We've been coming here for six years and bring all three of our kids. Each doctor we've seen has been nothing short of great and always helpful and open to answering all of our questions. Anytime we've had a concern at home and have called, they've gotten back to us very quickly and provided excellent guidance. Highly recommend Aschinberg's practice. read more

I went to Dr. Aschinberg since the day I was born - literally! He was there the day I was born, and he was my doctor until I moved to San Diego when I was 15 years old. My family trusted him with all of our medical needs, and he was always very helpful to my mom. When I was a kid, there were always fish in his office in a big tank. Later in life, I learned that fish have a calming effect on people. I think that's true. He also had plenty of toys to keep the kids occupied (or pass germs - whatever. haha). His care to each and every patient and his knowledge was always appreciated. Even today, I remember him as my very favorite doctor, and wish I could go back. This doctors office administered more vaccinations then what was discussed with Dr Aschinberg Sr. They did not listen to what I wanted for my child. When I called to discuss with the nurse she apologized, and a week later I received a letter stating he would not attend to my child anymore which I've already found a different doctor. This office is all about the money and pushing meds into your child. I wouldn't recommend going here. read more

I second Erin on Dr. Ashinberg's care and generosity throughout my childhood. I also remember the aquarium and playing with the abundance of toys in the waiting room. He is a people-person. He understands families, issues, and he gets personal with you. He never let my family down. I'm sure when I have kids, I'll take them to Dr. Ashinberg. read more

Unfortunately their policies interfere with great care. We do evidence based medicine and it was simply asking questions not trying to be critical. I just wanted Answers not opinions but unfortunately I received the latter. I was disappointed in the bedside manner of most doctors and staff here. Great doctors and nurses. Their front desk staff could use a couple friendly smiles. Not as friendly as many many other Doctor clinics we've visited in Chicago where we used to live. Seems like they've been there a little too long, probably bored. Not a good look for the clinic. But once you're in the door the doctors are great. The nurses listen to you, very attentive. The decor is dated and the rooms are really small and kind of awkward to stand/sit in. Not very accommodating. Still, after having to make the choice of changing our insurance we did not choose one compatible with Aschinberg Pediatrics because we will not be returning. Having a child with a genetic disorder my husband and I are used to calling our clinic after hours when our son gets sick and getting same day appointments when needed. Unfortunately, we did not find that with this clinic, again because the front desk is in charge of appointments and such and well, they aren't the easiest to talk to. read more

We came to this office because of convenience. They are great about getting my children in for appointments quickly. It did take me switching between 3 doctors, though, before I found one I liked. They do practice a more traditional medicine when it comes to formula/breastfeeding and cereal/BLW. However, i never felt belittled or questioned for the choices I made with my baby. Overall, this office is reliable, clean, and understanding. read more

I have taken my son to Aschinberg for the past four years. At first, I thought that this place was good. They seemed knowledgeable and seemed to tend to my son's needs. As my son got older, I started noticing problems with the establishment. First, you are going to be there for a long time in the waiting room. I know this is standard for all pediatricians along with doctors but when you are waiting for an hour or so for your name to be called, it can be a little taxing with a squirmy small child. When you finally do get called, you will be waiting for another 15-30 minutes for the doctor. Which I don't understand considering when the doctor finally does arrive, it is an in and out kinda job. They may spend 5-10 minutes with your child looking them over and then prescribe whatever comes to their mind. Dr. Aschinberg (the senior) prescribed my son with Symbicort which has not be studied in children under the age of 6. My son was waking up with bad dreams and was completely unable to listen, sit still, was falling down and loosing motor skills, and he was super emotional. When I researched other parent's interaction with the drug, they said the same thing for their kids and some had worse side effects. I did not finish the whole prescription (I only gave my son 3 doses) and the half life of Symbicort stayed in his system for a couple days. I informed Aschinberg on my next visit about the terrible side effects of Symbicort and they put down in his chart that he was allergic to it. Then they reassured me that other mothers complain about the same effects but some kids don't have that adverse reaction to it. Wow, how comforting. On my last and final visit to Aschinberg, the nurse asked if my son was allergic to any other medications besides Symbicort. I told her that he was not allergic to the medication but he was a mad man and had nightmares. The nurse stated again that more often than not, parents complain about Sybmicort. I am not a medical professional but if you have an influx of people complaining about a certain medication, don't you think you would find something else to prescribe instead? Or actually read up about the side effects and what the correct age to prescribe the medication to the child? On my last visit, my son was breaking out into hives. He has never had an allergic reaction before. My husband noticed the hives and immediately I called the doctors. I did not give him any medication because I didn't want the rash to go down in case the doctors could see where the point of entry was and give me some sort of clue as to what caused the hives in the first place. The nurse practitioner was of no help and just said that he was having an allergic reaction. She prescribed steroids which my husband asked her a simple question about. He asked her if steroids was necessary considering how harsh they are on the body. She became very defensive, said she has been doing her job for 20+ years and that steroids are COMPLETELY safe to give to a 3, almost 4 year old. (Side effects are temper-tantrums, lack of sleep, irritability with a chance of violence, mood swings, high blood pressure, bone density loss, change in blood sugar levels,etc.) After she felt less threatened by a simple question, she said that we could try Children's Benadryl which is what I was going to give him in the first place but I wanted to have a doctor see my son to have a little bit of an ease of mind. Instead, I came out feeling verbally abused and completely dissatisfied with the care that my son was getting from them. I will never take my son back to Aschinberg and I will never recommend them to anyone. I will actually go out of my way to inform other Mom's about the poor quality of service that they give and how they are pharmaceutical pushers. read more

Front desk girls are very unfriendly and unprofessional to say the least. Male nurse is also anything other then a joy to deal with. Older "lady" that works in their insurance department is the most rude person I've ever delt with in my life! Mrs Aschinberg was SUPPOSED to call me to discuss an issue we were having with unpaid ins bill and how they wouldn't schedule my daughters shots. Instead someone from their insurance dept called and said they simply refuse to see my daughter that it's company policy. Long story short our medical group changed and there's an outstanding bill from the first medical group. Current medical group has paid every balance in full so far. After over ten years and all 5 of my kids going there and the thousands they've got from us already they treat us like this over an outstanding bill...which by the way is getting sorted out and Aschinbergs office was told they would get their money directly from the medical group and insurance company. Apparently they won't take their word they need check in hand. Doctors are great but their staff is running that place into the ground. So glad this last situation gave us the push to finally leave them! Couldn't be happier!!!! read more
