I love the local vibe but am a bit hesitant about posting this glowing review as we really appreciate the ability to get a seat most times we visit. Boom. Bam. Ahhh. This is flat iron steak, Brussels and frites at Post 70 near the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance of east Asheville. I used to come here when it was only Filo Bakery. I guess the last time I was here over seven years ago. The bakery was superb. The additions to a full service restaurant is beyond perfect. Now for taste. The steak was really smooth with a nice crust with Coarse salt and a dollop of tomato jam. The Brussels are possibly baked as they have the burnt exterior. But then they are tossed in tomato jam. The frites/fries are thin perfectly cooked. The tomato jam is nice and different. I learned, from the more than gracious bartender/waitress, that the ingredients include allspice, garlic, clove and of course tomato. It is light, fresh and not overly sweet. But I want to be clear that this is an elevated and sophisticated condiment. It is Not ketchup. This is a wonderful spot. I highly recommend. Drinks. Dinner. Dessert. All homemade. I can not adequately describe the perfection of the preparation. Moist and as tender a baby's ear lobe. It has a firm bark that cut easily and held the balance sauce. A tour guide recommended this bar/cafe and it was the best experience! Josh, our bartender and host, was amazing to us and made the entire experience at Post 70 extremely enjoyable. He curates new cocktails every 6-8 weeks, so if you enjoy tasting new drinks and want something you have probably never had before, this is the place to go! We decided to stay for dinner and had the best meal. We ordered hummus and baba ganoush plate, and the lamb chop. Everything melted in our mouth including the sides that came with the dishes! Traveling and trying to find a good dinner. This wasn't it. It is a coffee bar with a bar, that wants to be a restaurant at night. Maybe if you are a local you can figure it out. No dress code, anything goes. We had reservations for 7:30 on a Wednesday. They were sold out of half of the menu, even the salad; but there was only one other table there while we were there? The food is considered tapas style even when it isn't, so your meals will not come out at the same time. The flatbread was very good. My medium rare filet was med well, with a delicious sauce of some kind; BUT it was laying in a heavily sauced mustard based (think SC bbq) potato salad which did not compliment the sauce at all. I ate NONE of it! My husband who will eat anything didn't like the potato salad. Oh well, we didn't have dessert, it did look good. We were two people having dinner together. One ordered braised short ribs and the other lobster risotto. The short ribs were done in a timely fashion and 15 minutes later came the risotto. I was completely finished when my friend just started her dinner. The statement was made that the short ribs cook faster. It would have been very easy to start the ribs later to have them come out at the same time as the risotto. Poor planning for sure. read more

My only complaint with Post 70 is that I didn't get to return during my visit to Asheville..... My girlfriend and I stopped in to watch the Kentucky Derby, which Post 70 was celebrating with a party. Folks were done up in their finest Derby attire and the atmosphere was just great. The mint juleps and later, the Louisville Lemonades were really tasty and refreshing. Unfortunately we didn't partake in any of the menu items but everything looked to be very promising. The space is at once classy and comfortable: the kind of place you'd pick as your regular neighborhood spot if you lived in the area. The staff is cheerful, friendly and energetic. The seem happy that you stopped in and you're made to feel at home immediately. So while I'm not sure how truly helpful this "review" is, for what it's worth I'd highly recommend checking out Post 70. I know I will, if I am ever lucky to travel back this way. read more

Very disappointed in our trip here. Based on the all 5* reviews we thought we were finding a diamond but ended up with a dud. On the positive side the restaurant had good ambiance and seemed like it would be a cool place to hang out. We did have one of their craft cocktails and it was excellent and if the service would have been better by our waitress we had intended to try most of their original cocktails. The food was also good although portion sizes were very small for the cost. Where the restaurant really suffered, at least for us on that night, was with the service. When we arrived we were told we could sit anywhere but the only available table (aside from the tables that remained unbussed for the duration of our stay) was outside in an area where the light was out. We waited for a good 15 minutes before our waitress came to take our drink order. About 10 of the 15 minutes we waited was due to the waitress joking around and talking with what I assume were employees or at least regular customers (I assumed they were off the clock employees because they were drinking, hanging out behind the bar and in the area