As a local and not hearing much about this place I was skeptical. We certainly received VIP treatment. I have a gluten allergy and our server Marianne caught something I missed that would have led to me not being able to eat my meal. Sooo happy for her attention to detail. Not on that but Chef Patrick made a whole new dish not in the menu to meet my dietary needs. Honestly, I think what he can up with tastes better than what the original dish would have but I love vegetables so I'm definitely bias. So glad we decided to check in out inside the crown plaza hotel. I do have to say the chairs are really comfortable chairs. The big windows are nice. Such a nice spot and really great outdoor patio! We got dinner early as we had 6 hours of driving. Service was good, as there were only 6 people dining at this hour. I got the braised beef and polenta, which was prepared perfectly. This is really a 4.5 review. The view of the grounds of the Crowne Plaza Resort hotel was pleasing/calming. Two breakfasts and a dinner were all great - especially the service from Sam, Keenan & Teresa. Even better was the chef at the omelette/waffle station with her personal recipe Madelines. She was so pleasant & chatty. Waffles, pancakes were served with 'real' maple syrup. As a New Yorker, I'm a self avowed & shameless maple syrup bigot. Oatmeal was good, traditional breakfast buffet (with cheese grits) - fruit was very fresh and smoked salmon with capers was a big plus. At dinner, loved the house-made soup and the porterhouse of pork - though they are still hooked on 'old school' cooking pork to medium, it was juicy & tender as well as well flavored. This restaurant was part of a Holiday Inn Resort. What a disappointment. We were seated quickly by a very polite and nice lady. It probably took our hostess 10-15 minutes to bring menus and take our drink order. Our food order was finally taken around 20minutes. We both got a steak and they were both not prepared as asked but we were hungry and didn't complain we just ate them. They were ok. Side orders of baked potatoes were good. Tried a sour apple Moscow mule and sour was correct. This was the high light of the entire meal. Needless to say will not be returning. Walked through an absolutely gorgeous hotel lobby that must have been updated recently, and enjoyed the $14.95 breakfast buffet at Overlook. It had all the basics with a few nice added touches, and was well worth the price. Service was efficient and friendly, and Rachel made me a beautiful veggie omelette. It felt like a mini vacay without having to leave town. I tend to favor local places over chains like Crown Plaza, but hey, the workers are local, and no doubt have bills to pay. My sister and I stayed at the Crown Plaza (March 4-5, 2023) which I can't say enough good things about it! We were able to check in early and got a beautiful room with a balcony view! The Overlook restaurant was the icing on the cake. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip at the bar and it was amazing! Then we had brunch at the restaurant and it was delicious! After driving and working all day I didn't feel like exploring. Didn't have far to go though as local Yelpers pinned the restaurant in my hotel as a 5 Star location. I started with a Crowne Margarita $8, which was a signature cocktail that was most refreshing! In the mood for some lite bites I went with a Wedge salad, (translated: a whole head of lettuce), with cherry tomatoes, plenty of bacon, scallions an blue cheese dressing. $8 My next selection was the Artisian Meat and Cheese Board with Roast beef, salami, capacola ham and sausage. Brie wedges, smoked gouda, gruyere with strawberry slices and grapes. Crostinis with homemade orange marmalade! This board feeds 3! (I Didn't know how large it was!) $16 Took meats and cheeses, along with the orange marmalade and fruit back to my room. With my IN ROOM COFFEE MAKER, I'm all set for tomorrow's breakfast! read more

