my chum the next morning. We love a good intangible. I don't know the next time I'll be in the area (we forgot to reenact a few scenes from Good Will Hunting, so you never know), but I'm making this a stop again on principle.

I spent the morning wandering around Cambridge and I found this bakery while on my way from Harvard to MIT. There are tons of tables inside to sit and enjoy our treat/meal/drink. It is not too loud so you can definitely do some work here. The bakery has so many treats and various drinks. I love a good Jerusalem bagel so I had to have it when I saw it. The staff were so kind and friendly. I felt welcomed the moment I walked in. They did not make me feel uncomfortable at all, even with my loud luggage that I was hauling around haha. The service was quick and I got the Jerusalem bagel and was on my way to MIT. The bagel itself was such a treat. Everything I needed for my day of wandering. It was soft and airy. I had half on my adventure and the rest on the plane. It was still soft Even after a few hours! I am lucky that they are not closer to Boston or else I would be getting it everyday when I am visiting for work...but also I am sad that they are not closer to Boston because I want it every time I am there for work.

    Barely there Egg Salad Sandwich
    Kristen B.

How does this place have so many good reviews? The egg salad sandwich had the littlest smear of egg salad and was mostly bread, which was stale. The egg salad tasted good but there should've been more of it. And the matcha I got had a very bitter aftertaste. All around disappointing.

    Cinnamon Roll
    Olivia K.

What a pleasant surprise! I stopped by while I was in the area, and literally everything looked so good! I only picked up the guava cream cheese bun and the cinnamon roll and possibly the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. So moist, sweet and perfect cinnamon-y flavor. Also, all staff were so friendly! I'd definitely come by again to try their other sweets:)

We had such a hard time choosing and settled on the walnut baklava roll and the muska kataifi pisatchio. Everyone working there was so friendly and helpful and even with a line out the door, they were able to keep things moving smoothly. They also gave us small chai samples while we waited to be helped (the chai was spicy and not overly sweet). The baklava and kataifi were perfect -- no notes. Baklava had a great ratio of flaky pastry layers to walnuts. Each bite had the right about of crunch and nuttiness. The amount of syrup used was just right also. Kataifi struck a similarly great balance: a crunchy and sweet shredded wheat exterior rounded out by the richness of pistachios. I wish I could come here all the time and try everything. Definitely keeping this place bookmarked for any future trips to Boston.

Walked in and was greeted with a sample of chai and 2 sample desserts. Ordered the chocolate pistachio cake, This was like Dubai chocolate styled cake with the kataifi in the pistachio. This was nice, I personally could have done without the layer of chocolate on top since it's so hard to break evenly and it was thick in texture to the rest of the cake. The pistachio ricotta cake was phenomenal. I wasn't expecting it to be so light and airy, I had to hold myself back from inhaling the whole thing at once. Both were shared and I got a baklava for my personal treat. I'll be back again very soon!

G.O.A.T.: My first time trying it, I opted for the Classic English Muffin. The crust is pan-fried, not baked, giving it a slightly crispy texture without being hard, reminiscent of cornbread in a Northeastern Chinese tieguodun鐵鍋燉 (iron pot stew). The inside is soft, chewy, and perfectly moist, with a slightly sticky texture when combined with the sauce. A muffin unlike any I've ever had! The goat cheese butter flavor is rich, the pesto provides a mild nutty aroma, and the unique fragrance of arugula instantly evokes the slightly excessive sunshine of the Mediterranean. I was staying with my sister, who had never been here but had seen it featured on Phantom Gourmet. My TikTok research had also put this spot in the top two for breakfast sandwiches, and it was only the next town over, so we had to give it a try. We lucked out and found parking right in front, then headed inside. I was immediately intrigued by the Anadama English muffin because it reminded me of a brown bread I grew up with in Massachusetts. If you've had the brown bread at Cheesecake Factory, it's somewhat similar, but less sweet, less dark and more complex (an "adult" version if you will). They also had a rotating monthly special, a Portuguese English muffin, which was very tempting. In the end, we stuck to our original plan and ordered a breakfast sandwich on the Anadama muffin with egg, ham, and cheese. Whoa. This thing was rich, hearty, and absolutely delicious. It was one of those sandwiches that makes you stop talking for a minute and just appreciate what you're eating. Honestly, I almost wished I had a hangover because it would have been the ultimate cure. The Anadama muffin completely lived up to my expectations. If I lived nearby, I would absolutely buy a four pack once or twice a month and keep them in the freezer. A fantastic breakfast sandwich and well worth the trip. Sadly there are no bathrooms, which seems strange for a coffee shop, but luckily the general store next door is same owners and opened just as we were leaving and could not have been nicer about letting us use the facilities.
