Derek L. came out today to look at our AC Unit, which has been struggling when the temperatures gets over 95 degrees, but otherwise cools the house. We were looking for a diagnosis and an estimate for repair or replacement. Derek said we had an old unit and the compressor windings were broken. He agreed to send us an estimate. After Derek left, I noticed my thermostat was off, which meant the whole unit was off. My husband reached out to Derek and was told he had turned everything off before leaving. We weren't advised of this before Derek left, had not agreed to any work or set up a return date, and were left in the 100+ degree heat. The off/on switch is on the unit, which is on the roof. There was no offer to come turn the unit back on. Note the unit was working when temps are below 95 degrees. I would have liked to have had a choice in whether he was turning the entire unit off and leaving us with no AC. The estimate was $5000 to replace the compressor or $13,000 for a new unit. Needless to say I had to call someone else out to turn the unit back on. At that time, I was told the we ultimately needed a new unit, as we have an old unit and when the compressor gets too hot, it turns off. Makes sense. In looking at whole sale new units they run about $4000. read more

Dan from Yucaipa - I did use them again - to install an entire new system. Daniel and Ernesto - the installers - were extremely professional and pleasant. They completed the project on time. The unit works so much better that the unit it replaced. I chose to keep the old thermostat as it included a remote for upstairs. Did not automatically synch up. Derek came out after researching the Honeywell thermostat and it is now operational. I obtained three bids, and Derek was the most knowledgeable and least pushy of all the individuals. (Derek was upfront stating he could repair the system while the other two said the unit HAD to be replaced.) In addition, Derek's price was significantly less (for same or better unit) than what the other individuals offered. So went ahead and replaced the unit. So happy I found this business! Our experience with Ascent was great! From the start we were able to easily schedule an appt with Nikki who has been very helpful through this journey and sends an appt notice immediately through text. So basically, we had a very old unit that needed to be replaced and by far Derek the owner of ascent air conditioning and heating, not only won us over with the pricing, but with the knowledge that he brings. When I met Derek, I immediately felt at ease, as did my husband, that he would do a good job. He knows what he's talking about and he honors his word. He also always shows up on time which is rare in the service industry. They ended up installing a whole new HVAC unit and new ductwork for a lot less than we were quoted from other companies and they did really great work. The other employees Derek had at our house were respectful, polite, and very efficient in the work they did. The unit works great and cools and heats our house more efficiently and comfortably than before. Derek has come out to adjust it a couple of times, and made it very clear that he is always available to come out if we have an issue and again, he is just such a pleasant person to deal with. Ascent Plumbing came to my mother in laws house on Tuesday November 21 to check on her heating unit that had not been used for a year and would not turn on for mother in-law. I had an appointment from 2 to 4 pm. Derick from ascent plumbing arrive promptly at 2 pm and diagnosed the heating unit and got it to turn on without having to do any repairs and only charge me for showing up. Reading yelp reviews on local plumbing & heating repair can be pretty depressing. I tried one that seemed reliable and promised free estimates. They looked at my heater, said they didn't want to open it up because it was so old, and that it would be too hard to find parts, then gave me an estimate of $4,500 to replace a few things that I'd already told them I was pretty sure weren't the problem. They then charged me $99 after promising free estimates. Enter Ascent, who I called for a second opinion. It was the owner himself who came out the following day. He explained how heaters can get old but they all pretty much work the same way. He spent about an hour disassembling the heater and diagnosing precisely what was wrong, taking the time to explain to me in detail what he'd done and what he'd seen. Never once did he show any question or doubt about what he was looking for. That's what competence looks like. He then quoted me $645 for a complete repair, in 3 days after the part they needed to order would arrive. That's what fairness looks like. He called back in 2 days, the part was in, and he was back at our heater within the hour installing it, and within another half hour our heater was back on working perfectly. That's what a commitment to customer service looks like. He never tried to upsell me on things I didn't need or subscriptions to monthly services, like is so common with other Redlands firms. Derek just came out on a difficult heater repair that one well-known local firm had already failed at, and quickly fixed exactly what was wrong, then charged a very fair price for the parts and labor. I'm over the moon about not having to waste any more time calling in an incompetent repair firm, I can just call Ascent first and know it'll be handled no matter how old or complicated. read more

Called for a quote on a air conditioner replacement and Derek came out for the quote. He seems very knowledgeable and was not a pushy salesmen like i was getting with other HVAC contractors. I was able to call him with any questions we had during our decision making process. We got about 11 other quotes and the price we got from Ascent Mechanical was super competitive especially for the equipment they offer. We gave it the green light and they were at our house two days later and installed it in about 3.5 hrs. The crew was very nice and worked hard. That's a condenser outside, furnace and the coils in the Attic. We had cool air by 12pm on Friday. I did have to call them about the insulation that goes around the condenser copper thing outside after they were finished, but they came out early Monday morning and fixed it without a problem. Ascend Mechanical seems very eager to rectify any of their customers concerns. My wife and I are completely happy about new HVAC install and would highly recommend Ascent Mechanical. read more

We have tried several air conditioning companies to fix our second unit. One told us we needed a new unit for the upstairs because it would be more expensive to fix it- as naive and stupid, we went into the idiotically HERO swamp!! The new unit was always malfunctioning, everything was wrong when the company was to "tuneup " using their expensive membership. We tried another large company- wow, every time there was something wrong with the unit and more money out We had a summer which the new unit stopped working- we had to wait 2 weeks to be seen!! We promised we were to try someone new- and we are so happy that Derek was the one- his company quickly answered, made appointment the next possible working day. Even with all the ceiling fans in our house blasting. I got tons of recommendations for people, but Derek was the ONLY one that personally messaged me reaching out to offer his services. They called us first thing in the morning the next day, and we're there by that afternoon. He was super reliable. Was there when he said he was going to be. Was very honest and thorough. It's been almost a week since Derek came to my house for an estimate. He said he would send the quote to my email the next day but I've received nothing. I've checked my junk mail and even text the number used to confirm our appointment and still have not heard a peep. Cannot comment on the quality of work since no one has responded to my request for a quote. Apparently they did not want to take the job but it would have been a common courtesy to at least let me know that. Derek and Nickie were great! We had zone dampers installed in our 2-story home and they did a great job. There was a minor problem with the equipment a couple of weekends after it was installed, but Derek went out of his way to get it fixed.
