We were a couple (30 y.o.) who stayed in March over spring break from graduate school in Virginia. We stayed for 3 or 4 nights and cooked often. This stay was an "exceeds expectations" experience from the moment we opened the door only to see a spotless and well furnished cottage, complete with a very generous welcome bowl filled with candies, snacks, and bottled water! We looked into the bathroom and bedroom and back deck to "omggg" reactions, literally. Floors, baseboards, counters, sinks, bathtub, toilet, and all surfaces were dust-free and spotless. The unit is so just so attractive. What matters most, the space. This is no small place. The living room is at least 1.5x size of the bedroom with lots of walking space and room for our bags. I imagine a mom, dad, and up to 2 kids could stay here comfortably. Even a third child if they were going to be in a pack & play or stay on the floor. All the kitchen pots, dishes, pans, silverware, and appliances felt brand new and in-style. The owners are so thoughtful, there was even a sponge and cleaning stuff under the kitchen sink (we re-used a skillet in cooking dinner). There was a small selection of spices too! Cooking was so easy. The added extras on a chilly night were very nice and we enjoyed them: the gas fireplace (controlled by a wall switch) and the hot tub on the back deck (it snowed on us while we were in it! So cool!) It took less than 5minutes to drive into downtown Asheville. There is a grocery store just down the street that had everything we needed. I would highly highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay at a very nice cottage - It is impossible for you to stay here and be disappointed!

Absolutely wonderful place to stay. It's so quiet and tucked away that's it hard to believe your only minutes from downtown Asheville and about a 20 minute drive to Brevard (pisgah natl forest). We stayed in the Willow cottage for our anniversary weekend with our 1 year old. The place was beautiful and we were provided with everything we needed for our stay- linens, dishes, cooking utensils, washer dryer, soap, dishwasher, snacks, drinks, games, books, pack and play, lounge robes, etc.. THE cottage included a hot tub, gas grill, and patio seating on the secluded deck. The hot tub was great- we just took the cover off and hopped in. I can't say enough about this place and how amazing it was. Don't stay anywhere else in asheville. This is the place to be.

Here are a few of my chief complaints: 1) There was no one to check me in when I arrived late after a long flight from California. After standing in the empty front room for a while, I saw a small sign saying to call a number to check in. I called twice before an insolent teen in sweatpants finally showed up to give me my key. 2) The inn adds a daily "tip" for room cleaning on top of an already high bill. (This is one of the more splurgey places to stay in the Black Mountain area.) If that wasn't rude enough, no one ever came by during my three-night stay to clean/tidy the room. The toilet bowl had dirt marks all over it when I showed up and there they stayed for the duration of my visit. No one made the bed. 3) Internet did not work. 4) Breakfast begins late -- at 8.30am -- because the chef has to take his five children to school. Seriously. So if you're staying there for work, as I was, you have to get breakfast elsewhere. That being said, after a lengthy argument with aforementioned insolent teen, the chef prepped me some breakfast items before he left for the night and left them in the fridge. That was very sweet of him.

