The ribs were good and had a nice smoky flavor, but personally I think I prefer my ribs grilled over smoked. The baked beans were decent, but lowkey felt like they were missing a little something. The mac & cheese was easily the best part of the meal though: creamy, cheesy, and the side I'd come back for. My wife and I were here for a convention at the Baird center and were left with few savory options in the area. We ordered the Docs club sandwich with fries, the brisket plate with fries and dirty rice. Very expensive for the small portion of brisket and the food overall didn't have that "downtown" quality and taste. The Doc club sourdough bread was not toasted like most places do, there was zero taste! Bland. I think this restaurant is totally against using seasoning. The brisket was more fatty than I asked for. Hm. Very tender and juicy (it's the only reason I gave it two stars) The dirty rice had a great aroma but zero taste and portion was in a sauce tiny cup? The bar manager lady was training a young man on the pick-up delivery section and she opened up our bag which was stapled to look through it all. Service attentive and knowledgeable. Drinks served promptly and up to par (Whiskey Sour for my travel partner and Gin and Tonic for me). Ordered the L.A. Caviar for appetizer (see foto). New dish for me. Was interesting and will attempt to replicate at home. Travel partner has mac and cheese with a grilled cheese and brisket sandwich. Could have been better. Wasn't bad. Will check back after second Whiskey Sour is finished. I ordered lean brisket with sides of dirty rice and the beans. Lean brisket was lean and sliced. Overall tasty and tried the different sauces. Dirty rice was quite tasty and same with the beans. Both had some heat. Overall quality, quantity and value are in line. To you TEXANS giving negative reviews, please go back to Texas!!! I'm not sure if this would be a place I recommend to others yet. One dish I had was amazing (the packers loaded spuds) the other dish was pretty gross (brisket grilled cheese and mac n cheese). The customer service was great, my server was very nice. My food came out in a decent amount of time. The Packers Tots were everything and more! They were cheesy, meaty, with that hint of bbq sweetness. Every layer of food produced a new layer of flavor. The brisket grilled cheese, however, was the exact opposite. I thought it would be hard to mess it up its meat and cheese melted together, but the flavors they used worked against one another. And don't get me started on the very sad Mac n cheese. We were in town for a conference last month and staying at a nearby hotel, so we decided to give this BBQ spot a try. I've been craving good barbecue for a while, and I had high hopes and I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint. For context, I live in California now, where BBQ tends to come in small portions with big price tags. So I was pleasantly surprised not only by the flavor but also by the portion sizes here. I ordered the one-meat platter and almost went for the two-meat but glad I didn't, because the serving was generous enough to have leftovers for the next day. Service was lightning fast and super friendly. Drinks hit the table in about a minute, and food followed just a couple minutes later. The space itself is big, with plenty of seating and a well-stocked bar featuring some top-shelf liquor. One unexpected (but very welcome) surprise? They offer an extensive cannabis beverage menu which we all decided to try out. Definitely a first for me at a BBQ joint! Underwhelming. For the price it's not worth it. BBQ like this usually expensive, but this wasnt worth the price all things considered. My wife and I tried a platter with everything they basically offer and nothing felt "great". It felt like one of those typical new places that haven't found their identity yet. Wasn't bad but it felt like I was invited to my acquaintance's house for the first time as a third grader and their family's food is really not that good at all but you must eat it and try to save it with any sauces or condiments you can find and have access to and being polite about it at the same time. Doc's smokehouse was very good. I had the two meat platter brisket and cheddar sausage with dirty tots and Mac and cheese. The brisket was very moist and flavorful, cheddar sausage was amazing it had a nice crisp crunch with each bite. The dirty tots and sauce were amazing. The Mac and cheese was good not my favorite but overall prices were very reasonable for the amount of food we received. Sophia was our waitress and she was very attentive to our table she did an awesome job serving us. I would highly recommend this restaurant. There was plenty of room and a nice atmosphere. read more