where food was prepared). at a table next to ours outside. When she finally came over to us she commented how it was weird that we were sitting in the dark. Maybe if the tables were ever bussed we would have an available place to sit. After another 5 minutes of waiting without our drinks we went to leave but when a spot opened up inside (because it was so late at that point with minimal other available restaurant options) we decided to stay. When we finally did order we stated how we were going to get 2 apps and 2 entrees. We ended up receiving one app, my girlfriends entree, the other app, and finally my entree. The table we were sitting at was small and the food was rushed out shoved on to the table without any consideration for the fact that we were still working on an earlier course. A comment was even made by our waitress how there was no room for anything even though she didn't remove the plates we were finished with. We had to ask to have our drinks refilled and then remind her after she got distracted dancing with the other employees/regulars. After it was all said and done the bill was also incorrect. We thought it might have just been us receiving the poor service but another couple who left around the same time said they had a similar experience. We visit Asheville every year and often try the local restaurants to recommend to our friends. Needless to stay Post 70 won't be receiving any recommendations. This might have just been an off night but it seemed more like a restaurant that is content to rest on its good reviews and regulars and doesn't care about new customers. This is the only disappointing meal I've ever had in Asheville and it really put a damper on what otherwise a great day. read more

This is one of the best places I have been to. Period. I'd put their chef, bartender and staff up against any team In Wynwood, Brickell or any other stop in Miami. The drinks were made with great care and thoughtful use of ingredients. Floral notes and burnt orange made The Beauregard my libation for the evening. The short rib was perfectly cooked and the seasoning didn't overpower the taste of meat. Service was timely but not rushed. Went one evening for a date night as one of our first nights out alone without our new baby were excited to try this place. At first walk in we were a little confused since there was no host and no sign that said please see yourself. We decide to grab a table and about 5 minutes later a server came over to great us. After she came over she was super nice, very friendly and attentive. This place appears to have an ever rotating menu which is nice but it changes every evening and there's no place to find the current menu for that night online at least not that I can find. We started off with fried green tomatoes with some trout dip which is very delicious. It came with three fried green tomatoes cut in halves.We shared a salad with goat cheese and Mandarin oranges and bib lettuce and my wife said it was one of the best salad should have ever had and I must agree with this. Being that it was apparently southern night at post 70 I saw someone with some chicken wings and they looked pretty good. However after ordering them I realized they were actually fried like fried chicken instead of chicken wings which was not what I was expecting but they were pretty good. We also shared a large bowl of macaroni and cheese with some ham in it which was very delicious and creamy, my wife did say that the cheese resembled Velveeta which I don't think it was but it was that creamy texture. All the food came out super fast and the drinks came out shortly after we ordered them. The staff was very knowledgeable and the place has a small local feel. What an amazing meal. The bartender,oh my word, he should be in the bartender hall of fame. He read my mind when I said I wanted the graveyard drink...Corpse Reviver. My husband asked for a spicy Margarita...BOOM...he made it happen. We started our meal with Labneh, Baba Ghanoush, and Hummus plate. For our second cocktail we let the bartender create.... my husband received another margarita with just a bit of a different profile and I got Graveyard Flowers... a corpse Reviver with Lavender syrup, very yummy. Second course was Short Ribs and Pan Seared Lamb rack. Words cannot adequately describe how succulent and deLicious. We ended the night with Irish coffee and dessert. What an indulgent selection. This is my favorite place in town! I'm not keeping it a secret anymore. This hidden gem in East Asheville is the best of both worlds! In the earlier hours of the day focusing on their wonderful baked goods and coffee/espresso drinks more cafe style. Taking a shift in menu from 5pm-midnight with amazing small plates-share plates from Greek wings to low country boil to exquisite lamb lollipops. All very impressively prepared by a very talented chef but also top quality ingredients, (trust me I asked, in detail) ;) This place was a dream come true for me to find. Serving top quality food late night, with a home type of comfort to the place, and a team running it that just adds to that quality even more. I've told all my friends, now I'm