We were a party of 6 for the Thanksgiving dinner 2025. With new owners as of three or so months…read morepreviously, this was my LAST dining experience here. It was a buffet style meal. I expected turkey but they only served small thin slices of turkey breast (with giblet gravy - no traditional gravy available) and some kind of baked ham (mostly in chunky pieces) in a cabbage broth (a dish of sweet dark looking sauce available). The appetizer/salad/soup options: big bowl of mostly frissee lettuce w/ grape tomatoes, shaved carrots with a gross thick sauce of balsamic vinaigrette. There were trays of: baked root veggies, sweet potato pone, mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. The rolls were industrial like (white rolls out of a bag) not the homemade fresh baked breads I've had here before. There were bowls of Smoked CHOPPED salmon (why would anyone chop up smoked salmon?) and trout with a tzatziki sauce (not a dip) was not what one would expect. The best part of the whole meal was the butternut squash bisque. The dessert option that I chose was a small wedge of flour chocolate ganache torte. It was dry and the topping was very thin. There was fresh made whipped cream but the buffet table (overall) was not well maintained. The table service was subpar. We had plates sitting on our table for long periods of time and would have liked to have more visits by the waitress for more pours of coffee. The wine selection is not what it used to be. My Oregon Pinot Gris was served in a stumpy Chardonnay glass (ugh). For the price of this meal....we should have been treated right and fed a phenomenal holiday meal. My father and mother had experienced at least two Thanksgiving meals at Glen-Ella in recent years and raved about how good it was, which was why he shelled out the money to take me and invite friends to eat there this past Thanksgiving. The worst part was the response of the wife (Michelle) of the husband/wife owners who replied to my email whereby I described the above meal/service and the excuses I got, contradicting statements I made as if she was there and witnessed what me, my dad and our fellow diners experienced, giving excuses for such poor service and food selections. She did say the next time we return to let her know. We're not going to risk another poor and expensive experience. WE WILL NEVER RETURN. Update.....it doesn't surprise me that Michelle replied the way she did to my review. I can tell you that most people who are disappointed with food/service do NOT write reviews either on Yelp! or other review sites. But you, as a discerning buyer, can look at other reviews and see when things change for the better or worse. Buyer beware.

Traveling solo, I sat at the bar and found the service friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout my visit. My drink stayed filled, and the staff did a great job making a solo diner feel comfortable. I started with the soup, which was excellent and a great way to begin the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the large mac and cheese. The portion was generous, rich, and very satisfying after a long day of riding in the mountains. Everything was served hot and prepared with care. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, making it a great place to unwind after spending the day exploring the area. The restaurant felt welcoming without being overly formal, and I never felt rushed during my meal. Overall, I had a very good experience. Good food, attentive service, and a comfortable atmosphere. I would gladly return the next time I'm in Blowing Rock.

Hidden Gem in Blowing Rock…read more After spending the morning at Grandfather Mountain, I took the scenic route into Blowing Rock and stumbled onto an absolute gem. Hellbender Bed & Beverage and Bistro Roca share the same space now, and the result is one of the most charming spots I've found in the High Country. The outdoor patio was beautiful, with flowers everywhere, cozy seating areas, fire pits, and plenty of dogs lounging alongside their owners. The gravel patio was a little uneven, so my table had a slight tilt, but honestly, the atmosphere more than made up for it. I started with a glass of Crémant de Loire. Crisp, cold, refreshing, and exactly what I wanted after a morning of mountain exploring. For lunch, I ordered the Moules Frites. The mussels arrived swimming in a rich, flavorful broth with basil and sun-dried tomatoes, alongside a generous pile of perfectly cooked fries. The combination with the sparkling wine was fantastic. I cleaned the plate. The service was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant. My only suggestion is a little more attention to the details. If you're serving mussels, a spoon is almost essential for enjoying that incredible broth. A smaller seafood fork would also make fishing out the mussels easier. Minor things, but details that can elevate a great meal into an exceptional one. The prices were surprisingly reasonable. My entrée and glass of bubbles came in around $23, which felt like a great value considering the quality, portion size, and setting. I skipped dessert only because I was determined to finish every last fry, then headed into town to walk off lunch and hunt for something sweet. If I return--and I absolutely would--I might even stay at the inn. The cottages looked adorable, and the whole property felt warm and inviting. Just a short walk from downtown Blowing Rock, this place delivers on atmosphere, food, and mountain-town charm. Five stars for the food. Four stars for service. Five stars overall because I'd happily come back tomorrow. Life is too short to eat mediocre food. Get out there and stuff your face.

Our only complaint was the room which was "The Colleen". Dan did not try and sugar coat it and told us that it was the smallest room at the B&B and he was spot on. While my wife and I are both small and petite there was still just enough room for the both of us but barely. The bathroom is hidden behind a secret bookshelf which was cool and unique but very tiny and cramped. Just something to keep in mind if you end up staying in that room. Other than that the place exceeded our expectations and we would definitely stay here again just hopefully in one of the other rooms if available.
