I have been to another Ashley's BBQ location, when it was in Walkers Point, but this was my first time at their main location. I've tried before, but there were always too busy, I couldn't find parking, and/or couldn't place a phone order. Now I get it. The food is excellent! I picked up two dinners to share with a friend yesterday, a Beef (Brisket) Dinner and a King's Combo, which includes 2 sticks of pork ribs (I believe these are spare ribs with the tips attached), rib tips, and pork shoulder. The dinners come with 2 sides and 2 slices of white sandwich bread. I asked for sauce on the side because I believe they normally serve their meat sauced, especially the rib tips. I believe putting sauce on smoked BBQ is an insult to the chef that spent so much time coming up with the right combination of spices for the rub and perfected the time and temperature for the smoking process to get the right flavor, only to have all that skill and effort negated by covering it all up in sauce. I dipped a rib tip in the sauce it would normally be covered in, and it was great, but I ate the rest without any sauce. The brisket was sliced thin and was incredibly tender and juicy. I ate a slice before I drove home so it would be fresh, but it also survived the drive home, although I have a food delivery bag I use for carry-out. Normally smoked pork shoulder is pulled, but here it is sliced. It was just as tender and some slices were as juicy as the brisket! All of the meat had a sprinkle of their rub on it, and every bite was delicious! The sides of baked beans and slaw were good, but not amazing, but they didn't have to be. I was there for the meats! They are carry-out only. Their website doesn't have current prices, but are within a couple of bucks. They only take cash, but have an ATM on site. Customers seemed to come in waves. I arrived 5 minutes before they opened, and there were 6 people in line already. I have to get back soon to try their turkey tips, beef ribs, and wings. They also recently added a 2nd location, which is a full restaurant with dining room on King Drive, called The Q. Easily in the discussion for top 2 or 3 BBQ spots in town, but has been in business the longest and still going strong! read more

So this is how I explained it to my friends: Ok, you walk in, there's no seating, low ceiling and the interior is dark. There's a hot food warming trey behind a glass door with a sign above that said Buffet $$...moving on... What you want to do is proceed to the bullet-proof window and order from the child family member. Ignore the menu that says wings for $6.99, they don't have it anymore. Pay (cash only) by sliding your money through the stainless steel slot, and pick up your change from that same slot. Find a chair, chat with a local, and when they call your number pick up your food from the turn-style (probably also) bullet-proof window. The food itself was not exactly my definition of good BBQ. The meat was dry and salty, the sauce had a mysterious tint of pink and the flavor of the sauce tasted as if it had been artificially sweetened. read more

