Instead of addressing the clear infection, the vet, Dr. Burke, tried to diagnose her with gastroenteritis--despite the fact that she had no vomiting or diarrhea to suggest that. I can only assume this assumption was made based on her breed (Great Dane), which is completely inappropriate. We approved necessary bloodwork, which came back fine, but they still failed to address the actual issue. They prescribed antibiotics and sent her home without even cleaning the infected site nor offering pain management. She left the clinic still covered in dried blood and pus. To make matters worse, her records were filled with errors and inaccurate information. Having previously worked in a veterinary office myself, I know how records should be documented, and these made no sense. When I called to request corrections, the response I received was dismissive at best. Edit / Update: My girl has since been seen by her regular vet, who discovered multiple pockets of infection that developed because the original wound was never properly cleaned or clipped. What began as a small, treatable infection has now spread across her entire shoulder. She has been in pain, and the stress this has caused me has been overwhelming. All of this could have been avoided had Dr. Burke taken the time to actually listen to our concerns and properly examine her, rather than jumping to an unrelated and irrelevant diagnosis. At her regular vet, she was immediately cleaned up and properly treated, which revealed the true severity of the infection. Their pricing was straightforward and transparent, with the flat fee including blood work and everything else needed for the procedure. When I arrived, the intake process took about 30 minutes, and the staff carefully walked me through exactly what they were going to do. They told me I could pick my cat up around 5 PM, which gave me the rest of the day to explore Richmond. While waiting, I grabbed breakfast at The Fancy Biscuit, walked around Virginia Commonwealth University, did the canal walk, learned about the history of the bridge the Confederates destroyed while retreating from Union forces, and even stopped by a brewery with an amazing outdoor area. Richmond ended up being a really great day trip. When I picked my cat up, they told me he did great. He did end up needing many teeth removed, but I could immediately tell he had been well cared for. We're now two days post-op and he's already eating again. They also sent us home with all the medication he needed. This place is absolutely amazing. Affordable, compassionate, organized, and clearly staffed by people who genuinely care about animals.

That's extremely concerning, especially for those of us with senior dogs. The last thing I want is to put my dogs under anesthesia more than once because a procedure wasn't done properly the first time. My experience with the front desk staff was also frustrating. I simply asked what records and requirements they needed from my veterinarian, such as wellness exams, bloodwork, or other testing. Instead of clearly answering my questions, I felt dismissed and spoken to rudely. The conversation quickly turned into being told that if I used another veterinarian, they would need to perform their own exam anyway. It felt more like they were pushing me toward either their $500 package or their $1,700 package with X-rays rather than helping me understand the requirements. I spent a long time saving up to get dental work done for my two senior dogs, and this experience has made the process much more complicated than it needed to be. At this point, I'm considering staying in New York and finding a local veterinarian instead. It's unfortunate to see a business build its reputation on being affordable and accessible, only to move away from the very reasons so many people chose them in the first place. Even more concerning are reports suggesting that some pets may require additional procedures elsewhere, forcing owners to spend more money and put their beloved pets through anesthesia again. He commented on how good she looked for a nine year old and said her heart sounded good. He recommended an allergy shot - cytopoint - to help with her hot spots. We agreed to it so they gave Daisy a shot. She was dead within an hour. They tried CPR and oxygen but no luck. I think Dr. Miller is a nice guy who probably does a really good job. But my dog died minutes after getting a shot and no one will talk to me. I have called multiple times. I have emailed multiple times. Nothing. As I told Crossroads, Zoetis (shot manufacturer) and the state; I have no interest in suing anyone on this. I just want to make sure no other family has to deal with the guilt and pain we have. My doctor told me I have PTSD. On top of this we got a bill for $1000 from Crossroads.

Unfortunately, my recent experience changed my confidence in the practice. My cat is FIV-positive and has recurrent upper respiratory infections. After completing the prescribed treatment without improvement, I called because he was still congested. I was told he needed another appointment, which I scheduled. On the morning of that appointment, I was notified it was canceled because the veterinarian became ill. I completely understand that illnesses happen. What disappointed me was what happened afterward. I asked whether another veterinarian could see him that day or review his recent exam and treatment history since he had just been seen and had not improved. I was repeatedly told my options were an appointment the following week or an emergency hospital, despite explaining that an emergency visit was not financially feasible. I left feeling that there was no continuity of care for an established patient with a chronic condition. This wasn't a canceled "well visit" it was a sick visit that the clinic canceled without any resolution - such as have another Vet see my cat or at least review his chart and possibly speak with me. I transferred my cat's care to another Veterinary practice, where the veterinarian took the time to evaluate him, perform diagnostics, explain her reasoning, and develop a treatment plan. In the past week, the new Vet's office has seen him twice, has called me twice with updates on his labwork, and is checking in with me tomorrow - before the weekend. Before posting this review, I emailed the owner directly. She responded promptly, apologized, and told me she would investigate because my experience sounded unusual. I appreciated that response. However, despite waiting ONE week, I never received the follow-up I was told to expect. I hope this feedback encourages the practice to improve communication and continuity of care for long-term clients whose pets have chronic or recurring medical conditions. **Original review 2021: The staff and doctors are very friendly and caring. They have not done extra tests to increase the bill, like we experienced in NoVA. They have been compassionate and caring. They are knowledgeable on our dog's liver disease.
