I would strongly discourage anyone from using this veterinary clinic. During what was already a stressful situation, the veterinarian chose to place blame on me rather than listen to my concerns. Even worse, I was essentially called a liar when explaining my pet's history and symptoms. As a pet owner, I expect professional, respectful communication and a willingness to work together in the best interest of my animal. Instead, I felt dismissed, judged, and unfairly accused. There is a significant difference between having a professional disagreement and openly questioning a client's honesty. Unfortunately, this experience completely eroded my trust in the practice. Dr. Cochran took a pause and told me her honest concerns about a potential life and death situation. I've had other vets reassure me, suggest waiting and seeing, or even pass me on to another vet in situations like this, and she did say those were options, but what I needed was her opinion; thank goodness I took it, because in spite of my dog's lack of emergent symptoms, the situation would have turned deadly very quickly. As it is, my dog is all better, wreaking havoc and tracking in mud, and I'll always be grateful for that. read more

New to the area from PA. Have a new puppy that needed her next set of shots. Everyone was wonderful!! When we where there a family came in covered in blood and in tears that the dog was hit by a car. The staff jumped into action and apologized to us it was gunna be a little bit. Ummmmmmm thank you but go go go take care of the 911 situation and don't apologize. Again I'll say the nurses and doctors are awesome and amazing to us for our first 2 visits. I have been bringing my pets here for years. Never have issues paying for anything and it's always costly. I don't even care I just pay for it because I love my pets. I also like the Doctors. My mothers dog (also a patient) that I typically pay for- died today. I'm at work so I called to let them know not to ask my sister for money as she was dropping him off. I even told them to look up my account so they can see who my dogs are and be reminded of the fact that there's never been a concern for payment. I also said I would be by after work to pay and pick out an urn for him. While I appreciate them not asking her for money I find it totally classless that they would call me and tell me they had to take payment before they could do anything with the dog. I asked who asked her to call me at first she said "the office manager", then I asked her again and she said "the practice owner" so I asked who is the owner? The receptionist said "Dr. Campbell" so I asked if she was available and she said no she was in surgery. After telling me everyone was on lunch because it was the middle of the day. I don't care what anyone is doing I would like someone to explain their rationale. If you have a client paying for everything all of time whether it's $200 or $1200 why are you insisting on prepayment of $239 or whatever for our dogs cremation when everyone's in a heightened emotional state. I understand running a business but you should also understand: building a rapport with your clients, case sensitive, considering the source, emotional intelligence. Sometimes you can have a successful business by means of trade and not an aptitude for interpersonal skills. They may be veterinarians but not good business owners or what I suspect, their receptionists and office managers have little to no training or education. It's crazy.... People spend a lot of money on their pets and the fact that we've been going here for years and they can't wait 4 hours for someone else to come pay is ridiculous. I can guarantee the folks picking up for the cremation services will not be there in the next few hours. I'm seriously reconsidering using this clinic. I can't help but be offended! read more

I am beyond disappointed with this practice. I have been a loyal customer to this practice for 4 years. I have 3 dogs and a cat and have spent thousands of dollars here. We sent our 15 year old senior dog here this week after he was not feeling well, they sent him home to us with medications in worse condition than when he walked in there. He had to be carried to the car. 15 minutes after returning home he collapsed. When I called back to tell them what had happened, they advised I take him to the emergency veterinary office. He passed away at the emergency vet a few hours later. When I called to let Ashland Veterinary know, I also asked if they would allow me to return the medications that they had sent home with him ($200). All medications are unopened. The front desk staff were very nice about processing this request and compassionate, however it was denied by the owner. I was advised to hold on to it, "in case I need it for my other dog", who is 3x the size of the one it was prescribed for. I checked the laws to make sure returning RX meds was not something prohibited by law, it is not. It is discretionary to the practice. I will not be returning here with any of my animals, ever again. read more

Seriously can not say enough good things about this practice! My dog has had arthritis problems since I adopted him and I can't imagine working with better people through his treatment! The front desk is always so friendly and happy to interact with when I need a last minute appointment. I LOVE Dr Cochran and Dr Gretchen! They have been so supportive in treatments for my pup and are always happy to answer all of my questions! I haven't interacted with the other drs but based off of every single other person at this practice I would imagine they are also amazing! GREAT staff that truly loves animals and their (maybe sometimes helicopter) parents! read more

Just wanted to say Thank you for working our little dog in while we were on vacation and needed someone to look at him. I called and they fit us in before their appointments started. Our dog suffers from itchy skin and was not feeling well and had open sores on his side from licking and scratching and we were not going to be back home for another week. They give him a shot and cleaned up his sores and he is feeling so much better. Great service and very friendly staff!! read more

