    Peach tiramisu
    Lisa F.

My experience was excellent. It was amazing food. Our server was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the food. And the food again was amazing. How do you make artichokes taste so good? I had vegan steak - looked like the real thing and tasteed great. The peach tiramisu was devine. We sat outside and they had umbrellas up and no weather issues. Definitely work visiting.

Group of 4 on a busy Friday night. We were seated early without reservations. The host was great. We ordered all the "sides" and then each chose a protein, I chose the 6 ounce filet with the lump crab topping and bernaise sauce. My filet was honestly a little small and not the best. The crab topping was not lump - I'm a Virginia/Maryland gal- I know my crab and I know lump. It was a $19 add on, and it was ice cold...like very chilled. I said something, and was told that's normal. It chilled my filet. There was supposed to be a lovely bernaise sauce...there was not. It was dry, I pushed that crab off my now cold beef, ate what I had. It was later removed from the bill. The server did offer to correct the issue. Nevertheless, skip the crab. And I would not order the $59 tiny filet again either. Most of the sides were pretty good...I liked the green veggies. Potatoes were quite good too. Get the rolls, well worth it, Ambiance and service were fine. I'm not sure I'd return here for the price point. I would suggest looking further.

Smaller intimate restaurant. Service and food are excellent. The Wagyu filtered and soaked bourbon is an experience that is good even at $30. 2nd time here. Will be back

First time , 100% will be back. One of the best steaks I've had and some very unique and delicious sides to choose from plus sauces that are very good but the steak needs no sauce. I had the Wagyu flat iron steak with a perfect crust and still med rare of the wood fire grill. Crispy confit potatoes perfect side complement along with the zucchini roll. Make sure to get the S'mores dessert! Excellent service and great location. Ambiance low soft lit, smell of wood fire grill, comfortable seating inside or out, small enough to feel quaint and warm, nice spot for special occasion or date night. Definitely would not take kids here.

    Mushroom dish

The whole restaurant smells of the smoke from the wood fire. To me it was overpowering and we asked to sit outside. I ordered LOCAL MUSHROOM "BOLOGNESE" which was just okay. Then I ordered a shrimp dish with feta and pine nuts among other things, which was prepared beautifully, wrapped in Philo and tied with a chive stem. Unfortunately it was so salty that I could hardly eat it. I would not recommend Proper, especially for those prices.

The restaurant needs reservations. The inside is on the smaller side. The food was good but a little pricy. The service was on the slower side but the waitress was really nice. The drinks were on the pricy side.

A Proper Experience at Asheville Proper! From the moment we sat down, the experience was nothing short of phenomenal. The menu at Asheville Proper is bold, creative, and full of energy -- and it absolutely delivers. Let's start with the steak tartare -- easily one of the best I've ever had. Perfect texture, beautifully seasoned, and bursting with vibrant, balanced flavors. It's fresh, refined, and shows the kitchen's attention to every detail. Then came the bone marrow, which was an absolute show-stopper. Rich, buttery, and perfectly roasted -- it paired so well with the accompaniments that it felt like a dish straight out of a fine-dining magazine. Every bite was indulgent and perfectly executed. The portions were well-balanced, the plating stunning, and the service warm and attentive. You can feel the pride in every plate and the passion behind every pairing. If you're looking for an upscale yet comfortable spot with creative flair and unforgettable flavor, Asheville Proper is a must-try. It's the kind of place that reminds you why you love food in the first place. ashevilleproper.com

    Atmosphere

The atmosphere was cozy and what we were looking for in a mountain steakhouse restaurant. They specialize in meat and we could tell. We got a NY strip and it was delicious. On the other hand, the beefy mashed potatoes were very salty and we didn't end up eating very much of them. Our server, Steve, seemed irritated with us and did not provide service that matched with the price tags and "fine dining" label. Would also like to add the bathroom was dirty and not up to the standard of a fine dining atmosphere. Happy for the experience but would not return.

