The most discouraging point about Harbor Lights is the lack of parking for friends and loved ones . It is near impossible to find extra parking this past year ! This is not fair to the residents to have their friends and family discouraged from visiting . We recently were told she had to have her paid reserved parking removed ! There is no where to park to bring up her groceries and help her to her room. BUYER BEWARE !

I suppose there are worse places; this is the only nursing home I've ever been in and I hope it's the last. On the positive side:It's clean and doesn't smell bad. The food is decent. The staff is a mixed bag. Some people are friendly, bright and competent. Others are going through the motions. One night I needed to be changed, and while an aide changed me, all she did was point and grunt whenever it was time for me to turn over. When I turned over at the wrong time. When I thanked her, she grunted something and left. Weird. I would not recommend this place for the easily cowed. Some people who handle us are gentle and respectful; some are not. I have yet to get the same meds every day in the same dosages. If I question this they say that they go by the computer(I guess some tech at Jersey Shore misread something on my meds list). Thankfully there are wonderful professionals here for whom the patients are not the lowest people on the totem pole. The psych ANP finally changed what was on the computer and tonight I hopefully will receive the right dosage without having to argue my case yet again to a new nurse. We'll see. I will update this if I don't get thrown out in the meantime. But seriously, they need more staffing and more development of the staff. Another thing: there is a complete lack of transparency in the organization. If you are trying to contact a person responsible for something or simply complain, good luck! All I can see are vents like these on Yelp and Caring.com. Later.

Involved in the school industry. We never thought of placing our Dad in a retirement facility due to all the negative connotations. It was a true blessing when needed to find a home, we came across The Willows. It is a small retirement home for adults which is what we were looking for so our dad can be given the much needed personal attention. My siblings and I graciously Thank Mrs. Pinto and Ms. Chin for their thoughtfulness, care and attention. This home is not the typical institution like facility. It is a beautiful B&B style home with a very caring staff and no foul odors. It is a private facility with exceptional amenities all inclusive in the monthly rate. I highly recommend anyone needing a home for their love ones to take a tour of The Willows. It is truly a rare gem of a retirement home that caters to your needs.

They got to know him: music he liked, stories he told, hobbies of his, and more. They took the time to know his family: our names, relations, where we were from, and so on. We would spend hours in his room and they would bring us trays of food directly to us- sandwiches, cookies, coffee/tea.. anything we needed! They took such great care of my grandfather and us, giving us one less thing to worry about in a tough time. When my grandfather passed, there was a sweet nurse next to him. He talked about how gentle and kind she was, and she was able to be right next to him as he passed away. It gives our family great comfort to know that he was in good hands before we could be there. Every single person we interacted with was so unbelievably kind. If you are nervous about leaving a family member here, I can tell you that, from my experience, they will be taken great care of.

Horrible and neglectful experience! One additional hour in their care my 93 year old mom would…read morehave died. My mom had COVID pneumonia and was on a ventilator. After a week, she recovered and went to NJ Shore Center. Unfortunately, they are understaffed and don't care when patients could potentially have life threatening issues. My mom was complaining for 21 days her red button help bell was not working. I also complained multiple times. The response we got, my mom is not pushing the button and maybe she needs a psych evaluation. During the 21 days my mom waited up to an hour to get assistance to move her bowels and was in severe pain. She was constantly in wet diapers. I was too trusting and after 21 days, I personally tested the red help bell. Low and behold to their surprise the signal was being routed into another room. They acknowledged, called maintenance and didn't even apologize, heartless. The damage was done and I noticed my mom confused with hands uncontrollably shaking on the 23rd day. I demanded she go to Monmouth medical. They called ambulance and we waited 6 hours. Never again, I should have called 911 myself. As soon as my mom got into the hospital she had a seizure. She had urinary tract infection and went into septic shock. Her blood pressure dangerously low and went into ICU. Once again, she survived and after 7 days went to an acute hospital / rehab - Encompass. My mom went there barely able to stand and within 14 days she was speed walking and healthy. She is now back home and doing well. Miraculous recovery! I can't say enough of the care and the staff at Encompass, they are the BEST. Unfortunately, NJ Shore center was the worst and almost cost my loving and spirited mom her life.