One star is even too generous for this money-hungry corrupt establishment that cares nothing about animals only pushing drugs, vaccinations and unnecessary surgeries. We had an appointment to check out a large lump on our dogs neck. At that appointment, they muzzled my 7lb sweet little morkie because he wasn't "up to date" on his rabies vaccine. He has had them in the past but since he's been fairly healthy until this point and we never board our animals it didn't seem necessary especially since he's an inside dog and only goes outside to use the bathroom in our fenced in backyard. Back to the muzzle, I completely understand they have to take these safety precautions as not all dogs are the same. They went ahead and drained the tumor, tested it and it turned out to be a basil cell tumor and would require surgery in order to remove and send off to the pathologist to see if it was malignant or not. We scheduled the surgery for the week following. The night before surgery, they called to give us the details, not to eat after 8pm, etc. Along with the details they asked me if we wanted to do blood work prior to the surgery to ensure his organs were working properly. I declined this blood work because again, I could tell her "strongly advise" line she used multiple times was a money grab and the fact they hadn't mentioned it until this point just didn't sit right with me. They also asked if I wanted the tumor to be sent off to a pathologist. Of course, I said yes but wasn't this included in the "tumor removal surgery quote" as this was the whole point of the surgery, to test the tumor? Dr. Gretchen & I had talked extensively about this at our initial appointment, maybe they were just confirming, if I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. The day of surgery, my husband arrives with our dog to drop him off as its a fairly quick procedure and we would pick him up that same afternoon. Come to find out, they said he would need about 4 different vaccinations before going into surgery. WHY WAS THIS NOT MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY especially since they were well aware of this at our first appointment, hence the muzzle? I know as well as any other doctor out there, getting all 4 vaccinations in one sitting especially THE DAY OF SURGERY is NOT smart at all, as vaccinations are known to suppress the immune system! I asked to speak to the owner immediately. She comes in and says I'm sorry it's just our "protocol" we can't operate on animals that aren't fully vaccinated. I said, so if a dog gets hit on the road in front of your office you won't operate on him because you don't know anything about his vaccine history? She says, no that's not what I'm saying of course we would operate on him, he would be considered a "sick" dog. I respond by saying, so my dog sitting here with a cancerous tumor on his neck isn't considered "sick"? She said no, that's considered elective surgery. Okay, so back to the "protocol" aka money grab, clearly it has nothing to do with the "safety" of their doctors if they DO in fact, operate on dogs where the vaccine history is unknown. I told her to collect all of our dogs files, and we were out of there and never plan on returning. Rewind to a couple of years ago, the same dog, my little morkie had been throwing up and having diarrhea all night. He was starting to get a little lethargic and I was concerned because we were about head out of town a couple days later. I took him in thinking he's gotten a stomach bug, we could get some medicine and could go on about our way. At the time we saw Dr. Gretchen (same doc as above). She immediately wants to run all of this testing on him as she thinks it could potentially be something he swallowed and is stuck blocking his airways. We did bloodwork, X-Rays, another set of X-Rays with dye to see if there was any blockage. He ended up staying the night and was set for emergency surgery the next day. She was convinced based on the images that it was a blockage of some sort and something was lodged in there. As this was unexpected and scary news for sure, we agreed to move forward with the surgery. They had to open up his intestines, which is major and likely complicated surgery only to find NOTHING and basically perform a $4,000 "explorative" surgery. I was so upset when I found this out and asked if they could cover some of this cost since nothing was found. They said at the time, no unfortunately surgery is experimental and is never guaranteed. I should have taken this as the sign to leave this corrupt practice, but unfortunately I didn't as its the only vet we've ever been to. I've NEVER left a review online EVER, but STAY AWAY from this corrupt practice--they only care about getting your money & nothing about the well being of your animals, so very sad and extremely unfortunate. read more

The passion that this place has is remarkable. I recently adopted a rescue and was referred to this vet by a friend. We made an appointment and our doctor happened to be Dr. Gretchen. She was absolutely amazing. She sat down on the floor with myself and my fur baby and explained everything to us. She was honest about everything and was very compassionate in doing so. Granted I got news that no owner wants to hear but she went over in detail all the options we had. And on the 3rd visit there I got the news that I never thought I would hear... but Dr. Gretchen made it a little easier to absorb.... because she was honest about everything. I highly recommend this vet... If i could give them a 10 I would. read more
