Selection: The selection is okay with a larger variety of styles than others in the area. Service: the service was obnoxious. Right when you walk in, there is a gaggle of sales people at the door. Ours wouldn't let us out of their site. We were not given an opportunity to look around. It felt so pushy that I was sure they were hiding something. My thoughts are the furniture are very cheap and they don't want us finding out ourselves. Either way, we won't be back. As a neurodivergent person, I found the whole experience overwhelming. We have been shopping for various furniture for our new home for some time. We have been to various stores throughout the Grand Rapid and surrounding area. Ashley was one of those stops. We visited the store several times within the past 6 months. I am going to attempt to not bash the store but give our experience without any unjustified malice. The store has a nice selection of various furniture items. The staff was a hit or miss during our numerous visits, which was around 4-5 times. It is hard to explain but when you go in, you feel instantly judged by the people hovering around the front door. They clearly see you come in and either move to greet you or disregard your entry and continue on with their internal banter between themselves. Having said that, it was about 50/50 of us having a nice reception or the cold shoulder. The good engagements included a newer young man trying to learn his way under the guidance of a more senior salesperson. It was nice to see the development of a good employee. The young man appeared to be genuine when it came to helping us. We ended up buying a bedroom set from that young man. The other positive experience was with a young lady that was candid and enthusiastically helpful. She offered up tips and guidance without giving any impression of judgement or being dismissive. We ended up buying a couch and loveseat from her. We did go in twice to complete that purchase and each time she was very friendly and helpful. The other times we went into the store were not as pleasant and involved the feeling of judgement and some form of implicit bias. That is my opinion and could be completely wrong, but that was how we felt. The final comment about the store is when we had the couch and loveseat delivered or I should say the attempt. This review has taken me some time to write as I wanted to let time pass to avoid anger directing my review. The delivery guys were late to start and didn't arrive at our house until after the designated time (after 5:00 PM). We were most likely their last stop of the day, which was clearly evident in their demeanor and patience. The wife greeted the two men when they arrived and one of the men responded and the other just walked right past her without any acknowledgement. When they were moving the furniture into the home they were clearly unhappy with the situation, which reflected in their vulgar word choices and roughness with the furniture. Once it was clear the furniture would not fit the opening, I offered up a suggestion. This incited one of the workers to move in a manner that I can only describe as a 5 year old throwing a temper tantrum. He grabbed the couch and quickly moved into the suggested position and said "see it won't fit!" I advised his experience with moving furniture was clearly more than mine but that his emotional reaction was inappropriate and should not be taken out on me. He then went into saying it's frustrating when customers tell them what to do when they do this all the time. After they backed the couch back out, the other guy requested to see the alternative route into the basement. He apologized for his colleagues demeanor, which I appreciated tremendously. It was then determined the loveseat would fit but the couch was not 100%. Removal of handrails were discussed and the fact they do not remove hardware as part of the delivery (which was completely understandable) nor did they have the time was stated. Ultimately the couch and loveseat was loaded back onto the truck. The abrasive guy was advised to not return to the home, if any additional furniture was to be delivered. His response was "whatever dude." Based on the experience with the delivery service, we opted to cancel our bedroom, couch and loveseat order. The salesperson whom we spoke to the very same day as our delivery issue apologized for the experience. The owner had to refund our orders the next day and did so without issue. We ended up ordering the same bedroom set online for $1000 less. We wanted to support local businesses and Ashley's support of our military was noted and appreciated, which was another reason we chose to initially buy there. It's unfortunate but a fact that customer service will make or break you in this competitive economy. As always, this is our experience and could be completely different for each person. Somehow she even managed to coral our little monster of a toddler and give us a moments break from chasing him throughout the store. We bought 2 couches and 2 swivel chairs within a month from 28th street store. Initially, gave them 5 stars because they earned it to the point of delivery. One couch made a distinct creak noise when you sit on it. Makes it feel like old creaky furniture. They sent a tech out and he attempted to repair with a screw in the wood frame. No help same noise. Called Customer Service and spoke with Sabrina. She said per Tech, couch not covered under warranty. Cause was wood pushing on wood and that wasn't covered. Other couch - perfect, no noise. Obviously, the standard for a new product would be squeek free. Quality control at the factory didn't catch it . I foolishly thought that our locally owned Ashley Store would want a happy customer and replace it. Sabrina was adamant that it wasn't going to happen. What a simple fix to make a long term Customer! Ashley makes its own furniture and sells it. It's not like they have to argue with another company to get another one. I hope the local Owners read these reviews. Do they know what is going on day by day. You don't want a one time unhappy customer, who leaves bad reviews. You want a long time repeat customer praising your business. I just bought my couch last year, my cat peed on my couch In December 2022 (pet stains are covered by the plan) and the insurance claim was denied for bizarre reasons. Seriously, please don't go here. First, I went in and bought a mattress. Fine. Was told 2-4 weeks because of Covid. Again, fine. 10 weeks later my mattress comes. I tried 12-15 times to call them in that 10 weeks, not once was the phone answered. Please