Dr. Patel's staff is pleasant and professional. I love Dr. Patel, he really cares about my health. It doesn't hurt that he's funny too. Dr. Patel tells it like it is, lets me know that I need to lose weight and gives me warnings of where I am heading if I don't. I know what he's telling me is true, it motivates me when he tells me. Dr. Patel's waiting room is usually filled with patients, bring your patience. Because Dr. Patel takes time to listen to his patients, doesn't rush them, expect him to run behind schedule . I don't mind the wait because I expect it and I know that Dr. Patel is the best. Dr. Patel's objective is to keep his patients healthy, but we patients have to do our part. read more

This doctor is the most stupid doctor I've encountered. Obscene, unprofessional behavior, with no manners; I don't understand how he became an endocrinologist. His plan of care is subpar and not up to the standards of doctors trained in the USA. He does not follow evidence-based research practices. Do not come to the clinic of this international graduate, stupid doctor. Please do not bring your family members to him. He is well known in the Antelope Valley hospital for his rude behavior and abrasive manner (as evidenced by the complaints from the nurses who cared for his patients for 12 hours), and I don't understand why he is still practicing. Dr Patel is a great doctor. Yes, he is very direct but he is telling you what you need to hear. Sometimes it is hard to hear. He is telling you the truth and regardless how you feel you do need to follow his direction because he is looking out for you. He is good at what he does. This doctor is exceedingly rude and unprofessional. As a diabetic, I was referred to him. Regarding him being a great doctor, I totally disagree. To say he is a great doctor would require exposure and or treatment by other doctors in the same medical field. His staff is polite and respectful, but the doctor totally lacks civility. Perhaps, this is attributive to his medical training, as he was not trained at any medical school in the United States. Prior to my walking out of his office, one of his staff apologized for the doctor's rude behavior, especially since I was fuming. The VA referred him because of the geographical location which was most convenient for me. People are not aware Dr. Patel's rude behavior is well known throughout Antelope Valley. When I walked out, it was with resolve never to return, and I haven't. It is my opinion, perhaps mine alone, Dr. Patel has internalized feelings of inferiority as he was not trained in the United States, for he received his medical training in Grenada--I think. While Dr. Patel was on vacation he called for an appointment with my mother and got off us the call quick we were not allowed to ask questions since he wanted us off the call quick he said everything was fine and keep doing what we were doing. So we continued everything as is. The following month when she had an in person appointment he went crazy and started yelling at her how nothing had changed and continued to yell that if she was not making changes she could stop going to him. How is it that we followed his direction to continue to do as we were and then be scolded. He is very unprofessional, rude and unwilling to listen. I have never dealt with such an unpleasant doctor. Seems he's only out for insurance money since he takes phone appointments and zoom appointments while he's overseas. Been putting up with this guy for about 3 years, he is constantly pushing his limits and is verbally disrespectful. He travels out of the country a lot, cancels appointments often, office hours are inconsistent, long wait times... but the first time you say anything about his office staff not having paperwork ready on time, he raises his voice. I was attempting to explain why my blood results came back late, and instead of letting me finish, this little guy interrupted to tell me, I'm the problem. The late blood draw request, the Lab Corp's broken fax machine, etc. He didn't even let me explain any of that. Just talking over me, and told me his staff is perfect. The little doctor thinks I should come back, an extra trip, to get the same blood order request I've been getting for 3 years; that's appropriate to him, instead of his office having them ready at the end of my appointment. Never mind the lab with the broken fax.... He was so confrontational I told him to watch his mouth. This little guy came unglued, so I told him what I really thought of him. Totally Piece Of Ish. Don't say you weren't warned. Every appointments take 2 hours on average. Keep your schedule clear if you want to see this guy. read more

I was going to Dr Patel for a year He was nice at 1st..until my last appt. He screamed at me because I took my medication prior to my blood work told me he's not a pill pusher and told me to find a new Dr. I waited for an hour to see him and was out of his office with in 4 mins after him yelling at me. He's a jerk and I've never been treated worse by a Dr. I've now found a new Endocrinologist and she's amazing. I don't live in the AV and was traveling to see Patel now I'm traveling to Bakersfield. I have believed that when the day comes that you no longer have the desire nor the wherewithal to promote best practices within your field of expertise, it is time to get out! When you take a loved one to the Dr. it is not because you are seeking to be treated like you are just a notch in the belt. We were referred by our physician to go and have some further testing done to find some answers for a member of my immediate family. We gathered all the necessary documents requested from Dr. Patel's office and showed up on time, just to be told by this poor excuse of a physician that he quit coming to my hometown because the residents are stupid. The medical providers are idiots, and he didn't want to waste his