I had heard that Ashley's ribs were better than Speed Queen's, but I never bothered going there being of its sketchy location. I mentioned the name to a coworker one afternoon and he enlightened me to the fact that they delivery anywhere in Milwaukee county. Since then, I've been ordering it at least once a week. I'm hooked on their greens and mac & cheese just as much as I am their ribs. I will definitely never go back to Speed Queen after discovering Ashley's. Prior to going here in the evening, I read a lot of the reviews that seemed to unanimously say go here during daylight hours and I would have to agree with that. During the night, it seems rather sketchy. THE GOOD - The barbeque sauce they use is quite possibly the best barbeque sauce I've ever had. It's just tangy enough and salty enough to give it a lot of flavor. The flavor isn't one of those things that just hits you on the first bite, but it keeps at you every bite. It's so delicious! 4.5 stars! - The baked beans are good. Nothing spectacular and I think some of the flavor dies after eating the ribs first, but they are definitely worth getting. 4 stars! - The cole slaw is fresh and clean tasting. I generally don't like cole slaw but we ordered this by mistake. It was definitely worth getting! I ate it really quick because I liked how fresh it tasted. 4 stars! - The price was fantastic for a dinner, running about $9.95 for a dinner meal that included 6-7 ribs, bread, a small container of baked beans, and a small container of cole slaw. Quite the value! 4 stars! THE BAD - While the sauce itself tastes fantastic, the ribs need a lot of work. They are overcooked and dry and hard to eat off the bone. I've been to many BBQ places across the country where the meat just falls off the bone and is easy to eat. The ribs here are difficult to eat and at times, a bit exasperating since it chews more like jerky rather than tender rib meat. The meat also contains a good chunk of fat in there (which I understand often comes with the cut of rib), but there was a noticeable amount of fat on the rib that I don't care much for. 1.5 stars :( - It seemed a little bit scary to wait there for the food since a lot of people seem to loiter there. Also, it just smells like people smoked a lot in the place. They do have bullet proof glass to protect the vendor on the inside, but not much protection outside of that. 2 stars :( THE SUMMARY - I would come here again and give the ribs another try to see if I got them at the wrong time and the ribs could be more tender. I love bbq that's why I chose Ashley's bbq. I love the bbq tips. The tips are usually tender and cooked perfect. My go to for great bbq; however, this time the tips have missed the mark. The tips were tough and burnt. There were more big, burnt, bones than meat. I was really disappointed. I live too far from the restaurant; otherwise I would have taken the tips back. For almost 14$ my tips should've been tender and cooked well not burnt. The bread on my corn beef sandwich was soggy and the chicken wasn't good either. We tried Ashley's last night after seeing them on the news. We just moved here from St Louis a coupe years ago and have struggled to find good BBQ. We LOVED Ashley's and we will be back! We got a rib dinner and a shoulder dinner. The ribs were great ... but that shoulder... oh my word was it amazing!! I could eat an entire barrel of that shoulder. And the sauce is exactly what I want in a BBQ sauce. It was vinegary with a great flavor profile and just a tiny bit of heat. Fries were also excellent as were the beans and slaw. This rating is a true representation of what you will get at Ashley's. Went to the restaurant today because of a video on Facebook with huge beef ribs. Well, I ordered those beef ribs and the answer is NO! The ribs I received looked nothing like what is shown in the video. I also order catfish, in which it was not catfish but the copy cat fish Swai. Cheap imitation fish from Vietnam that cheap restaurants like this one, Red Snappers, Sharks, JJs, etc pass off as catfish at higher prices when it's not. I can see why this place didn't last downtown. Low quality for sure. My total was around $50 for 3 dinners of trash! Keep your money people. So my mother wanted some bbq for dinner on Mother's Day, as the good son I am I went to Ashleys I was told that they're known for great food and I was lied too after I waited over 30 min in a cold lobby for some burnt ass ribs and tips, they put more bread on the plate than meat! Where do you think you are going to find good Q Mequon? Yeah right, if you want the good stuff you know you are going to have to go into the center of the city. Driving by Ashley's it fits the description of a good Q joint. An unassuming place with a hand painted sign advertising it's bbq and smoking pouring out of its roof. If you weren't looking for it you could easily drive by Ashley's without ever knowing it was there. Walking in I knew I was in for a treat. No table, just chairs, arcade machines, bulletproof glass partition, and some smooth r&b music playing in the background. They have a very diverse BBQ menu which I'm looking forward to going back and trying, particularly the goat which sounds amazing. I went with the rib tips dinner which came with cole slaw and beans. I also got one of the soul sides of mac and cheese, and when they found out it was our first time they threw in their greens for free. On to the meal. Rib tips were great; tender nicely smoked with a nice accent of their sauce which is a vinegar base. The slaw was good as well cream and vinegar base. The soul sides were real good. The Mac and Cheese was super cheesy. The greens were exceptional, so tender and delich. If you have never had greens before do yourself a favor and get them at Ashley's so good. The price is real affordable right around $10 for their dinners and as said in other review they will deliver to anywhere in Milwaukee. Next time I'm going to have to go on the weekend for their soul food buffet which is 2 meats and 2 sides for 9 bucks. No way you can beat that deal. Although I'm open to giving the other Q joints in Milwaukee a try I think Ashley's is going to be my go to for when I need an infusion of ribs. read more

I had the ribs again for lunch. Dam they have a deep smoke flavor that is king. The owner was out today in the lobby and I told him that he has the best ribs around and that I drove close to forty miles to get them today and he thanked me. The portions are also bigger than any other BBQ place. The full slab dinner with a pound of fries and four slices of white bread for $18.65 out the door. This will take 3 to 4 meals to eat. After five hours and several hand washes the hint of smoke is still on my hands. Ashleys blows all the chains away and is real BBQ. Weekends have soul food in the hot table which looked pretty good but I was there for BBQ. Thank you Ashleys BBQ. This is my fourth visit and people please get past the neighborhood being a little rough looking. The people working and waiting have all been very nice. The ASHLEY'S bbq was immaculate. It was saucy, tender, lightly salty and the catfish was crisp, huge fillets cooked to absolute perfection. Call me naughty but I am going for round two tonite. This place roacks because they will deliver anywhere in the city of Milwaukee and near suburbs for an order of $20. My go to is the outside dinner and an order of Ashley's fries. For those not familiar with pork shoulder, "outside" is the part of the shoulder closest to the flames that gets the nice charred layer. Ashley's is one of the few places I know of that serves this. The Ashley's fries are topped with pulled pork shoulder, bbq sauce, and nacho cheese. None of the above includes a defibrillator. read more
