Lowkey becoming one of my new favorite bakeries in Boston! I've been a couple of times now and everything I've tried has been so good. The banana bread is probably one of my favorites. It was super soft and moist, and the portion was huge! I also tried the shakshuka croissant and loved it. It was flaky, savory, and really filling. The pastries are definitely a little on the pricier side, but the portions are pretty big, so I feel like you get a good amount for what you pay. Their latte was also sooo delicious and paired really well with the pastries. Definitely recommend coming in the morning if you can because everything tastes so fresh! I went back once later in the evening and noticed the banana bread wasn't quite as soft as when I had it earlier in the day. I want to start of by saying that all of the workers are amazing and very attentive to any of your needs. The reason why I give it three stars is due to price, atmosphere, and taste. Price wise, it's very expensive. Be prepared to spend north of 20$ if you get a drink with a sandwich. I got an orange juice thinking it was fresh made, and it tasted just like orange juice you would get from a grocery store. Atmosphere wise, I saw next to two college students that just yapped about politics the entire time. It wasn't a normal conversation, it was an all out debate that I didnt want to hear on a Saturday morning. The coffee was fine, nothing too exciting, but the shakshouka croissant blew my mind. At almost $10 a piece--ouch!--I started with pretty high expectations and it still blew me away. The flavor was the most incredible, rich, umami, tomato-chipotle-eque, goodness I've ever tasted. Each bite was punchy, balanced, and exciting! Based on the price, I probably won't be back soon, but it did leave me feeling inspired to try more shakshouka . They were incredibly busy despite being so pricey, so I totally get it, it's just a bit out of my preferred price range for a cafe. Yum! Fresh pastries! My boyfriend and I wanted a quick breakfast and decided to try Asaro bakery. The place has tons of seating but it's also very busy and popular. There were some yummy looking pastries displayed beautifully behind a table counter and it was very hard to decide what to try. We each picked a pastry to share and I was excited that they had iced matcha so I ordered that and my boyfriend got their decaf cappuccino. We were lucky to find a table for two and quickly sat down. You have to pick up your coffee order by the front entrance where their Expresso machine is and it's kind of in the way of people in line ordering so it was a little hectic. But once I picked up our coffees we were good to go. The egg croissant sandwich which very good! It had a very tasty aioli sauce and sliced onion. The pistachio pastry was sweet and also very good. My matcha was delicious and I only wish they had a super size option because I would of ordered that! Breakfast was yummy and filling. Asaro is amazing!! They have free wifi so it's a great place to work, relax, or catch up with friends. We really love the sandwiches & pastries here. Everything is baked fresh in-house so the quality is consistently good. The staff is always so kind too. Out of their menu, I would definitely recommend giving their sesame tahini cookies a try! These cookies have nice crispy exteriors and delicious chewy centers. Strong sesame flavor too. If you're feeling savory, you really can't go wrong with their egg sandwich or schnitzel sandwich. Tucked just outside of Harvard, this bakery has tons of savory and sweet Jewish-inspired foods with a modern twist. I ordered the dried fruit chicken thigh sandwich served on challah. The sandwich could easily be split between two people! The chicken was savory with a hint of sweetness from the dried apricot- I loved it! Only had the chocolate chip cookie, but what a cookie! Good chocolate and great dough holding it-- they "get" that the dough is more than just a vessel for the chocolate, they "get" that butter is more important for deliciousness than sugar, and they "get" that salt can add to the experience but is best in small doses. The pastries are wicked expensive, but the almond croissant is so good that it's worth the price. The coffee is mediocre. My real complaint concerns their ordering logistics. After enjoying that almond croissant, I went back the next day to get another. It was lunch time, and there were about 15 people crammed into the small space in front of the register and in front of the pastry case, either waiting to place orders or to pick up their orders or both. No system. Noisy chaos. After waiting about 15 minutes, I left. There should be someone to take quick pastry or coffee orders such as "One almond croissant, please" and get people out the door. Unique food, desserts, and drinks that all look / sound amazing. The omelette sandwich, including a healthy dose of mixed greens, was nice on a large square-ish croissant - the kind with delicate vertical crisps that makes me drool. The tiramisu was on point. You'd think with all the Italian heritage in Boston