time. He asked us why we were there, and we explained, because we were referred to you by our physician due to specific symptoms of a progressing health issue. He said, "Have you researched your condition to find out what caused it?" "First off, we know what causes this condition but have come to you hoping to get some recommendations of treatment options." I could not believe what came out of his mouth. This man had the audacity, and I quote, "Look man, I am just here for the money. We are all here for the money. Your doctors in Ridgecrest are in it for the money, that is why we do this, it's not because we care about you. Nobody cares about you. I don't care about you. You are fat that's your problem." In over 30 years of being in emergency medicine and in-hospital medical professional I have never heard such inappropriate garbage spewed out of a physician's mouth. I think the no star option needs to be available! Any and all negative reviews on Dr Patel are 100% true and accurate! Please do your home work on this Dr. He has multiple listings. Every time a listing gets to many bad reviews, another listing pops up for him. He is rude, unkind and so unprofessional on every level he could be. He told me that he doesn't have time to "f**k around" and if he doesn't see results like he wants to see, he'll drop me. The following month, I came in bringing my numbers down 100 points and having lost 6 lbs. He started riding my ass again and when I pointed out that my numbers and weight have both improved...He said that's a little improvement but it still sucks! He is talking to me about diet and nutrition. As I'm trying to inform him of our living and food situation at home, he cuts me off by saying to just stop talking, be quiet, that all he is hearing are excuses from me. So I cut him off and said, this is just the opposite of that, I'm trying to let him know my current situation and, before he cut me off, how we are coping with it as best we can. I asked him about using OmniPod and he told me no, that I have to earn it and then he'll reccomend it. I filed a complaint with my insurance company and his response was that I was unwilling to take or follow his advice and that I was an unmanaged diabetic and that he never cussed at me or in front of me. If I didn't want to follow my Drs instructions or if I was just being a stubborn fatty, then why did I used the Pod, why did my numbers improve, why did I ask my primary to refer me to another Endocrinologist? On my second visit, after I pointed out my improvement, he did prescribe me the OmniPod. I loved it, it completely makes you notice and accountable for your numbers and results. I was looking forward to taking my Pod into him and shoving it in his face. I continued to lose weight and my numbers barely broke 100. Unfortunately after using four Pods with no issue, my next four Pods were defective. I had to call twice to have replacement Pods sent out. When the first 2 malfunctioned and the next two replacements didn't work either. Now it's time for my third appointment with this Jerk. I'm stressing, having anxiety over the thought of having to go in and tell him what has gone on and why I only have one month of data on my Pod. I'm dreading him telling me all he hears are excuses. I'm trying to prepare myself mentally for what's to come with my next visit. Then I thought, forget him...he's not gonna drop me! I'm gonna drop him! He doesn't deserve me as a patient and he certainly doesn't deserve my insurance payments. This Dr has had his license/practice suspended at least once, maybe more. I told my insurance company that they need to do their homework on the Drs in their network. Read the review, not just on Yelp but on Google too and take them seriously. My primary has yet to schedule me with a new Endocrinologist, but my primary has switched recently too. We'll see who the new primary will recommend. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS DR! The wait is excessive. Always a long unnecessary wait. His style and mannerism is not necessarily the best and he is not the most diplomatic. I do believe if you follow his instructions and cooperate he will put you on the right track and you will see results. When it comes to diabetes blood test don't lie, so do not try to lie or B.S. or waste time trying to quibble with him. If you are obese he will expect you to put forth the necessary effort and lose weight. He will not tolerate or accept any of your frivolous lame excuses, so don't try. And you will lose weight as long as you follow his dietary guidelines. My biggest problem is the ridicules wait. On average of an hour and a half past your scheduled appointment time. Other than that he's a good doctor. Just follow his diet instructions and you'll do fine. read more

I've been a patient for over 10 years. It's been getting worse at the office the last couple times I've visited. Patel himself was very rude about one of my doctors and used aggressively rude profanity. Today I called the office as they left me a voicemail to reschedule an appointment I had for months, due to Patel not being in. I call and I'm put on hold, they say one caller ahead. 20 minutes later I assume there's a glitch in their phone system so I hang up--thinking I can tell one of the office members when they answer the phone. Instead they answer very quickly to where you can't get in a single word, and said 4 callers ahead of me. I should have just called back later, but something about them not allowing a single word in before being put on hold bothered me. I called back, many times, trying to have them speak to me like a human and have a 30 second conversation instead of placing me on hold. It was at a point where I was extremely anxious, and this was taking a lot of time out of my morning. Finally I get connected, to where the office staff was clearly just angry at me. They said if I had an emergency I need to call an emergency number... I couldn't even explain what happened to me at that point as I was so flustered and angry at how inhuman I felt to how they were treating me. Having office staff be so rude to not even speak to a patient briefly is beyond me. I do not care to go back here. I'll be surprised if they're open another 10 years, many folks in the AV are not a fan of Patel that I've spoken to. It's a shame. read more