don't say Covid because when I was in there, it had ample employees. Communication, people. It's a skill and one you obviously don't have. Then, they finally set up delivery, only to be told sorry, you get no choice in time, we'll just tell you the day before when we're coming. Thank goodness I work from home, eh? Then, they come and inform me, sorry, we don't take old bedding away. Uh, excuse me? I paid $49 for delivery and you won't take my old box spring??? After the salesman told me they would, we had quite the conversation about it? How is that acceptable? That was my first and very last experience with Ashley furniture. To start, the salesman told me expected time of delivery would be 6-8 weeks which I didn't mind but I actually didn't receive my furniture after 10+ weeks and that wasn't even the issue because I understand there are supply chain issues. My problem with this company was that I had to reach out to them to get any sort of updates on where my furniture was and expected delivery etc. Not once did they reach out to me to provide any updates. On my last reach out I was informed my furniture was in the warehouse and ready to be scheduled to be delivered so we put it on the schedule for the following weekend. I ordered a bedroom set so I was getting a bed frame, two dressers, and two nightstands. The day of delivery my fiancé and I moved out all the current bedroom furniture to prep for delivery just for an Ashley rep to call me TWO HOURS BEFORE the delivery was supposed to arrive to inform me that the delivery had to be rescheduled. So now our bedroom furniture is all taken apart and we have to wait another 4 days before the delivery guys are back in our area plus I'm 6.5 months pregnant at this point and having to make different sleeping arrangements was not ideal and they couldn't seem to give one care about the inconvenience when speaking to the rep. Lastly, they don't allow returns once the furniture is in the home which is strange to me when there is nothing wrong with the furniture and was in my home for less than 24 hours. Considering the supply chain issues and the demand in furniture you would think this wouldn't be an issue especially since the demand for furniture is so high right now. When all the furniture was finally delivered we realized one of the nightstands didn't fit and they would not allow me to return it. Overall I liked the furniture I bought but will not ever purchase from Ashley again because of their poor communication and customer service. My salesman was okay but when my husband went to pick up our table they gave him the wrong legs. Then we waited for almost five months to get the chairs delivered. And they brought my loveseat but not the sofa. They blame it on COVID. Five months after paying for it all, the salesman told me I was "in luck" because it was on the truck. That was a month ago and I still have no sofa. If I had known it would take this long, I would have kept the old one longer. And I would have shopped somewhere else. I had COVID while waiting for this, but I only missed 8 days of work. I ordered on 8/27/2018 bedroom (bed, 2 night stands, 1 Drawer with mirror and wall art), living room ( Sectional Sofa, Coffee table and 2 side tables and TV stand ) and dining room ( table and 4 chairs), They promised to deliver it on time on 9/16/2018. I had no furniture in my new apartment and the moving date was on 9/15/2018 and I told them that. 2 weeks after the order no calls from them, then I called them to ask about the status and they told me the delivery will be on 9/6/2018 and as I mentioned before I had nothing to set down or sleep on I went to the store I talked with multiple people nobody was helpful then I talked with the boss, He promised to deliver the living room (without the TV stand) and the dining table (used table as temporary) 1 night stand and the drawer , they did deliver them on 8/18/2018. The rest of the stuff supposed to be delivered on 9/6/2018, And again on that date I had the same issue I went to the store talked with the store manager and he said that will deliver all the stuff on 9/11/2018, and he gave me 250$ back because of the delay, on 9/11/2018 the deliver everything except the wall art and I checked my credit card for the 250$ it was there, after 2 days they took them back, and they said it was a mistake, Until now my credit card account is like mess it says negative 1850$ and I don't understand what that means. Now I am waiting for the wall art to be delivered and they promised it will be for free. I have some issues with the coffee table and 1 of the side tables, the delivery guy took pictures of the issues, Told me they will contact you, no body contacted me until now. I tried to do ZERO stars and it was not an option. Worst experience ever. We purchase couches in January 2021 that we didn't get until June of 2021 after multiple issues with delivery. Then 6 months later the material has broken down. My couches look awful. I called customer service that informed us that they don't cover "normal" wear and tear. 6 months later and my couches look as if we have had them for 10 years. The supervisor then informs me that every material wears down differently. They will not be fixing our couches. DO NOT spend your money here. You will regret it. Trying to make payments on my furniture online and no one wants to give me info on how to do it, called and emailed repeatedly, no calls back when the manager told me someone would call back. Turns out my salesperson is no longer working there so no one took over her clients or her emails once she left. I'm tired of them. Everyone will fluff you and make up dates to pacify you until that date comes, and then everyone acts ignorant as to what was discussed. I have ordered furniture from multiple places and have had waaaaaay better service with their competitors who where all facing the same pandemic issues that they blame their poor service on. Yes, I have received credit for their constant mess ups, but I prefer transparency and honesty...AND MY ITEMS! My order was improperly put in so along with the "pandemic" that caused everything to be delayed, now my sons bed is jacked up on temporary rails, there where deliver issues, furniture was placed in the wrong rooms, furniture got damaged before it reached my door. This company alone has really putting a damper on our first new home, Pete ignores my calls and uses this condescending tone as if h's really working hard in your behalf (with no results ever) everyone at the service desk gives me different answers. I ordered a loveseat and