there'd be tons of good tiramisu. But I've been disappointed with the ok but not amazing tiramisu at Eataly, Mike's Pastry, Tatte, etc. This one at Asaro was just the right balance of cream and coffee, well mixed textures, and not too sweet. The "jungle tea" - a ton of fresh mint with hot water - was the first I've seen anywhere. I enjoyed it much more than a mint mojito coffee because I really just wanted the hot drink with mint, not the coffee. My order: Cortado with 2% milk The Review: Holy moly. The rumors are true--Asaro is a tiny bit pricier than competitors. HOWEVER, it is SO worth it. Their espresso was delicious and dark and smooth. Paired perfectly with the bit of milk in the cortado. They even have a gluten free chocolate fudge cookie that I have my eye on for next time. With loads of Mediterranean dishes, the rest of their menu looks insane. Even the vibes were great; my barista was really nice and other employees were chatting with customers. The interior is elegant and inspiring. Beautifully decorated with gold frames and Renaissance-style decor. There are several seatings, and they do provide WiFi. Unfortunately, it was jam-packed when I visited, and it didn't feel like the kind of place where you could comfortably get work done, unlike other cafes. I tried their chicken sandwich, and while it was delicious, it didn't quite fit my personal taste, as I usually prefer food with bold flavors. Came back to try their cinnamon roll- it was jumbo sized but honestly a little bit too sweet for me. I wish it was more of a cream cheese frosting instead of icing I believe. I tried to get it warmed up but the person said it had just come out of the oven so it was good. I didn't realize she only meant that it was fresh not warm, so I'd definitely try to warm it up next time. I also tried the hot chocolate and it was delectable. There were even pieces of chocolate inside so you can tell it's a high quality hot chocolate. The inside of the cafe was too busy for us to sit which was a bummer. On paper, this should be a lower rating - most of the items I had didn't blown me away. But I LOVED the customer service and overall vibes in this place and they ultimately carried the day. My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I had an Airbnb less than a block away, and when it turned out we somehow got our second Airbnb in a row without actual coffee (the world is truly going to hell in a handbasket) it didn't end up mattering too much. I ended up coming by both mornings we were here (last Saturday and Sunday), because of proximity and also a convenient opening time of 7am (as an unapologetic hardcore morning person, it's hard to find coffee establishments open before 8am when I'm chomping at the bit to start my day's adventures). There were customers on the premises on the two visits but it wasn't overwhelming. A big reason for that is the interior is pretty spacious with a decent seating area to the left of the entrance, and it's just a pleasant atmosphere - there's a lot of white painted exposed brick with what look to be subtle homages to European cafes. I liked it a lot and was really comfortable in here. Caffeine is important so I ordered vanilla lattes on each visit, and also got their yogurt parfait (hard to eat quasi-healthy on a trip like this), a brown butter chocolate chip cookie and a broccoli cheese Danish or something very equivalent. The cookie was great - I'd like to see more brown butter usage on the pastry landscape going forward. It's a big cookie so it took a few visits to our temporary kitchen to finish it off. The parfait was okay; it had more quinoa/chia/seed vibes than the standard granola I'm used to, but my biggest issue was that the serving size of the granola mix dwarfed the yogurt so most of the bites were overwhelming missing some crunch. I would double the size of the accompanying mix. The only real miss for me was the Danish and I'm willing to acknowledge it was at least partially a taste/personal palate issue more so than anything else. In hindsight, I think I at least should have gotten that heated up - the cheese seemed overwhelming tangy, if that makes sense, and I think an overall warmer pastry would have negated the extreme tastes for me. The service was fantastic. It took a minute or so to get my bearings when I first walked in (trying to figure out where to order, where all of the relevant drinks/items I might be interested in were, etc.), but every employee I encountered was very friendly and welcoming. It made a significant impression and was easily the main reason I came back with my chum the next morning. We love a good intangible. I don't know the next time I'll be in the area (we forgot to reenact a few scenes from Good Will Hunting, so you never know), but I'm making this a stop again on principle. read more