Had a great time dining in this restaurant tucked in the back of the Crowne Plaza Hotel (where I stayed as a guest). There's a small patio out back where I ate 100% of my meals. They have a fabulous breakfast buffet for $14, with all the fixings, including an egg/omelette station for custom eggs, and southern staples like grits and biscuits and gravy. I had one of the pizzas for lunch (which I brought to eat by the pool close by), and it was pretty good. Decent pesto, decent amount of meat, but it seemed more like an under seasoned flatbread than a good crusty pizza. So it was just OK. I had dinner there too, and had a VERY hearty beet salad with shrimp (shrimp was a $7 add on to the $11 salad). It was chockablock full of greens, pecans, and a lot of beets (so many that I peed purple for the next 24h!). The dressing was pretty tasty, and I was pretty full afterwards. Wine was a smallish pour for the $9 sticker, but that seemed to be the norm at every restaurant we visited in Asheville. I liked the salad so much that I had it 2/2 nights I ate dinner there. Be prepared to advocate for which table you want to sit at...I was occasionally prompted to the "back row" when I preferred the unobstructed front row view of the rolling lawns and zip line on the property. I just had to speak up and I sat where I liked. No biggie. The staff was attentive and not overbearing during service. Was the breakfast hostess a little sassy and a little too proud of the buffet as mentioned in other reviews? Yep, but I'm sure it comes from a place of Southern love and hospitality to make sure all the diners leave satisfied and with full bellies and not a big deep hole in their pockets. We felt fortunate to secure a table for Thanksgiving dinner here back in early November however, when we arrived, it was not what we expected at all. First of all, you need to pay 'upfront' before you are seated and they automatically added a 20% tip. We were not informed of this prior to by the way. While we appreciate that people are willing to work on the holiday and we aren't opposed to a 20% tip when warranted but we basically had one person come fill our water glasses, then we served our selves at the buffet - all the while tables around us (including ours eventually) were filled with dirty dishes. Just who's receiving this required 20% tip? And for their food choices; it would be help if mangement took a look at all the 'wasted food' left on plates as not tasteful enough to be eaten....what a waste of money esp in these times! The only thing(s) we found 'good' was the prime rib and the lobster bisque soup (good lobster taste however no lobster pieces included) and those aren't even typical Thanksgiving dinner choices. And all of this for the 'bargain' price of $128.00 for two - we said we probably could have gotten a much better meal at The Cracker Barrell!!! We stayed at the crown plaza and purchased the discount breakfast vouchers for $25 add on to our hotel purchase. The deal was you each for one entree and one non alcoholic drink for free. We did it for all 3 days and I would say it was worth it! There was a wait Sunday morning when we went down but not Saturday or Monday which was great. All three servers we had over the time we good. Very attentive and made sure we had what we need. And we got to sit doors on the patio two of the days, which is something I love! I don't usually get to have breakfast with my fiancé so it a fave of mine during vacations. I had something different everyday. I had the French toast casserole, then pancakes and then eggs your way( bacon two eggs and breakfast potatoes) which all were really good! My fiancé had the chicken and waffles and then the egg omelet and he said it was the best omelet he has ever had!! We didn't try any drinks but they did have mimosa, Bloody Mary, and Bellini I believe. We had OJ each morning which hit the spot! Inside The Crowne Resort the restaurant is inviting with a 1970's decor and when we were dining they were playing some awesome 70's music. The hostess, waitress, manager and food delivery person were all so nice. They were kind enough to take pictures and appeared to be genuinely interested in our dining adventure. My young granddaughters enjoyed the opportunity to order their own meals and the waitress was very kind about answering their phone questions. It was a perfect experience for a Oma and Grandgirls! The food was delicious. Our table had the roasted beet salad, grilled chicken, fries, pizza, fruit, quesadilla and fresh bread. This is the worst restaurant I've ever been to with a wonderful waitress saying that the chicken is fall of the bone and you can cut it w a butter knife ! no way and not not half a chicken ! On 2 Sep we visited the Overlook restaurant for the 2nd time, driving 2.5 hours from Knoxville just for the dinner experience. Unlike many restaurants, the Overlook changes their menu occasionally, keeping the main entree, but updating the side dishes. Our favorite is the Center-cut Pork Chop, the best, most tender, we've ever eaten. We arrived early for our "open table" reservation so as to have a cocktail at the well-run bar. As the weather was perfect, we were seated outside, as were most others who arrived after us. Service was quick, professional, and friendly, even though the patio quickly filled up. We were greeted by managers and even the Chef took time to leave his busy kitchen to ensure our dinner was as expected. Our first visit was when the ground was snow covered, so we didn't realize until this visit that the restaurant has their own vegetable/herb garden next to the patio. Watching the zip-line riders nearby was quite entertaining. We will definitely be back soon! I do agree with other reviewers - call the restaurant to check the hours, as they sometime conflict with what is posted on-line. The Overlook closes after the lunch crowd for several hours before reopening for the dinner crowd. I highly recommend eating here, and even the burgers are quite excellent. read more

If I could give this 0 stars i would. Food is not up to par with the prices. I ordered a Moscow mule, and it wasn't prepared right nor in the right cup. Then i got the brisket, it was way over cooked. My husband ordered the grilled chicken on a croissant and it was pretty good. The chef was so rude. We had a friend order a filet mignon. When it was brought out it was clearly not a filet mignon. There was also Random grains of rice on her plate. The steak was full of gravy and chopped up. The waiter took it back and then the chef came it to argue with us. It was embarrassing and frustrating. We were offered breakfast coupons, but are not interested in eating there anymore. It was an interesting experience at The Overlook restaurant this morning. My wife an I went down to have a morning tea and coffee and to enjoy a quiet read. The hostess in full confrence presentation voice announced to every group of guests that were seated that "this table has a view..." and then gave detailed instructions on the layout of the buffet and how someone would proceed through the line as if the guests of a Crowne Plaza hotel had never experienced the complications of negotiating the hazards of a hotel breakfast buffet. Every server on the floor recieved at least one emergency phone call while on the floor with there cell phone ring set to max volume and immediately answering while walking the restaurant. Be aware of them overcharging or putting different amount on their system. First of all, their food was good. However, they have rang the check in different amount than the posted menu price. Thankfully, I was able to catch this and have the waiter correct the mistake. I got back from the trip and reviewed my bank statement and they have charged a different amount than the receipt I had. I had to call in but there were no managers for couple of days to help me fix this. Resolving this with the bank now. Double check your receipts!!! read more

We were staying at the hotel, so we figured we would walk down to the restaurant and eat dinner. I'll say this first, the prices don't seem to match the quality of the food. If i'm paying $9 for a spinach dip then I would like to have enough chips to eat it with. Aside from the prices, this review is strictly about their customer service. I ordered a dirty martini, with vodka instead of gin which was great. I then ordered a second one, and it came back with a hair in it. My server, Salem was very helpful and took it back immediately. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my new drink back and when I tried it, it had an odd taste. I told our server that it tasted like it was made with gin and not vodka so he told me he would get the manager because 2 messed up drinks was unacceptable. The manager came back with a confused look on her face, and asked what the problem was. I expressed my concerns on it tasting off and she questioned me as if I didn't know what I was talking about. She proceeded to tell me that she was 100% sure it was made with vodka (although she didn't make it herself). I told her to smell it because it even smelled like it was off. She offered to make me a new one, but by this time I was so frustrated with our conversation that I didn't want to pay anymore money to that restaurant. She never once apologized for their mistake. Any restaurant with high standards should make sure that their workers are there to cater to their customers, especially a manager. I did not feel that way with her. Salem came back to check and make sure everything was resolved and asked if I would like a coke on him. Even though I had some issues, I appreciated him wanting to fix the problem. So overall I gave this restaurant 1 star. read more