We had an event to attend downtown so we decided to give a new place a try. This brought us to Doc's. We had a very attentive waitress. The ambiance was just so so. Nothing special, your typical feel of a hall. The food was delicious. The ribs were really good. Would definitely order them again. I had the Brussels Sprouts as a side. They were good but comparing them to others I have had they fell short. My husband had the special, a brisket grilled cheese that he said was yummy. We also included drinks... the peach tea. We ordered here later at night so maybe the meat was just older cause it was the end of the night but both the brisket and the pulled pork were just bland and dry, no real flavor not even the Smokey flavor. The only reason I gave it 3 stars not 1 are for the "pig wings" and the BBQ sauce options. The pig wings were great and the rub on them was fabulous. WINGS! Get the wings! Great place for wings and sometimes they're even half off. Have had multiple items here and never really disappoints. If staying at the Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee (or if in the neighborhood) and in search of good barbecue nearby, this is the place. Five different barbecue sauces are available at the table depending on what you like (sweet, Memphis-style, Carolina, Texas heat, or Alabama-style). The smoked turkey had great flavor, but the dirty rice really hit out the park with the seasonings. The mac 'n' cheese was just ok. The servers working were very fast and friendly. The food was good, not great. Service was amazing though. Our party was seated immediately, even though it looked busy. Our orders were taken and food was brought out in a reasonable time and our drinks were always full. My complaint is that the food wasn't really hot. It was definitely cooked, and cooked well, but went cool almost immediately. I am not sure how this is remedied... it was almost as if it was sitting under a warmer before being brought to the table, so it was hot on the exterior but not internally. I know it's nitpicky, but I'm not a fan of lukewarm chicken. There was a nice selection of sides available. I had salad and mac & cheese. It's pretty well set up for groups, with low and hi-top tables. And for all of us olds, the lighting is sufficient for reading menus I can attest that the women's restroom was very clean and well stocked with TP. Found this place on yelp but let's just say, most of the people who are leaving reviews for this place can't possibly know Texas BBQ- this place has a nice environment but the food is lacking- The brisket even though we asked for moist brisket just tastes like more of a cafeteria quality instead of the high quality amazing melt in your mouth brisket that we are used to at home- i admit we are spoiled with our bbq options in texas so this place might be decent for around here for all I know- Anyone coming from a place with excellent bbq seriously needs to lower their expectations for this place but in all honestly, go somewhere that this town is known for like german. The skin on the chicken wasn't crispy- the sausage was overcooked which you can tell because even the skin was wrinkly- the mac n cheese was OK but nothing too special but it probably was one of the better items we ate. The beans were wayyyyy to sweet- wow- i honestly couldn't even eat them. I enjoyed the fried pickles- my husband did not. Not to mention we spent $50 with tip on crappy bbq- just sad- it tasted like bbq that would have been served for free in the cafeteria for our hotel- but that food is free so we give it more grace than this restaurant with this price tag. From ribs, smoked meats including turkey aand Local Usinger sausage. The Usinger sausage is great , not too salty to my liking. Meats are Smokey and tender falling off from the bone. They occasionally ran out of meat towards the end of the day. Once they ran out they don't make it until next day. Service is awesome too. If you're in downtown MKE, a must try. read more

Usually when I see a place attached to a hotel in a busy part of town I get hesitant because I've been burned a few times with places like that but this one was great. Milwaukee has some surprisingly good BBQ, DOC's being amongst the top! The meat was tender and delicious and the staff was friendly. A nice place for groups, as the set up inside is similar to a food hall, but with a warm ambiance. They have tons of different local brews to try, so we grabbed two beer flights. I was staying a the Hyatt Regency in downtown Milwaukee and this place was a couple of block away so I dropped in for lunch. It was an about 1p and the place was pretty empty...but I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a turkey sandwich with a side of the daily special -- which was a Mac salad. The staff was nice and the food came quickly. I must admit I was a bit underwhelmed with the sandwich...is was just a pile of smoked turkey on a bun. Nothing else. There were several pickle on the side which I put on the sandwich...as well as a basket of several sauces including a spicy, sweet and my favorite...Alabama Gold. The sauces helped a lot...and the turkey was good...just thought there could be more in terms of veggies on the sandwich. The Mac salad was ok but not the best I've ever had. I'd give it a 1-2 out of 5. --Potato salad: this was salty & tangy, really good but not the best I've ever had, probably a 3-4. --Coleslaw: this was really tasty, it was properly watery & not too thick, it was tangy & sweet at the same time. Over five years later I'm still a fan! We hit up Doc's this week for dinner, and I had the turkey again. Tasty as always. In the past I haven't been a huge fan of their sides, but I think they've stepped up their game!