I spent the morning wandering around Cambridge and I found this bakery while on my way from Harvard to MIT. There are tons of tables inside to sit and enjoy our treat/meal/drink. It is not too loud so you can definitely do some work here. The bakery has so many treats and various drinks. I love a good Jerusalem bagel so I had to have it when I saw it. The staff were so kind and friendly. I felt welcomed the moment I walked in. They did not make me feel uncomfortable at all, even with my loud luggage that I was hauling around haha. The service was quick and I got the Jerusalem bagel and was on my way to MIT. The bagel itself was such a treat. Everything I needed for my day of wandering. It was soft and airy. I had half on my adventure and the rest on the plane. It was still soft Even after a few hours! I am lucky that they are not closer to Boston or else I would be getting it everyday when I am visiting for work...but also I am sad that they are not closer to Boston because I want it every time I am there for work. read more

Really cute cafe sitting in Cambridge on a busy street. Once you step inside you're transported into a rustic atmosphere that's calm, friendly, and smells incredible. I opted to go for tea instead of my normal latte, the brand of oatmilk they use is not one I'm a fan of (normally an Oatly gal) but the tea selection was plenty and I enjoyed the Spring Tea - vegetal, bright and cleansing. Their variety of plates that come in generous portions and desserts that seem mega sized cover much of the pallete from dense chocolate chip cookies to gluten free chocolate marshmallow puffs. I could see this as a great work-away cafe with comfortable spaces to tuck in with your laptop. My biggest issue was the impossible parking situation, I truly don't think I'd be able to come often due to the difficulty to access - which sweetly keeps this more of a neighborhood affair but sadly not a frequent flyer for me! We arrived on Saturday around noon and the cafe was packed to the brim. I decided to grab a cheese bureka and chococlate chip cookie to try out. The bureka had a nice roasted flavor to it due to all the sesame seeds. I also really enjoyed the cheese filling inside. The pastry was crispy on the outside but soft and flaky on the inside. It was a great savory pastry without being overwhelming. The chocolate chip cookie was great after being warmed up. There was plenty of chocolate oozing out, but it was not too sweet. It definitely satisfies the craving though I wouldn't say that it is the absolutely best cookie I have had. The workers were very attentive and ready to take your order. Asaro is an absolute hidden(ish) gem -- I'd describe it as akin to Tatte before Tatte became mainstream / lost its charm to scale. The space is decently large and clean, with many tables and space for catching up with friends, working, or just enjoying a coffee and pastry solo. We ordered a "Not So Classic Egg Sandwich" and were amazed by the massive portion size -- each of its halves could have been their own sandwich. The combination of flavors was incredible, soft scrambled eggs with a tomato glaze and caramelized onions on a house-made challah. Would highly recommend and made me excited to try some of their other sandwiches for lunch some time. We also got a (massive) slice of their blueberry bread pudding from the pastry case. I liked the sesame seeds strewn throughout the inside and the crust on top. My only notes would be it should be served warm (we asked them to heat it up, which they kindly did) and it was slightly dry so could have potentially benefitted from some sort of pour over sauce. Cambridge just won the lottery with this lovely bakery/cafe that has just opened up on Cambridge street! I'd been hearing all about this bakery for the past couple of weeks and finally made my way on a rainy monday morning to check it out. To begin, the space itself is a delight When you walk through the doors, you are greeted with a large, high ceiling, open air kitchen concept. Only a counter with the most ooey gooey looking pastries and a coffee machine separate the customers from the kitchen. The space boasts high ceilings and a kind of vintage Versailles meets rustic barn style of decor. Smooth and cozy jazz rings throughout the cafe. It's a space perfect for both taking out your laptop and getting some work done or grabbing a pastry to catch up with friends. Now onto the food. I ordered the Jerusalem breakfast platter and a warm brown butter cookie. The breakfast platter came with a Jerusalem Bagel, and several dips/sides: - pickled onions - sun dried tomato spread - chopped mediterranean salad - hard boiled egg - tuna salad I opted for double pickled onions since I despise tuna. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. I really liked that the array of five spreads allowed me to experiment with all kinds of different flavor combinations--each of which was cohesive given the overarching mediterranean genre--atop the Jerusalem bagel, which boasted a crispy crunchy sesame seed galore outer crust and warm and soft inside. I particularly enjoyed the tart undertones of the labneh mixed with sun dried tomato spread. Now the brown butter cookie was also 10/10. Not overly sweet, perfectly soft and warm on the inside, and a kind of richness in flavor thanks to the browned butter.