I took my guy to Asheville Proper for his Birthday and we actually enjoyed this place. My guy loved his steak and potatoes he gave it : For my Vegetarians out there : I had the Marbled & Smoked Gnocchi - it was good, But I felt like it was missing something like another type of fruit, idk I didn't like the grapefruit...idk it just didn't give me that WOW tasting factor. Did I eat it ? Hell yeah !! ( I didn't eat it all ) Will I eat it again? No Rating that at : I also had the Mixed Green Salad : I'm not sure if I was starving or that salad was just fire because dang it was gone in seconds. Loved it ! Rating the salad at : I can't remember the dessert name but nothing was left and that's all that matters Rating: I do want to go back and try the " Juicy Marbles Vegan Filet " - I almost got this but I was overthinking it

    Wagyu Coulotte with Chimichurri
    Corey N.

We sat at the bar, drinks and service were top notch! I normally don't order espresso martinis, but it was a great after dinner drink. My wife ordered the Wagyu Coulotte (MR) with Chimichurri and loved it. I had the Hickory Nut Gap sourced Ribeye (MR) and it was amazing, perfectly cooked. We shared the Tallow Confit Potato Medley, Skillet Corn Broulee and Sauteed Mushrooms. I recommend choosing only two sides as our eyes were bigger than our stomach, but everything was delicious and perfectly prepared - highly recommended! Great ambiance and music too.

My bf and I had reservations at 545pm and we arrived early, a little after 5pm. The host accommodated our new time and sat us right away. The food was exceptional. We ordered the waiter's recommendations and wow, we were blown away. Highly recommend the beef tartar, charred bone marrow, and s'mores cookie for dessert.

We had lunch here on the 4th of July while wandering around in downtown Asheville. The inside is very posh & polished. The staff is professional and very attentive. The kitchen is open air style, so you can watch the chefs grill your food, but that also means the restaurant is a little warm during summer months. My duck tartine would probably have been better served as a sandwich; the toppings kept falling off the bread, the blackberries didn't add much to the flavor profile, neither did the arugula & pickled zucchini topping, although the duck did have notes of a legitimate NY style pastrami, even if the breast meat was overcooked. My wife had the eggplant parmaggiano sandwich, and to be perfectly honest it was the better option, considering price/value ratio. The house made potato chips have a depth of flavor with citrus/acidic touches, blended with black pepper & saltiness. Perplexing that the side of chips beat the main dish in terms of overall balance. My advice to the chef, puree the blackberries instead of serving them whole, and rethink why you added pesto to the base instead of a creamy aioli. Presentation wise, it's pretty, but functionally the combinations don't work.

After having visited Spain and experiencing tapas, our expectations were set high and Cúrate delivered on all levels. We ordered several plates to share, ordered a bubbly white wine and later a pitcher of Sangria and enjoyed the thoughtfulness of their progression of our meal. Every dish was thoughtful and tasty. The patatas bravas were better than some we had in Spain. The lamb skewers were the least favorite as they were slightly overcooked. I missed taking a picture of the mussels because we slopped that up so fast! Overall, I cannot wait to visit again, especially as they change their menu seasonally so new surprises would be amazing. I booked it about a month ahead and had no trouble getting a reservation although it was quite busy for a Wednesday evening. And the restaurant itself is quite large! We started with sangria. It had been awhile since I had sangria and this reminded me i need to drink it more often- especially in the summer! Our waitress was Zoe who informed us she'll be moving near us in Chicago soon. She was great so happy to welcome her to our city! With Zoe and Yelp's help we decided on the following food: - Pan Con Tomate: didn't sound like anything special, but really good especially when topped with anchovy (as Zoe recommended) - Gilda: the anchovies we topped our pan con tamate - Pimientos De Piquillo Rellenos: fine, but probably my least favorite thing we ordered - Pulpo a La Gallega: loved, but i usually do when octopus is involved - lamb skewers: I was full by the time these came out, but too good not to eat And for dessert we went with the cheesecake which was so good! Overall, a great meal and I can see why so many people/yelpers recommended it!