telling you. The owners of Filo decided to add a little something to their existing coffee/pastry business and add something to the fairly non-existent East Asheville bar scene. They built a nice sized horseshoe bar, secured a liquor license, and came up with pretty creative mixed drink and small plate menus to create Post 70 Indulgence Bar. If you've been to the space when it was just Filo, the new layout will seem a little odd at first. However, once you have one of their cocktails and a small plate or two, you'll easily move past the coffee shop ambiance of old. The East Asheville resident in me wants to review this place as awful. Stay away. It's terrible and the drinks are overpriced and the bartender, Emilios, isn't friendly at all. Stay downtown or on the West Side, you don't want to make the trip to this side of town for this place. Basically, I just want it to remain a local secret. So why write a review on Yelp, you ask? Well, I'm not that selfish and Post 70 isn't awful. It's great. The drinks are delicious. Emilios is quite friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The food is fantastic. You do want to make the trip to check it out. They are doing very good things, I would like to see this endeavor succeed. I don't generally do mixed drinks, I'm a beer nerd and wannabe whiskey connoisseur. But, I appreciate a place called an "Indulgence Bar" that features interesting concoctions, so I went with the Apollo's Chariot. It had Metaxa Brandy, lemon, orange, curacao, sugar, and bitters, and it was incredible. Dangerously delicious. I forced myself to sip it, it tasted like juice and happiness and without the restraint I probably could have downed enough to turn happiness into a headache and regret. My wife went with the Old Pal, which was Old Overholt Rye, Dolin Dry, and Campari served in a martini glass. It was also delicious, and it packed a noticeable punch. She followed that up with the Adult Latte, which was a latte with vodka, Kahlua, and Bailey's. She loved it. The mixed drinks aren't cheap, but it's an indulgence bar. Don't walk in expecting any crappy $3 well rum and Cokes. The small plates we tried were delicious. The Beef "Sashimi" was tender and tasty, seared just right. The Tasting Trio was excellent. Hummus, tarama, and a spicy feta cheese spread served with veggies and bread. I had never had tarama before, I enjoyed it. The hummus was solid, but the highlight was the spicy feta spread. It was nice and creamy, except for the chunks of feta, and it had a spice that lovingly kicked the taste buds. Like that playful older brother type of violence that stings a little but builds character. The only complaint I'd pretend to have about this dish was there weren't enough veggies to match the amount of dips/spreads on the plate. The crab cakes were absolutely stellar. My wife lived in Baltimore for a lot of years and spent a lot of time becoming a self-proclaimed crab cake snob. She's usually a pretty harsh critic of crab cakes. Tough but fair. She raved about these crab cakes. She's not as verbose as I am and doesn't like to use adjectives and adverbs as much as I do, but she definitely got the point across that she loved the crab cakes. Overall, our first experience at Post 70 was very enjoyable. Great drinks, delicious food, great service. I will say that the coffee shop vibe that still exists is a little odd, but it's just kinda quirky, not off-putting. Like that one weird friend everyone has. There was a pretty decent crowd and at times it seemed as though they could have used another bartender or a floor server, but I didn't get the impression that anyone was displeased by a little bit of a wait. They have some kinks to work out as far as the flow of service goes, but every new place does. It's worth giving them the chance. Even if you have to invade our peaceful side of town to do so. read more

What a gem! Last night we had the best experience. It was our first night and we had heard about the awesome food and cocktails coming out of this historic renovated prison/ veteran post/ Bakery. Chef Kit masterfully our together some great menu items. We tried 3 of the Tapas Items. We started with a grilled Romain lettuce topped with a chick pea tahini vinaigrette light and delicious plus it's a nice vegan option. We also had a French bread topped 12 hr marinated skirt steak cooked to perfection topped with aioli and a beautifully done chimichurri. Thud was so tasty and cooked to perfection. What a beautiful bite of perfection. After that it was on to the scallop mushroom risotto. Perfectly cooked scallops on a saffron rice risotto with chopped up mushrooms. Delicious! We also got the lobster Mac and cheese. This dish comes with a whole lobster tail, macaroni surrounded by 4 cheeses and topped with bread crumbs. We couldn't stop eating it. Each bite was magical. Probably the best Mac and cheese I've ever ate. They have an amazing bar and bartender to compliment all of this we had a couple cocktails. I high recommend the old fashioned. I've been looking for a Neapolitan pizza for a very long time. They call it "flatbread" here. It is very thin, crispy with a ciabata