So far I have only seen this joke once. I arrived on time for my appointment but had to wait an hour and a half to even get my vitals checked. It was another hour in a room before he even saw me. I am a type 1 diabetic and thus am seeing him following up being in the hospital with ketoacidosis. He put me on a keto diet and gave me a particular insulin regimen. My blood sugar has gotten below 40 at least 12 times in the last week due to this. Even worse, I have bi polar depression and have been known to be suicidal at times. I understand he's to the point and a bit blunt but to tell me that no one cares about me and therefore I have to be the one to take care of me is a low blow that was completely unwarranted. And my personal experience with him was the worst experience with an endocrinologist I have ever had. Took me off meds that I was on for over two years and told me to see him in a few months after he returned from vacation. With absolutely no regard for my health... when I asked him about a particular protocol and to please read a letter from a very highly noted endocrinologist, his response was I'm the professional here and you should follow what I tell you not anyone else. Dr. Patel is the best endocrinologist I've ever been to. I literally do not have enough words to describe how wonderful this Doctor is. I had been struggling for years to control my thyroid issue with countless doctors not being able to give me a correct diagnosis. I was always under the impression that I had hyperthyroid disorder and I had been taking medication for 10 years. every doctor I had prior to this one, just keep giving me medication to slow my thyroid down. My previous doctor who was the thyroid specialist ran more tests and gave me the diagnosis of hashimoto's. I am not a dumb person and reading the results, it looked more like Graves. I'm not sure if bc I had been on methimazole for ten years, it effectively put my thyroid in hospice. Lol. But we tried different meds, different doses until we got the current rx and letme tell you, I feel great. For those who call him awful, it's because he recommends a balanced diet and exercise and these people don't follow through. Most people don't have the time. So as you can tell by reviews, you either adore Dr Patel, or he is definitely not your cup of tea. I have been with him for several years now to manage hasimoto's and a large thyroid nodule. I have spent thousands out of pocket on different docs, holistic and traditional, to find someone who would work with me on management, not just prescribe the same treatment every other doctor does. Dr Patel has fit the bill perfectly. Yes, he's rude... he doesn't coddle you. If you're off track he will let you know. If you come in with excuses he will literally say "Blah, Blah, Blah, now what are YOU going to do to change this". He may put you on a "diet", he may play around with dosage on your meds, he may even cuss you out for not caring about yourself, and I love when he does. Nothing makes me want to whip myself into shape more then an impending appt. Many mistake his passion for people with rudeness, but I know it's coming from a genuine desire to help his patients. He has family in India and sometimes has to go help back home, so he may up and leave the country, but the staff is always good at informing you what the plan is. And as far as wait is concerned, I have yet to find someone good you don't wait for, bring a book! I was sent to Dr. Patel through my primary care doctor to help with my diabetes. He is the first doctor to really help me get my diabetes under control. He doesn't sugar coat anything. He tells it like it is. When I do well, he let's me know. When I screw up, he let's me know. I have been trying for years to lose weight without success. Under Dr. Patel's care, I have lost over 25 lbs. I feel so much better. He's straight forward and he's informative. Yes, you do have to wait a bit before you're seen, but I have 3 other doctors that I see and I wait the same amount of time to see them. I like Dr, Patel and I'm grateful for his help. I have done just fine without him after his rudeness six years ago. My endocrinologist now, who is very kind, said that I actually cured my prediabetes. His name is Dr. Tebi in Newhall. Yes, I go the extra distance to see a better doctor. It's been all the difference! I bought a glucose monitor and checked my sugar several times a day to see what was making my blood sugar spike. I modified my diet accordingly, and I had to make my body less insulin resistent. I have also found out since then that the prediabetes is 'not my fault' as many, including Dr. Patel, lead people to believe. There is such a thing as having a genetic predisposition to it. I also have an autoimmune condition that predisposes me also. Yes, it takes care, diet, work and exercise but don't let anyone make you think it is entirely your fault. This is so typical of some medical professionals these days, except for a select few. Be careful to get enough nutrition as this doctor does not seem to care about this. His 'list' of what to eat was meager, especially being a vegetarian at the time. He actually told me it's not his place to address my diet. This is crucial thing to address for this condition. Dr. Ashiq V, Patel is one of the most caring Doctors I have come to know. Ignore comments about him being rude. He cares a great deal about his patients. He wants all patients to