    Roasty beet salad (4.5/5)

After scouring online forums for a dinner spot in Peterborough, Ashburham ale house kept coming up as a spot locals recommended for quality food & Canadian beers. The forums were right....the food here was FANTASTIC & the service attentive for such a fast past restaurant! What we ordered: 1/2 CHICKEN 1/2 RIBS (5/5) - the waiter said anything that's smoked/BBQ on their menu was highly suggested. The dry rub marinade was smokey & had depth in flavour throughout the cuts of meat, which was also cooked great! The fries were crispy & I enjoyed the curried mayo for it. ROASTY BEET SALAD + added lemon chicken skewer AND shrimp ($6 extra for each protein, 4.5/5) - loved all the crunchy textures from the seeds, fried feta and maple beets (although a bit heavy with its quantity), & fresh veggies. The dressing is house-made & I surprisingly loved the lemon chicken flavour - tangy & complimented the dish so well. I concur with the locals on this one. Ashburnham Ale house is SUPERB.

Veggie black bean burger with home cut fries

Stopped by here on a quick weekday afternoon trip to Peterborough. The restaurant was buzzing with people during the lunch rush and there was a wait for tables for two so we decided to sit at the bar. The decor is very rustic and designed to give the feel of an old backcountry hunting lodge. There are framed local highlights scattered around the space that adds to the nostalgia for its regulars. I ended up ordering the Black Bean Vegetarian Burger with aged gouda, blue cheese and house cut fries. I have to admit, it was one of the best veggies burgers I've ever had. The bean patty was perfectly cooked and held its shape for the entire duration of t he meal. Normally, veggie patties fall apart the more you bite into it. The real hero of the meal was the house hot sauce. The in-house "habanero curry" hot sauce was so flavourful that you can quickly forget how spicy the sauce is and soak it all up your fries. Something spice lovers MUST try when they visit. Highly recommend this pub and even though I didn't drink this time, they have an excellent selection of local and imported craft beers and spirits to choose from.

They have quite bit beer selection (but not too many on tap), the service was good 5/5, but the food was just a bit above average overall. We ordered margy pizza, 4/5, good crust, my daughter like it. The southern pride brisket sammiches was too salty, 2/5. The spicy black bean veggie burger has pretty good patty but the bun was so so, 3.5/5.

Went here for lunch today. On the weekend they have a brunch menu and the regular menu. Great homemade food with excellent choices on both menus plus reasonable prices!! They have a large beer menu as well. The restaurant has a patio and bar area along with a dining room. All tastefully decorated and spacious. Lots of places to talk and not be crowded. My husband had the brisket which was delicious and I had the schnitzel. Large portions and very yummy. I would recommend this place and will come back if we are in the area.

Another great favourite: I love the fish taco (it has another name but that it what it is), and all the breakfasts are awesome.

I went for a pint and a burger after work, they only had two kinds of burgers and all craft beer. It was very expensive.

The best service anywhere. Creative and tasty items on menu, good beer selection. Red wine was a bit on the warm side. Will come back again.

Anyways, I digress - as I usually do, you will pass through Peterborough (yes named after me...hehehe) and then you will magically here the song... Bobcaygeon by the Tragically Hip. Bobcaygeon is a bit north of Peterborough but the Brewery is right in town! And though the Song has a few interpretations, the word BREW does not! I'm thirsty for the Amber Nectars of the Gods... let me at'em! LOL! This is the second craft/microbrew in the same number of days for the me on my small town getaway. When you enter this place, you're going to be basically dropped into a warehouse brewing operations. No cool sitting area but the murals are nice. The place is industrial but hey... we came for the BREWS not the artsy decor. Let's leave that for the fancy smancy wine peeps! Ha! Simple bench seatings to the left. A cash area to the front of you where taps line the wall under a blackboard. Menu is simple... here are the brews ORDER UP and DRINK! I did a flight of 4 to try their crafts. Overall the brews were... O...K..., I wouldn't jump up and down and cry that I found my one and only Brew Luv! See what I did there!?! :D The place was pretty empty except for some industry peeps at another table. The one guy in the shop was pretty low key and really didn't get into conversation about their brew - would have loved more info and history of the place. Everyone is different and each of us have different prefs. I know one thing, I did not like the Heavy Lies the Crown ... OMG ... reminds me of the Up'yer'Kilt brew I had decades ago. Must be bad for me to still remember it! Think that through. Anyway, in true Canadian sense where we leave no beer behind, I did drink it! Thank the lord it was a flight and not a pint!!! As I left, the brewery... the theme song of The Littlest Hobo hums through my mind as I hit the road ... HOME. Cheers.

I got the Smoll which is a newer brew, the Petit Duchesse, Roller Beast and Kraken. My favs were the Kraken and Smoll. They were all great but I would definitely get those again! Service was quick and friendly. In the back they have Pattersons Pizza making Neapolitan style pizza. I was surprised they were there!
