Original and colorful murals fill the walls. Fun kitchen utensils are used as dividers. The booths provide privacy and are good for conversation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server, Maria, was friendly and attentive. She kept our waters filled and checked on us a couple times. Food came out fairly quickly. The menu is a mix of Greek, Italian and American, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. I had a bowl of clam chowder that was absolutely delicious. The Greek salad is very refreshing and tasty as well. My brother had the spinach pie (spanakopita), which he said was flavorful. My husband had the gyro with fries. Their hand cut fries are delicious. He loved his gyro, which was packed with meat. The food is good, portions are generous and prices are reasonable. They do have a bar and cater events. Food was quite good! Diner fare, but a step up for sure. The service, however, was super weird. I walked in to the place mostly empty, and so chose a booth at a window. A couple minutes later a woman tottered out of the kitchen, looked at me, and asked in a smoker's rasp, "uh, can I help you?" "Um... can I eat here?" "Uuuh ok... but next time you need to let someone know you're here! I can't see you." Was I supposed to wander l back into the kitchen and find her? She spent the rest of the meal grumbling and griping as she went about things. An older gentleman came in and sat down near me. She waddled out of the kitchen again, "Sir! Sir! Sir! Sir! You CANT SIT THERE! ITS RESERVED!" He looked as dumbfounded as I had been earlier and fled to safer ground. She seemed to be at war with the kitchen staff as well. We had just been fasting for bloodwork and came in so hungry - husband had the hungry man breakfast, and I had the Classic breakfast with pancakes, grits, and bacon. Everything was great from the piping, hot coffee, fluffy pancakes, perfect, perfectly cooked French toast, home fries, fluffy fresh eggs, great grits, sausage, and bacon. Went back recently to meet family there. I moved away, so I hadn't been there for a while. Parents and I went here for a late breakfast on a Tuesday. They had eaten here before and enjoyed it. The place The fun decor included alternating kitchen utensils like whisks and spatulas in alternating patterns encased in plastic as the booth dividers. The Costco size bottle of Cholula on the table lets you know what direction the menu is heading. Parking as others have noted is a bit tricky at peak hours. The food All three meals pictured below were good. Nothing mind blowing, and that is ok. Not every food experience has to make you want to cry tears of joy. A few things-- We wished the chorizo had more kick and that there was more of it in the tacos and enchiladas. That was the most remarkable part, the lack of heat in the dishes you expected to be spicy. The jalapeños in the tacos were no spicier than bell peppers. The green sauce with the tacos was outstanding and should be in a giant bottle on the table and they should be selling it. We will go again and try other things. Very solid, good quality meals. For many years, Ashton Family Restaurant has been a Manassas, VA community staple. I have heard the Ashton family founded it in the early 1990s and has been serving delicious breakfast food ever since. The restaurant has a friendly and accommodating staff and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It has become a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, who come for the great food, friendly service, and relaxed and cozy atmosphere. As a Manassas, VA resident, I had heard about Ashton Family Restaurant and its reputation for serving delicious breakfast. So I decided to give it a shot one summer morning. I was not let down; the breakfast food was delicious and tasted exactly as I had hoped. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the bacon crisp, and the toast warm and fresh. This is a good, old-fashion diner with good food and friendly service. It's a little 'off the beaten path', but worth the detour. Good things: Ashton has an extensive menu. Greek, Italian, Mexican, American diner classics, etc. We were there for dinner, so I didn't notice if they serve breakfast all day; but I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Ashton also has a lot of seating, so I can't imagine that there would be long wait times. There certainly was no wait the night before the Fourth of July. We were there early-ish, and they were 25% full. Why not five stars? The food tastes good, but is a little non-traditional. My partner's Italian entree was served with what he described as 'spaghetti Alfredo' made with 'queso fresco'. I tasted it, and the flavor was fine--just not like fettuccine Alfredo made with fettuccine and Parmesan cheese (of course). I had the gyro salad, and it was fine--traditional tzatziki sauce, generous portion of meat and fresh vegetables. The bar is also limited. They can make all the drinks on the menu, but you'll need to go up to the bar yourself to see if they have the ingredients for your favorite cocktail. For example, a gin martini wasn't on the menu, and our young waiter had no idea what I was talking about. A quick trip to the bar sorted it out--no dry vermouth, so Tanqueray & Tonic was my order. Lastly, the parking lot probably could not handle all of the guests if the restaurant was busy. I'm sure you could find something within walking distance if they were full. Just don't expect the miles of asphalt you get at the big chain restaurants. We will definitely be back the next time we are In Manassas! read more

I drive by Ashton Avenue Family Restaurant regularly, but have never stopped in, until today. I ordered an all meat carne asada burrito (no rice or beans) and a side of onion rings, to go. The order taker, who was so very nice, also said that comes with complimentary tortilla chips and salsa :) About 10min later, there was another very nice person who came and gave me my bag. And off I went. When I got home, and took out the food, I noticed the tortilla chips and salsa were not there. Hmmm, well maybe they forgot. No worries. I open the container with the onion rings, and took a bite...awesome! Some wickedly nice onion rings. Off to the corner, inside the bag, there was a very small wrap. I thought, that can't be my burrito, can it? I opened it up, and sure enough, it was a tortilla wrapped around almost nothing. The burrito had no weight to it, what so ever. I took a bite, and could not believe that this $18 burrito literally was empty, except for 3 small pieces of steak strips. No onions, or cilantro, even though I specifically asked for lots of onions and cilantro. Not that it was enough that the burrito was small and empty, but it was dry, absolutely no sauces of any kind, just the 3 steak strips wrapped in a tortilla...THAT's It! It was the worst....I mean worst excuse for a burrito that I've ever had in my life! And it wasn't cheap either. The burrito and onions rings costed $30! $18 burrito and $12 onion rings. But the onion rings were good! But what they called a carne asada burrito (Texas burrito no rice or beans) was God Awful and shameful. Absolutely shameful. Like someone really and honestly didn't give a rats' behind on what they were sticking in the take away bag. I don't write bad reviews. If the food is a bit off somewhere, I chalk it up to "I won't go there again." But this was so flagrantly inexcusable and an obvious disregard for even trying to make something halfway descent. Someone back there did ....hmm I'll put 3 small steak strips inside this big tortilla and send this partner on his way. BTW - I had been in Los Angeles last week, enjoying authentic and truly great carne asada burritos, that were big, fat and tasted heavenly, at around $12 for an all meat carne asada burrito. But it's not the price that's got me writing this review, it's the negligence that went into making this pathetic excuse for a burrito! I sincerely hope this does not happen to you. One year later and still fantastic! This time I visited for lunch but... I still got breakfast! Apparently they serve breakfast all day; you just have to ask for the menu. My choice that day was inspired by a fellow Yelper, so I ended up with the Costa Rican breakfast: egg omelette, rice and beans, fried plantain, and flour tortillas. Definitely way too much for lunch but I left quite happy. And needed a nap afterwards. :) The staff was great and someone always checked up on us even if they weren't waiting our table. Sausage Gravy Biscuit, home fries, and 2 scrambled eggs w/ a side of bacon. A bit expensive! $4.25 for 3 strips of bacon. $22.50 + tax + a $5.00 tip. The atmosphere is a bit dated.