be HEALTHY. Just follow his instructions and you will feel the difference. I went from 290LBS to 217LBS. Yea at times +5LBS or -5LBS at times. Great Doctor and I highly recommend him to everyone. It's disappointing that this is the only endocrinologist option in the Antelope Valley. I've met with this joke of a Dr three times, and every visit was worse than the last. I was used to getting my A1C the days of my visits at USC west side medical center, and blood work done in house. This terrible place made me wait a month to know my A1C, sent me across the hall to a worn down phlebotomist office, and through all that, I had to wait 45 minutes just to have my vitals taken. This is the most unprofessional and rudest Dr that I have ever experienced. He should not be in the medical field. My mother who is an elderly black woman with diabetes and 70 percent blind was experiencing anxiety every time she had an appointment with Dr. Patel. She would avoid his appointments and at times cried after leaving his office. I wanted to know why so I went to an appointment with her. I normally wait in the lobby. Dr Patel spoke to my mother like a child, told her she was wasting his time , told her she doesn't listen and yelled at her. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I interjected and told him it was not right to speak to an elderly woman in this way. He then told me we could leave and he didn't need her as a patient. His office staff hear the entire thing and did nothing. Once I spoke up in my mothers defense, he asked me to leave. He is unhelpful, rude, and racist and sexust. I researched and met other females specifically black females that had similar issues. He definately disrespectful women. He yells at his fragile elderly patients. Oh where do I even begin. Dr. Patel... I don't know how to even refer to this man as a doctor. I had a complete thyroidectomy at AV hospital. They gave me a few days worth of thyroid meds and a follow up with Dr. Patel in 3 days for more meds. I call and he's out of town. Staff won't give me an appointment and I have no way of getting thyroid meds and now I have no thyroid. They tell me he will be gone for 2 weeks. I called the ENT who did the surgery. They were confused and didn't know what to do. But gave me a prescription enough for until he gets back. Finally gets back I get an appointment and go. The man is extremely rude. I can hear him yelling at patients in the next room. He finally comes to me. Doesn't ask how my recovery is going since surgery. So I let him know about the medication issue and he replies with "oh I didn't know I had to ask for your permission to go on a vacation" anyway. A few months with him and my health was getting worse and worse. I could barely walk. Heart rate was in the 150's. Fainting spells. Breathless. He did labs and kept upping my dose of thyroid meds. At my last appointment with him (I'm a grown woman) my mom has to hold my hand and walk me in because I couldn't walk anymore. My heart rate was in the 160's. I couldn't catch my breath. He said my thyroid level is too low and he's upping my dose again. He also said my blood work came back and I'm diabetic. Called the nurse in with an insulin pen to teach me how to use it and give myself insulin daily. No glucometer no telling me what my labs are. I walked out with the pen to the hallway where my parents were waiting for me to help me walk again. My dad took the pen from me and said this mans insane. Called UCLA and got me in right away. Labs were done and my thyroid level was critically high. I was admitted right away and hooked up to heart monitors. I told them about the diabetes. The endo said I'm nowhere near even prediabetic. They called the health department and filed a complaint and submitted their side of their evaluation. The health department came to my house after I was back from the hospital. Took a report. A year later I received a letter that their office had been seized and his license had been reprimanded. I really don't know what happened after that but I see he's still practicing. I met a few women in the AV that told me similar experiences with this "doctor" one young woman at the lab told me he had her thyroid go so crazy she had to have a hysterectomy and broke down crying. Seriously stay far far away from this place. I know there aren't many options in the area but this mans dangerous. read more

I really do like Dr. Patel, he's always 100% honest, and some people take offense to that because he doesn't "beat around the bush" or try to preserve your "feelings". He's just telling you like it is, he's even made me cry before lol (my own fault for stopping my meds because I couldn't make it in for my appts, he was looking out for me, that's what he does..) If your levels are way off and it's because of something YOU did, heck yeah he should show you his concern. Again, some people just can't take how blunt he is. My main issues with his office: The ladies/maybe it's one lady actually at the front, hard to tell over the phone can come off as RUDE. I get that they are busy, but when I call I am ALWAYS left on hold FOREVER, so long that after waiting over 10-15 minutes it reverts to some voicemail system that then shuts off (only wasted a fraction of my day, but still), Annoying! Sometimes she's kind of rude on the phone, which is annoying -_- But in person, like always nice lol. Again, they are a busy office, but come on; have a little common courtesy/ respect for your patients. I come from a land "far far away", they can be a little more pleasant. Also really irritates me they can NEVER help with giving info out over the phone, I mean like ALL my other specialists do that, why not them if you're "in a pinch"? I can't travel an hour and a half *one way* to collect some info for another doctor that you can just give, I mean what are medical releases for anyways? End of rant..