like crust. The wild mushrooms with Gorgonzola is to die for. The other two bartenders never made eye contact and seemed put off when we wanted to check out. One ignored me while she stood staring into space looking out the door while I waved after waiting for a long time. . Luckily, I had a hankering for a good dessert and the place we were at for dinner had nothing appetizing. We came in with low expectations as I had some Klondike bars in my freezer, but we were totally blown away. I had the cannoli cheesecake, which was deeeeee-licious. My girlfriends and I had a girls night at Post 70 last night (Party of 6) and it was not what we expected. The service was ridiculously slow- we were there for over 2.5 hours and not because we wanted to be. We ordered the Brie as an appetizer which took at least 45 minutes to come out. When it finally was delivered to our table, our dinner started to be delivered 5 minutes later. This is a tapas restaurant, we understood that, and we all ordered our own meals but all of the food was brought to our table in about a 35 - 40-minute span. I was completely done with my meal before 2 of the girls even received their crab flatbreads (I ordered the crab cakes and a salad). As the meals were slowly coming out the server did come out to let us know that their oven was small and they would be making the 2 crab flatbreads that we ordered separate. She said they would bring 1 out for the 2 to share and then bring the other out 2nd to save time. Well, both crab flatbreads came out together, the last items to be delivered and they were a little overcooked. After our meals we asked to see a dessert menu, the server did not come over to even take the dessert order for at least 10- 15 minutes. When we finally placed the order for dessert we asked for checks to try and speed things up a little but that didn't really help. We also requested items throughout the meal that we would have to remind the server about again (Extra water glasses, refill the water jugs, etc). At the end of the meal, we asked to speak with a manager-- she came to our table and I felt like right when she walked up she already had an attitude. We told her that we waited almost an hour for the Brie and she responded with "um, no, I know when the order was placed and it did not take an hour." I have worked in many restaurants and if I learned anything it's you do not tell a guest "No". I don't think she realized that the server forgot to put the order in. The manager did comp the brie which is what should have been done but there was so much more wrong with our experience that we didn't even share. I'm not sure if a party of 6 is too much for this restaurant or if it was because we were outside and we were forgotten about but either way, the service was pretty terrible but the food is pretty good. read more

Came here with my fiancé on a Friday while we were in town for a wedding. We had a small plate of tenderloin with onion straws that was delicious and a perfect size to share. What a great surprise to find this lounge that shares the space the Filo. It is very comfortable inside with a nice old ambiance. We planned to stop for a drink and an appetizer but the small bites were so good, we order more and made a dinner of it. The Manhattan was about the best we have had, certainly upscale ingredients and mixed just right. We ordered the crab soup, lamb chops, cheese plate and warm olives/almond plates. The crab soup was more like crab dip with lots of large pieces if bread on top to soak up the deliciousness - full of crab and finished with a very good sherry. The cheese plate was wonderful, and had a yummy blue cheese, feta, and a couple of other good cheeses, at least one was a goat cheese. The warm olives and almonds came on a tray with three small bowls, the other two filled with a good olive oil and feta. I haven't had just olives warmed by themselves (I think they were Kalamata) and they just filled my senses with q feeling like I was being transported to the Mediterranean. The two lamb chops could not have been grilled better, a nice seasoned crust with juicy, perfectly cooked lamb, surrounded with a subtly spiced sauce with raisins, cinnamon, etc. I can't say enough about those chops! We sat at a table that was an antique game table, worn with use, that fit perfectly with the rest of the decor, but the sofa looked very comfortable if you only wanted drinks. I was impressed with the line-up bitters on the bar, including black walnut, Aztec chocolate, cardamon, etc. and I wish I knew what cocktails they are meant to enhance. The service was excellent. We got there about 6:30, and not too many patrons were there yet (probably saving up for the next night that was New Years Eve). The bartender was also the waiter, and did both jobs perfectly. It was my birthday dinner and I was so happy to spend it at Post 70. The bill can add up, as we had 4 cocktails and the 4 small plates for about $100, but the quality of everything was perfect, and we really had no room for dessert. We will be back, and found that the menu changes often. We are so happy to have such a great place in East Asheville. read more