recliner. Upon delivery I noticed that the recliners box was all smashed up. I asked the delivery driver to stay cuz I was refusing delivery if it was broken. They also tore my love seat bringing it in. I contact Ashley immediately. I did what I was supposed to do. Three weeks letter someone finally comes out to take pictures and check it. This was in mid September. Then they call me and tell me the recliner won't be in until January. I threw a fit and they agreed to let me pick something else out at the store. Well low and behold the chair we wanted was in Flint. Ok. Cool cool. I get a call for delivery two weeks ago. Delivery is Friday the 28th and now I get a call saying they DON'T have the item they said they had and scheduled a delivery for. Now they have to order it which is what they were going to do in September. So now I have to wait and the girl could even give me an approximate. Probably be February now. This is unacceptable and I will NEVER go through Ashley again. EVER. the best part was the kind salesman. I feel bad for him. Working for a place with such bad business practices. read more

My own experience involved being followed around the store by our assigned salesman who didn't listen when we said we just wanted to look around at our own pace and find him if we needed him. The third time he came up to us I told him that, while the furniture was beautiful, it was out of our price range. He continued to push with more and more detailed questions about what we were looking for. My husband finally interjected to say we really couldn't afford their prices. The last thing that turned us away was the wait time... Our salesman said our furniture wouldn't arrive for over a month if we ordered that day and said any other store nearby would be the same way. We ended up going elsewhere and had our furniture delivered (without issue) 3 days later. My coworker's experience was 100x worse. She had a great time looking around the store and found exactly what she wanted with the help of a nice salesman. That's where the good aspects end. She needed her furniture by mid June (a very important deadline) and she placed her order at the end of April with her salesman's promise that the furniture would arrive before her deadline. A week away from the deadline she hadn't heard anything about her order so she called her salesman and he assured her they would get it to her in time. A few days away, still no call, so my coworker called the store again and the woman who answered the phone said the order hadn't even left Wisconsin yet. It is now a few weeks past the deadline and the furniture was finally delivered today. HOWEVER, the store gave the delivery guys the wrong address, the rails they had specially ordered did not fit into the head/footboards (the salesman assured her they would work), one of the delivery people severely damaged one of the drawer units, AND my coworker's newly painted walls are now sporting several dents and scratches from the delivery crew. In the end... This store has good quality furniture at a relatively decent price. But the lack of communication, terrible service, undue stress, and lack of respect for personal property is not worth it. read more

Ashley Furniture Store is not a place I will shop again. I have been waiting for a bed that was to be delivered on the 24th of July. Well we are in Aug. Was then sent a message to be delivered the 9th. On the 9th got a message to be delivered on the 19th of Aug. I called Delivery and wanted to canceil, tood to contact the store. I called to speak to Sonny our salesperson/manager. He said he would look into it and took my number to call me back. When he didnt call back, I called him again. Then he asked for the cell phone for the order. Should have requested that number on the first call. Said he would call me back and he did said good news they are delivering on the 13th. I said it all better be there or I want my money back. Well 13th comes and it is the 2 box springs and mattress. No head board, footboard, no bed frame. So now I'm calling Sonny back, said he would check into it. Never heard so I call back again asked to speak to Sonny, the man said this Dustin, I'm handling your problem now. Well he proceeds to tell me the rest of the order won't come in until mid September. I said send a truck to come and pick up their merchandise because I was done. Said he couldn't do it. I asked to speak to his boss he tells me i have to call customer service. I call there and no supervisor, was told he should never have sent me there. She wrote up a ticket to call Distribution. So I was so angry, I found this website called Ashley Furniture Complaints/Issues Advocacy and Resource group on Facebook. I listed a complaint there and within minutes I had a person helping and telling me what to do. I followed the steps, got an email from a higher up in corporate and received an phone call this morning wanting to resolve the issue. I was so happy I found this group. We purchased a complete house full of furniture a year ago from Ashley and we also bought an extended warranty/ coverage plan on all the furniture. One piece was a swivel rocker recliner that the seams are all unraveling on after less than a year. We went back to the store 4 months ago and filed a report that was supposed to have been sent to their warranty dept but 3 months later no response. We went back again and spoke with the store director and he took all of our info and promised to take care of it. A month later no response. So we went back a third time and again they took our info and said it would be given to the lady that runs their warranty claims division and she would contact us. A week later and nothing so I called. And she said she had no record of anything being sent to her from the store so she took all my info and wanted pictures of the damaged chair which I sent to her. We called again 3 days later and we were told that the claim as denied as seams fraying and coming apart aren't covered under the protection plan that we bought!!! We went to Ashley because of their supposed support for the military as my wife is a vet and all they did was lie to us and take our money for inferior crap furniture. If this is how they support our veterans how do they treat the general public? I have been in sales myself for over 30 yrs and I have told at least 100 people about our past supposedly great experience which it turns out was anything but. Now I'm going to tell everyone that I meet to stay away from these shysters. I will light up social media and let the world know to stay away from these crooks.
